Was anyone else completely surprised when this book didn't rhyme? It's all set up so you expect it and then...it doesn't. Odd. My husband was coming up with better couplets to finish the lines as I was reading it aloud for practice. Love the pop-ups of Charlie's body. Very well done.

The kids love this one. The pop-ups are silly, like Charlie's gigantic feet. I do occasionally have reservations about this one because of the "Charlie eats a lot, that's why he has such a big fat tummy" spread, but overall Charlie has big body parts because he eats healthy and is growing, so I don't think having a big fat tummy is meant to be read as a bad thing, and it isn't. It's just a bit awkward sometimes, inciting children to laugh at someone's big fat tummy. Maybe I'll feel better if I start trying to see it as using fat as a positive or neutral descriptor.

Hey, didn't this used to be titled Charlie the Chicken? Why, yes. The sadly out-of-print Charlie has gotten a reissue with a new title and a bigger format. Now, he's even bigger than ever. I love this book! The sound chip in Charlie's tummy on the front cover is a little gimmicky, though. So, skip buying a used copy of this pop-up on Amazon.com for $50+ and buy the new version.

Charlie Chick loves to eat and eat. Wheat and corn, anything he can get his little beak on.

Charlie the Chick is a great pop up book but as the other reviews state doesn't have any rhyme to it. The last pop out is hilarious!

Not my favorite. I think it was too simple for me, and not in the good way simplicity can go.

I love the pop-ups in this book. The story is very simple, but it's the pictures/pop-ups that really make it a fun book.

Very well liked! Everyone had to press Charlie's stomach to make him peep and everyone had to measure their hand against his feet. 4/10/12

Worked well in lap time, though the he no longer peeps when his stomach is pressed. 4/22/14

A little worse for wear, but still goes over well. 3/31/15

Used in Lap Time (enjoyed) and PJ (found frightening)

My 5 month old son loves this pop-up book, he squeals with delight every time I turn to the pop-up page.
Simple words, nice illustration, fun pop-ups, and short enough to suit a child's attention span.

Short little book about Charlie the Chick and what he eats to get so big.

Cartoony art illustrates the action, with popups on every other page.

Very short, but would probably work for a baby time!

Both the Pink Kid and the Blue Kid loved this book. Particularly good for the 3-4 age group who delight in the "surprise ending".
