Hepdale Rain #2

People Need a Storm

Rate this book
Silas’s boyfriend is a werewolf.

And if that’s not enough, he is also Silas’s first boyfriend. But there is no time to worry about holding hands or going on dates. Not when there are other werewolves in Hepdale, who threaten to ruin more than their relationship.

Meanwhile, Jack has enough problems of his own to deal with. He’s sick of high school, sick of his family, and sick of those weird texts he keeps receiving. And to top it all off, Theo’s brother is being weirdly handsome and mysterious. Like, right in his face.

I cannot recommend reading this book enough! Its an incredible sequel to People Notice the Rain. In the first book I fell in love with all the characters, but after this they will be in my heart forever. Its great to see how Silas grows in this book and I love everyone that gets some more well deserved attention 💕 (also I love Jamie so much)

I think Cindy again does a great job in balancing heavier subject with humor, a great plot and heartwarming romances! I didnt even really talk about the plot, but the stakes have definitely been raised in this one!!

An amazing sequel to People Notice the Rain, feeling even bigger and better!

The writing is so wonderful to read (as always), I almost couldn't put it down. The addition of a new point of view adds an interesting insight into the world and the loveable existing characters. And with some cool new characters there is even more to love! (including my new favourite character, holy shit she's so great)

And that's not even talking about the plot itself. If you thought all your questions were answered in the first book, think again! Saying the stakes are bigger than expected doesn't even begin to cover it. The plot slowly increases in intensity before suddenly hitting you with an ending that got me so hard it left my mouth agape for what felt like days.

Honestly I'm still not quite over it.

WE! NEED! MORE!

Oh no no no no no Cindy, you didn’t just end this book with such a messed up cliffhanger?!?!?!?!?! Uggggggh. Anyhow, I absolutely loved this second book in the Hepdale rain series. It includes alot of angst but also some adorable feel good scenes. It balances out nicely. I love the different point of views, and how we get to know Jack better. Gosh, can I give that guy a hug? And once again the story leaves me with some questions. I’m really looking forward to the third book!

Oh.

Let that “oh.” please sink in for a little bit. Not because I’m convinced you need it, but mostly because I DO.
I’m trying to let this insane journey settle in my bones, but last time I checked (10 seconds ago) they’re still rattled.

When I started this series, I enjoyed “People notice the rain” endlessly, and I did! After 9 months tho...I’d kinda forgotten a lot about it, to the point I only knew to place the names “Silas” and “Theo”. It was mostly their story after all, a very beautifully crafted and tender one at that (and funny and at times heart wrenching and painful).
I reread it, and discovered the exact reason I gave it 5 stars, not because I want to support the author, not because I want to support anything local, but because the book plainly deserves those 5 stars. Because reading it transports me like no other book and has me kicking my legs in excitement and screaming out loud and crying! From laughter, and from feeling for all these lovely complex characters.

Now moving on to the ACTUAL book this is about:

Cindy Paul manages to create incredibly diverse and realistic characters, and it’s mind blowing to me. They are all memorable and special in their own ways, not due to intense and conflicting character traits and talents, but simply because they’re...relatable? They’re just...people, and they have their pasts and thoughts and feelings and reasonings and it fits. It just really makes sense.

As a D&D lover myself, it really does sometimes feel as if you’re witnessing a campaign with characters that do things that make you want to slap them, although a voice in the back of your head says: makes sense for them to do that tho....

I love this story and the plot! I love the different storylines and the dynamic between different relationships. I love that I got to know these characters a LOT better. AND I LOVE JACK 🥺 I feel very bad about not being able to place his name immediately (thank god for rereading) but gosh, Jack makes me a very happy human. Also a very sad one sometimes, due to his relatability. He deserves better.

I could go on writing and writing about this book, honestly. I could write pages about Augustus, Hazel and even Nico, but I probably shouldn’t.

Just a few more things though:

There was SO much intrigue in this book! I caught on to a few things fairly quickly only to forget them again only to remember them again when I pieced some things together and start screaming at my book. I think it’s safe to say that I cried multiple times about characters sharing information and talking and FIGURING THINGS OUT. This book was a good kind of stressful.

The last last chapter??? Loved it??? Love hearing from multiple people’s perspectives especially when I don’t expect it, it was great!!
In general the multiple perspectives thing made me insanely happy. I adored reading about Jack a LOT but I’m so eternally grateful I didn’t have to miss out on Silas! I love him and Theo so darn much.

OKAY.
TL;DR
I LOVED this book, probably even more than the last, but also as an addition to book 1, it was a perfect follow up and didn’t disappoint at all or overshadow too much. It was lovely, enticing and thrilling.
I can’t wait to learn more about the dreadful weather conditions in Hepdale.

Oh and: I’m 100% pretending the book stopped at the beginning of the pizza party until there’s a next book. By then I’ll remember the drama and act surprised...before I devour nr 3 as well, to make sure the babes are a-okay.

That’s all

Get in losers, we’re recommending this book to anyone and everyone!

I have no words to describe this reading experience. Honestly, I’m still shocked by the ending. Granted, it’s not Uncle Rick cliffhanger bad, but boy do I need that third book. No really, I NEED this book.

This book was as amazing as the first instalment in the series and I have high hopes for the next one. Can’t wait.

If you crave queer fantasy, angsty teens with sassy pastel besties, this one’s for you!

LOVED THIS BOOK 🖤

This book made me laugh, scream and cry throughout the story. I finished it early this morning but I am still trying to process the ending. THE ENDING!!! I need book 3 like NOW.

I loved the switching POVs between Silas and Jack as it really added a nice dynamic to the story. As I read about Silas I was still thinking of what was happening to Jack at the same time and this also happened the other way around. Because of this I still felt I lived through the story with both boys at the same time and when the stories came together in many situations my heart just overflowed by the lovely and supportive friendship they have with each other.

I also loved how we got to know more about Theo's history and his siblings Augustus and Hazel. DAMN, Augustus seriously hit me in the heart with a sledgehammer. He has soo many struggles with life but still tries to be there for his friends, pack, and especially Jack. I REALLY REALLY hope we get to see many more amazing moments with Augustus. He deserves all the love in the world.

We also see the developments in the relationship between Silas and Theo which provoked many happy sighs from my side. Their relationship is built on soo much respect, love, friendship, and support. They truly are soulmates.

Short conclusion: READ this series!!! And Cindy, please give me book 3 fast. Before I die of heartache due to missing these great characters and not knowing what will happen next!

Okay my love for this series already knows no bounds from the first book alone but to get a SEQUEL and not only that but one following my FAVORITE character? I was already so deeply invested in the book the moment it landed in my hands.

Now that is not to say that I had no hesitations about People Need a Storm because I did. I loved the first book because I loved Silas and Theo and I was heavily connected to them. For as much as I loved and enjoyed Jack I was wary that I may not connect to him as deeply as I did the others, but let me tell you now, I was WRONG.

Jack's story gives this series a breath of fresh air that not only invigorates the story but feels familiar and comforting in a way that is reminiscent of Silas'. I fell in love with the character all over again and this series and I have no doubt that you will as well!

Cindy Paul pulls no punches in this sequel and you simply MUST give it a read if you adored book 1.

Cindy Paul just gets better and better with every book. This continuation of the Rain Series has more action, more suspense, multiple perspectives, and new exciting characters! I also thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the characters from Book 1 more.
The world really opens up in this one. And yet Cindy does a great job balancing the bigger plot points with more intimate character work. There is enticing action as well as personal character development. I was gasping at some points, and clutching my heart and aww-ing at others.
All in all a very good sequel that had it all: unexpected plot twists, heartwarming found family type dynamics, young love and gay werewolves!
Can't wait for the exciting conclusion of this wonderful series.

This is such an amazing continuation of People Notice the Rain and so much happened! Let's just say stuff is going down.

God, I loved this book so much. It was so so nice reading about all the characters I've come to adore in book 1 again. Loving them even more now (which I wasn't aware was possible but here we are). And we got to learn so much more about Jack in his book and everything that is going on in his life right now. I cannot say how much I enjoyed this book and

Also, can we please all acknowledge this beautiful cover? Look at it, it's stunning!!

I can't wait for the third book to come out!!!

Overall I like this series, but I’m getting a bit frustrated with the hp references, and the inconsistent writing.

In the first book on page 240 Jack said: “We don’t support the franchise in this household anymore.”

Yet, in this book are 2 hp references: “It’s mostly thanks to Silas being there for him all day, talking and joking and watching Harry Potter with gin, because he knows Jack always feel better after.”

I wouldn’t be so mad about it, if the author already hadn’t had established in the first book that they don’t support jkr anymore, so I don’t really understand, why are there more references in the second book.

Wonderful sequel! I Iove the prose, it reminds me of TJ Klune's, speaking of, if you like the Green Creek Series by him you'll enjoy this series too.

The characters are so loveable - my only issue is the characters sometimes not noticing quite obvious plot points or piecing things together when they should've, especially when I don't believe they're dumb.

But the relationships are so fluffy and cute, characters are developing and growing and still loving despite the darker tones the story takes. Onto the 3rd book now! 🖤
