For any of you who follow my reviews regularly you will know that Kick-Ass women are a big yes when it comes to the kind of book I will pick up! Add the werewolf dynamic with that hint of magic and I had to give this book a try! Because I have read so many of these I was really glad for the opening section really laying out what Myths were going be relevant within this world. I think that’s really important for a new reader to the genre as well as the season readers, because every book uses thes For any of you who follow my reviews regularly you will know that Kick-Ass women are a big yes when it comes to the kind of book I will pick up! Add the werewolf dynamic with that hint of magic and I had to give this book a try! Because I have read so many of these I was really glad for the opening section really laying out what Myths were going be relevant within this world. I think that’s really important for a new reader to the genre as well as the season readers, because every book uses these myths in slightly different ways. For example some books silver is the Kryptonite to werewolves, in others it’s a ploy to keep the humans in the dark, it can vary so much!

This is Heather’s debut novel and her writing style just gets better and better, the improvement from the first couple of chapters to the final chapters was fabulous in my opinion, so excited to see it continue to develop! This book for me I think was about our main character. At its core this book is a romance although there are prophetic dreams, and old enemies outside threats and new friends to be made. For me this book was all about Amelia and Gabriel and closer to the end, some of the secondary characters.

Amelia is quite a complex character and I loved her and felt I would relate to her. In some ways you see her emotional vulnerability, in other ways she is this Kick-Ass independent woman. It is the merging of these two sides of her character and made her feel real for me, Kick-Ass independent women aren’t emotionless or unfeeling and Amelia shows this really well in this book. You’re in her head so you get to see her inner turmoil her struggles and then you get to see her go and kick some butt!

Now Gabriel, I struggled with him and is one of the reasons why I put my rating down slightly. It is harder because we aren’t in his head for a lot of this book, so we don’t get the same insight as we do with Amelia‘s character. But equally in the first half of this book he was a bit of an arse, he solved all of his issues and arguments with Amelia basically by kissing her and pushing the physical relationship above the emotional one. Which I get is part of the whole fated mates trope, but he didn’t even try to have a proper conversation or get to know Amelia for quite a while. He did grow on me in the second half and by the end I do love them as a couple but the first half he annoyed me. It’s all things Amelia herself picks up on and I’m glad that she does recognise that this isn’t a good start to relationship and she puts the effort in and addresses it within the book.

There is also some great secondary characters, specifically Chris! Initially he is a great friend he breaks a lot of tension brings that humour into the situations and he really grows into his friendship role and really cares and looks out for Amelia.

The plot itself wasn’t overly unique for me (but this is the type of storyline I like so I can’t complain too much) until near the end, and boy what an ending! I need book two! Overall I would give this book between 3.5 and 4 stars 🌟

Full Review:

I loved the main character Amelia, compared to all the other characters within the book. As she was the main character, she was the most well rounded and fully fleshed out character. However, there was also parts of her that I didn't care for either, such as she didn't truly fight with her love interest for what she wanted and instead, each scene would turn into a sex scene. I felt like that would show a negative kind of mindset.

Another main character that is mentioned within the synopsis would be Gabriel, the love interest of Amelia. While I understood what the author was trying to do with the character, I don't think she fully hit all the marks. While he was understanding of situations he also was completely backwards in some moments. Such as when Amelia was fighting to make sure that all the other females within the group would be able to fight, Gabriel agreed even though he was a major cause of them not fighting to begin with.

The general plot was okay, not great but okay. Please note that this was a Wattpad story turned Novel and if you have read werewolf fanfictions on there than you would also get the same notes within the story. While there was a good plot created, it was very similar to other stories and in terms of the writing, there is stories within the same categories which are better. It was very cliché yet fun to a degree.

In terms of the sex scenes, I understood why the author would want to put it down. Maybe to make it different or to go towards more of a romantic genre. Nevertheless, a lot of scenes happened that were not needed and even didn't make sense in terms of the plot. For the ending to make sense there would have needed to be one or two good sex scenes compared to six mediocre sex scenes within the book.

In terms of the rating I would score this a 2 stars. The reason as to why would be because I have read a lot of similar stories that can be from the same type of genre, and while this was good it would've made more sense to stay a wattpad story or to be a more, complex and well-developed story with scenes taken out and new ones added to make sense. If I had not read stories similar to this I would rate it a 3 stars. However; if you don't want to spend money on this book I would recommend just looking on wattpad or any other fanfiction website, for a parallel plot. ...more
