Some nice style combos, but nothing really groundbreaking, especially if you've read other style guides before. To give Gok Wan credit, he really knows how to dress a woman well for her body type though - the outfits he picks for the models (of different sizes) in this book really suit them and help make them look slimmer. Some unexpected combinations as well. I also liked his colour matching and colour combos - if you are looking for some interesting colour palettes, this book may be useful.

I loved his tv show (How to Look Good Naked), and was needing a style update, so this caught my eye at the library. I love the style its written in (Hi you gorgeous gals!), and while I didn't get as many new ideas, it is a good refresher of what is usually written about this topic.

How To Dress (2008) by Gok Wan is a wonderful book with many excellent fashion tips.

The book is really great. It guides readers through all the different elements they need to create the perfect going out outfits. There is emphasis on different elements which make the perfect outfits such as the basics, under garments and the outerwear. Some occasions are given their own chapters like weddings and holidays as well as generally going out and there is a section specically for Mums. For workwear advice there is also a section on hand to help with that. There is also a section near the end on beauty to complete the overall look. There is also notes sections where you can take down handy reminders while you are putting your look together and a dictionary of where all the clothes used in the book came from. There is lots of great advice on accessories too and a great variety of looks to put together and choose from. The book is wonderfully stylish with wonderful glossy photographs throughout and the advice is absolutely amazing. There is so many great fashion tips and tricks here and the tone throughout is very accessible and very like Gok is your friend helping you look your best.

Sometimes some fashion books can be a little bit elitist in a way but I didn’t find that here. I found that the advice could work for anyone on any budget and that you only needed to be creative and determined regardless of your budget. I think the way you are guided from the basics to the beauty is very well thought out and put together. I love the balance stuck between taking what we are doing here seriously but also taking it as fun. Some books can go a little bit too one way or the other but I think the balance between the two worked really well. It is kind of fashion and beauty made easy but with lots of insider tips and tricks.

Really very enjoyable and very informative.
