Love in Chaos #1

All or Nothing

Rate this book
BEN
Seven days to find myself a wife, or my best friend gets my company.
All because of a stupid, drunken bet.
Charming a woman into marrying me should be easy.
And it would’ve been,
if Jake wasn’t doing everything in his power to sabotage me,
like stranding me on a boat full of horny pensioners—including our moms.
But Jake’s little sister, Liv, tagged along.
Under any other circumstance, I’d never go there.
But If he’s going to play dirty,
then so am I.

LIV
I haven’t seen Ben since I was fifteen years old.
Until last night, when he tried picking me up in a bar.
He had no idea who I was then, but he certainly knows now.
Second chances don’t come around often,
but I don’t think I’m supposed to take this one.
He’s my brother’s best friend, and he’s off-limits.
No matter how much I want to go there.

While this book contains plenty of laughs, fun and banter, it also touches on a heavy subject matter that some readers may struggle with. Please contact me directly for further clarification.

Some things simply cannot be predicted or planed. And sometimes the greatest mistakes, made out of sheer stupidity can lead to the most precious, most beautiful gift that the life has to offer.

One drunken bet…stupidity and cockiness on its highest. The end result all or nothing. The morning brings freshness and the terrible realization to Ben, our sleazy, rich playboy who has no way out…The clock is ticking and the chances of success and turning the situation over are becoming smaller and smaller…and the price to be paid too high. All his efforts, all his hard work will vanish in one moment of complete insensibility. And the past comes with all its dark beauty, with every secret and ambiguity. The reason is lost, the hearts are revived, and there is the hope. That beautiful girl, his friend’s pesky, little sister turned into a real beauty now is here. And she can be his salvation or his total destruction…

I really liked the fact that the storyline was definitely different from any other books I have read recently. But somehow the whole story didn’t manage to captivate me as I expected. It felt fairly dubious and far-fetched at moments. The beginning was seemed really compelling, whereas the end felt too rushed. The characters were decently developed and portrayed, but no matter what, I couldn’t relate to them, and feel the story on a deeper level. Ben was rather contradictory as a person – on the one side he is portrayed as a very ambitious, successful young man who manages to save his family’s business and expand it, but his actions are rather gullible and not characteristic for such a person. We are given an image of him as an arrogant player, but as I turn the pages, I experience him as a beggar who cannot find a girl, willing to marry him. Somehow it makes no sense, and the whole situation leans towards ridiculous. Liv's character is somehow more credible, her actions point to a typical teenager, a rebel who knows how far she can push, what is allowed. His mother is a character who really amazed me with her appearance, uniqueness and strength as a character.

What should definitely be praised is the excellent connection and chemistry between the two main characters. Their relationship, as well as interesting situations are perfectly presented so that they can keep the reader's attention. The author skillfully intertwines more serious topics, such as teenagers molestation or shattered family relationship, mixing the past in the whole situation, also contribute to the whole.

Overall, I have to be completely honest, this title that comes from this author's pen attracted me at the very beginning, and my expectations were really high, but the book simply couldn’t live up to my expectations. Not a bad choice, and definitely not as gripping as Missy’s previous works, but still an OK read.

All or Nothing was a well-written romance. It was paced well and engaging. Family angst, misunderstanding, sexy times, makes the story more interesting which what made it impossible for me to put down. The main characters were sweet and good people that you can’t help but root for. I enjoyed following Ben and Liv's journey and seeing how everything plays out. If you like romance with delightful characters, you need to grab this book. You will NOT be disappointed.

Honest ARC review

I've read a few books by this author before, and this one was along the same lines. Very humorous moments, but with a new, deeply emotional vein. I wouldn't exactly give it a trigger warning, but it does touch on a sensitive subject. It was certainly a new take on "brother's best friend". Both of the main characters were likeable, even if one was a bit foolish at times. It earned a solid 4 stars from me

Oh my god. I absolutely adored this story!

I loved Ben and Liv's characters. How they interacted together, their world and their background. I wanted to reach through my screen and punch Jake (Liv's brother) at several points during the story.

A white lie that Liv told when she was 15 led to her being shipped off to Australia to live with her father. Five years later and Liv is back in New York.

I loved the mix of romance, comedy and Missy's ability to deal with events that Liv experienced as a teenager in a sensitive and empowering way. The characters grew as the book progressed and I want more!

I cannot wait to read this again and hope that Missy writes more books in this style.

Would recommend!

Great start to a new series! The author brings strong characters and weaves a fast paced , entertaining romance. She pulled me in with the interesting story line and describes both her characters and scenes in vivid detail. I had quite a few laugh out loud moments with the fun banter and happenings even as she adds in secrets and suspense along the way. I was hooked from start to finish and would recommend this book.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

All of Nothing is the first book in the Love in Chaos series by Missy Johnson. This well written, fast-paced romance story has great characters, plenty of laughs, witty banter, secrets, a lie, revenge, suspense, angst, rumors, and of course, a happily ever after.

I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.

This was a fairly quick, easy, fun read.

"I can't concentrate because of how intoxicating you are right now."

In a moment of drunken madness, Ben Tyler makes a bet with one of his best friends, Jake. In the morning, he realises that he could lose everything he's worked for, and also that Jake has never had his best interests at heart. Fate keeps intervening in the form of Liv, Jake's younger sister, and a sizzling attraction that could lead to something more. A secret from the past could be the key to everything.

"She calls to me like no one else."

This was a fun, humorous, and slightly angsty read. Ben is SUCH a great guy. I admired his work ethic and his love for his family. His goodness shone brightly throughout the story. Liv is a young woman still trying to come to terms with her past, made difficult by how her family handled things. She and Ben had fantastic chemistry. Their budding romance was pure feel-good!

I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for a new Missy Johnson book! I fell in love with her style of writing with the ‘Awkward Love’ series . ( Seriously go check them out!)

Onto my review of All of Nothing. I got an ARC which I was stoked about.

The male protagonist, Ben is .. well the first chapter didn’t endear me to him. He came across as a sleazy rich playboy. Thankfully his character improves as the chapters continue. It is so hard rooting for a couple when you can’t stand one or the other. Ben ends up being a genuine sweet and sexy guy, falling for Olivia whilst scrambling to win a drunken wager with his frenemy Jake.

Throughout the story, Jake is painted as this manipulative cold man but I thought I knew the reasons behind his behaviour and I was right. I’m glad the story clarified all the plot devices. The epilogue showed he had some real growth.

Olivia is the heroine and also Jakes little sister . Central to this narrative is the secret Olivia has kept that has led to characters decisions being entwined with misconceptions and manipulations. It’s shaped who she is and her relationships.

There is chemistry and attraction between Ben and Olivia but this bet Ben has made is foremost in both their minds. I’m glad the bet is laid out bare, it’s a nice change from the usual secret between couples.

By the end of the story, everything has been explained and we get our happily ever after with not much angst.

I enjoyed the story, a nice feel good romance that made me laugh and also get a bit pissed off. ( Jake I’m looking at you! I hope he gets a redemption story, the epilogue thawed me towards him) Missy also threw in characters like the sassy but lonely quasi grandmother Claudia that Ben kinda adopts , and Tara. Olivia best friend who has her back and the kind of best friend I love the heroine to have.

If you’re looking for a low angst romance to read , and honestly there’s times when you just want a romance without the heartbreak, then I recommend this book.

Review by Jen Skewes

This is the first book that I have read by this author and I cannot wait to read more. This is one of my favorite tropes to read. A best friend’s little sister gets me every time. There is just something about a guy falling for his best friend’s younger sister. I cannot explain it but I love it.

After waking up from a drunken night with his friends, Ben finds out that he made a ridiculous bet with his best friend, Jake. If Ben does not find a girl and gets married within the next week this Jake gets his company. Ben has no clue what he is going to do, he just knows that he cannot lose his company. Jake will go through great lengths to win this bet. He manages to throw a curve ball or two Ben’s way to prevent him from winning. But Ben knows how to turn the tables on him. But it includes Jake’s sister Liv.

Live has not been home in 5 years. After telling a little white lie years ago, she was sent to live with her father. But now she is back. Ben has always been the guy that she had a crush on and has been in love with. Now that she is back and Ben has taken notice of how she has changed, could this be her chance with him? She knows about the bet, which means that while things with Ben have been really good, is he into her for the right reasons or to just win a bet?

I loved this book. I loved Ben and it I am being honest wanted to throat punch Jake once or twice. Liv and Ben together were perfect. And you could feel how genuine their feelings were for each other. There were laughs, back and forth banter that I loved, and some emotional moments as well. This was a well written feel-good romance. Loved it.

Received an ARC for an honest review

Watch who you drink with people! You'll get drunk and end up giving your life away.
Ben learned this the hard way, and then was in a rush to fulfill the agreement made.

Ben and Liv knew each other, they grew up together. Ben was friends with Jake who is Liv's brother. Liv is quick on her feet, and her wits. Their banter is great, kind of like old friends picking up where they left off 5 years ago. However age has matured Liv.

Great story, threw me for a minute when I thought Liv was going to help Ben. Their chemistry was fantastic. All in all this was a good easy read.

This is Book 1 in the Love in Chaos Series and my first read by this author, and I must say that I quite enjoyed the storyline and the characters. It is an off limits romance between Liv and her brother's best friend, Ben. These characters are very different but likeable, the connection strong, the chemistry combustible, and the unique plot makes for an enjoyable read. What starts out as a drunken bet turns into something more. It is a captivating story with sizzling attraction and frustrating moments. Overall, it has a healthy dose of sexual tension and chemistry, drama and passion, family dynamic, engaging secondary characters, and a happy ending.

This was a really good read. I liked Ben and could've easily fallen in love with him myself. His loyalty to family and the fact he didn't do anything about Liv's rumours shows the kind and caring person he is. I also liked Liv and the way she stood up at the end for what was right. Some funny moments, and overall a nice story.

This book is definitely a rom-com woth some steam! The interaction between the h and H were so much fun. I loved Claudia, the H's Mom, and would love to read the h's brothers book.(hint). The only reason it's not a 5 star for me because it's a hfn... an epilogue would have made this a for sure 5 star!!

Nothing good could ever come of a drunken bet. Right?? Sit back and get ready to see the good, bad and ugly that comes from just that. All or Nothing is a fast paced story that will keep you turning the pages to see just how the story unfolds among the secrets, lies, revenge, and love. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next book in the Love in Chaos series.

All of Nothing is both fun and flirty and full of heart. Missy Johnson gives us the ultimate in a brother's best friend kind of love story that features a nasty bet and a bit of mayhem as a race for a wife leads to oh so much more.

I enjoyed this story and how the characters of Ben and Liv played a game of cat and mouse as they keep getting thrown together when her brother and his best friend in Jake is trying hardest to keep them apart. All because of one drunken night, Ben is forced to get married within 7 days. Enter Liv as she is now all grown up and never stopped wanting Ben, even when she was a pesky little sister. Talk about complicated situations, this one is wild, with a man-crazy best friend and Ben and Liv's moms added to the mix.

The author's use of a past supposed indiscretion that leads to this crazy situation that Ben is now in was very clever. I was intrigued how it would all play out and Jake's seemingly sudden grudge against his best friend made sense as the story went on. And the chemistry btw Ben and Liv even when they know better than to get involved is undeniable. They really do belong together no matter what may happen with both Ben's company and his delicate situation with Jake.

Although I was happy at the way everything turned out, I felt that the ending was a bit rushed for my tastes. Everything fell into place a bit too easily and maybe I just needed a bit more angst on Jake's part, in particular, since he had been hanging on to his hate of what he thought had happened, for so many years.

But Missy Johnson is a writer who gives her all and is great at combining sharp wit with touching moments that pull at the heartstrings.

I look forward to reading more of her work and in the meantime give All of Nothing a solid 3.5 stars!

A lie, a bet, and a happy ending!!!

All or Nothing by Missy johnson is a romance with a small age gap. It's the first book from the brand new series Love in Chaos.

This one is about Ben Tyler and Liv Thatcher. One of her lies, when she was fifteen, changed the lives of many people. She was sent
to Australia and the friendship between her brother Jake and Ben was ruined. Five years later her brother still tried to cause damage
to Ben. He tricked him into betting his own company while drunk, that left him with only seven days to find a woman to marry him or
he was going to lose his family legacy. Liv returned to New York to attend college and have a closure with her past. Fate brought them
together again and this time she wasn't the only one with a crush. The bet was like a dark cloud to their newfound relationship but with
the help of a few friends, they made it work.

It is a well-written book with a dual pov. The plot is unique and very interesting. The romance is quick-paced but the characters have such great chemistry. It's quite angsty at times and comedic. The author managed to keep the romance and the suspense leveled which made the book far more enjoyable. Liv and Ben were nice characters but my favorites were Tara and Claudia by far.

In general, I liked the story a lot and I can't wait to see what happens to Jake. I will rate it with 4 stars.

Missy Johnson's debut novel for her new series, Love in Chaos, is a hilarious romantic comedy with so much heart and wonderful characters. When Ben wakes up with a horrible hangover after a night of partying, he finds out he made a bet with his best friend: he has to find a wife in the next seven days, or his company - a family legacy - will be turned over to Jake. From there, things snowball as Jake puts up obstacle after obstacle to keep Ben from finding an woman to make his bride. Enter Liv - who just happens to be Jake's sister. Having returned from living with her father in Australia since a string of rumours drove her from home, the meet-cute between adult-Liv and Ben is ridiculously funny. And once she finds out about the bet...

The chemistry between Liv and Ben is scorching. And not only is the relationship that grows between them entertaining, but it is healing. Both have some difficult family relationships, and through the book Ben and Liv have the opportunity to grow and deal with a lot of baggage from stuff that happened to them when they were kids. Missy Johnson takes the reader on a wonderful journey with these two characters, and it is impossible not to fall in love with them even as they fall in love with one another.

This is the 1st in a new series and is Ben and Liv’s story. After a drunken bet with his best friend Jack, Ben is left to find a wife, or he loses his company to his frenemy. Liv is Jack’s little sister and has recently retuned to town, and when she is in bar Ben starts to chat her up having no clue who she is. Liv has kept a secret hidden which has shaped her into becoming the person she is and with her relationships. I must admit I was not too keen on Jack and his attitude did not do him any favours, but thankfully he did manage to redeem himself as the story continued. This is a well written story which has witty banter, fun, secrets, betrayal, and is a humorous and entertaining poignant love story. I was captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend for all. This story does touch on a sensitive topic, which this author covers with compassion and sensitivity, so be aware there will be triggers for some readers!

This was a fun, fast paced contemporary romance with a slight issue in the past that affected both our main characters in different ways. I wouldn't say it's a trigger warning but it's something that can definitely affect a person.

I loved both Ben and Liv. Ben was driven and hard working. Liv was a sweetheart just finding her way. Her mom let her down when she needed her the most so their relationship wasn't the greatest. These two may have tried to fight their attraction but there was no stopping it. I loved that they finally gave in to it.

I really enjoyed this read. Like I said above it was fast paced and fun to read. I really had a hard time putting it down. I just wanted to keep reading and see what happened next. In the end I wasn't disappointed.
