It wasn’t my plan to be noticed. I’d spent almost two years of my life being invisible. But one night changed it all.
I saw too much. I didn’t see enough. I can’t outrun him. He will catch me. I can’t hide from him. He will find me. I can’t disappear. He is always watching.
He tells me he is waiting to decide what to do with me. Does he even care that he holds so much power over me? My life is in his hands and as I wait, the pull towards him…scares me.
Raphe
She thinks she didn’t see enough. She sees too much. She thinks she can run. She can’t run from me. She thinks I will forget. I never forget. She thinks she’s invisible. She is all I see.
What started out as a simple job, will become the biggest fight that I’ve ever faced.
*This is book 2 of the Denver Series, however it can still be read as a standalone. You do not need to have read Her Greatest Mistake first, although some readers may prefer to.*

The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 💋💋💋💋💋 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 👏👏👏👏👏 World building: 🌎🌏🌍🌎🌏 Character development: 🤓🥸😎😤😳
The setting: Denver, Colorado
The Hero: Raphael Laska – Assassin for hire for the Mob. His nickname is the Wraith and he is very good at his job.
The heroine: Devon Lancaster – twenty six year old homeless woman. She lives in the alley behind a bistro. An older drunk named Jimmy who also lives in the alley lets her stay there and sort of watches out for her. Devon doesn’t drink or do drugs and though she has been on the street for two years has not resorted to selling her body.
The Love Story: Raphe is an emotionless killer and he is bored. That is why he doesn’t immediately kill Devon after she witnesses a hit in her alley. He finds her a puzzle and he enjoys puzzles. He wants to know what she is running from and why she was living on the streets. However, he plans to eventually kill her since she is a witness and saw more than she thinks she saw. But as the days go buy he finds himself attracted to her.
I like this type of story. The Hero (or anti-hero) is definitely a bad man and he is obsessed with the heroine but doesn’t know why and actually doesn’t realize that he is. He can’t seem to get her out of his mind but continually tells himself that he doesn’t care and that he will just get rid of her soon (in the permanent sense). However, he never does and becomes more obsessed and more attracted to her as the story goes on.
The heroine, Devon is definitely strong, since she lived on the streets of Denver for two years. She is smart and never stops fighting for herself. I also really like that Raphe is not just a hitman, but also very smart. He works for a guy named Malcolm but also takes jobs from the other mafia heads and when things get a bit touchy between the families, he turns into a brilliant strategist and basically acts as a go between as well as an advisor to the leaders of each of the families.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.
Kept me up all night which I haven’t been able to do so in a while.
Raphe and Devon had good chemistry and I enjoyed their interactions together.
The ✨TENSION✨between those two was amazing.
Let me tell you when I first met Raphe I couldn’t breathe, I was squealing in bed at 2am by myself because everything that man did from start to finish made me feel some type of way.
The storyline was also really interesting and it was never boring, it had me invested in the story and the characters.
I loved Devon’s character and to be honest I loved when she would just run away and not listen to Raphe.
I WANTED HIM TO CHASE HER EVERYWHERE OKEY!!!
Anyway this was a great read and I enjoyed not sleeping for it!!!
I really liked the slowburn enemies to lovers dynamic, loved Devon who didn't submit to Rafe and how she always tried to escape from him even tho she could've been smarter about that lol. What i didn't like was that the second half didn't have much development, the plot was heavely focused on the mafia part and the romance took a backseat. Also why the need for Rafe to fuck another girl in the last 60% like whyy?? I get that they were not in relationship and he still didn't show much interest in Devon but I hate when this happens and he had so much potential. Also he didn't even show some feelings for Devon which was annoying so i never got the impression that he was in love with her. The ending was so rushed and wrapped in the last 5% which i didn't like. But i liked their banter and the first part was so good tho so that's the only reason why i didn't dnf.
Her head snapped back to mine in surprise. “Make up your mind,” she muttered. “One minute you’re going to kill me, or fuck me, now you want to be my friend? What next? You going to offer to brush my hair?” “I’ll still kill you. I was never going to fuck you, and I already cut your hair.” I winked at her
likable characters, what a surprise. overall good, well written, but didnt really get me invested / sucked in
"Beautifully Broken" is the second part of the "Denver" series by the author Eve L. Michelle. Told in dual perspectives , get ready to meet Devon and Raphael.
The story was good to me. I mean , it wasn't like I was going to remember it forever and ever but it was a nice one time read for me. The characters were decent however the starting of the book confused me a bit but once things got smoothen out , I was hooked!
Raphael is a very famous assassin. He is famous for his skills and is highly sought after. Devon is a homeless woman who lives behind the street with a old man names Jimmy who lets her crash with him once in while. Their story starts when Devin witnesses a bit that was not meant to be seen by anyone. Raphael could not let any witnesses live but got trapped by the beautiful homeless woman. However , he did not admit that easily and was very careful in giving away his feelings. He always planned to kill Devon but soon found himself warming up to her.
The story pace was a bit slow in the starting but then like I said before , once Raphael arrived in the picture , things got interesting. A definite recommendation to all the dark Romance lovers out there!!
⚠️ Safety Squad: Mürder & VioIėnce (Not Graphic), Past SėxuaI Assåült (Not by H)
📣 Type: Beautifully Broken is part of the Denver series, but can be read as a standalone. However, these books will be best enjoyed when read in order.
🛑 Be Advised: My Goodreads shelves are … explicit in both senses. As such, they could be considered spoiler-y.
I am sorry but it felt like a chore to read this. At 26%, I felt as if the story was going in circles. She was trying to run away from him, he wanted to keep her, but why?? At 36% there was nothing interesting about her. She felt like a nuisance. I usually love mob hero/homeless heroine stories, but this was just meh. If the author was going for slow-burn, great!! But have something interesting happen. There were more scenes with the main characters apart than together.
There is so much dialogue but it just words. There is so much information, but about nothing. Fillers. Yes, it felt like I was reading 90% of fillers and 10% of substance.
The hero thinks the heroine saw him murder someone. They play the game of ‘why did you kidnap me?” “Because I think you saw something.” “But I didn’t, I swear and if I did I won’t tell anyone.” “My boss wants to kill you, but I am not sure if I want to and I want to keep you since you are a mystery to me.”
My thoughts: Huh?? Why??? (Side note: not sure why he wants her alive, she is bland in personality.)
Maybe it is the writing style that I had a problem with connecting.
A girl on the run. The man who solves problems. Raphe & Devon had an incredible chemistry from the very beginning, although they let the fuse burn so slowly before finally being unable to resist. Devon was a strong character, despite being in the process of fleeing. She still wanted to fight her own battles, which was perfect. And Raphe was unwilling to let her get too far away, despite his reservations. A round of applause for this one.
A beautiful love story between a very alpha male and a strong badass girl.
Luck skipped Devon in life. Running from a horrible past, she finds herself living on the streets for the past 2 years. She made a little something for her self in a ally. But another unluckey night trows her infrond of Raphe. Now he has his eye on her, and for some reason can't take it of. He wants her, so he will have her. No matter the costs. She will become his. But Devon will not make it easy.
Sigh... I really really wanted to like this book. It had all the tropes and themes I like. A kind hearted, down on her luck homeless girl who is hard working and skittish around the hero. A cold blooded killer hero who is supposed to kill the heroine but is in denial of his own feelings and doesn't know why he doesn't kill her, but instead pampers her. It SHOULD have been a good read! But alas, this was a huge disappointment. Most of the book, the hero and heroine don't even interact. It's a lot of mafia politics and other characters talking, which was boring as hell.
It took 80% of the book for there to be any sort of chemistry between the hero Raphe and the heroine Devon. Literally. The majority of the book consisted of Raphe being completely apathetic to Devon or acting like a dick to her (which wasn't even in the sexy bullying type). Whenever Raphe questioned why he didn't just kill Devon, I was left wondering the exact same thing. There was absolutely NO chemistry between the two. Devon was, quite frankly, boring as hell. Raphe predicted almost everything she did, and constantly called her stupid (which, sadly, she was). She never got the jump on him or kept him on his toes, which makes me wonder why he kept calling her a mystery that he keeps around to figure out. This boring ass girl ain't the Da Vinci code.
And if Devon was supposed to be entertaining him in a cute, bubble headed airhead way, she unfortunately missed that mark too. Devon was not cute at all. She was just embarrassing. There were so many moments where I actually physically cringed and felt embarrassed because of the way she acted. As for Raphe himself, he was such a shit hero. I understand that he's a cold blooded hitman for hire, so he won't be very emotional. But for like 90% of the book, he did not seem romantically interested or even remotely tempted by Devon. With this type of genre, I feel like readers want a story about the cold blooded killer being unable to help himself and fall to the temptations of the sweet heroine. Instead, most of the book was him smirking at her while verbally slapping her down, while Devon gets jealous of all the women that are falling all over him and dropping their panties. I could not STAND that Devon was so thirsty and obvious about her jealousy while Raphe was such a smug bastard, and yet there was hardly anything that got Raphe jealous or possessive over Devon. How was this a romantic fantasy exactly? Who are we supposed to be relating to here? Don't get me started on when Raphe slept with a waitress really far into the story (this being when he started realizing he likes Devon). Wtf??? And Devon sees the fingernail marks on his back and is WAY too obvious about her jealousy. I got second hand embarrassment for her 🤦. Giiirl you are WAY too desperate. And Raphe's reaction? Being smug and pointing out she's jealous. Then in his pov, he's like, "oh, I didn't realize she left fingernail markings on my back, I didn't want Devon to see and realize I had sex." Fucking wat.
So shit really hits the fan at the end, when the big reveal is that Devon had a mc ex named Tats (yes I died a little inside after hearing that name), and that she slept with the day she met him. Like ???? WHAT IS GOING ON? Raphe's reaction was kind of my reaction. Like, wtf that's so out of character. Why did she spend 90% of the book acting like a coy prude who can't even view Raphe's privates without blushing and looking away if she had this wild side. Plus, Raphe didn't even seem to react all that jealously about it. WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THIS REVEAL. Last peeve of mine was how Raphe was initially described by Devon as normal and plain looking. Which makes perfect sense for a contract killer who doesn't want to stand out. I actually really appreciated how refreshing that was that the heroine found a hero that was actually just average looking, but he would woo her with his sexy behavior and their chemistry. In fact, Devon instead described Levi, the chef at the restaurant she was living in the back alley of, as being a hot Adonis she was crushing on. But unfortunately, the book had to go the cliche route and have a ton of women falling all over Raphe, and then his description became him looking like a male God. I was like, what happened here? How can he be a hitman if he stands out that much? WHY ARE ALL THE WOMEN THROWING THEMSELVES AT A MEDIOCRE LOOKING ASSHOLE.
Safety: * Heroine is NOT a virgin, had one night stand with a MC guy named tats (lol). * Hero is NOT a virgin, has lots of sex with women for the sake of his missions (lol). * Cheating, hero has sex with a waitress "for info" (lol) very late into the novel. Only feels bad about getting caught and not hiding it well enough. * HEA (lol).
I absolutely LOVE Raphe and Devon! This story was so engaging and I couldn't put it down. The story sucked you in and makes you want more of them. Can't wait what Eve will throw at us next!
There is so many things that can be told about this story. To start with it was amazing story. With many secrets and questions. With lots of blood being shed, with lots of abuse being done. Raphe is not a knight in shining armor nor Devon is a damsel in distress. She run and hide for so long, that it was only thing she knew. Not trust anyone. Not say anything. Be invisible. She is strong, she is smart, but around Raphe she loose lots of her instincts. Raphe is smart, great planner and trying to be himself in this dark world. Devon was a mystery he needed to solve, a runner he needed to catch and a woman he wanted to keep. Against all odds. Against logic. Against his habitual behavior. Against his family and people he works for. He was able to save her and himself. Finally they were made for each other, even if they didn’t start in best way. I was not able to put it down. It kept my full attention at all time. It was wonderful.
I don’t know how she does it but Eve’s books just keep getting better and better.
Raphe is an out and out alphahole and one of those you love to hate and then fall in love with. He has a dirty job and he loves it unapologetically. When he comes across Devon something about her piques his interest and he decides to keep her close to discover her secrets.
Devon is not a shy wallflower. She fights Raphe tooth and nail for her freedom and tries to keep her secrets to herself. But Raphe is very persistent and won’t let her go until she gives him everything. What I love about Devon is that she accepts Raphe for who he is and doesn’t try to change him.
I loved this book and can’t wait to read the next one in the series
The beautiful Devon have full of secrets she had a difficult life She run to found a better place to live and in here way she meet Raphe alpha man which has a lot of myster he want protect Devon and also want to now here secret
The dynamics between them was captive and I loved the hot chemistry
Will Raphr be able to get the secrets out of Devon? I highly recommend ♥️
Beautifully Broken is the first book I've read by author Eve L. Mitchell and I must say, it was a great story where two broken souls were able to unite. Devon Lancaster has lived a very hard life that most would never dream about. At age 26, she is running from her past and in order to remain hidden, she lives a homeless life, living in an alley and sleeping on the streets. While that in itself is dangerous, she has the company of fellow homeless man Jimmy looking out for her. After witnessing something she shouldn't have, her life gets completely turned around when she meets Raphe. Raphe is a ruthless and cold-blooded killer, an enforcer and hired hitman known as Wraith, who happens to be very good at his job. When he notices that there was a witness to a hit, instead of immediately eliminating the threat, he finds himself intrigued by her, wanting to solve her like a puzzle. He can't understand why a beautiful smart girl like her would choose to live homeless, so he takes her in (against her will) and so starts the push-pull cat and mouse game between these two. The more time these two spend together, the hotter the chemistry. This was a great story. I loved it and the simplicity of it. Both characters had so many chances to rid each other, but like magnets, they were drawn. Although, now I'm very interested in seeing what develops next.
This was breathtakingly beautiful! I was so intrigued by this story and its characters that I almost read it in one sitting! so good, I need the next book now!
This is the second book in the Denver series and wow what a story....you'll seriously want to shoot Raphael through most of it!!! But he does eventually come round LOL. Its a really intense story and I must admit it kept me on the edge of my seat wondering where it was going to go. Emotional rollercoaster for Devon but she gets her HEA in the end after much effort on the part of Raphael surprisingly. Brilliantly written and highly recommend it
Beautifully Broken is my first Eve L. Mitchell book but it won't be my last. I went into this book completely blind and I was not disappointed.
Devon Lancaster is a homeless woman who lives behind a dumpster at a local bistro. My heart freaking broke for her having to live behind a dumpster. The world is an ugly place and this is a reality for more people than we realize. Devon maybe a character in a book but there is a real Devon out there somewhere. Raphael Laska the hired assassin for the mob. He's dark, dangerous and sexy. Why would these two even cross paths? You guessed it, she witnesses him killing someone in the alley where she lives.
Raphael is bored and basically wants to play with his prey before he kills her. What he doesn't bank on is this undeniable attraction and need for her. She starts out as the puzzle he wants to figure out but quickly becomes so much more than either of them bargained for. I love watching the ruthless killer fall for the sweet girl he never saw coming. It takes a special kind of woman to make the big, bad assassin fall to his knees.
Mitchell delivered this amazing and beautiful story that made me feel all the things. She gave us this amazing plot wrapped in beautiful words. This 5 star book is a must read.
This is a wild ride. Homeless beauty Devon is in the wrong place at the wrong time when she lands in the sights of the mafia's assassin. But it may just save her from the person that's after her. Raphe is a deadly hot alphahole that's cold as ice. He captures Devon and holds her in his clutches. He likes puzzles and she's one to him. He wants to know all her secrets and she has a lot. This story is packed with mafia intrigue and deadly displays of power. Raphe is the most powerful even if he moves in the shadows and makes plays in secret. He answers to nobody and works for the ones he deems worthy and pays his price. He's deadly, dangerous and delicious with his cold dominance and hot body. Devon is torn between hate and lust as Raphe controls her life. But she feels safe after a long time of running scared. This starts out fast then falls off a little in the middle with too much push/pull between Raphe and Devon but ends up with all the secrets revealed and vengeance dealt in an action packed finale. I didn't read the first story in this series but I will because this was exciting with terrific action and adventure. Raphe is a exceptional hero with his good looks and powerful persona. And talk about skills! I couldn't believe someone didn't pop him. He is a smart talking, irreverent beast. Devon was up and down for me. Sometimes she seemed really young but with her experiences it shouldn't have been the case. When Raphe finally broke and broke her it was hot. I ended up loving this couple and this story. Lots of terrific characters in this mafia world and I look forward to more stories from this group. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
“I know he’s not a saint, I know he makes really awful decisions, but he makes them from a good place for the people he cares about.” Devon
How I have never read anything from this author before? I had no idea what this book was about but I picked it up anyway. I was captivated from word one. I was sucked in and immediately was like okay I’m here for this. I had not even realized I had read 80 percent before I even looked up from my kindle. Devon, she’s been running and hiding in the shadows for a while and she sees something she’s not supposed to and gets caught by Raphe. He’s a planner . He’s definitely not a prince. Maybe a dark prince...but against everything they may be made for each other.. as Devon fights for her freedom and Raphe fights to keep her. I loved the banter. The push and pull.. the give and take and I loved the world that Author Eve Mitchell wrote. It’s easy to follow along and it’s full of action and heat.. she may end up being everything he never knew he needed.... and she may end up with everything she’s ever wanted. You will have to read this incredible book to find out. I can’t wait to read the next one.. that ending ..
New author to me abs I have to say she doesn’t disappoint at all! Devon is a woman on the streets, hiding from an unknown past and trying to stay true to her self. Learning the ropes, staying alert and avoiding the bad guys in the homeless world have kept her relatively safe. All that changes one night when she witness a murder and tries to run for her life. The assassin wastes no time finding her abs sending her world into a tail spin. Spirited and determined to get away Devon is out maneuvered at every turn by Raphe, mister tall dark and deadly. But what games is he playing? Why doesn’t he just kill her instead of playing cat and mouse and making her a prisoner. This is more then a very slow burn love story. There are several strings of storylines in play. Things you won’t see coming. Raphe is a hit man and confused by his need to unravel the street rats story but he sure admires her spunk. There’s murder, mystery, mafia, motorcycle clubs and a girl who seems to be in the middle of it all! I enjoyed the read, the author is detailed oriented so the picture is very well painted and the nuggets of intrigue keep you turning to read one more chapter.
Just when I think I won't love another Eve L. Mitchell book more, she goes and writes another one... and holy cow, what a book.
Beautifully Broken is the second book in the Denver Series, and centers on Devon and Raphe. Devon is running from something... she won't say what, and when you think you know what it is, you really and truly don't. Raphe is my new book boyfriend (Sorry, Aaron... you'll always be #1, promise). He's got a very particular set of skills, is very alpha male, and likes to be in control.
I'll admit that I'm not usually one to go for the "shades of grey" sort of novels... not really my thing. This book, however, was a shade of grey that I could get into. There were even a scene or two where I had to take a walk and cool off a bit. Raphe... I mean, he's delicious.
The plot is what really drew me in... mafia families, crime, running away from troubled pasts... this book really has it all.
And Devon... I absolutely freaking love this girl. I connected with her character for reasons I can't say, because I don't believe in spoilers... but man, I understood her. Seeing her story arc develop, and reading that ending gave me such a delicious sense of closure and satisfaction... I actually re-read the ending because I enjoyed it so much.
I cannot recommend this book enough... do yourself a favor and read it. And then read it again. And just remember--I called dibs on Raphe first.
Intense and thrilling with an amazingly thick plot!
DAMN! The plot in this story is so thick, with so many twists and turn, that my head was spinning by the end. What an amazing story this is! It is one freaking intense and very bumpy roller-coaster ride that will leave you utterly shocked at every turn.
Raphe had me enthralled with his deviousness, his freaking crazy smarts, his darkness and his unbelievable sexiness. Raphe is always twenty steps ahead of every player in this story, including Devon. Whenever he would reveal a new secret or twist, my jaw would literally drop with the knowledge that I never saw any of it coming!
I was always left shocked and stunned by what Raphe or Devon would disclose! I had no freaking clue what was going to happen in this story right from the start all the way to its amazing ending. I don’t think I picked up my jaw from the floor until I closed that book and then I was still reeling with WTF just happened!!
I don’t want to give too much of the story away, you just need to read its brilliance. But be ready for this ride and don’t take your eyes off the page or you might miss something!
This is the 2nd book in this amazing series and is Raphe and Devan’s story. Devon is doing what she must to survive, and when she witnesses a murder one night, she runs. Raphe is dark, controlling, and unapologetically an assassin, and keeps the mysterious Devon close to uncover her secrets. Raphe is persistent but Devon is a fighter and does not give in easily. These two are perfect for each other as she is the light to his darkness and is not judgemental and trying to change who he is, they just accept each other. No spoilers: this is a definite must read you will not be disappointed. This is a well written tale which is emotional, and with drama, violence, angst, and unconditional love. I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I look forward to reading more from this talented author.
"What started out as a simple job, will become the biggest fight that I’ve ever faced."
I can tell you, I'm not fighting this one! This new to me author has just unapologetically added to my TBR list! I can't freaking wait to read more by this author. I'll start with book one of this series, but can't wait to see what else she's got!
I was pulled into this mafia romance, which has been one of my go to genres. I was hard-pressed to put it down. Didn't want to break to eat, go to sleep, and oh yeah, so hard to go to work!
Amazing hours of entertainment! I lust loved Devon and Raphe! Amazing characters!
I received an advanced reader copy, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Oh Raphe and Devon I am not sure I have the words to describe how much I absolutely loved these characters and the Dinamic interactions.
Devon is running from her past but ends up witnessing something she shouldn’t have and finds herself captured in the spiders web that is Raphe. He knows he needs to take care of the problem that is Devon but she intrigues him and want to know more!
Devon is one of the strongest female characters that I have ever read for someone to choose to live like she was that takes amazing strength. Raphe is straight up the almighty alpha a-hole who gives zero fu*ks about anything or anyone.... Until he does. Man is he fierce. I loved every bit of Raphe and Devons banter back and forth Devon gives as good as she gets when it comes to Raphe...
This is book 2 in the Denver series but can be read as a stand-alone. Cannot wait for book 3.
Amazing read. This is definitely a book to meet the Alpha Male Criteria. Devon has been on the run and is down on her luck. Living on the streets and trying to get by. Hiding from her past and hoping to hell that it never catches up to her. But what catches up to her is worse. Raphe is on her trail and he is more determined than a bloodhound on a scent. Raphe vicious and determined to keep Devon on a short leash. Something about Devon keeps calling to him and wanting to keep her close to him. No matter what it takes. This was a Brilliant read. One I Could not put down if you paid me. This book so far has to be my favourite of the series. I cannot wait for the next.
Oh my God this book! Words really aren't enough for how much I fell in love with this book and these characters! Beautifully Broken was beautifully and brilliantly written. The character development and storyline were just magnificent. I could read this book over and over again! Raphe is just well Raphe, he is the ultimate alpha male who I completely fell in love with, while kinda hating at the same time. My emotions were put to the test. There was one part where I felt like my heart was ripped out. This is just one of those books that you HAVE to read!
‘Was it possible to appreciate someone’s good looks while also considering where to bury his body?’
Rating: 4.5
I loved this book ! I loved the flow of the story, how the secrets slowly unfolded and the constant banter/taunting between the two MCs. I also enjoyed the fact that it was a little on the darker side compared to the first book in the series - Her Greatest Mistake and that it had a slight kink to it.
I would recommend this read to those of you who love a slightly dark as*hole Hitman romance.
Thank you to Eve L. Mitchell for giving me the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.
I always wanted to see how this author would handle a mafia story and let me tell you, she knocked it out the park. I knew I was going to love Rafe from the last book but holy moly, I wasn't sure I would end up loving Devon too. The chemistry was intense at times and the banter had me in full on shouty capital mode. Would seriously recommend to anyone who loves the idea of a good mafia story but isn't into all the darkness or who loves mafia stories in general cause lemme tell you the mafia bits were almost as good as the romance bits.
