Synopsis: Peytra Sike’s is a gifted carver that works in the shadows of her father’s shop. After the Duke, Jors Ameros, stumbles upon her work, she is offered a job at his castle as his sculptor. I loved this book!!! It was an incredible retelling of a fairy tale. The characters were carefully thought out, and I fell in love with Peytra and Jors, and their beautiful relationship. I want more!! It ended on a cliffhanger, but I loved it. I can’t wait for book two.

Mask of the Nobleman is at first glance a retelling of a classic "beauty and the beast" type story, yet as the story unfolds, it reveals itself to be so much more. Diaz's sumptuous, velvety prose draws the reader into its pages, subverting expectations along the way.

The characters are every bit as engaging as they are relatable, and this fantasy tale makes them come alive. The romance is a slow buildup, but in return, we get a true romantic connection born out of much more than mere lust.

It's been a long time since I read something so flawed, that I love so much.

Every book has flaws. Every single one. Some more than others. Some hide their flaws so well, most readers never notice them. Others wave at you from page one. I just finished the Mask of the Nobleman, and I am in shock. A good kind of shock. That ending was so much better than I expected. And so, I sit with a silly grin, the flaws mostly forgotten, trying to understand what just happened, and wondering when I’ll get to

This author is a diamond in the rough of indie publishing. The prose is elegant, it reads the way a classic should that focuses on fairytale romances. The ending makes me nervous for its sequel but if nothing else, the details Laura mentions about carving, and how it affects the main character, are worth the read. I’ll mention more about this at the end of my review. First: the love interests.

If this book was a duology, or even a trilogy about how Peytra and Jors come to be, I would read it. I

Great beginning but couldn't stick the landing

I received a free physical copy of the book in exchange for an honest review, but that has not changed my opinion about the book at all. Just wanted to give a heads-up.

Before reading the book, I briefly looked at the Wikipedia page of the fairytale on which this book is inspired, East of the Sun, West of the Moon. It was new to me. I was looking forward to see where the author took it since it was a bit different from the classic Beauty and the Beast

I was a huge fan of the author's short story work, so I was thrilled when she gave me a copy of this book for review. Although admittedly, it's a much different style from her previous work.

While I'm not the biggest fan of most Beauty and the Beast retellings, the East of the Sun, West of the Moon adaptation is a personal favorite. And this story does the original justice, while improving on some aspects. For example, Peytra goes with the Duke for a position she earned with her own skill, as op

WARNING! You will not put this book down...

I may have binge read this book in 2 nights... I also may have not slept much in the quest to get to the end and find out Jors' secret...

Honestly, Laura writes incredibly well - I was hooked from the first page and really enjoyed it.

I have to say, I didn't know where the fantasy element was originally, but then as you learn more about what happened to Jors and about his Mother you do believe that there is so much more to the story than what you're be

Talented, independent Peytra Sike is itching for the opportunity to prove herself as a serious sculptor, and her chance comes when the masked duke, Jors Ameros, commissions her to carve the mantels in his castle. Peytra accepts the commission and joins the duke on his estate, where she befriends his kind and bubbly waitstaff and sets to work on her job. Little does she know, while she's there, she just might learn the mystery behind the duke's masked appearance...and she may also lose her heart. ...more

Can't wait for the next installment!

The Mask of the Nobleman is a world that grips you right at the moment you set your eyes on the page. You explore the world and the mysterious Duke through the eyes of Peytra, an outlander in appearance and temperament. Her kind heart, attitude, and amazing talent are so easy to fall in love with and root for. The surrounding characters are just as lovable (that Baroness!) and I especially vibed with Laura's ability to breathe life into topics such as art and

This was one of the most enjoyable books I have read in a while. It's a book that is fun and doesn't claim to be anything else. The characters are all well thought out and easy to point out and work well, with the other and with in the story.

It also gives you just enough brief mentions of other things going on to make you wonder about the large world but not enough to take away from the main story. As well giving just the smallest threads here and there of more to come.

A gentle, sexy and alluring gothic romance

De Arce crafts an intriguing and delightful read by combining several genres into this evening page-turner. Part Gothic tale, part romance, part fantasy, Mask of the Nobleman is a fun and well-written story that reads like the greatest lost Victorian tales. The book is rife with poetic intimacy, fantastic characters and love interests that feel believable and thoughtful. I personally adored the fantasy elements that were weaved in throughout, and I can'
