I received review copies of two novellas in this collection, The Christmas Dance and Knight Events.

The Christmas Dance by River Ford
I normally enjoy romances where the couple is well into middle age and has a past together. The added years of lives lived beyond what is typically seen in romantic fictional partners typically adds a richness and depth that younger couples just can't have. Unfortunately, I found this particular story with a middle-aged couple at its center to be strange. The charac I received review copies of two novellas in this collection, The Christmas Dance and Knight Events.

I normally enjoy romances where the couple is well into middle age and has a past together. The added years of lives lived beyond what is typically seen in romantic fictional partners typically adds a richness and depth that younger couples just can't have. Unfortunately, I found this particular story with a middle-aged couple at its center to be strange. The characters, especially the heroine, were not as mature-acting as they should have been for their ages (around 50). I couldn't quite believe that the heroine would barricade herself in a bathroom, calling her older sister and brother-in-law for help, when the hero shows back up in her life. Seriously, please! I also didn't like how the heroine was so hung up on her weight and looks... and even on the hero’s when she first sees him. Isn't there a point at which we don't have to consider what society wants from us in terms of looks? Do we only value ourselves and others because of how we look? Grrrr. Again, please! It's as if the author didn't quite understand that she was dealing with an older couple who would handle things differently—and hopefully see the world differently—than teenagers or young adults!

Knight Events by Sheri Richey
I found this to be an odd story. I wasn't quite sure if I liked the heroine at the start as she just seemed a bit strange, perturbed about having to park at a garage and walk to a Downtown hotel. Once she started interacting with people, it was unclear what the new people in her life would end up being to her. Did they have ulterior motives? Could they help her further her ambition with her event planning business? Would one end up as a romantic partner? Even as I kept reading, I had questions about what this book actually was. Was it a romance? Was it chick lit? We also saw peripheral people in the heroine's present life, like her bestie and her bestie’s husband as well as the heroine's ex. For a novella, I thought that the book went in too many directions, and none of them well. The author didn’t tie it all together cohesively. I think the author needed to focus more on the heroine and what was most important for her, not all the side stories. Novellas are short, so they should be focused. Also, I thought some scenes were absolutely superfluous, adding nothing to characterization, story, or plot. In the end, I found myself disappointed in this book.

Here we have a collection of romances set in small towns. There are several authors who have made this collection shine. It's Christmas time and the heros and heroines live in different small towns from Texas to New England and places far away. These are people just like in your town or neighborhood. WOW, this anthology was long. I mean, it is an anthology, but still. It honestly felt like it took forever for me to get through, even though it was really only 6 days, haha. Anyways, I loved that there were multiple types of romances in this anthology instead of them all being the same. I love a good second chance romance, but I have to say that the forbidden love one was definitely my favorite.
