Diedra Drake created a world that is realistic, charming, scary, and one that I anxiously await a return to. I enjoyed Cursed by Fairies because Diedra merged fantasy, folklore, and mythology in a unique way that refreshes multiple genres that absolutely needed refreshing. Her approach to genre-bending and extending mythology immediately captured my curiosity and held it as I delved into chapter after chapter. I only paused to consider the creative genius it took to blend seemingly disconnected ...more

Elves, vampires, vikings, Greek gods and steamy sex scenes. Cursed by Furies is an excellent first book to what I'm sure will be a great adult fantasy series. Strong characters and a fast paced story combined with Diedra Drake's writing style make this a five star read for me. ...more

Amazing

I was drawn into this book immediately. The author did a wonderful job of telling a story with the fantasy characters that everyone loves but in a completely different light. I can’t wait to read the next book and see what happens.

It has been a while since I've read a mythological book, and this one had it all gods, Vikings, vampires, and much, much more. I know it sounds like a lot, and the story might be too overwhelming, but Drake handled this wonderfully. The blend of mystic, intrigue, adventure, and sensuality was fun to read. I look forward to seeing where the next story takes me.

If you like paranormal books with a dash of heat, this one is for you.

Drake's world of Vikings, Elves and Gods is world-building at its finest. Even when I like the author, I get upset when their world does not hold to its logic. That is not true here. It all makes sense, and you find yourself saying to yourself, "Well, yeah, of course." Without giving anything away, she beautifully blends threads that include -
1. Elves are warrior demi-gods;
2. Vampires are their creation and servants;
3. Greek Gods still exist and affect the world;
4. Vikings and banshees!

I was taken in. I love fantasy and “elves” could be my most favorite, the most wondrous beings to inhabit that world. But I was not prepared for this breed of elf and everything they were up to. I loved the mythos, characters and supernatural forces, the interlacing of all the elements with one caveat. Why did they all have to have fangs? Sure, it all fell into the story, the sun and the daylight, the bloodletting and the story was wrapped up tidily but The Anne Rice turn of events fell flat for ...more

This was a splendid tale of the supernatural world, taking us through the realms of the elves, who are unfortunately trapped on the Earthly plane, owing to a curse from their ancestors. The tale follows the life and times of Priscilla, a formidable lady elf, who is also blessed with an uncanny intuition. As Priscilla and her battalion win their way through the warring elf clans, or elf houses, as they are referred to in this book, they come face to face with numerous challenges, with war being t ...more

This is a delightful tale about a powerful female elf. If you like twists and turns and Machiavellian scheming mixed with mythology, this is the book for you. The story follows Priscilla, and her followers, as they navigate the politics of different elf houses with a goal toward peace and again being able to see the sun. As Priscilla’s abilities grow, her alliances become more fervent, and the love scenes are on fire. I loved it and can’t wait for the next book.

Thank you to the publisher for th

2.5 stars. An interesting idea with a new take on the supernatural, the problem was it fell too easily into tropes. I would read the next book in the series.

Cursed By Furies: A Tale of Vikings, Elves, and Gods by Diedra Drake was a unique spin on the idea of vampires that kept me turning pages until the very end!
The story revolves around Priscilla and her fellow Elves. Cursed a millennium ago by the furies and Aphrodite, Elves have been forced to feast on blood and never walk in the sun (what we would call vampires). As generations passed, Elves have procreated with humans, diluting their blood. Half-Elves must undergo a ritual of a blood infusion f

Cursed By Furies: An epic Tale of Vikings, Elves and Gods.
I agreed to read this book and to write a review to help out a fellow author. I hope I have done it justice.
I felt my heart sink in the first few pages as I realised that in spite of its title this is a vampire book and I don't read vampire books. I kept on reading because although I hate vampire books, these vampires were different. They were considerate vampires. They would invite a pizza boy in to send him to sleep, suck a little blood

I was so impressed by how effortlessly and artfully the author has woven different schools of mythology and fantasy together, through milennia to tell the modern day story of the cursed elves. I found Diedra's book after she reviewed my own and I'm so glad I did. A page turner from the start, the story telling had me hooked. I liked the character of, and the evolution of Priscilla. Demi-goddess, or full goddess, she is overflowing with gifts, yet it is her struggle with acceptance of her darker ...more

Cursed by Furies is a well crafted novel focused around the story of elves, and how they were cursed many years ago to essentially become what humans think of as vampires.

The thing I enjoyed most about this book was the world building. There are so many well thought out ideas revolving around the history of the elves and their evolution that I was immediately drawn into the stories created by the author.

There are quite a few characters, and the author does a good job of giving each of them uniqu

Good and evil transcends all

This book is excellent for an adult version of childhood elves. They are considered similar to vampires and have been cursed by the Gods.

The book follows the the story of Priscilla and her friends and consists as they seek to get rid of the curse that stops them from going out in the sun. They travel from the New World to the Old World to meet with the Gods and attempt to release the curse, meeting old friends and enemies along the way.

Fantastic fantasy read!!

Priscilla is a vampire but not the kind you or I know. Vampires were once elves, a great race that was cursed for their bloody history 1000 years ago. Now they may regain the sun, but at what cost?

I love how real the characters are although i will admit the open relationships among the elves really confused me. It was hard to follow who she loved and cared for. I am interested in learning more about her history and how she became who she is today.

Not exactly what I expected from this book but still a good read. I was expecting much more mythology and less of a vampire romance. The story line was easy to follow and had great plot, leaving plenty of room for sequels. The writing was good, and the action scenes were great. Plenty of varying imagery, word usage, and sentence structure was used. I really wanted more myth of the furies, vikings and gods but still overall a good read.

A well-imagined new mythos for vampires, but the action was enough without the romance.

I received an ARC of this book for review in exchange for my honest opinion from the Publisher.

This was presented to me as a High Fantasy Novel and its been sitting on my TBR for months because I just wasn't in the mood to read it. I finally forced myself to pick it up and turns out its more of a Paranormal Romance.

The vampire/elf combo was new and refreshing twist. The author NAILED the differences in Elvish and Human personalities and relationships. The sex scenes were pretty tame (I personal

Urban Mythological Fantasy at its best!

„Cursed by Furies“ by Diedra Drake is the first installment in the brand new “Cursed Elves Series”. The main character, Priscilla, is an old elf, suffering the curse of the Furies (yes! “the three” furies, but still has a lot to discover about herself, the very idea of cursed fairies is unique and a welcome breath of fresh air in book-wold inhabited by arrogant fairy folk with limitless power. Drake’s fairies are as true to mythology as you might expect, bu

Cursed by Furies is an interesting twist and take on the normal elves and demons mythos, but like a lot of mythology stories I spent a lot of time going "oh, right, ok." There were a few too many story jumps and logic gaps for me that kept pulling me out of the story, even though I knew there were fantasy elements. Overall the book was still very entertaining and I would probably consider reading the rest of the series. ...more

While I greatly enjoyed the world building of Drake, I felt the story started off slowly. The characters started off feeling a bit flat but the world and mythology of Cursed by Furies was intriguing enough to keep reading. I was glad I gave it that continued chance as it flourished greatly. Drake's world gives a new perspective to elves and vampires that merges fantasy, folklore, and classic mythology in a new and unique way. It is a refreshing change to traditional elven or vampiric stories and ...more

This is a unique take on the age old vampire stories at least for me. This story starts off with the background, the 3 Furies have cursed the elves due to their constant fighting among the houses/families of elves. Each Fury applies her own curse. The 3 curses are the need to drink blood to live, inability to procreate naturally and can no longer be out in the sunlight. The way to create new elves/vampires is through a full blood transfusion, not just a bite as in typical vampire stories. The st ...more

This is one of my favorite reading genres. I had not read any books by Diedra Drake prior to this one...she has now joined by to be followed authors list. The story line is slowly developed, bringing the characters to life and explaining how they arrived at this time so well that it is hard to believe this is the 1st book in the series. While it does remind me of some of my other favorite story lines, this is definitely a new cast of characters that will keep us entertained for quite awhile, I h ...more

From the first paragraph you are transported to a descriptive and vivid world where myth meets the modern world. An interesting and new take on the vampire myth that incorporates the legends of different cultures. Some strong and interesting characters, although some of those who where a big part of the beginning of the book were sadly lost from the middle of the book onward. Lots of magic, lots of battles, lots of sex, all well written. An enjoyable book and I shall be reading the sequel.
