Not a traditional erotica novel---This book is meant to spice up your love life!!!! ***Niemma is a quiet chick who only goes to college, loves her parents, and stays to herself. She decided after her finals for the semester that she would go out with her friend, Barbie who is the opposite in every way, shape, and form. Niiema decides to go to the bar before working out, and she meets a man, a LARGE man. The things that happen to her are beyond anything she has ever experienced. Had she known that her whole sex life would be turned upside down, she would have shown up a year before. The question is, can she be a quiet chick on the street and wild chick in the sheets?
I was lucky to have been given an advanced copy of this story in order to provide an honest review.
Wahida Clark is an African American writer who is known for writing urban fiction and has a popular series called the “Thug” series, which I have not read as yet. But I have had the pleasure of reading her amazing fantasy story “Emperors and Assassins”.
Niiema is a young woman college, she’s a good girl, a quiet girl or a quiet chick as some would say. But you know what they say about the quiet chicks – they are the ones to watch out for.
And Niiema is about to discover more about herself and her sexual desires in ways she would never imagine, all thanks to her friend Barbie. Barbie invited Niiema for a night out after finishing up for the semester.
At a swanky club they meet a tall and mysterious tattooed gentleman that goes by the name of D. D is a player, he likes to party hard and play hard. Yet Niiema has him wanting a different life and realizing that you definitely should not mess with the quiet chick. Niiema might be quiet as a mouse, but she’s not such a mouse when it counts.
“Don’t Mess With the Quiet Chick” is a short erotica story that, and I can’t believe I’m actually saying this, gives JR Ward a run for her money. This is definitely a story that is not for the fainty of heart. Though short it is a story that is both magnetic and intense. It is the most explicit story that I have read yet, while one scene was a little woah it was still a good read and I loved the ending for Niiema. I am actually eager to know what come next for Niiema as I feel there is more to her story.
I have to say I am scratching my head a little with this one. It's erotic fiction from the standpoint that its intention is to arouse the reader through sexual situations, acts, and language. Yes. It had a few sexual acts. Yes, it had some obscene language. No, it did not arouse this reader who is well versed in the world of erotic fiction. Unfortunately, it was not erotic. It began with the awkward dialogue and hook up at the club and continued through to the chaotic ending. I think this was a good plot idea that missed the mark when it came to execution due to not taking advantage of the opportunities to properly convey chemistry between the characters, sensuality, lust, and proper delivery of some of the dialogue so that the story came across less disjointed. Most of the interactions left me perplexed and confused. But don't take my word for it as I may be in the minority :), please get your copy and support the author by leaving a review. Barbie & her best friend Niiema are at a club to blow off steam after finals. They lock eyes with “D”, a tall, tattooed, very hot specimen of a man. D invites them back to his place and adult playtime ensues! I won’t give any spoilers but a big twist in this book involving a surprise personality trait was INSANE and I LOVED it!! I didn’t see that character arc coming! Important Notes: Don’t read this book if you aren’t looking for smutstuff b/c this is a bucket of delightful smutstuff. Don’t read this book if you aren’t cool with hetero activity AND female/female activity. Don’t read this book if recreational substances are triggering. But if you’re OK with all that, this book will make you VERY happy and VERY turned on. Final notes: This book is hard erotica but there’s enthusiastic consent which I loved. One example of consent paired with care was one of the ladies was making a brave attempt at taking something large orally when D stopped her and said “...this ain’t Everest. You don’t have to die trying.” I found that small line to be so sweet. Sometimes it’s the little things that can reflect that hardcore doesn’t mean unsafe. I really liked those kinds of touches.
Review for Don’t Mess With a Quiet Chick - Wahida Clark Publishing, Cyndi Sinclaire & BD Hampton
3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
This story begins with 19-year-old Niiema meeting up with her 19-year-old friend, Barbi, at a club, after a last minute invitation to go out for drinks. Maybe it’s because I’m an Aussie, but when guys are shooting pool just inside the entrance, that suggests it’s more like a pub, than a club to me.
While there, a big tattooed guy near the pool table catches Niiema’s eye. But as she’s shy, her friend, Barbi, takes the initiative to call him over. Derek (Big D) doesn’t hesitate.
Things escalate pretty quickly, and what follows is a night and weekend filled with heavy drug use, and filthy sex, so if those are not your thing, I don’t recommend you read this book. It begins a little slow with cringe-worthy words like lady parts, melting pot, soft spot, and reference to a wetted mound. But the language does get better (or more vulgar if you prefer that term – to me, it’s nothing).
Niiema is portrayed as a quiet ‘church mouse’ with strict parents. Barbi is portrayed as a brazen, foul-mouthed sl*t who has been with both women, and men. Because Niiema has strict parents, she’s never done any sort of drug, although she was curious about sex, just like any other teenager on the planet, in high school.
“Most of the boys in high school came and she never felt a thing, other than them groping like wild boars rooting through a briar patch. All sniffing and eating with no real course of action.”
I could identify with this explanation, and I did have a bit of a giggle.
On the way to D’s place, joints are smoked in the car. Things begin to heat up in the car on the way to D’s, and just continues to get wilder during the course of the weekend between the three of them, with further drug use (which escalates to include some of what I’d call hard-core drugs like ecstasy, coke etc.), as well as a couple of D’s friends who were invited over to deal with Barbi because D has his sights set on Niiema.
**SPOILER ALERT**
Barbi displays her true colors to her so-called friend, Niiema. By the end of the weekend, their friendship is over. For a ‘church mouse’ being raised in a strict household, it’s my opinion that Niiema is quite the little sl*t, too, although not to the degree Barbi is. Barbi is the absolute definition of it.
I have a couple of issues with this story. Apart from some editing issues (punctuation), and some missing, and misspelled words, there was one instance where I think the wrong name was used. “What now?” Barbie hissed. Pretty sure it was supposed to be Niiema speaking at this point. I won’t describe what they were doing. Not in a review.
Another issue I had was Niiema ‘forgetting’ her bra. Women don’t ‘forget’ their bra. You either wear one, or you don’t. And if you don’t, you KNOW that is going to be obvious to other people. D comes straight out and admits he’s a drug dealer. Now, I don’t know about you, but I don’t think drug dealers come straight out with that to explain how they make a living. I’m pretty sure that fact would be held close to their chest.
Another point that irked me was the following morning, while D’s cooking breakfast, he suggests Niiema takes a shower before they go out for some shopping (drugs and sex toys, as it turns out). Then, a little further in, Niiema asks if she can take a shower. To me, that was a bit of a slip-up considering D had already suggested it.
There are a couple of scene separations in the story, but they are not indicated with anything – just a blank line that looks like a double space. But that’s just me nitpicking.
In all, this is a short, steamy read – it can be read in one sitting. It does get very explicit with description, so, again, if this isn’t your type of thing, I suggest you give this one a miss. Or you could learn a few things … just sayin’.
I received this book from BD Hampton in return for my honest review.
Niiema was raised by church going parents. But that didn't stop her curiosity growing up like other females. Now is college she's met a friend by the name of Barbie who is as reckless as they come. Niiema finds out just how reckless when they decide to met up one day and go out. They take us on a wild adventure that keeps you entertained. #sffortheculture #teamwcp
I don’t even know where to begin. This story was a roller coaster ride of craziness from start to finish, and I loved every moment. I’ve never read anything like this, but I can’t wait for more from this author! The characters were all so believable and I just loved the back and forth between Niiema and D. But Barbie was the wild card that took the crazy up to the most ratchet levels. This was simply fantastic. Very very very well done!
Well this was far different from all the Wahida Clark books I’ve read. Not sure it’s one I could get use to and I’m kind of disappointed I spent money on it. I only gave it two stars because it’s Wahida but honestly the book was only worth 1 star if that 🤷🏽♀️
That was A LOT of sex! Some were good, sexy and interesting. Some were just a little too rough for me. Definitely not my normal read. Very interesting, to say the least. If you like the choking and name calling, you will definitely like this book.
