The Expert Witness – Marvin Mason

I was given a copy of this short story by the author in order to provide an honest review.

Marvin Mason is an American author who write a lot of urban romance and fiction stories. He has written “The Desire Series”, “The Break” and “The Claim Me” series.

Naya is a lawyer and a good one at that, she has worked hard to get to where she is and prides herself on being able to close deals where others could not.

But Naya is about to come across the toughest case in her career, a claim that even she may not be able to close. Yet if she wants to achieve her dream of making named partner, then close this case she must.

A blast from the past, Perk, complicates things – especially seeing as he is her husband. Naya’s colleagues and employer are keeping secrets. Secrets that are getting people hurt, secrets threatening Naya herself.

With help from an unlikely source Naya does the last thing she thought she would do – she doesn’t close the deal; she helps the other side against her client and against her law firm. Exposing the secrets, they have tried hard to keep hidden.

“The Expert Witness” is a short and flirty story about a young, strong and independent female lawyer and the husband she thought had forgotten about her. I enjoyed how Naya discovered the truth about the case she was trying to close and how her and Perk came together in the end and. The last couple scenes were really enjoyable to read too, seeing everything coming together in a really satisfying way.

I enjoyed this one.

Naya is quite the finisher as an attorney, but her new case is one that hits close to home for her. In the end, Naya ends up on the right side of the law. I think this was a pretty good book and easy to read. The prologue drew me in for sure and I wanted to know who the, “expert” was. Throughout the book my heart was aching for the families and Perk’s character. I was hoping Naya and Perk would have rekindled their love but I think they ended where they were destined and got closure. This was a pretty good representation of how big corporations are able to get away with so many things and are not held accountable. Ugh, I was waiting for Naya to get her chance to stick it to her old employer and the big corporation but she didn’t have to—they still lost.

This was my first book by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. I enjoyed it so much I stayed up all night last night just to finish it. The story was well written and drew me in from the prologue and made me want to keep turning the page to find out what happened next. My only minor complaint is I felt the book should have included timeframe transitions to help with context as that timeframe change was a little confusing for me at times with how the story jumped and I would have liked to see what happened with Naya and her former employer as a transition into the epilogue. But overall I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery.

Definitely with the read

This was a well written book. Loved how it gave you a look into the past and present. It had me intrigued from the very beginning. The suspense had me on edge wondering what would happen next. It made me a little emotional when perk died knowing situtions like this happens in real life and the families are left to suffer at the hands of huge cooperations. 😢😢

This was an enjoyable story. I think it flowed well and the author did a good job of capturing a bit of suspense, flirting, and realism. The characters were interesting and I was invested in their outcomes.
