A facinating and empathy-building glimpse into what life in South Africa was like for black people in the 1970-80's. Also very interesting to see how Chikane's theology developed from being very individualistic and spiritual to being liberative and social (without leaving behind the former). Chikane is definitely an inspirational figure!

Whether because Chikane wrote the original book on the run or because of a less linear approach, the book felt quite repetitive and scattered at times and was filled with court documents, letters and cards that didn't always seem necessary. Recommended nonetheless.
