Desecrated Duet #2

Desecrated Essence

Rate this book
What happens when your only source of warmth and light leaves you?
The dismal shadows once kept at bay, begin to seep back in and coat everything the light once touched. All feeling becomes saturated in their inky grasp and escape becomes impossible. She left me here in the dark, alone and awaiting the impending destruction.

Who do you turn to when you feel all is lost?
His presence isn’t welcomed, and his anger scorches my insides, but at least he never leaves. Now that I’m truly alone, his claws sink deep and trying to flee would be futile. We are one, him and I. There’s nothing I can do but watch the storm clouds roll in.

How do I warn them if the warning is me?
I can’t control him once he has something in his sights, his determination knows no bounds, and his wrath is an addiction I know too well. There’s no stopping the lightning if you don’t hear the thunder.

oh man! I'm bumping my rating to 2.5, It just didn't work out for me in contrast to what I am truly expecting...

To be fair I did like Desecrated Flesh way more better than this conclusion. I think that the first part of the duet empowers a terrific opening to this storyline, character, and plot device wise. The writing style showcases strong sentiments towards the reader. The raw material structure of the book and it's being standpoint. Again Book 1 sets the mood for this duet.

However Desecrated Essence sadly, didn't catch my interest at all. First and foremost I truly appreciate the Author's Note yet my biggest dilemma with this book is how being ROMANTICIZED in any shape or form. I don't like how the depiction being demoralized it was jarring and far-fetched at least in my opinion.

I don't have triggers and Dark Romance has always been my favorite sub-genre, still Desecrated Essence to me was just the result of being overdone and overplayed right from the get-go until the ending.

Also, the psychological gradient on Brody's character didn't sit right with me, how he was suddenly the villain and his condition being used as the medium for his horrifying actions towards KH was inexcusable. Moreover, it's just odd how fast our heroine characterization drastically changes from badass to passive-aggressive mentality it was overwhelming.

In all honesty, I just didn't care for the characters, and even after what happens to Brody's character I'm not even slightly moved or become emotional about it. It solely paints anticlimactic scenery for me. I just don't share the same sentiments that the author trying to convey, the martyrdom act didn't persuade me at least that's what I am getting from C.A. Rene stance. I supposed to loved the hero/s instead you picture him out as a villain, anti-hero is one thing but villain is a whole lot distinct. And what's with that Epilogue???

Anyway, I'm just dissatisfied with how the events turned out, I wish it went differently and didn't just go south. The thing is the storyline had so much potential and momentum that could have been outshining the first book. I'm leaning towards consistency and advancement unfortunately it wasn't articulated well enough.

That epilogue has me feeling some type of way...especially after reading the last chapter and I mourned only to find out the opposite!
This book was simply amazing.
I was hooked on Brody! We finally get to know this icy man who’s capable of many horrible things. I loved this duet. The high school boys in the book didn’t really feel like hs boys. In fact they gave me a very mafia feel and I loved it.
I want more!

Desecrated Essence is book two, the conclusion for Desecrated Duet, and is much darker than book one. I am always chasing the next dark romance author who keeps my attention. Which now includes C.A.Rene to that list. Rene created a dark, suspenseful book with lots of steam; there are no boring parts, and she captived me from the first sentence. I thought I was ready to say goodbye to these characters, and I was far from it. I loved them all, especially Caine and Oliver.

Of course, each fantastic dark romance books comes with triggers—rape, violence, mental health illness, to name a few.

Desecrated Essence is in several POVs. Of Course, Kailey Finally, we read Zeke and Brody. It was great to read Brody’s perspective but trust me, at times, you won’t think that. He does some unforgivable acts. Brody is very dark, intense, and we see how he ends up the way he is. Zeke is such a believer and sees the good in people and those piercings. Hot Damn.

Book two starts off three months after book one ended. We read what happened in those three months. From there, the story picks up very quickly and doesn't slow down. There are so many secrets; you think you know them all or what will happen next. I did, and I was wrong. One of my favorite men, in particular, I am still in shock. There is a plan in place and not all privy to the plan and their roles.

For the tragic events Kailey has endured, she can be naive. What I like was her character growth. She grew to be a force to be reckoned with. As much as she knows she loves the light, she loves the dark, what lurks in the shadows and how to balance them.

The ending was left open for a spin-off. I hope we see and would love to see what she creates. I highly recommend this duet if you love dark romance or are interested in dark romance.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review

This book killed me. I am not okay. C.A Rene is a witch, I think. 😁 Everytime I read one of her books... after I finish, it's like separation anxiety at the end. I read slower if I realize it's almost over. Kinda crazy, yeah? See, I told ya. She's definitely a witch. She witchy woos her books and then after I'm a hot mess trying to write a review... but instead, it's this gibberish.

Okay, so about the book - Desecrated Essence is the second book of the duet. It's gonna break you. Oh and there are triggers too. So, don't go reading if you have any, cus well... bad stuff happens. Like in real time. And it's trigger-y if you have those. If not, you'll be fine.

This duet is really amazing. It's got all the usual markers of an excellent dark romance RH, yet it's entirely unique. I love it. Love the characters and their brand of violence. It's perfect.

Multi PoV, RH, dark romance, sexy times galore... so good. Just read it. You know you wanna!

Okay I'll say it, what the fuck was this clusterfuck? No I'm not even talking about the epilogue or the "plot twist" that we were supposed to get. No I'm talking about the part where her best friend rapes her to make here "stronger". Bro you need to go get your head checked... Oh yes he already did get it checked right? And he turned out to have a mental disease right? Right. Wow I'm in literal shock (and not even the good sort of shock) with the way she was made "stronger". And then the way Zeke was like "go fix him" WTF ASSHOLE?! HOW IS SHE SUPPOSED TO FIX HIM? BY LETTING HIM RAPE HER AND MAKING HER BLEED IN THE NAME OF EXTRACTING REVENGE FOR NOT TALKING TO THEM ALL AFTER SHE WAS BRUTALLY RAPED (by one of her best friend's brother and another man no less)?? The first book in the duet was pretty much good and then we have this book on the other hand... I was literally fuming when I read the ending and it has this HUGE cliffhanger sorts of epilogue... HAHA NO THANKS I'M GOOD WITHOUT ANOTHER BOOK OF THIS SORT. I would like to keep my sanity thanks. Okay and our female falls in love with this mf because he was hurting while trying to ignore the fact that he raped her. Girl you need to sort out your priorities. The plot was pretty much non-existent because for about 60 to 65% of the time it was about her rape and all.... again. It felt like the author was trying to wrap it up but some of the stuff still doesn't make any sense. And then we have the baby scene at last like tf are you trying to tell us man? That they get a happily ever after? Haha babe please if anyone is reading this please do not think of it as hea kind of book. We were told that her bf died at the end but the problem is that I did not feel connected enough to him to mourn his death and just when I start getting sad about his death... BOOM we have him alive and as stalkerish as ever in front of us. I guess the only thing I kept repeating throughout the duet was STOP-? WTF IS THIS NOW? WHY IS THIS HAPPENING AGAIN? The only reason I'm giving this book two stars is because the plot could've turned out better. Also the other boys were okay even though they were idiots for thinking that she was fine and not checking up on her. Sorry but this book just didn't work out for me. I'm seriously disappointed.

jesus fucking christ, this book. i’m skipping parts after trying to endure numerous pages about how this book just romanticized getting raped and abused!!! wtf is this book?! Seriously???

desecrated flesh was better. while there were some things i found questionable on that book, this ??? desecrated essence takes the cake of one of the things that i’ve hated to read. i love reverse harem tropes, makes me swoon and everything, but a man who constantly threatens Kails just to do whatever he wanted? to fuck her with a key and then wash away the blood after? to tell NOT believe her when she said she was raped, repeatedly?

i hated the part he literally raped her and said afterwards about how she liked it. he acted EXACTLY how her rapists were and he what? gets redemption? gets a few more chapters of me reading about his thoughts, his “monster” and how he wanted to kill kails?

i’ve never written any reviews before seeing as how i’m new here on goodreads and when i was looking for RH books and saw how this got 5 stars, jesus fucking christ, it’s madness.

i’m not finishing this fucking book. it’s shit. the first one was better but this was absolute just shit. i’ve read other reviews and learned apparently that brody has DID. WHAT A SHIT REPRESENTATION THAT WAS.

also, can we not forget the fact that kails apologized to the fucking rapist FOR HURTING HIM???? WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCK WAS THAT? i’m so mad at this book for wasting my fucking time. if you’re going to write about something heavy and something dark, at least make it fucking worthwhile.

what the fuck?? ITS RAPE!! BRODY DESERVES TO BURN.

(i don’t apologize for my cursing, i really hate—HATE this book.)

"Desecrated Essence" is the second part of the "Desecrated Duet" by the author C.A. Rene. Told in dual perspectives , this book was the very definition of DARK!!!

When I read the first part of this duet , I was like… this is not dark at all. If I only knew the type of MindFuck this author was going to give us in the second book!!! She absolutely hit the sixer with this one and I found myself skipping a few scenes because they were too dark for me. The whole book focused on Brody and His relationship with Kailey. Kailey is comfortable with her relationship with Caine and Oliver. But now it was time for Brody to settle his scores. Kailey was a traitor in his eyes and now it was her turn to pay him back. And boy , did he make her pay her back!!!

Brody was truly one of the top characters that made me love and hate him at the same time. He was so dark and ruthless that I hated him at times and then he showed me those little vulnerable sides of his and I was all over him again lol. The author did a 180 I'm this book and I can't even tell you guys how much darker it was than the first book. It was a HEA but the ending still stunned me as I expected something different!!!!

I want more from these characters 😭😭 , specially after that ending!!! Brody is officially my favourite and I hope the author gives us more of him . A definite recommendation to all the dark Romance lovers out there , if you are a fan of dark high school RH bully Romance with a tinge of mystery in it then don't hesitate to one click this one!

HOLY SHIT!!!!
I.AM.NOT.OK.RIGHT.NOW!!!!
THIS BOOK!!!! THIS FRICKEN BOOK!! THIS BOOK KILLED ME!!!!
I have no words!!!
Actually, I LIE because I have SO MANY words for this book because it was off that charts amazing!!!!

Desecrated Essence is an entirely different book to Desecrated Flesh. Yes, book one had a darkness to it and was emotional heart wrenching but Desecrated Essence took such a dark turn and we were taken down a road that I did not fucking expect. It destroyed my soul!!!
It shocked me so much that I was screaming out loud at so many different points. I was getting so angry and could not believe what I was reading!!!!
There was definitely a few times I had to put it down. I needed to take a break and try and pull myself together. I had no idea what was going to happen and no clue on how the story was going to end.
Speaking of... THAT ENDING!!!!!!!!
Ooohhhhhh maaaaaa gaaaaawd!
I know this is a duet, so what is next?!?! I need to know?!?!?! I NEED MORE!!!!!

This book was seriously phenomenal!!!!! I seriously struggled to put it down and I am not nursing a serious book hangover!

I cannot wait to see what book CA Rene has in store for us next!!! If it is anything like this book, SIGN ME UP ASAP!!!!!

THE REVIEW FOR THE BOOK: DESECRATED ESSENCE.

GENRE: DARK CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE.
AUTHOR:C.A. Rene.
TYPE: BOOK #2 OF THE DESECRATED DUET.
POV: FIRST PERSON: MULTIPLE POV.
MY RATING: 4 STARS.

Okay...so this was not at all what I was expecting for it to turn out after the end of book 1...I mean on the spectrum of darkness, it exceeded all my expectations and so much more.
Out of all the men, Brody was the one who played with head in the most sinister way... but now we got a glimpse inside his head...and that place is not for a fairy tale. His monsters are barely out and you can't imagine the disaster it will bring if that man is full-blown...

Kailey is the broken girl who is trying to get by but worse is yet to come and this gang of boys is coming for her... But here we see a new Kailey, a stronger one who is more than enough to defeat the one who is trying to break her down.

There are MANY triggers in this book....the author is not fooling anyone with her warning because the darkness here is pitch black. Read this book if your heart can bear it.

Desecrated Essence is the second book in the Desecrated Duet series. For me, Desecrated Essence takes erotica to a whole new level.

We are three months later than the end of Desecrated Flesh, the first book in the series.

I started reading Desecrated Essence as soon as I finished Desecrated Flesh. The characters fascinate, disgust, and frighten me. Psychopaths and sociopaths walk around us, never showing their true colors. Here, you will see them. Understand them? Probably not.

Pleasure and pain. Dark…I found these characters so deep, dark and primal, I cannot put into words what I felt as I read, yet I couldn’t stop reading. I am so disturbed that I have to know how their story ends.

I know I keep repeating myself, but I don’t even know what to say about Kailey…and the rest. Sex, sex, sex. I am worn out just reading about it. I am getting bored and kinda grossed out by all the sex, yet I am waiting to see what the Monster wants.

I know there is more to story about the guys, how dangerous they are. They do come from mob families.

I do love reading about dark, depraved characters, but these guys are so far gone, I don’t think any of them can be saved. To say they have mental issues is putting it way to mildly They are brutal, savage, murderous, yet, like all criminals, they do have a code of their own.

I had trouble writing the review for the first book, Desecrated Flesh, and I am having an equally hard time writing a review for Desecrated Essence.

If you like to wallow in the dangerous, brutal world of sexual degradation, come on in.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Desecrated Essence by C A Rene.

HOLY S*** WTF DID I JUST READ🔥🤯

Book 2 of the Desecrated Duet is here and
C.A Rene pulled out alllllll the stops for this one! I didn’t think we could go much darker than the first one but damnnnnnnn Rene definitely proved me wrong this one it DARK DARK!!

*IF YOU HAVE ANY TRIGGERS READ THE WARNING BECAUSE THIS BOOK IS FULL OF THEM!

This book is so dark and raw it gutted me! I was hooked from page one and I didn’t stop till the last page! This one picks up 3 months after the first one ended. We get multiple POV’s(Kailey, Zeke and Brody) , Dark themes and some HOT steamy scenes along with some heavy BOMB DROPS! This book brutally tore my heart out, stomped on it and slowly mended it again then to do it all over again!!

We get an eye opening experience into Brodys mind in this one and it a very, very dark and twisted place. I must admit he was not my favorite in book one! But damn he is now! This book helps me understand him so much more! And now he is right up there with my favorite main man Caine🔥

Kailey’s growth into this book was amazing. We finally see her bloom and accept her dark side and I am totally here for it.

And wow that ending!! I am not okay!!
I highly recommend this Duet!! Actually I recommend everything this author writes she has fast become one of my favorite Dark Romance authors! Hopefully 🙏 we get more from these characters in the future because I seriously could not get enough!!!

Wow. Right from the very beginning this book starts with a bang...literally. & I was ACTUALLY swooning.
But then it got REAL. Brody came into the picture and blew me to pieces. I am just dust right now. I am not actually here. You are reading my ghost's words. Everything from here on out was BRUTAL. I held my breath the entire time.
Then when Kailey confronted her dad I think I died AGAIN. My soul left and floated to another dimension.
I was thoroughly impressed from start to finish. I never wanted this story to end. I was on the edge of my seat. I read this story with an ear infection and a fever but couldn't stop. Not even my sickness could force me to quit. I loved Caine, Brody, Cooper, Oliver and Zeke 1000000 times more in this book than the first one and I REALLY loved them in book 1.

The romance was hotter. ✔
The sex was more intense. ✔
The drama was crazier. ✔
The characters had GROWN immensely. ✔

That ending....WOW. THAT ENDING!!! I want another book! It cannot end like that!!!! OMG! I am so in love with this story, these characters, this author I just am so freaking OBSESSED!!!!!! 5 stars and MORE!

This duet is everything. Exploring deep issues so eloquent and letting Kailey deal with her issues without being questioned. Kailey poured her words out in the first instalment and this instalment just brings so much tragedy. It's beautiful through as much it's tragic and brings this series to a satisfying conclusion.

Rene is an author to watch out for and writes stories that will tear you heart apart. One to watch

This duet is brutal and so dark and if you have triggers and want to read this please be prepared cause the triggers list is long but it’s so worth it. Kailey broke my heart for what she endured in book one and in this book well honestly it’s worse for her but she was resilient and determined in what she thought was in the name of love. At times I had to walk away from this book at what was happening to her but it was written flawlessly.

I need more stars because 5 IS NOT enough

UGH!!!!! I don't even know what I want to say right now.

I need to breath and smoke a Newport (yes smoking is bad for you ok 🙄)

C. A. Rene is the antidote for my book ADHD (I book hop and have 5+ going at once usually). When I can sit and actually read (because I won't even let Alexa read her books to me) she pulls me so deep into her pages, makes me so invested in her characters and storyline that I'm like totally lost and in another world, on another plane.

(Exhales sharply) I got to a point in this book that made me get all snot-nosed and teary-eyed. Then I got like really awesome news after that so I'm good now.

Get your behind on this rollercoaster. Enjoys the ups with me and scream at the downs. But know you need to watch out for C. A. Rene because she holds nothing back in her writing and she's taking the indie world by storm.

Every time I read something by this author it's refreshing and original. She's dirty and dark and delicious.

Okay byeeeee off to read more bye this talented being.

Completely gutted

This book was probably one of my top favorite books of 2020. As a dark romance fan, this story included every element that I love in the dark genre from stalking to high steam. It continues immediately from book one with Kailey and her guys but an absent Brody. Some secrets have been revealed in book 1, but there are those yet to be uncovered including family ties and the underground.

As with book one, I was so overcome, shook, almost without words to describe how much I liked part two. I loved the:
- excellent pace, never a dull moment; in fact, it delivered heart-pounding action and trepidation
- character development: distinct and charismatic characters — warm yet steely Kailey, taboo and formidable teacher Oliver, fierce Caine, sweet Cooper, and menacing (and my favorite) Brody, yet each of these antiheroes potentially dangerous
- steaminess: Intimacy and unconventional love scenes were pure fire in this book, everyone comfortable in their own sexuality
- mystery and suspense unexpected and explosive
- gritty, dark, twisted storyline with surprising (shocking?) ending
- intense feelings elicited for each of the characters, their pain and their growth

Simply excellent delivering not only an intriguing storyline but darkness typically not found in new adult series. This author pushed the boundaries, went outside bully romance pro forma, and wrote a story that was original and captivating. Not only have I discovered a new author, I have claimed a new book boyfriend. Yes, Brody!

Hard hitting, emotional, beautifully written masterpiece by C.A Rene. Round of applause for ruining me once again.
.
Damn this was a heavy read. I had to stop at one point and really try to slow down reading this to truly take it all in. Did that work? Nope not at all, because I devoured this! This duet will leave you speechless, an emotional wreck and in my case? Open your mind up to a world of depravity you didn’t think existed and the outcome of it.
.
This book comes with a trigger warning and this being a dark romance should really tell you something. I really don’t want to give too much away because this book was written incredibly well especially with the themes of it. The plot was amazing. From beginning to end it has you at the edge of your seat and this book truly left nothing to the imagination. Have tissues handy because y’all gonna need it. The characters, where do I even begin? On one spectrum you have one shrouded in so much darkness and the extremity in which their actions go to was astounding. The battle of this particular mental health, I had not seen in any book so it really opened my eyes up to it and, dare I say, I kinda wanted more.
.
On the other hand we have someone fighting past demons while also refusing to acknowledge their past mistakes so it truly made for an interesting play out when they butted heads. Meanwhile I also loved getting to see the multiple povs, do I wish the other 3 got a pov or 2? Yes but at the same time I loved the book how it was. That ending? GOLD! I’m really hoping we will revisit this world in the future with how this ended.
.
This world is dark, mysterious, conniving and full of secrets. A lot of secrets come to light and I was shook at some of them. The twists? Had me flipping through this book hanging off of every word I cannot get enough. I also love how the polyandry aspect in this book was normalised for the world it was in. Definitely made it intriguing. I have loved every minute of this book and I did not want it to end. I’m left bereft like I don’t know what to do with myself now that it’s over.
.
C.A Rene, you are a genius mastermind and I bow down to you. Truly an amazing experience and one I won’t forget!

This is the conclusion to the Desecrated Duet. This book will give you all the feels.
In this book we see Kailey really grow into her own person and toughen up and to start making decision and owning them. I have to say the path that Brody went down I was completely shocked but I can see why it happened. The Golden Four had so many secrets that were kept from Kailey and we uncover them all and find out the plan they had devised from the start we just didn't know what part each character played.

The Desecrated Duet blew me away and I could not put these books down. I read the duet in one sitting (7hrs) and I'm completely sleep deprived today but that's ok as it was definitely worth it. C.A. Rene smashed this duet and she may have ended the duet with a possible storyline to see a future book surrounding these characters which I would absolutely love to read.

HOLY FUCK. I CANNOT EVEN RIGHT NOW. THIS BOOK IS EVERYTHING! CA, you are a fucking ______ < -- insert an epically genius word because I am speechless right now with this book and unable to find words to describe my emotional turmoil and how wonderful you are.

Desecrated Essence is the 2nd and final book of the Desecrated Duet. This book is absolutely EVERYTHING and NOTHING like the first book. THE MIND FUCKERY. I was completely blindsided by this book. I did not see ANY of this in DF. The events that unfold, secrets that are revealed, motives for all the actions and events that have happened. The thought process that is displayed. THE FUCKING ENDING. I'm speechless. I am not ok. I don't even know how to write about this book and the story without giving anything away. Hands down one of my top books of 2020. READ IT.

These are the first books written by C. A Rene that I have read, but not the last for sure. Also it's the second time that I read RH stories and I still ask myself why I don't read more of this trope.

The second book focuses on what happened after the Georgina's yacht party. It starts three months after Brody has gone missing. This part focuses more on Brody and Kailey's relationship and it has a lot of action and questions answered.
It's quite hard to describe the plot without giving spoilers, but this blowed my mind and left me craving more of their story.

This duet was a roller-coaster, action packed and hot, the sex scenes are something else entirely. I hope there will be an epilogue, I want to read more.

P. S. There are triggers, so this is my warning. Read them before you start this book.

Holy finale

Well.

Wow.

Speechless.

At the end of Desecrated Flesh we were left on this cliffhanger and like me you may have assumed your knew where this was probably going. Boy was I wrong.

C.A. reached into my chest and decimated my insides with this book. I laughed, I raged, I didn't know what was happening next.

Brody Brody Brody is just misunderstood okay. He's fine. Everything is fine. Do not go into this thinking you know what to expect because trust me C.A. said jajajaja NOPE!!!

Okay I thought the first book in the duet was good but man, this second book was fan-freaking-tastic. This book gets much darker than book 1 so be warned but this story blew me away. My heart completely shattered in some parts! And by the end I definitely duct taped my broken heart back together. AND THAT ENDING!!! oh my God I cant even. This book was amazing. I thought I knew what a dark romance book was, but the Desecrated Duet showed me I had no idea. Since this is a duet, you absolutely need to read book 1, Desecrated Flesh, before you can begin this one. I was intrigued by the trigger warning in the beginning of the book and wondered what would happen because of how book 1 ended. Boy do you find out. This book hurt to read for so many reasons. I went through a whole range of emotions: happy, angry and I even cried. I spent the majority of the book unsure of how to feel. I was absolutely not ready for this DE, nor the ensuing hangover.

“Let those be your reminder, everything that lives will one day dry up and crumble into the earth. So, live each day like you are vibrant and free, because before you know it, your essence is blowing in the wind.”

I can’t talk about much because it would be a spoiler and I’m a huge advocate of going in as blind as possible. With this book, it’s even more important.

One thing I really loved was KH’s growth. She went from being an abused girl to a strong woman and man did she earn that title.
There’s so much going on throughout this book with the Golden Four’s and the other crime families that you don’t completely understand what’s happening until the end. Or at least you think you do. And then BAM! The epilogue happens and you’re left with your jaw somewhere close to the floor. Or at least that was my reaction - I absolutely did not see that coming! I love being surprised almost as much as I enjoy figuring out the mystery before it comes out in the story.

Desecrated Flesh was the first book I read by CA and I’m hooked! I loved her writing style, the characters and how she wasn’t afraid to write a truly dark duet.

This is the second book in the Desecrated Duet series! If you love a good dark read, then this book is perfect for you. I personally have no triggers, but this book pulled some emotions out of me that I wasn’t expecting! Once I was past that particular part of the book, I fell down the rabbit hole! I couldn’t put this book down! I’m really hoping that there is a 3rd book in the works because the ending feels like a cliffhanger! I really enjoyed this book and I definitely recommend it to anyone that does not have triggers! The author does warn the reader that the book contains triggers. 10 star review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
