Rate this book
Do not go gentle into that good night, wrote Dylan Thomas, and Canadas notorious Ladies Killing Circle has taken his advice to heart. In Going Out With a Bang, the dangerous dames have brought together an explosive mix of authors from across the country. Whether its the boom of drums, the cacophony of a train wreck, or the thud of a body crashing down the stairs, no one goes out without a fight. Twenty authors, along with poet Joy Hewitt Mann, will chill you, entertain you or plain blow you away in this eclectic fictional brew.

I enjoyed this collection. It is rare that I appreciate all of the stories in this type of book, especially when there are a variety of authors and styles. But, in this case, there were none that I disliked and many that I really enjoyed reading. The authors crafted clever stories, with interesting characters and twists.

I will look up other LKC collections, and will be looking up other works by the writers in this book.

It was my favourite book published in 2008 ... why you ask? Because my short story "Cobwebs" was published in it. Humble pie :) Seriously, though, it's a great collection of crime & mystery tales by the notorious Ladies' Killing Circle. Great Canadian prose to die for.

4. Why did I not realise that this was going to be very depressing. Apologies to any of the authors but none of the stories were engaging or surprising. From a website “Book Series in order” told me this “The Ladies’ Killing Circle
The Ladies’ Killing Circle is made up of authors Mary Jane Maffini, Sue Pike, Linda Wiken, Vicki Cameron, Audrey Jessup, and Joan Boswell.

The Ladies’ Killing Circle is an Ottawa phenomenon, since that is where most of the writers are based. During the 1990s, this six-member critiquing group knew that their mystery short stories were all good and should be released for the people to read.

Vicki Cameron, whose non-fiction work was published by General Store proposed these women, who became the Ladies’ Killing Circle. Sadly, Audrey Jessup (one of the founding Ladies) died in 2003.
