I received a copy of this book from LibraryThing's Members Giveaway program in exchange for an unbiased review.

I requested this book because I was interested in the concept of a month-long formula to introduce some healthier habits into my life. After the last year, which has inarguably been tough for everyone on some level, I felt it was time for a mental reset. Overall, I enjoyed this book. I thought it was written well and everything was explained thoroughly. I think the author did a great job of creating a simple to follow formula for helping people create a better way to check in with themselves that puts them in control of their mental wellness.

I liked the conversational tone of the book. I liked that everything was explained clearly enough for us to understand, and that there was a helpful glossary of terms for beginners at the back of the book. I also liked the cheat sheets for each tip and exercise included; if you're a skimmer or going back after you finish reading for the exercise, it'll be easy to find them or get back to them later. I was pleasantly surprised to see the inclusion of meditation and grounding exercises in ways that are easy to implement into a daily routine. I use grounding exercises a lot as a coping skill for my panic disorder but haven't used them as of late, so I enjoyed finding a book that helped me reintegrate them into my routine. The tips and tricks in this book are quite simple, which is another thing I liked. I have found that I have a harder time implementing the things I learn in self-help books if they are radically different from what I was already doing because I struggle with large changes. The simpler something is, the easier it is to implement and I think One Moon did that well by using well-known techniques and giving examples of how to implement all of them into a normal day. I also really loved that self-love was given a moment to shine and the reader is encouraged to find out what that looks like for them individually. Another thing that I appreciated was that the reader was encouraged to explore, to delve deeper, and not to use the formula as a fix-all for our issues without any additional work.

I don't really have anything about the book that I flat out didn't like, but while I enjoyed most of the book overall, the opening chapters felt a bit repetitive to me. It started to read a bit like the same few sentences and points being made were just expanded on then rephrased. I will say that even though I loved the inclusion of self-love, I wish it had been first to emphasize its importance. Other than that, this was a great read. Thank you to the author for allowing me to review a copy!
