We’ve escaped Salem, leaving behind thousands of people to an uncertain fate. The bunker is a short-term haven, providing more than we ever imagined — proving once again that Azzie and Mouse weren’t the compliant little puppets everyone believed them to be. But it’s time to leave now, to go out into the world. A world that isn’t remotely prepared for Azzie. Fear is a powerful weapon to wield, but hope? Hope is the one-eyed man in the land of the blind. Hope is the gun at the knife fight. No, they have no idea what’s coming.
*** “Book of the Lost: AAV-07d25-11” is the third book in the JAK2 Cycle series, and you will need to read the first two books to understand the ongoing story. This is a reverse harem (#whychoose?) romance taking place years after a pandemic. Although previous books were slow-burn, this book is not. You’ve been warned!
Not appropriate for anyone under 18. May not be appropriate for those above 18 either, but that’s your call. If the idea of one snarky, angry, damaged teenage girl involved with multiple 20-something men offends you, this is not the book for you.
Maybe my expectations going into this one were too high. I was super impressed in the preceding two books by Azzie's unique and hilarious personality, the fascinatingly well-researched premise, and the intriguing plot. While these things were sort of present in this book too, it felt very watered down and I was a bit disappointed.
We pick up right back where we left off, with Azzie leading her men, her foster family, the Callis twins, and the 'Viper twins' into the underground bunker. She's discovered that the government isn't distributing the JANUS vaccine made from her blood the way it should be and so she's decided to strike out on her own. Her foster family will be left in the bunker; meanwhile, she'll leave with everyone else.
Major Problem #1: We have to wait until 20% in just to get Azzie's POV. Before that, we rotate through the heads of her five harem members, triplets Luka, Sasha, and Sev, and twins Spider and Tai. I wasn't thrilled with this because, as I've always maintained, Azzie has always been the star of the show for me. Her abrasive humour and cynicism absolutely won me over in book one, and she is literally 60% of why I even keep reading. The premise is cool, sure, but in the hands of a different heroine - someone dumber, whinier, less sarcastic - I might have jumped ship. It's Azzie that keeps me coming back.
So you can imagine how impatient I was to get to her POV, and my surprise that we first re-enter her perspective a whole 20% into a 110k word book. This problem also sheds light on another issue for me, namely: the guys' inner personalities are not actually very well distinguished from each other. We know the superficial differences, like that Sev is the D&D nerd, or Tai is the medically trained one. But when I'm actually reading their POVs, the voices all sound identical. I had to flip back to the start of a chapter sometimes to check whose head I was actually in. It is understandable: the author is only one person, and trying to produce five (or six, if you count Azzie) distinct voices is obviously hard. In all my many, many RH books, I've never seen it attempted well beyond about three heroes. But that's why it shouldn't have been done in the first place, because it was deeply unpleasant for me as a reader to withstand 20% of hopping between heroes' heads who literally all sounded the same.
Major Problem #2: Nothing happens for half the book. As I said, it's 110k words. Literally half of that has NOTHING happen except Azzie and her men gathering supplies in the bunker and preparing to leave. In some ways, I'm in disbelief that so many words could be lavished on so little action, while the entire plot which the book is resting on is compressed into the second half. This sets up a weird whiplash structure, where I almost began skim-reading in the first half to get to the action quicker, and then when I finally got to the action (not that there was much) it all happened in the space of a few pages and I could barely keep up. Serious editing was needed to cut down on the irrelevant stuff.
I've read a LOT of self-published books, since RH is pretty much all self-published, and I usually DNF because of crap technical writing. This book has superb technical writing (minus a few persistent tense errors) but that's not to say it doesn't suffer from other quintessentially 'self-published book' problems, like tons of unnecessary (if well-written) pages and an uneven plot distribution between the two halves of the book.
There was also noticeably less humour; Azzie spends most of the book exhausted, which naturally of course impacts her personality to a degree, but she also developed an infuriating habit of 'speaking her thoughts'. Basically, thinking things, and accidentally saying them out loud without realising. THIS IS ONE OF MY TOP PET PEEVES. I have NEVER seen it happen in real life, not even when I go down in Ramadan to eat at 4 am and my parents have been up all night praying so they're tired to the bone. Certainly I've been so tired that I'm sure I was incoherent, but Azzie's sentences aren't incoherent; they're full grammatical sentences, just things she thought inside her head which somehow made their way outside. How does this even happen? It just got on my nerves every time it happened, and I ended the book a lot less in love with her than when I started it.
Overall
There are good things of course, like the writing, and I plan to continue. It just hasn't continued the upward trajectory the last two books were on. This is the definition of a series' 'filler book' in many ways.
As some of the other, more trusted, reviews stated this felt like a filler book - and in a lot of ways it was. It was basically just them getting out of Salem and meeting with the triplets motorcycle gang.
If it were just that I could have probably gave it three stars because I still enjoyed the characters. My problem lies in 99% of Azzies thoughts circled around sex. The guys hands, the guys arms, the guys smiles, the guys etc etc ect...IT ALL TURNED HER ON! Then to make it even worse we had to hear about how experienced the guys were. Yes, I'm aware it was before her and they live in a post apoplectic world yada yada yada BUT did I really need to know that on of the brother "pounded into a girl for a solid 20 minutes..."? Absolutely NOT! I didn't need to hear about any of their time pre Azzie.
For me it ruined the story. I even skipped the sex scene! It also doesn't make me look forward to when they all arrive at the club house. ALL those girls will be there and they aren't aware - at this point - that the guys are bringing Azzie back so yeah....can anyone else see where this is going?
I personally feel that this all needs to be addressed by the guys. They need to sit down and have more than just a bonding talk. They need to be frank AND Azzie needs to respond appropriately when she's confronted with the OW. How is she really suppose to feel special when they guys have done EVERYTHING with multiple OW that she will be facing daily?
Ultimately I'll read the next one because as I said before, I enjoy the characters and its a very interesting storyline. I just want to move on from Azzie being turned on about everything and get back to the girl we knew in book 1and 2.
I'm kind of confused about this book. Azzie feels like a completely different character compared to book 1. She was really strong, clever, and mature (for her age) because she had to be due to the life she's lead post-pandemic. In Book of the Lost, she's laughing for extended periods of time because someone said "going down" and "penis." There were quite a few moments of really immature, low-brow humor that was just the funniest thing in the world to Azzie. There was also the fact that Azzie kept threatening to kill people. Maybe she can. It didn't feel very intimidating coming from her, though.
Beyond being completely baffled by whoever tf Azzie is now, I found my eyes glazing over while reading. A lot. It felt like I was reading about the bunker for far too long and I got bored. It felt like the D&D talk would often go too in-depth and last for too long. There was a lot of medical information thrown in -- not sure if it's relevant later on down the line but, in the moment, it was hard to care. I also kind of zoned out when they talked about the mechanics of the MC, which does feel slightly more relevant, but it happened so late in the book that I just couldn't focus.
Finally, I'm having a hard time with 5 people recognizing over the span of a couple of weeks (one of which she was incoherent) that Azzie is someone they want to spend the rest of their lives with for several reasons: 1) Sure, some people fall in love quickly, so I could maybe believe one of them going all in immediately. But all five? Highly unlikely. I would have felt more comfortable if the author told us they'd known each other longer...I don't need to read about all of it, just imply they got to know each other over the course of 1+ months. I say this because... 2) Yes, Azzie started off as a strong character in book 1 but she was a raging mess in book 2, so it was hard to see what they loved so much about her personality that made them fall for her so fast. 3) Given that it's heavily implied that the guys are out of her league appearance-wise, she'd need to compensate with a stellar personality. Like I mentioned, she was quick-to-anger for most of book 2 and had a very childish sense of humor in book 3. She's also pretty abrasive, which feels more like a defense mechanism -- push people away before they leave on their own -- but abrasive is abrasive, no matter the reason. I'm not totally getting the appeal. Sure, she's selfless where this cure is concerned but selflessness doesn't feel sufficient to declare undying love. You don't see me pining for Mother Teresa.
I'm kind of bummed that I didn't love this installment because the idea for this series is pretty fantastic.
Pages: 360 My rating: 4 Read other books by this author in the future: yes MC: Azzie (Aesli Azrael Vokaty), Sasha, Sevastian, Luka (Hellspawn Triplets), Tai Chandler, Spider Chandler Jason Callis, Ryan Callis
The timeline of the third book is a bit off. Before they leave the bunker there were only a few hour. But then after leaving the wall behind, they wander for some day until they stumble upon a group of demonstrating people. From there until meeting the Hellspawn MC it’s again hours.
But I loved the story anyway. I love the characters and also the way Azzie is and was betrayed by the greedy people reminds me of the sentence “they do because they can” with no humanity and no compassion for Azzie. I like the guys and it was really a good move of the Callis’s to tell Azzi the truth and leave with the bitch twins. I think we will meet them again.
M did good in Alpha reading the book and I loved that the author explains how she got M to do alpha reading. And that M is mentioned in the acknowledgment.
Honestly, this book deserves more than 3 stars. It was well written and the plot was intriguing, but it just wasn’t for me. I was bored for all 3 books. It took me forever to finish this series, and the series still is on-going but I read what was out now and that’s that. I’m leaving this series in 2020. ✌🏻
I was so excited for this book to come out! I’d check everyday to see if it was available- I was committed ngl. However, this book didn’t hold my attention the same way as the others did. I think it may be because 1) the mixed POVs at the beginning were unnecessary and undistinguished - I’m really struggling to tell the difference between the men, not only in their own thoughts but also in their personalities when Az is describing them. I’m all for a couple other POVs if there’s the drama for it but nothing was really going on at the start. 2) Although Az spent the whole of the book with her boys, it felt like she spent no time at all with them?! I still feel as though Az is as close to them as when they first joined her school. I feel like the only defining features in their relationship are the “Medical one”, “Soldier one”, “Gamer one”, and then the other two. 3) While the science information was cool, especially since I’m studying Chemistry and Biology, my brain decides not to take any of this in and I end up barely skimming the overload of text.
On a more positive note!! I really enjoyed the banter between Az and the guys. The story line is still super original and entertaining (I’m secretly wishing she gets pregnant just for the drama)!
I’ll definitely grab the next book and I look forward to it’s release, I’m already loyal to this author. I’m hoping for more romance and spice in the next book (saving the world is fun but I’m a hoe for a dramatic relationship).
I know I'm in the minority here but this story really fell apart for me in book 3. I was enjoying the series and loved the FMC and her dry wit, but she lost me in this book.
I found myself skimming through a lot of the chapters and eventually decided to give up on the story. Kind of a bummer.
for some reason i was SURE this was a trilogy and now i'm so disappointed at myself i need to wait for god knows how long.
anyway. about the book. nothing really HAPPENS here, oh my. they basically gather way too much baggage for someone who is running away and need to be fast and then just walk from one place to another, mostly all according to the plan. and i kind of hate how many times they talk about the fucking plan and then show it going on because i need to read the same thing twice. and since they LOVE to talk about what happened the week before or whatever, possibly three times.
i don't REALLY like any of the guys and their narrative is waaay too similar. but damn i love Azzie. she is such a great character.
oh, and just a random comment about the conversation the guys have with their mc brothers in the end: you know when you go home with your friend after a party and sit in the kitchen and gossip about what happened there before going to sleep? i felt like that reading the scene. fuck i miss it so much.

So I was so invigorated book 1. This series was everything a nerd could ask for and I was there for it. It's book three now and I still love it buuuuut I'm gonna need a lot less drama next book. It was fine starting out but it's starting to make the books drag. There's not much forward movement for the characters because there's so much angst and drama it's taking up over 50% of the book. So fingers crossed book 4 is plot progression and our now developed characters moving forward and not more emotional angst and emo monologues
Awful, hated it, I don't even know why I finished it. They finally leave. She turns 18. They get shot at by a bunch of mask-wearing hippies? She meets a bunch of bikers. It was boring. The only reason I gave this one 2 stars was the hot MMF scene.

I don't even know what to say to articulate how much I love this series. I've only ever read one book series in this genre that I love more, and I think I've read probably 80% of RH books out there.
This series.. is so wonderful. It's so well-written and so beautiful and so heart-wrenching. It gives me these hits of adrenaline when I'm reading. Not even bc of the action but because of the fucking EMOTION it makes me feel.
It is raw and beautiful and everything I want in a book. I'm baffled at how much research the author must have done to do this book. Either that or she was legit a biology major or a nurse or doctor. Not only that but the tech stuff too. As someone who works in the cell phone industry I can not tell you how refreshing it is to see someone who knows what they're talking about writing about tech-related stuff instead of what most authors do which is just wing it based on whatever limited knowledge they think they have. (Ok maybe not most, but.. it happens and it drives me nuts haha)
The way she relates this back to COVID as a precursor to the virus that caused the deaths of 43% of the world (JANUS-23) is not only uncomfortable in the best way but relates to both sides of the "debate" when it comes to how to handle the virus. It also leans heavily on science which i also appreciate as a reader (and a human being 😂)
Anyways. Aside from the freaking insane world-building and research and nerdy ass shit (hellloooo Game of Thrones references!😍😍) the actual story itself is so freaking amazing.
Azzie and her 5 men (a set of Viking-Esque triplets and Native American twins oh dear gooodddd) are probably the best and most amazing characters I've read in my life (listen I wanna throw out here that I do have a RH book that will always be my fave so it's hard for me compare.. but these guys come sooo close to that group). Azzie is both fragile and brave. Kind and bitchy. Hard with a moral compass you can't argue with. She's perfect, in a word. And VES does such a great job making sure we understand how terrible her life has been without making her sound like she does nothing but whine. Because she doesn't. She just... lifts her chin and selflessly accepts what and who she is but also refuses to let people take advantage of her. She is solid and unwavering and I LOVE HER.
The guys? I would be here for 80 years if I went through how much I love everything about the guys. Spider is my absolute fave tho. And also Sev bc I mean he has a freaking game of thrones tattoo soooo 😘😍just know they are sooo alpha and so hot and so freaking in love with Azzie and everything she deserves.
I'm coming back to add to this.. I just wanted to get my thoughts down but.. yeah. Read this damn series or you'll legit miss out on one of the best books everrrr
The JAK2 Cycle Series is simply fabulous!! The characters introduced throughout book one continue to book 3, like a trilogy. The 4th book follow a secondary character who was very very important to the FMC. It tells HER story. Honestly I wasn’t really interested in the 4th book and rather disappointed with hi how book 3 ended, hence the 4 not 5 stars. I’m aware that the characters from the first 3 books will meet up at some point with Mouse (the FMC in book 4) but that’s not enough for me. I don’t think Azzie’s story was completed enough by the end of book 3 to skip to Mouses story.
**SPOILERS** *triggers
This is a very deep often depressing post pandemic novel about the world as we know longer existing…in its place greed and corruption run dominant, the wealthy and highly political people hold all the power and allow their citizens in their cities to suffer, alone, without government assistance. It’s a hard, and tough life. Most cities are wastelands of what they used to be, and Motorcycle clubs run rampant, where MC’s and gangs try to control and hold into pockets of cities and lands in order to keep they clubs/chapters/families safe.
YEARS AGO a pandemic hit globally! Not that American citizens were let in on this . They were told by the government that it started in Detroit and America was decimated by the pandemic caned JANUS-17. It killed billions. And after years of devastation, and people dying by the thousands each day, men women and children, a miraculous vaccine was discovered and introduced! The CDC tested it, and the CDC along with an unknown government agency and a big Pharma co. began to manufacture and give out the vaccine. But there was a deep dark secret that the government hid from EVERYONE, a secret that nations, counties would go to war for: the vaccine for JANUS-17 could only be made from the completely 100% unique blood of an immune 13 yr old, who had survived the pandemic watching her ENTIRE TOWN DIE, just to be “taken” by officials and told that they’d “care for her,” and agree to her terms…that the vaccine would be distributed evenly and equally to the populace, the children elderly and most in need going first. The government and the pharma co and CDC agreed and they created this “safe haven” (aka prison) for Azzie on an incredibly fortified military base that was structured as much as a small town would be! In order to keep Azzie (she was their most valuable commodity safe, the key to power- though they didn’t tell her that) the government built this utopian like society/town to gaslight Assie into believing she could live fairly well until she died (since yes they said she didn’t have much longer to live as well) in this town, live with foster parents (since her entire real family died in the JANUS outbreak) attend school, all she had to do is follow they instructions in self-care (to keep her blood healthy) and just continue to let them freaking bleed her dry every week
What no one could have anticipated was the sheer determination, willpower, strength, inherent goodness, empathy and love this young girl had within her. When she is in her last year in her pretend high school some really hot new strangers show up, along with a seriously hot professor and an equally beautiful med technician that works with her BFF Mouse in the lab to draw her blood named Tai. She soon learns that the cute guys at school, the teacher. The darn med technician were ALL PLANTED OM THE BASE TO FULFILL A STUDY! The men were promised vaccines for their families if they joined the “study” which only included multiples.
Having been “locked away” ridiculed, mocked, humiliated and hurt by school mates and enduring DAILY and steadily worsening pain makes Azzie realize she doesn’t want to let anyone close. Plus the lead scientist is a psycho and would rather nuke the town, kill everyone, and give Azzie a lobotomy, saying they don’t need anything but her precious blood basically keep her comatose and milk her like a cow for her blood. Mouse and Azzie had been planning for years to escape this prison base, and set everything up - what no one expected was for Azzie to fall madly in love with all totally handsome guys.
The guys entered the study knowing very little, they were willing to do what the members of the company told them to do in order to get the vaccine for their loved ones (that was their promise) of course it all changed when they - Azzie, Mouse, the guys and a few others discovered about Assie’s secrets and pain, how she was basically tortured and in a state of 24/7 pain to supply the base base doctors and the big pharma with enough of her miracle antibodied blood!
One by one they fall for this incredibly brave girl who has seen the worst of humanity and yet remains able to still give everything, even her life over to strangers to save people in the world outside her prison that she doesn’t even know, save the world. But meeting the guys changes Azzie too…suddenly she has something to live for. And although she tries to keep her heart closed (and they betray her trust a few times, making her forgiveness necessary to continue a relationship) she intrinsically on some “base level” knows these guys are HERS. They apologize and grovel, and stand up for her, thus, she forgives them and they become a cohesive unit as they realize that Azzie is not only brilliant but incredibly brave and empathetic.
Azzie pulls the guys into the plan that she and Mouse came up with and have been planning for years. She does so 1. Because she has fallen for them 2. She realizes that everyone on the base has been lying to her, including the government 3. They are going to kill the guys, in fact, kill the ENTIRE town to keep the secret of her blood from the public and anyone else. Azzie, along with her guys, another set of twins (that relationship thread was one of the main reasons I thought there should be another book. Sure one if the twins was an a-hole that didn’t really care for her, but the other genuinely had feelings for her, and the author builds her attractions and his attraction right up to the minute that they separate in the outside when she discovers that a-hole twin has compromised her plan and safety and sold her out). As much as I hated a-hole twin, I wanted to know where her relationship with the twins was going. I mean, was that really it? They separate after all that, go their separate ways and boom, they never see one another again?? If that’s the case, it was built up that way, and definitely led to a somewhat disappointing ending…actually very disappointing ending because there virtually is no ending. Again, the series is wonderful except that Azzie’s story doesn’t really end. She gets on the back of a motorcycle, after agreeing to go back to the big MC’s compound with the Prez and his sons, she smiles…and the book is done. What?!!! That’s so NOT satisfying!! She’s supposed to “change the world” and with the resources she now has, and the man power, and the plan to distribute the vaccine (since she knows now if she takes care of herself, she’s not destined to die young). The author leaves us totally in the dark about what happens to Azzie and her guys. I guess you can kind of assume that she makes it to the compound and starts her plan…but you don’t know for certain.
So yes, I thought the series was fabulous. A truly well written dystopian RH, with a very thoroughly well crafted and executed plot. However, I thought that after 3 books, that we, the readers deserved a much better ending to Azzie’s story. Frankly, I didn’t need Mouses story (as much as I liked her). And would’ve been happy if we learned Mouses fate in oh, say, the 4th book, if it had been written as another Azzie story, and not Mouses standalone book.
Struggling. I DNF this book... yet I really enjoyed the first two books even though I really feel like they could've been cut down a bit and combined. Azzies humor made it enjoyable. My problem now is that in this book.. personalities just seem to do a 180. The viper twins are now pretty cool(like over night) and azzie has gone from a blusher to demanding sexual things. (Also over night) In the POVs I can't tell who is talking, they all read about the same. Nothing is really happening in this book.. I find myself walking away from this story when normally I'll read straight through a book. I probably won't continue, but you should definitely give it a shot. :)
Things are getting tense for our intrepid so-called Angel of Death and i'm loving every minute of it. i loved the way that the postal system was used in this book. i can't wait for the next one, i swore i would read this one slowly and make it last and am currently cursing myself for my lack of willpower because i swallowed it down in less than a day. the plot's great, the characters are wonderful, the interactions are HAWT, i love this story. if the author sees my review i ask her to please, please, please handcuff yourself to your keyboard and give us more adventures.
I'm not sure I've come across another series that felt like it was written specifically for me. This is it. This is my favourite. Can't explain it in words, maybe in shapes? I'm prone to using dance moves when I'm flummoxed (much to the embarrassment of everyone in my life), but this book. This series.
I mean it speaks to my nerd side and to my dystopian fetish (yeah, that exists), but it also speaks to the angry woman in my brain and also the anarchist holding a match with a huge grin on her face, ready to watch everything burn.
So yeah. I loved Book of The Lost AAV-07d25-11 (The JAK2 Cycle, Book 3) by VES Pullen.
The romance part is a slow burn, which is my favourite because it lends more time to feel bonds grow between Azzie and her dudes and makes it more believable to me. Don't get me wrong, I love a quick pump and dump, too, but this...this is slow, agonising tension with enough juvenile reactions and language to make it more fun? I still giggle over fart jokes, ok? Or maybe just more my cup of cocoa. It's a serious book written with humour, cleverly (that's a weird word to say a few times aloud, shit, it's just a weird word to look at, I mean is it even a word?).
But beyond the romance part, the story itself is gripping. This is an epic tale of revenge. It's emotional and unjust, but filled with hope. I'm clearly dazzled.
Well, not sure how to end this review, but especially if you relate to being a dork or just have some snark inside you, you'll probably like this. But, more especially if you like dystopian sci-fi adventures with some worldly innocence thrown in. And 🍆.
And now I'll wait until next month (hopefully 🤞) for book 4's release.
Wow. Just, wow. Azzie is officially eighteen, which you learn in the second book. This book starts out with Azzie learning more truths about how things are outside the walls. Then the heat kicks up between her and some of the guys. Mix in some betrayals from friends and the action just never ends.
You also get to read a couple chapters from Mouse's POV, from years before, at the beginning of the JANUS infection. It was nice to see how she feels about Azzie, since we mainly just got things dealing with Mouse from Azzie's POV.
The guys are working harder at their relationship with Azzie while still learning more about her and what she needs from each of them. It was great having different interactions with them and Azzie, both solo and as a group. Everyone is really starting to take on their different roles in her life.
Azzie is learning as well and growing along with her men. She may make mistakes as well, but at least she learns from them and is making more effort in the different relationships. It's a new experience for all of them and it was nice to see things starting to come together. That doesn't mean all problems are solved, of course.
Meeting some of the guys' family was one of my favorite parts of the book. I can't remember ever laughing as much as I did, which was great because there's a lot of instances with high tension and frustration throughout these books, just because of the world they live in.
My only regret is that there aren't any more books out yet. The book didn't end at a terribly horrible spot, like the first had. But it still leaves you hanging and I'm not sure how I'm going to survive the wait for the next book. That's not to say that I regret any of it because these books are well worth the torture of waiting for more!
Azzie is halfway there. She's alerted the ones who will lead the exodus from Salem. She's taken her foster family, the guys, the 2 other sets of twins and is now prepping in the bunker for the real escape. No more gilded cage and over draws of blood. No more iron poisoning. No more holding the vaccine she creates over other people's heads. This golden goose is headed out into the world to distribute it herself.
Spoilers ahead. So, after reading the blurb for the next I'm probably going to have to abandon this series. I do appreciate the warning. But I hate that I won't get to see Mouse again, or see if we get an actual HEA with Azzie and the guys. But the warning does say dark, and actually is honest in blurb about the darkness (which this reader greatly appreciates as it shows respect to readers) and I avoid certain levels of darkness. This series has been phenomenal so far. Azzie is no damsel, she had every step and every stage planned years in advance. She's a dynamo. The guys have learned to respect her, not just what she is, but her abilities. They'll learn even more before the book ends, too. The best part, to me, was the familial introductions. That was just beautifully done and so very Azzie lol. I guess I'll live vicariously through reviews of the next book. *sigh*
I swear each book gets better and better! I love me a good strong FMC that doesn’t take herself too seriously. Admits when she’s wrong, even if begrudgingly, loves with no limits, and stands up for what is right. No matter the consequences or opposition. And these all fit Azzie to a T. Granted I didn’t have high expectations of her in book one. She was a sickly, seemingly sheltered 17 year old high school student. In the RH genre this typically means spoiled and entitled. A lot of foot stomping, getting herself into avoidable trouble, and just being a shallow insipid fool. Not our girl Azzie! She’s so well written, self aware and generous to a fault! I’m also having a bit of a girl crush on Mouse, she’s finally made an appearance and i hate I have to wait until tomorrow to find out where the heck she’s been… from the short prologue she’s clearly making friends wherever she’s been if her escape via Postal Carrier is any indication. Off to sleep all, I skipped work today to read book two and three after staying up late to finish book one. But I gotta work in the AM because, who’s gonna pay my kindle unlimited subscription?? Happy reading friends!
Where do I even start with this book? Wow. Just wow.
I absolutely love post apocalyptic/pandemic books and good ones are hard to find. This series blew my mind. It is so well written and takes you on a journey of pain, suffering, loneliness, betrayal, love, support, and so much more. You will laugh and cry. It will make you feel happy and angry. Be prepared to feel ALL the feels.
This books has Azzie and her group continuing their their journey outside of the base. They meet people who want to help them and want to hurt them. We see the relationships between each of them grow with each struggle they overcome. We see Azzie growing as a person as she learns to accept the love the guys are giving her. We see where loyalties are and we see betrayals happen. We see love and goodbyes. We see the beginning of new relationships and the end of others. It is a complete rollercoaster and I enjoyed it 100%.
There is nothing about this book that I didnt like. I can say without hesitation that this series is my favorite pandemic/post apocalyptic series ever. Will recommend. Will read again. Cant wait for the next book.
This series has officially skyrocketed to the top of my RH favorite list. Azzie feels like my ride or die bish. I know longer after this series finishes I'll be coming back to visit her again and again. All of her guys are swoonworthy. I love how real and authentic they are. Both the guys and Azzie have real trauma and legit backstories. They struggle and make mistakes but keep trying their best. I'm LOVING watching Azzie's relationships with them develop as she learns to open up and let them in. I love that the author doesn't just let Azzie's age be a blip. She's incredibly mature for her age given everything she's been through, but she still has moments where we can see her as an 18 year old girl trying to save the world. She feels incredibly authentic in that way.
If I ha e one complaint, its that those covers really do not do this author's work justice. Beyond that though, this series is one of the best I've read in a looong time and one that I plan revisit again and again. I can't wait for the next one!
So very repetitive, Savior complex hero combination with narcissistic, manipulative and controlling.
Problem is, I don’t think the author sees it as a problem.
The slow burn reverse haram romance is basically EVERYONE FALLS IN LOVE WITH THE MFC.
No explanation. I don’t like vampire stories, but I would rather her have turned out to be a weird Chech vampire hybrid to explain the control she has over vaccinated people.
Besides Janis sounds like it could be a vampire virus right?!
I can’t with the UNBELIEVABLE preppers are stupid but we have underground self sufficient city basically.
The details of equipment they were supposed to be walking with and carrying was beyond believable.
200 pages is too long to spend telling what happened in half a day.
So leftist and gets worse the farther the series gets.
I was looking forward to some really intimate scenes, but there is so little of that compared to how the vaccine works (borrrrrrrring). Instead we get a lot of filthy talk and hardly any real experiences.
Not going to lie, this one was SO much better! The characters interacted better and all of the drama got sorted. I genuinely enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out for the next one.
I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because there is way to much medical jargon in all three of the books if I’m being honest. Nothing is written in layman’s terms and easy to follow. I skip over it for the most part because it doesn’t really add to the plot. If you understand what any of it means I bet it’s interesting to read about but again, it’s completely unnecessary since it doesn’t add to the plot. The author could have said her blood is unique and that is why it works and most of her readers would have been satisfied. While the medical jargon is supposed to adds ‘believability ’ it doesn’t mean much if you can’t understand half of it.
All in all a good read if you can get past the first two!
I can honestly say that I was a bit "meh" half way through book one, but by the end of it, I was addicted, book 2 I couldn't put down, and the minute I finished I was on to this one. I have just read the series thus far in one straight sitting and half way through the night too. Azzy is just.... Well there are no words. I am so completely and utterly blown away and in awe of her. The guys are just brilliant and so utterly perfect for Azzy. I have laughed and cried and been on the edge of my seat motormouthing 'no nono no noooo', heart beating so hard it felt like it was going to jump out of my chest. I can honestly say this is one of the best book series I have read. The way it's written is just so real, like I can actually see this happening post Covid. Absolutely love this series and am hanging on the edge of my seat for book 4.
I've been dying for this book to release since I finished book 2 and boy was it worth the wait! Why these books are awesome: 1. Totally fresh and unique story. 2. Azzie is a give no fracks MC who isn't going to let anyone bully her. She's smart, has a plan, and will get sh*t done. 3. The guys are the stuff of dream book boyfriends. In book 3 things get a little steamier (oh yeah!) and there are so many hints of more to come. Anyone else drooling for the payoff to that scene at the bridge with Sev and the rope? And what are the "other things" Sasha likes? I love that Azzie is finally getting some props for all the crap she's had to put up with. We're left with some new questions at the end of book 3—what's up with Mouse? How bada$$ is the post office? What new dangers are Azzie and the guys going to face. I can't wait to see what happens next!
Omg!!!! I don’t usually write review but holy shit!! I read all three books in one night!!! I absolutely LOVE Azzie!! Her character is seriously amazing!! Learning everything she’s gone through and seeing how the burdens she puts on herself!! And the way her men have her back (even though they occasionally fuck up!) but seriously Sev is my new book boyfriend!! I have loved him since the first book! And Spider is amazing too!! I love the long talk he has with Azzie and how she learns to trust him and is so comfortable with him she tells him things she refuses to talk about with anything else!! I mean all the guys are great don’t get me wrong but those two are just everything!
Seriously if your thinking about reading this... just do it!! You won’t regret it!
Oh my god, this book took forever with very few plot developments. I didn’t know it was possible to spend that much time on a three day hike through the woods. Then she just ends it with and epilogue about the person who has been missing for one and a half books. I really like the plot line but this book was literally a waste. You learn maybe 3 things and sort of find out what happened to Mouse. Otherwise this book is a bust. I gave it three stars because the plot is good and some of the developments have a lot of potential. This book just falls flat. I’m not sure how many books the author is planning to write but I’m guessing at least two more. This story may not be able to hold the reader’s interest through two more if it’s like this one.
I read the first 2 books hoping that the culmination of the third book would appease the "slow-burn" from the first 2 books ... especially after the author's warning that this book was basically going to be fast and furious. But what a major let down. The storyline, jokes, characters ... it's all such a great start but the steam? WHERE'S THE STEAM?!
Not to say a book should be all about the 'down and dirty', it's just... if I'm 'warned' about something, I'm expecting to at least get some good whip lash from it. But alas...nothing. It's like getting all worked up and then having a bucket of ice water dumped on your head.
Shame, because I still think about the plot and the characters, even dreamt and filled in the missing pieces on my own. I almost wish I could rewrite the book with the author and lend my editing skills to the places that needed more info while removing all the excess weight in other areas.
Book of the Lost keeps varying between a 3.5 and 4 star rating in my mind. I can't explain that, haha.
The plot continues to deliver, as does Azzie's wit. Honestly though, my favourite part of the entire book was the extremely nerdy sex-meets-DnD+ references. I giggled like a school girl and sent many photos of the passages on my kindle to my husband. Tee hee!
Azzie's men lacked distinction in their POV chapters/inner monologue. I was often going back to the chapter header to remember whose head I was in at any given time. I wish they had more distinct flavours!
Overall though, I'm still loving Azzie's story and am a little desperate for the next instalment! This series really is something a bit out of the ordinary which is nice to experience.
Words cannot express just how much I have adored this series so far! I have laughed, cried and wanted to scream and shout at different points while reading each of these amazing books. Pullen has done an incredible job of bringing these characters and this world to light.
Book of the lost picks up straight after the previous book. I felt as though this story had a lot more action than the previous 2 and it was lovely to get moving on Azzie's plan. I enjoyed the growth our FMC went through, both in terms of her relationships with her men and her own personal strength.
That cliff hanger though!! How cruel! I need the next book now. Waiting to find out what happens next is honestly going to kill me.
