I received an ARC of this book from the author, TracI Wooden-Carlisle, via Bookfunnel and this is my voluntary and honest review. I enjoyed reading this beautiful love story of Andrew and Pietra. They both fell in love at first sight but became best friends and were afraid to move out of the friendship zone to declare their love for each other for eight years during their internships at the same hospital. Andrew was a Neurosurgeon and Pietra was an Anthesiologist. Andrew was expected to become t ...more

Taking Chances is an inspiring, friends to lovers, romance. Andrew and Pietra soon seemed like old friends to me. I was captivated by their story and just kept reading (instead of doing chores!) Fear of lost or awkward friendship kept their lines of communication blocked. Andrew faced some huge choices as he looked for a way to integrate his tribal medical practices with modern day medicine. I really enjoyed their journey to an HEA!

Faith and family are so evident in this book. Andrew and Pietra were so precious. Both so dedicated. Both so close to family. Meagan was a very integral character to this book as well. She was best friend to Andrew and Pietra.

Our life circumstances determine outcomes. Pietra’s virus when she was younger definitely made her much stronger and walk in faith. Andrew’s close relationship to his family and tribe affected his walk.

This is a beautiful story.

I was hoping when reading the first book that these characters would have the next one and here it is! I really liked these best friends and the tension that follows in this fbook. I loved learning about the Native American ways mixed with Christianity. It was a really enjoyable read, and I also liked seeing the characters from the first book quite a bit.

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This is a well written , clean Christian romance between long time friends Andrew and Pietra. They've had romantic feelings for each other for years but neither moved on it ,afraid it would destroy their friendship. It's a beautiful story of friendship and love ,moves fluidly with detailed and descriptive scenes and is a sweet romance.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

Sweet story of love, friendship, and family (with Traci’s signature humor)! Enjoyed it.

Taking Chances finds 2 people with a strong friendship for many years but wanting more. They both have reasons to stay in the friend zone until one decides to take the risk to ask for more. Ms. Carlisle gives us a beautiful story of faith, internal conflict, and resilience. I appreciate how Ms. Carlisle showed Andrew trying to live in 2 worlds and the respect she showed to his heritage and his reluctance to bring Pietra into it. I am looking forward to the next book in this series. I received th ...more

This book reads really quickly. I couldn’t believe it when I sat down and was halfway through it before it seemed like I’d even begun. I immediately fell in love with Pietra and Andrew.

Pietra. What a unique name. I have never heard of it before and was a bit unsure how to pronounce it in my mind until I came up with one I liked. Pietra has had several health challenges in her life. Then she loses her mother to a major health issue. I can only imagine it is through this that she decides to go in

I really enjoyed this story and was captured by how well the characters felt like my friends. I love stories about best friends who fall in love and this one in particular really grabbed my attention. It made me laugh when Pietra and Andrew both had feelings for each other but kept it a secret. We sometimes don’t want to tell someone how we feel for fear of rejection. I couldn’t wait to see where the author would take this story.

I enjoyed the setting of a hospital and learning different ways to

If you enjoy a clean, Christian romance, Taking Chances is just the book for you. Traci Wooden-Carlisle developed characters of faith who realistically struggled with life circumstances. An atypical circle of three best friends is formed by two gals and a guy. Andrew, Pietra, and Meghan have a close and platonic friendship, except that Andrew and Pietra hide their feelings for each other. As medical student residents, their busy lives find them crossing paths often. When another doctor shows int ...more

Life can throw us many changes and chances, some that have been
right before our eyes for a long while. Taking Chances by Traci Wooden-
Carlisle is a book that does just that!

Andrew Wolfe and Pietra Rivera have been friends for many years. Andrew
knew at first sight that he liked Petra, but he kept his feelings hidden for
many years. They are both in the medical field, something Andrew has
aspired to do since he was a young lad. Andrew is also Native American
and is expected to work with his tribe.

Taking chance by Traci Wooden-Carlisle was a great example of its title; It is a book about taking chances. It is the second book in the Chances Series, but it can be read as a standalone. This is my first time reading a book by Traci Wooden-Carlisle and I loved her writing style, it is conversational and built with good detail.
Andrew and Pietra (Which is a cool name, but I had to look up how to say it!) is a classic unrequired love/friends to lovers’ type storyline that was engaging, heartfel

One day you may turn around to find that your choice has walked away. - Andrew’s mom

Do you believe in miracles? Pietra is a walking miracle - a young lady that really should not have survived her experience with meningococcal and an extended coma! She not only has survived, but also has thrived becoming the first doctor in her family. Her faith has been her strength all along.

Best friends since that first week of college, Pietra, Meagen and Andrew love to hang out together when time allows. With

"Taking Chances" by Traci Wooden-Carlisle is book two of the series. I think the book could be read as a standalone but like always I recommend reading the series in order. After saying that, I don't think I read the first book and if I did I don't remember the story but I will be reading it as soon as I finish this review. I really have enjoyed all of Traci Wooden-Carlisle's books that I have read. This book talks about Native American ways and Christianity. It is a fun and a fast read. If you ...more

This is the first book that I have read by this author - and it will NOT be my last. What a fun, sweet, amazing story. Oh how I love the story of Andrew and Pietra. They go through the same medical program - Andrew was a Neurosurgeon and Pietra was an Anthesiologist. They become friends - but they both don't tell the other that they are attracted to each other. This was a really good friends to more book. Andrew and Pietra are a love at first sight kind of couple, except neither is ready for that. Both of them have plans, goals, and family support/pushing. I liked that they had their futures planned, but it also made for some awkward moments since they were in love with each other.

I always like the friendzone books because it's hard for anyone to come out of it and them to make a relationship because what if you lose your friend and it doesn't work out

Andrew, Pietra and Meagan had been the best of friends for over 8 years. Finally, Pietra was determined to tell Andrew that her feelings for him were more than friendly. She had kept her secret for the past eight years. Was it worth the risk to their friendship? Would Andrew feel the same or would their friendship be destroyed? They had gone through college, medical school and were finally in their residency.

Andrew had secrets of his own that he was nervous to share with Pietra. When Pietra tol

Andrew, Pietra, and Meagan were a sweet trio of best friends, and I enjoyed reading about them and how they spent time together and had each other’s backs. I was amazed that the attraction between Andrew and Pietra went on for eight years with neither of them letting on how they felt. Thankfully, Meagan gave them the push they needed, and the book ended with all the warm fuzzies that I look for and delight in. The characters were interesting and likable, and I was particularly pleased with how i ...more

Taking Chances is the second installment from Traci Wooden-Carlisle’s The Chances series. Even though it is part of a series, I believe it can be read as a stand alone. I really like this sweet and inspiring story of love. I have to admit it is predictable but still so very good. I loved the chemistry between Pietra and Andrew. It was entertaining getting to know them. It was delightful watching them interact with one another. There is an additional faith element that was a bonus for me, as well ...more

It was an interesting story of Pieta, Meagan, and Andrew who have been friends since college at Virginia State. Meagan is now engaged and Pieta and Andrew are doctors working long hours.

I enjoyed how this book showed Pieta's faith and belief in miracles and how her past led her to wanting to be a doctor. Her past had also sheltered her and made her shy.

I enjoyed reading about Andrew's decisions he needed to make with his future and how those plans may affect his friendship with Pieta if he con

I thoroughly enjoyed this story! Pietra and Andrew are friends and from the tension between them it’s obvious that they have feelings for each other. But Andrew has a secret and feels he can’t tell Pietra about this because he assumes she might reject him because of it.

Then in comes Dr Walker in the mix, who takes an interest in Pietra and after waiting so long for Andrew to be honest about his feelings for her, she grows impatient and decides to date Dr Walker.

The characters in this book seem to come to life. I love their interactions and how the story progresses. Pietra possesses such an incredible spirit. I love how the relationship between her and Andrew grows. The bonds both have with their families shine through the words in this book.

It also illustrates how sometimes it takes patience to get things right. I love how the story concluded. As part of a series, I can not wait to read the next book in this series. My only desire will be to revisit th

This was a good clean Christian romance about 2 people who fell in love at first sight but remained the best of friends for something like 8 years. Pietra was an Anesthesiologist and Andrew was a Neurosurgeon. It was a well-written book but just not what I would normally read.

As a medical person this book was right up my alley! But it can definitely be enjoyed by non medical persons.
Andrew and Pietra love story was absolutely delightful. There have always been a special place in my heart for stories like these; friends to more or never acting on your feelings for someone.
The author painted a beautiful story of enduring love that always find a way.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

Taking Chances by Traci Wooden-Carlisle is a good read focusing on the medical field and different cultural practices within. The focus on healing through God, the use of prayer and the firm belief exhibited add to this story. There is romance and a hint of mystery. This book is worth the read.

This book was provided through Celebrate Lit and the author for me to read. The opinions expressed are my own thoughts.

Andrew and Pietra learned some valuable lessons in this book. Pietra learned that it's OK to tell someone about hidden feelings for him. Andrew learned a couple things. He learned that it's best not to assume a person is going to react a certain way to your secret. He also learned to live in the moment. God has so much to teach us. Will we take the chance and learn His lessons? Very good! ...more
