This is a useful book both for classroom elementary school teachers and teacher educators like me. The most useful aspects are the clear layout of the writing process accompanied by pictures. The author also includes scripts which don't enthrall me. They are useful to a point, but teaching should be an interaction and all classes are different.

The books suggested to use with students in order to support teaching points are very useful. In fact I requested several through my library, found a few on Paperback Swap, and bought one. The author makes the point that teachers can use other texts that support the teaching points. There are also great resource texts that I plan to check out.

Overall this is a useful tool for teachers and teacher educators using writing workshop as well as those who want ideas for encouraging classroom writing.

Ordered through Scholastic, this book is written by a teacher obviously well schooled in Atwell, Calkins and Anderson methodologies. Extremely teacher friendly with many colorful photographs of students and classroom, Leograndis attempts to guide the reader on a day by day snapshot of her writing (and even sometimes her reading) workshop in the beginning days of the school year. Not much is learned if the reader is well-versed in the above mentioned writing gurus, but the book is certainly a wonderful reference for the novice teacher. The book should be touted as, "Everything you need to know about the opening weeks of writing workshop from the best bits of Atwell, Calkins and Anderson."

I actually know the author and everything she shares in this book she has and still uses with her own students. While there are many different Writing Workshop guides out there I like how this one has actual pictures. As a very visual learner, these are quite helpful. As Denise would even say in person, this book is only meant to get you started and should be just one tool in your Writing Workshop tool chest.

This book has great ideas for mini-lessons. I like the pictures of the classroom and how the posters are arranged. This can help remind students about the process, procedures, and other writing helps.

The pictures and the resources in the appendix are wonderful! I'm just not sure how likely it is that everyone would be able to follow the launch exactly as she has planned it.
