Rules of Love #2

The Virgin Game Plan

Rate this book
A sexy standalone forbidden sports romance from #1 'New York Times' Best-seller Lauren Blakely!

The woman I want is as off-limits as they come.

I had an excuse two years ago when I met her on campus. She interviewed me for a story on major league baseball's rising stars, and we shared a hot, passionate night that ended far too soon, and without a mention of who her father was.

Now I know the innocent but sexy woman I can’t stop thinking about is the coach's daughter.

That means her dad is the guy who determines if I bat fourth in the starting lineup in every game, or ride the bench.

All the more reason to resist alluring, confident, brainy Reese every time I run into the reporter-turned-sports publicist.

That ought to be easy enough, until the time she confesses she's still carrying her V card, and she’s been wanting me to cash it in since the day we met.

Staying away from her is going to be harder than resisting a fastball down the middle.

Especially since I'm pretty sure she's the one who got away, and letting her slip through my fingers again would be a rookie mistake.

summary: this is a story of 'the right person at the wrong time'. they have this one night together, then 2 years later they find each other, but now their relationship is forbidden.
(they are both celibate during the time apart)

Laure Blakely's audiobooks are always amazing, but I think her books for me are better in a physical format, but sadly the only books published by her here, I already own and love, so audiobook it is.
This book is very low angst, even the forbidden factor wasn't angsty.

if you want a fast book, with good steam and a sweet romance, read this. :)

P.S.: my God, this cover is WOW.

Reese is graduation college and has asked a up and coming baseball player, Holden for an interview for her podcast. He said yes, as this was his alma mater and he appreciated her direct and bold request.

The two hit is off immediately. They had sassy and fun dialogue as well as instant chemistry. The two realize their special and instant connection and attraction. They have dinner and end up at her apartment but are interrupted by a call for Holden about a change of plans for the player. They talk about seeing each other again but Reese is given a job opportunity in another country that she just couldn't turn down.

Two years later she's back and they are both living in the same town. They run into each other at a charity event/party and instant connection again. But find they both have obstacles that are hindering them being together again.

This book had a lot of potential to be great. But sadly to me it was an average read. The best part was the basis of these characters and what they stood for. Both hard workers, honest, fun, family was important. And loved how each valued/respected the other's view on sex and relationships. Both were celibate during their separations. He was not your typical athlete man whore. And she was a virgin and wanted to have her first experience with someone that was special that she valued and cared about. It was so refreshing and nice to have this perspective for a couple.

So why an average read, because the execution and trajectory for the couple could have been done with so much more depth. The additional subplots and issues also took away from the couples romance and character building in my humble opinion.

Maybe it's the authors writing style that's not for me, though I did read one of her other books and really enjoyed it. Will give her another try.

Once again, Lauren has slayed me with her utterly delightful cast of characters and storyline. It wasn’t always like this between me and a Lauren book. In the old days, she was a constant hit or miss for me and I almost gave up completely until one day I decided to give audio books a second try and well ….

Not only have I almost listened to every single audio on her backlist, but now I read the ebook when it goes live or as an ARC and dive right into the audio the minute that it goes live! Hi, my name is Jessica and I’m an LB addict.

Holden and Reese had that it factor from the very beginning. I didn’t have to warm up to them or their story, it happened from page one! Their storyline was fresh and fun and really made me want to jump into the story and be in their circle. She blended heat and humour expertly and wrapped the whole thing up in a huge heart. I still have a huge smile on my face from it all but that’s probably because I finished the audio just a few days ago LOL

Investing in a Lauren Blakely story is never not going to be a #win. I’ve learned throughout the years of reading her work and going back and rereading a lot of them, that my experience as hit or miss was not because of the books themselves, but because I wasn’t in the right head space to accept the stories for what they were at that time. Romantic comedies can be tricky and straddle the very thin line between humorously outrageous and outrageously humorous. When they manage to stay right on the line, they are gold but if they drop to one side or the other it can be off putting and I have learned that Lauren knows expertly well how to stay on that line so if I’m ever not feeling one of her books, its more than likely a me thing :) Okay, now that I’ve completely gone off topic I will exit stage left #sorrynotsorry (go do the thing lol)

* 5 swoon-worthy stars *

The Virgin Game Plan is Lauren Blakely's newest sports romance and I am totally in love with it! This sweet, sexy, swoony story most definitely should be your next must-read. It has everything you've come to expect from a Blakely story: blistering hot chemistry, strong friendships, multi-layered characters that are both interesting and fun, and fabulously witty banter. I loved everything about this story and you will too.

If you're looking for your next swoon-worthy book boyfriend, look no further because Holden is going to rock your world! Blakely's newest hero quickly climbed to the top of the charts on my book boyfriend list and I'm not sorry about it! Holden is FIRE! I loved his dedication and laser-focus on baseball, his incredible friendships with both his teammates and his rivals, and his strong morals. He is not your typical athlete! Reese was the perfect match for Holden. She's motivated, loyal, funny, and strong. I loved their meet-cute and how they never forgot one another. When they reconnect after two years apart, these two still feel the same pull. In a word, they are magnetic. With huge obstacles in their way, these two need to fight their way to their happily ever after.

The Virgin Game Plan is a complete standalone story even though it is book #2 in the Rules of Love series. Blakely brings back several favorite characters and introduces us to new ones who I can't wait to get to know further. Everything about this book was a joy to read. Don't miss it! 5 stars

Lauren Blakely follows up her sexy, brother’s best friend baseball romance with this sweet and steamy second chance story.

When Reese Fallon scored an interview with professional second baseman Holden Kingsley for her podcast, she never expected to have such a strong and deep connection with him. He’s honest, charming and very interested in her. But the timing was horrible as they both have goals to pursue that take them in different directions.

Two years later they’re both in San Francisco. The attraction feels stronger, the banter is just as fun and easy, but their circumstances seem to be even more difficult than before. There are Rules of Love and Holden shouldn’t date his coach’s daughter.

I can always count on Lauren Blakely for stories with the best repartee that’s sure to make me smile. It’s easygoing, witty and flirty. The romance between Holden and Reese evolved naturally with lots of steam and swoon. Even the forbidden factor is on the very low end of the angst factor.

Both main characters are very likeable. He’s determined and kind. She’s smart and confident, and they both know what they want and are willing to pursue it. I love that Lauren creates a group of friends for both Reese and Holden who support them and give the story a lovely added layer.

The Virgin Game Plan is book #2 of the Rules of Love series by Lauren Blakely. A standalone sports romance told from both points of view, with multiple epilogues. Tropes: forbidden romance

Audiobook Review

I adore Lauren Blakely and her Rules of Love series. I have been so eager for Reese and Holden’s story since the end of The Virgin Rule Book. Their chemistry was instant and magnetic. I adored their flirty banter and chemistry right from the start. Unfortunately the universe had other plans for them. Right when they both decide they want to pursue a relationship Reese obtains her dream job out the the country which takes her away from Holden for two years. When she comes home they are finally in a place to reconnect but now they realize her father is the team coach. Hello forbidden relationship! Lauren writes the best characters. I loved Reese’s passion for her work, her quirkiness and sweet side. Holden is such a fun loving guy. He is charming, loyal and patient and I just adored these two together. After finishing the Virgin Game Plan I’m eager to get Grant and Declan and Sierra and Chance’s stories next!

Ava Erickson and Jason Clarke are both fabulous narrators. Their story telling is flawless. Their voices complimented each other well. The pace and speed of their narration kept me connected to the story and characters & I did not want to stop listening from beginning to end. Amazing job!

'The Virgin Game-plan’, despite the rather non-enticing and somewhat cringey title, is a very tight and sweet second-chances lovers-to-lovers story with a gap of two years in between where neither one forgot each other.

Whatever you’d like to call Reese’s and Holden’s relationship, I’d give Lauren Blakely kudos for making it open, mature and honest. Whenever you think something might end up being a potential for blow-up for conflict sometime later down the road, it’s immediately nipped in the bud, resolved through talking and/or mature decision-making.

In this respect, ‘The Virgin Game-Plan’ is—like so many of Blakely’s other books—nearly angst-free, primed for easy readability, with family-issues coming to the fore with forgiveness and reconciliation becoming the prime movers in all characters going forward with as little of a grudge as possible.

Many of the supporting cast in Blakely’s books do come and go in a way that's non-intrusive: their stories are those that I’d probably read and forgotten, sad to say. But they don’t really detract from Holden/Reese’s story, only that they add to the general sense of the happy-ever-after type of lightness that gives romance escapism its famed high and the glittering stardust.

My only (minor?) complaint that the trade-off for readability is memorability: the very prolific Blakely writes fun and generally-likeable characters and protagonists of late, but after a while, their stories (not helped by the sheer number that Blakely churns out) seem to coalesce into a familiar pattern of flying through a book then easily forgetting about it a day or so later.

4.5 “What-if” stars!

Holden is a rising baseball player. He focusses on the game and is a planner when it comes to everything in his life. However, he veers off course when he meets Reese and his life is irrevocably changed before he knows it.

I got up that morning with one goal. But then I met her, ditched my plans for the afternoon, and spent it with her instead. When I kissed her at the edge of campus, beneath the twilit sky, under a canopy of trees, the night felt young and possible.
Even though we weren’t. We were worlds apart, absolutely
impossible.
That’s how she became my what-if girl.

Holden and Reese share an amazing day that turns into an unforgettable evening. They have a connection and they want to try being in a relationship despite the fact it would be long distance. Before they can meet up again, Reese is pulled away to pursue her dream and they lose contact, always wondering where the other is and how they are doing.

Two years later they are in the same city and when they bump into each other, that connection is still there. Ready to go all in, they discover that Reese’s father is the new manager of his baseball team and she is now off limits.

The Virgin Game Plan is an entertaining forbidden, second chance sports romance and a fantastic addition to the Rules of Love series. I love Holden and Reese. They are no-nonsense, wonderful characters who quickly found a place in my heart.

Reese is a determined, confident heroine, and Holden is a sweet, swoony hero. From the start, they just click. They have fantastic chemistry, and fun, flirty, banter. They are open and honest, and it’s easy between them.

Now, she’s the coach’s daughter and totally off limits. Bring on the sexual tension. It’s so thick when these two are together and it doesn’t take long before they give in, and it is sweet, swoony, and smoking hot.

I want to say that we can be friends. But Holden and I were never friends. We were a match set to kindling. We were instant attraction. We were passion and respect, igniting all at once. We were destined for one path and one path only.

I loved the pacing of the story, and I believed the progression of their relationship. I also love that there is very little drama. They are mature and reasonable and know how to communicate. They just make sense, and I was rooting for them the moment they met.

I don’t have a plan. I don’t know what’s next. But I know this much—it’s not time to move on. It’s time to go for it. Whatever the hell that entails.

Overall, I loved The Virgin Game Plan. Second chance romance is one of my favorite tropes and this one was really well done. It’s original and entertaining and so much fun. I adored Holden and Reese and enjoyed their story.

RATING: 4.5/5

Lauren Blakely delivers a swoon worthy second chance sports romance in The Virgin Game Plan that will leave you rooting for the characters until the very end.

The story starts off with Reese Fallon scoring an interview with major league baseball rising star, Holden Kingsley. As a university student, she hopes that her podcast will open new opportunities for her in sports marketing when she graduates. But what Reese wants the most is to make a name for herself, to have her own reputation and do her own thing where she is not just her father’s daughter. So when Reese nabs the interview with the second baseman for the LA Bandits, she is excited to meet him.

It’s when she does and sees how charming he is that she wishes they didn’t have to part ways. He happens to feel the same and they both share a passionate night that ended too soon. Until she gets a job opportunity of a life time that Reese is ready to say goodbye to Holden without realizing that their paths were going to cross again in the future. Now they have the opportunity to pick up where they left off, yet there are new obstacles in the horizon that they both need to face in order to have a future together.

Holden Kingsley’s life revolves around being prepared and always having a plan. When he gets an email about a possible interview, Holden agrees right away. He has worked really hard to get to where he is and his career is looking very promising. His focus is on his career, but when he sees Reese Fallon for the first time, he is immediately taken aback by her beauty. She is smart, confident and loves sports. They have so much in common that he doesn’t want to walk away from her and for once lets go of his plans in order to be with her. But just when he thought that he could make things work with her, she gets a job opportunity and they part ways. It’s when he sees her again that he vows to make her his and never let go of her again. Until he finds out who her dad really is and how that might affect a possible relationship going forward.

I throughly enjoyed reading The Virgin Game Plan, Lauren Blakely delivers an instanlove sports romance story that had me reading until the very end. The characters were relatable and their chemistry was sizzling. It’s clear from the start that they have a strong connection that neither of them want to leave the other. They understand each other very well and this makes Holden think that maybe they can work things out. Until they have to go their separate ways and they don’t see again until years later. They are very family orientated, but there are things that Holden doesn’t know about Reese that she fears of how he is going to look at her once he finds out. They both fear of how the public is going to take the news of their relationship and they have to figure out if it’s worth fighting for it or not. All in all, if you like a good sports romance filled with sweet and steamy scenes then I would highly recommend checking out The Virgin Game Plan, the ending truly comes full circle! :)

5 SMOOCHES!

I love a good sports romance, and Lauren Blakely has written some of my favorites. She knocked it out of the park with the first book in the Rules of Love series, The Virgin Rule Book, and she hit a home run with this book, The Virgin Game Plan, too. I listed to the audio, and Jason Clarke and Ava Erickson were positively fantastic. Their natural chemistry perfectly portrayed these characters and brought them to life. Coupled with Blakely’s witty prose, their performances created an unputdownable forbidden sports romance full of longing, lust and all these wonderful second-chance-at-love vibes.

I loved Reese. She was whip-smart, driven, hard-working, but as Holden’s coach’s daughter, she was also very off limits. There was an innocence to her that wasn’t naive or immature but instead played up the confident, sexy woman that was emerging. Holden was completely focused on his career in professional baseball. A good guy through and through, he was definitely in deep with Reese, but he was struggling with the unspoken player’s code and his loyalty to his coach. I loved his friendships with the other guys, despite the fact that they were technically his rivals, and I loved how close he was with his family. Reese may not have had the greatest relationship with her father, but I really like how directly and maturely she handled their rift.

There was so much substance to Holden and Reese’s story, and Blakely took readers on this couple’s fateful journey to happily ever after, carefully telling their story through their ups and downs. The electricity of their first meeting was thwarted by fate throwing—almost immediately—a serious wrench into their plans. Then two years down the line as they realize they’re both back in the same city, clearly ready to pick up where they left off, and the fickle mistress fate once again toys with their plans, foiling them before they can even materialize. Given the circumstances, Holden and Reese settle into a friendship despite the fact that they’re both seriously crushing on each other. There was such a natural ease between them, but it was that nearly overwhelming attraction, the soul-deep yearning for each other, and the stone cold fact that they both wanted so much more than friendship that ultimately drove this couple together. Their romance was overflowing with all those gotta-have-you-now, I’m-so-into-you feels, creating a truly smoking hot, heart-thumping, feel-good love story.

Lauren Blakely’s romances are as known for their wit and charm as they are for their heat and heart, but what they aren’t known for are being overly angsty or unnecessarily dramatic–and that’s precisely what I love about her writing. Cover-to-cover, her love stories are an absolute joy to read. These are the kinds of books that I’m happy to pick up and that make me happier with each passing page. This was exactly the kind of romance she gave her readers here in The Virgin Game Plan. I was so totally caught up in Reese and Holden’s love story, I listened to it straight through without pausing. I’m so excited about this series, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the other characters stories! Five smooches from me for The Virgin Game Plan by Lauren Blakely!

Lauren Blakely stepped up to the plate and absolutely smashed a homerun with her latest release “The Virgin Game Plan” and I really had zero clue I would love this book so much! This is one of the few LB books that I walked into without much knowledge other than it would be a “guy falls for the coach’s daughter” storyline. Well, it is way more than that and I’m so happy that I received an early listener’s copy.

Holden and Reese are our main characters, voiced perfectly by Jason Clarke and Ava Erickson, their adventure starts off as an insta-love connection that really sparks the chemistry off the page (and earbuds!) immediately. As with most of Blakely’s writings, we have an interconnected group of friends that relate to past and future tales, which fans like me completely enjoy. These type of romance series are so much fun; like walking into a long running TV show and never knowing which Easter egg style locations, characters, or coffee shoppes will pop back up again, and we scream with delight when they do! As Holden and Reese’s lust goes from burning down the house to ridding the bench, these added roles tote the story along giving you growth and development to the main characters.

Finding each other again with a second chance isn’t easy and Blakely puts all kinds of foul balls in the way of the happily ever after, but none of it feels forced or contrite. The flow on this plot works out perfectly and I could not be more in love with the way the tale ebbs to the final epilogue.

As stated before, Jason Clarke and Ava Erickson are just smashing as the voice actors in this audiobook. I do not remember hearing them paired together in my library before, and now I want them together a lot more! Mr. Clarke has got a range almost like no other male voice in romance – he can be 5 different guys in a scene and would think there were extra people in the booth recording with him! Absolutely amazing talent for the laughter, banter, and steam Blakely provided in the text. Then to pair with Ms. Erickson, who has a voice like springtime in bloom. Can a voice just make you want to fall in love? Well, Ava does that to me, especially with sultry sounds and laughter within the bantering lines. I could listen to her read a cookbook (because who needs a phonebook!). Of course, if Ms. Blakely wrote the cookbook, it would probably be full of happiness, sparks, and joy, just like most everything she writes.

I have been on a bit of a Sports Romance kick lately and this was right up my alley.
I always forget that Lauren can bring the steam factor, sometimes she goes light and then other times it’s like hello I need to fan myself.

This book had more steam and the tension but with that authentic connection I love about romance. You root for this couple and your feel sad and happy when they feel sad or are happy.

I liked that we get Holden’s pov about his career but also his feelings.
I loved that Reese is so herself but she too has things she can’t or won’t express and time heals. But also being honest I love that about LB’s books honesty is a big part I relate.
Loved that ending, loved the epilogues wow are we in for a ride I can’t wait!

The narration was freaking fantastic as always. I love when an author gets it. Gets that we audiobook lovers need to feel the connection from the narrators and you really do with these narrators they get it, just enriches the story that much more.

reese and holden met two years ago when she interviewed him on her sports podcast. that spark that soon exploded into something more became nothing as holden needs to travel to different areas for his baseball games and as reese got an amazing opportunity abroad. the night they reunited, this pair found out that reese's father is holden's new team manager. despite that, neither of them could deny the utter chemistry they share.

i liked how free and open reese and holden were with their feelings towards one another. be it carnal desires or falling in love, they talk about it without any hesitation. there's no worry of whether the other person would respond the same way or feel the same thing. they put their hearts out there.

The Virgin Game Plan is the second book in the Rules of Love series and a feel-good, full-length sports-themed standalone. Told in dual POV, our hero and heroine, Holden and Reese, possess all of Lauren Blakely’s wit and charm, are flirty and dirty, and simply irresistible.

I loved that they met by chance when she interviewed Holden, a pro-ball player from her alma mater, for her podcast. Lauren never fails to write the swooniest heroes, and Holden is such a class act. He is thoughtful, kind, appreciates his talent and doesn’t take it for granted, loves his family, level headed, and most importantly, not a player. Once he and Reese meet, they only have eyes for each other and they round the bases more than once in this super steamy and sweet romance.

I love how Reese explores her feelings, has a bestie, and knows what she wants professionally and personally. Love how she wants to make a difference in her marketing and publishing career by helping others, and how even though her family life is not perfect, she reaches out to make it better. Love how well she knows and enjoys sports, her easy banter and comfort level with Holden, and how deeply she trusts and respects him as well as wants to jump him!

Holden and Reese were always open with their attraction and feelings, but it wasn’t the right time and the right place for them to be a couple, and the sexual tension just builds and builds. And when they finally act on their insane physical desire, there is no turning back. There are reasons why these two shouldn’t be together, but are they enough? Is there a way that these forbidden friends-to-lovers can have it all?

If it’s a romance by Lauren Blakely, you can be sure it will have a happy ending! Love all of the interconnected, secondary characters, too, who add so much to the story line, and am excited for more in the books to come.

I liked this one a lot. It was really sweet, fun and steamy. The chemistry between Reese and Holden was obvious, and I liked their relationship. I felt at times that their relationship was too easy, and they didn’t really struggle with anything, but I still overall liked it.

Confession time.... LB books are my guilty pleasure. No matter what mood I’m in, there’s a book of hers I’ll love and will devour in hours! This book is no exception. It brought me down memory lane with recurring characters from previous books.

This book is like visiting your hometown after having been gone for a long time. I Iove LB's books and its been a while since I've read a new release.
I enjoyed catching up with previous characters from some of my favorites books.

Holden and Reese have an instant connection when they meet during an interview she's doing for her podcast in college. Timing wasn't right but, oh, my.. that first kiss they shared was what love songs are made from!! That kiss scene was like a movie playing out in my head and I wanted more! Alas, the queen of tease made us wait for their next encounter.

This book was perfect example of why I will keep coming back to Lauren's books... she gave good tease and a great HEA and an extra shot of nostalgia! Excuse me while I go back and reread all the books!!

***ARC provided by the Author***

Holden and Reese have the kind of chemistry that almost literally jumps off the page and leaves you feeling invested in their story from the beginning. In wanting them to be together and wanting to get to know them as well.

I also loved that this is the rare second chance romance where you are also there for the 1st chance at love that doesn't quite work out. I also loved the way this was handled, the way it evolved and allowed you to get to know them together, and then apart, all in preparation for when they were together again.

And, the separation was also kind of perfect. It felt like a missed connection, the kind you read about where someone sees someone briefly, and then they are gone, for whatever reason. But in a more tangible way.

The first time they see one another again, their connection, and the way it's written was 2nd chance romance perfection. Yup, I said it. Perfection.

The kind of perfection that keeps you up way too late at night and makes you want to sneak in a couple of chapters when you should be working...and, it's the absolute best when a book is so good you can't bear to be separated from it until you know what is going to happen and how it is going to work out.

I enjoyed and recommend this title.

The Virgin Game Plan is the second book in the Rules of Love series and it was a great addition to this series! I love a good sports romance and this definitely fits the bill!

Holden and Reese met by chance when he was getting his start in the big leagues and she was finishing up college. Reese had a podcast that Holden came on as a guest and sparks flew between the two. When circumstances took them in different directions, they weren't able to explore what was between them. Fast-forward two years and another chance meeting brings them back into one another's orbit, but will circumstances keep them apart again or will they be able to make it work?

I loved Reese because she was a strong woman who knew what she wanted both personally and professionally. She had some rough times when she was younger, but she used those to better herself and in the end to better the relationships with her family and even the budding one with Holden. Holden was amazing. He was talented, kind, thoughtful and genuinely cared about others. I liked that he wasn't the stereotypical athlete either, he made it clear he was not a player and was a one woman man. The two of them together were magic and I loved that they never denied what they were feeling, only tried to figure out a way to make it work.

Another winner by Lauren Blakely and one of my favorites of hers.

I really enjoyed this book. It kept me listening throughout the day wanting to know what was going to happen next. My only issue really is the virgin element and some things that are said that leave me trying to figure out how and why. Otherwise, it’s a fun and entertaining story. I love that it had very little drama. And practically none in the relationship. The consent conversations were important to the characters and that really made an impact on the way they were viewed. I know I loved Holden just a little bit more for his concern.

I will say that out of the five...yes five epilogues, I felt only two were really about this couple. The rest were more to let us know about other characters. It was fun to include but not necessary for the conclusion of this couple’s story.

The narration was top-notch. When I heard it was going to be Ava Erickson and Jason Clarke I could have jumped in excitement. Talk about a dream team narrator pair-up, and they did not disappoint. Props to Lauren for using someone with a believable British accent for a side character. I love how Ava and Jason’s voices complemented each other and has their transitions were smooth and easy to listen to. Five star performances from both of them. The production was great with no issues.

The Virgin Game Plan (Rules of Love #2) by Lauren Blakely
3.5 stars
M/F Romance
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Reese is smart, driven, wants to make it on her own and not on her dad's name, but most of all, she's a good person. She loves her friends and mom and knows that she can make it because of their support. Her relationship with her dad is another story and despite her being a grown-up in the situation, I wanted more from him, for her.

Holden is caring, funny, charming and all about his family and baseball. But, when he sees Reese again, after two years, he can't deny their chemistry. If he could set aside his career for her, he would.

These two have to find their way around young romance, early life obstacles and find their own normal. Neither wants to taint each other, but they also can't deny that they could have what most people search their entire lives for. Who are they to deny themselves? Especially when they both take a step back and really look at the situation.

The chemistry between these two jumps off the page. You can't help but root for them. Blakely writes a funny, young love story that will hit you right in the feels.

5 Star review The Virgin Game Plan (Rules of Love #2) by Lauren Blakely
The second book in the Rules of Love series and it was just as entertaining and engaging as the first book. This is a forbidden sport romance story about Holden and Reese who met a few years ago and spent a passionate night together. Fast forward to the present and Holden is shocked to discover that the woman who he has thought about is in fact his coach's daughter and therefore totally off limits.
As with previous books by Lauren Blakely there was plenty of heat and a great deal of humour. The camaraderie and friendship that Holden has with his teammates was entertaining.
When I first read the blurb for this one I knew that this was going to be a fun, entertaining story and it was exactly what I got. Both the main characters of Holden and Reese were likeable, engaging and easy to relate too along with a cast of secondary characters who were also fun and interesting.
I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
Reese and Holden met when she interviewed him for her podcast, their chemistry was instant and off the charts. When life throws a curveball in between them, they go their separate ways. Neither forgets the other as their careers take off. After a few years, their paths cross and the sparks are still there. They want to explore where things might go, until another curveball.
Can these two navigate this thing called life and make a relationship work? Will things get in the way? Will they ever get their one perfect night together?
I love a second chance romance and author Lauren Blakely has hit this one out of the park with Reese and Holden. They are fun, flirty, passionate, devoted, supportive, and very patent. They know what they wanted and waited for the right time to go after it. This story has all the feels I love to read in a story to make it great. I hope you love it too.

What a fantastic addition to the Rules of Love Series and in book two we get Holden and Reese’s forbidden romance. Holden and Reese met and shared a night of passion a few years ago and now they come face to face again but he is shocked to find out the woman who haunts his dreams is in fact his coach’s daughter and that means she should definitely be off limits.
So will they cross the line and risk everything......
As soon as I read the blurb I knew this was going to be a great read but what took this romance to another level was the whole cast of wonderful characters, I fell hard and fast for Holden and Reese, I swooned and sighed at the sizzling chemistry they shared, I smiled at the banter shared with his teammates and I loved everything about this entertaining, fun read that I have no hesitation in recommending to all romance lovers. Now I’m excited for what’s next in this great series.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the second book in the series, and a fun addition to the series. I love how these books link in with the Men of Summer series - it was really fun to see how others saw that relationship developing as a side plot.

This is a great mix of second chance romance with sports at its heart. Reese and Holden definitely deserve an HEA, but there are some pesky rules standing in their way. Holden is a rule keeper, but he is wise enough to see that Reese is worth breaking every one, but whether that will end his baseball career and his longest friendship.

Such a good mix of sport, development of Reese's PR career, and the growing closeness between them. and some hints at future storylines!

From the start I fell in love with Reese and Holden. Their first meeting was so perfect and they had so much promise from the start, until life and opportunities came Reese’s way and she couldn’t say no.

From the moment they met there was a connection and chemistry. Even years later there is still so much chemistry and a great connection. I loved that despite the short amount of time together in the beginning and years apart Reese and Holden never forgot about each other. Reese and Holden’s journey hasn’t been easy from the moment they met, but I loved every single moment of it. There was steaminess, sweetness and little bit of drama all mixed in.

I loved the secondary characters in their story, some we’ve already met and others I can’t wait to meet, especially Grant and Declan.

If you’re looking for a forbidden, second chance sports romance this is one to check out.

When major league baseball player, Holden, returns to his alma mater to sit in on a panel discussion, our heroine, Reese, invites him to be interviewed for her college podcast. Holden enjoys her easy going nature, knowledge of sports, and thoughtful questions as they walk through campus. In spite of their red-hot chemistry, entering into a relationship doesn't seem to be in their cards at the moment since he plays in a different city, and she's about to embark on an opportunity of a lifetime. As fate would have it, their paths converge two years later when they're finally in San Francisco together. Ah, but Fate has other ideas when obstacles to their happily ever after again surface. The heartfelt conversations between the two added to their likability. We also get to revisit with his baseball friends which add another level of LOL moments!

A great story from start to finish. A sweet and sexy second chance.
Loved the couple, loved the storyline.
Sometimes a couple are just meant to be and time nor distance can stop it. It's just fate! And that was most definitely true in this book.
I feel like a broken record when talking about Lauren Blakely books. The type of love stories she writes are why I read romance. Perfect stories of people falling in love.
A little peek at her next one has me wanting it RIGHT NOW!

A Great Sports Romance

They say the second time is the charm and how it was for Holden and Reese. This was a page turning sports romance with humor, patience, road blocks and has a great HEA.
