Under His Spell

Rate this book
I live in a haunted house. Well, at least that’s what the bloggers and ghost hunters think. The legends about the house on Raven Ridge aren’t true. But when I find Sienna in a chat room and read her words of interest in my house, I take an interest. And once I learn more about her, I know I need to get her here by any means necessary. So, sure, I play into the “haunted” rumors.
Once Sienna arrives, she’s even better than my imaginings. Smart, sweet, and utterly adorable—she’s tracking a ghost and won’t be denied. Good thing I can do my part in making the house seem haunted.
Until strange things start happening. . . Sounds, feelings, and creepiness that grows by the day. I always thought the stories about the ghost of Raven Ridge were made-up nonsense, but this October, I’m learning the past is alive, and I’m in a race against the clock to keep Sienna alive, too.
MINK's Note: Grab you a pumpkin spice and a fluffy kitten and enjoy this spooky tale with a sweet HEA.

I love Halloween books and my love for them lol. This baby is a fast pace spooky book with some steam. And a Cat lol

Royce has been in love/lust over ghost loving girl Sienna who talks about the dead as a hobby and he plants some seeds in her head about his haunted place. He doesnt truly believe in ghost but he would fake it to have her there. And let's say smashed cars, creepy houses and a Ghost hunt happens.

And some dangerous stuff happens inside the house.. some stories and a evil ghost who wants Sienna. 😈😈😈

No ow drama tiny om drama (ghost), no cheating, tiny drama, sexy times, virgin gal and no manwhore

⭐⭐⭐estrellitas hechizadas para este corto romance de Halloween!

Under His Spell de MINK

Hands down my favourite from MINK! The idea behind this story makes me wonder with the possibilities of what if.

A haunted house, a tragic mystery that’s never been solved and a love that lasts a lifetime. Pure romance.

A short story but so much packed into it. When fate has a part of bringing two people together to free a ghost trapped by an evil force you know it’s going to love that sets them free. Royce knew instantly that there was something about ghost Hunter Sienna when he discovered her in the chat room surrounding his supposedly haunted house. He’s not sure he believes it but he’ll do whatever it takes to get her to his home and too him.

Siennas passion is exploring the unknown, when she falls into Royces arms she feels a connection instantly, it’s like she’s finally found where she belongs.

But with the anniversary of the mystery only a day away it’s going to take love to set Sarah free and back into her Henry’s arm.

I loved it! It’s a yes from me.

I was really contemplating giving this read just one star... This is officially the worst written novella by MINK. Why?

Well, first of all, it felt like it was written on a knee in 5 min by a man who has a small penis and needs to write about the 'so many orgasms he gave to his woman'. Except of that, I understand soulmates but this was so unrealistic I was just stopping in a middle cursing, and arguing with myself to DNF this every single page. And I don't even mean the 'magic' or 'seeing ghosts' parts... I'm talking about the relationship between the hero and heroine...

Oh well... This might be the end of me reading this author... And thinking how great her first novella was! Do you remember the Christmas themed one with neighbours and decorating their houses?

Perfect for Halloween

Cute and creepy story. Royce lures Sienna to him, under false pretenses. An old love story is the basis for this story. Creepy bad guy and lots of suspense and twists that I didn’t see coming. Loved the epilogue!

Under His Spell by MINK

HERO - Royce Raven. Owner of Hilltop Manor, a purportedly haunted house. Gorgeous with dark hair and eyes, tall, and lanky.

HEROINE - Sienna. Ghost hunter. Crystal blue eyes with a rim of green around the pupil. Freckles across her nose and cheeks.

OVERALL THOUGHTS - Generally, I liked it. The atmosphere and setting were on point and definitely put me in the mood for spooky season. I’d say I was completely on board for the first third of the book, but around chapter seven things took a little bit of a nose dive.

The plot set up is a great one - Royce meets Sienna through a ghost-hunting chat room and falls in love at first text. He lures her to his purportedly haunted home, determined to make her his. He doesn't believe it's haunted, but he's willing to make Sienna think it is. Sienna, who hunts ghosts as a hobby, is on board almost immediately and heads there with the story’s Signature Cat, Lucifer. Unfortunately, that’s where the issues start, but I didn’t realize it until later in the book when I realized nothing was going to be explained in more detail.

Because the story begins with her already on the road to his house, we don’t know what he said to lure her there. Why does that matter? Well, she thinks it’s abandoned. She’s not going there to meet him...she doesn’t even know he exists. That makes me wonder what their conversations were like and how he managed to invite her if he didn’t reveal who he was or the fact that he lived there. What, he just pretended to be a random stranger and encouraged her to visit an abandoned house by herself? If she thought she was talking to a complete stranger, how did he ever get her to open enough to where he fell in love with what he was reading?

Later in the story, we’re led to believe that they were both feeling a supernatural pull towards each other, which made her more willing to visit a creepy old house in the middle of nowhere. Still, though, this is the one time I felt I could have done with a prologue that covered snippets of their chat conversations or something.

Let’s talk about character development - there isn’t any. Other than her eyes, and being small, I had a tough time picturing Sienna. Her hair color and length are never revealed, and she’s mentioned to wear glasses only once so I didn’t know if I should picture her in them the whole time. She does ghost hunting as a hobby, but what’s her day job? Or does she not work and is maybe a student, instead? How old is she? What’s her life like outside of this particular ghost-hunting trip? The most we got was that she grew up in a girls’ home.

Then there’s Royce. All we know about him is that he’s been fixing up Hilltop Manor, which has been in his family for generations, and that oh yeah, he’s also killed a lot of people. The latter tidbit is mentioned once and then never again. Did he kill in the past or is that still a common occurrence for him? Did he do it for pleasure or work? Is he a part of the Brotherhood or Red Dragoons that MINK likes to write about so often? Did he work for the government? I mean, we get no elaboration whatsoever. We don’t know what he does for work, we don’t know why he’s settled in the house suddenly, we don’t know how old he is either. He’s also portrayed to be a skeptic of hauntings, but the lights go out exactly once and he’s suddenly a believer, no questions asked.

There are also quite a few inconsistencies throughout the story and things left unexplained, especially with a side character named Henry. Also, I think this was supposed to take place at Halloween, but I’m not 100% sure about that. It’s definitely autumn - like I said, the atmosphere and setting were the best things about this story - but Halloween isn’t mentioned until the epilogue when it’s stated that it’s Halloween again which makes me wonder if the main story was supposed to be set at Halloween and the author just forgot to tell us that. The blurb does state it’s October, but it’s not mentioned in the book itself. It doesn't really matter, though, because it’s a good spooky story in general, no holiday needed.

The romance was sweet, but I would have liked a little more development, again. They're immediately attracted to one another, there's no push/pull, which I love, but instead of taking the time to write scenes of them getting to know one another, their intense pull is chalked up to being soulmates or something supernatural. And by getting to know one another, I don't mean sharing knowledge about the house or it's hauntings.

The epilogue takes place an unknown number of years in the future which, again with the vagueness, but it’s an HEA so I’ll take it. Obviously, I run very hot and cold with this title, but like I said, it was enjoyable to a point. I would recommend, however, that you go in with disbelief suspended and DON’T ask yourself too many questions while reading. I’d also like to note that this story is quite a bit shorter than what MINK normally publishes and it definitely suffers for it. Just think of all the development, details, and explanations we could have gotten if it were 30-40 pages longer.

Gloriously over the top with a nice paranormal twist. In other words, we have a sweetly trusting, incredibly innocent heroine who throws all caution to the wind upon first meeting the hero. By that I mean Sienna goes all in and rolls with everything Royce suggests.

Fortunately for her, he's (mostly) gentlemanly (the luring her to his house with tantalizing tales of hauntings can't really count against him when they end up being real, can they?) and utterly smitten. Which means he has no intention of ever hurting her in any way.

The entity in the house, on the other hand, isn't quite as gentlemanly.

A bump or two in the night, a mystery from the past, and a little magic. Plus, you know, the requisite steam and sparks. Good stuff!

I thought that this was a great book. I loved Royce and Sienna together. I loved the holiday themed book and how it had me on the edge of my seat, turning pages, to find out what happens next. I loved that Royce didn't make fun of Sienna when she told him of her history and how will they complimented each other. Royce is a possessive obsessive alpha who was and is willing to get, have, and keep Sienna. Sienna is kooky but sweet and shy but is still brave and is determined to do the right thing. I loved the HEA that these two had and I can't wait to see what Mink has in store for us next!

Spooky Good!

Insta-love meets Practical Magic with a hefty dose of deviously delish love scenes. Royce and Sienna are powerless against the pull that brings them together and not even a curse can tear them apart.

This was some white people shit.

Royce was living with a ghost, Sienna cyphers a book and seemingly casts a spell all within a few days of meeting each other?

It was a short, steamy and at times well beyond the realm of reality story. Liked it.

Royce lives in a haunted mansion, his great great grandmother, Sarah was killed by a bad man, taken from her beloved husband. Sienna has been able to see ghosts from a young age, but the older she got the less she saw them, so now she seeks them out. An online forum and a little ghostly help get her to the Raven Manor where Royce is waiting for her. He thinks he set into motion Sienna coming to him, but later Sienna thinks it was Sarah. From their first meeting the chemistry is there and neither can stay away from the other. Sienna came with her ghost hunting helper, her cat Lucifer, who is missing her first night there. She goes in search of her and ends up in the basement where she encounters some evil presence. Lucifer wakes Royce up and leads him to Sienna in the basement. They both feel the evil and realize it’s Carlan the man who they think murdered Sarah. It turns out Carlan was an evil warlock and Sarah a good witch. Sienna works to find Sarah’s spell to destroy Carlan, and enjoy some sexy times. They go to the basement and destroy him and live happily ever after. Epilogue years later with children.
Love a true love, soulmates story, plus add in a little help from ghosts makes it a very enjoyable Halloween read.

Under His Spell is a cute insta-love story to get you in the spooky spirit this year.
I will say I was really disappointed that this one was so vague on details that MINK usually seems to be able to pack in such short stories.
We start the story out right away with Sienna driving to investigate the haunting of the Raven Ridge Manor. She's under the belief that it's abandoned, but yet when we get to Royce's point of view he's mentions quite a bit how he lured her there. I guess if would've been nice to see maybe a prologue with the conversations these two had that got her so interested in going to the manor.
Other details that were absent that aren't usually in stories by MINK were descriptions of the characters looks and jobs. We know that Sienna is a ghost hunter, but it is never said if this is her actual job and if it's one that is successful. All we get of Royce's past is that he's killed people...but what does or did he do?

It's a cute holiday story that will seem to pass the afternoon away. But it's just not up to what I'm used to with MINK's books.

Under His Spell by MINK is a short novella inspired by Halloween and it's ghost stories. This story is different from what we normally read by MINK but it doesn't disappoint nonetheless. From a ghost hunter to witches, warlocks and spells to a cat named Lucifer, this is story could transform your lunchtime read in time to get you into the halloween spirit.

In this story an online chat room has brought Sienna to investigate the ghost of Raven Ridge. She goes to Hilltop Manor, the home of the ghost of Raven Ridge where she meets Royce Raven, the great-great-great grandson of Sarah Raven, one of the alleged ghosts mentioned in the tales.
Royce Raven never believed the stories about the ghosts of his ancestors but after meeting Sienna in the online chat room he will do whatever it takes to meet her. When they both finally meet there is instant chemistry and before you know it they get intimate. Not only has the manor brought them together but it has them fighting a warlock, casting spells and uniting old lovers once again.

As I said before, this story is so unlike any of MINK's other works but it is still a good read that is bound to get you into the halloween spirit.

Royce Raven lives in a supposedly haunted house. For the most part, all that knowledge does is keep people away. When he finds a woman in a chat room who is obsessed with ghosts, he is strangely drawn to her. He quickly becomes obsessed with her and knows that he will do anything to keep her. Even lure her in to investigate his “haunted house”.

Sienna has always been obsessed with the supernatural so when the chance to investigate the infamous Hilltop Manor comes up she jumps at the chance. When she gets there, though, the house is not exactly abandoned. It might be more haunted than Royce knows, though.

I thought this story was a really good concept. As always, Mink does not disappoint with her combination of humor and drama (and fluffy kitties). There is more to this story than originally meets the eye!

First things first; I love the cover of this book!
This story is short, fast paced and an enjoyable read. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. I found the writing style easy to follow, the characters likeable and the storyline enjoyable. Sienna has a ghost-hunting hobby that she loves. When she hears about a haunted house, she decides to take a visit. Royce has wanted Sienna since he found her on the ghost chat site. Determined to make her his woman, he tempts her to his ‘’haunted mansion’’. What he doesn’t expect is to be by her said battling a paranormal situation.
The chemistry between Sienna and Royce is clear to see and I liked them together. I loved how possessive and protective Royce was of Sienna.
I really liked the ending and the epilogue for this story.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is an enjoyable read.

I downloaded this book after seeing the reviews for it were GLOWING. Now that I have finished it I don’t think I actually read the right book. The “chemistry“ between the two characters was so out there. There was no longing or slow burn between them. She was a virgin and ready for him to take her in less than 8 hours of knowing him! It was so out there I was having a hard time keeping myself focused. 24 hours later and “many” orgasms later her convinced her they were soulmates and were deeply in love. I also can’t get over the annoying need to include pregnancy in smut books. Because of course, she needed to bear his spawn because they loved each other so much. I just wanted a steamy spooky story and all I got was a headache and an hour and a half of my life wasted.

I really liked this story. It was entertaining and enjoyable although I would have liked to know a little more about Royce and what he used to do for a living (or still does?). The characters were interesting and likable. I loved the twist and I didn't see it coming so I wasn't prepared. Sienna was different in a good way as she was accepting of things that she didn't understand. Royce was different in an interesting way with his obsessive and protective feelings for Sienna. Henry and Lucifer added some fun to the story. Sienna and Royce ended up very happy and that made me smile. I recommend reading this book.

I love Halloween and ghost stories. I love MINK's books. Together they form a lovely novella that will got me in the mood for Halloween. It was a fun, atmospheric read, sorta like a Halloween special show for a television series. There wasn't a lot of detail about Royce and Sienna but enough to roll on and just enjoy the story. Royce is a possessive guy from the start, as I would expect from this author. Sienna likes to hunt for ghosts and just enough quirkiness to be engaging. The ghost was a great addition, just the right amount of spookiness. All in all, I had fun, it was cute but I would have liked a little bit more of everything. 4 stars for Under His Spell.

So many unanswered questions. I wished this was a full-length novel because the concept is amazing! I wish it was not insta love and we got to spend more time exploring the house and the mysteries behind it. I wanted to see more character building as well. I think the idea behind this book is so strong and I just wanted more even though I was enjoying myself.
Unanswered questions
* how did you not know he was a ghost? like was he just there when you moved in?
* why would you fuck a guy you met two seconds ago at his haunted house?
* does she have a sense of survival? NO
* why has he killed people and almost been killed? What did he do for work?

What a beautifully tantalizing tale of soulmates and spells! I found myself lost to this amazing and haunted house full of history, life and passion. The longing for love that lasts a lifetime and beyond left my heart full and hopeful. What a sizzling and tender combination that stole the breath from my lungs!

Mink knows how to dangle the perfect bate and bring two people together who are absolutely perfect for each other. Her stories always lift my spirits and make my heart lighter. She is the perfect author for me, and I sincerely and deeply love and savor each of them!
