Joi never cared for the white horse and a carriage or the storybook romance. She never had a love to pine for or had a man give her butterflies when he looked at her. Joi has never really believed in love... until now. Joi Friday is a woman in search of security and couldn't care less whose toes she has to step on to get it. This carelessness lands her in an arrangement that delivers more grief than the bliss she believed she'd receive when she initially agreed to its "terms." She's always considered herself to be the loveless type. Sex was a thing to use and feelings were there to toy with. And love? Well, love to Joi has always been a mystery described in fairy tales she's yet to star in. That's until she meets Detective Jeremiah Rhames. He’s loyal, protective, honest and has the patience and discipline to capture her heart while sweeping her off her feet unexpectedly. To her surprise, he's opened to the one thing she's shunned for as long as she can remember… love. Jeremiah has all the qualities Joi has never believed she desired, but that she craves. And unlike any other man she's ever dealt with, Jeremiah is offering himself to her with no hidden agenda. The catch? She must give up the life she's living to commit to a future that'll feed her soul. Will she stick with a life that is draining her but offers the easy financial security she’s been after all her life or will she give it all up to be with a man who offers a love that is life-giving and makes each day worth living twice? *This book contains sexually explicit content. Brookelyn wrote her first short story when she was a sophomore in high school. Back then she discovered how using her experience as a teen living in Brooklyn to create romantic shorts was just as exciting to her as retail shopping and going on dates. After starting her first semester of college two years later, Brookelyn’s creative writing became more of a hobby and something to do to escape the stress of midterms and finals. Now in her 30s as a freelance writer, penning short stories and novellas is her everything. While her experience with writing has evolved for the better, her undying love for creating fiction remains unchanged. Brookelyn's focus is on creating contemporary women's fiction with characters based in urban settings. Her stories chronicles the emotional journeys and erotic experiences of women today through her characters and the scenarios they're thrown into.
The motivation behind her brand of writing has a lot to do with what she discovered storytelling provided for her - an escape. Her goal with her work is to create characters and urban worlds that offer a great escape for fiction readers looking for a break from the daily grind of adulting and who prefer to relax with good books and short stories. When she’s not freelancing, doing yoga, or showing her husband and toddler lots of love, she can be found sitting at her computer desk, with her legs folded, and a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine) at arm’s reach as she types or edits her latest short or novella.
I loved it. I could relate so much to this young lady She wanted the material and the physical things to make up for the love she never knew and when she found out what she was missing.... oh that was a whole other addiction. Excellent story!!!
I Am Changing...I've Changed My Life And Nothing Is Gonna Stop Me Now
I didn't want to like Joi but she kind of grew on me because I understood her situation that started when she was just a child using her body to get materialistic things and her mother choosing her abuser over her. I like how Jeremiah took his time dating her to getting to know her on mental, spiritual, and emotional levels before getting physical with her. I knew that Malik had the door man keeping tabs on Joi and she should've reported him. Jeremiah showed Joi her worth and brought light into her heart to remove the darkness that Malik constantly put there. I love the update on Manny and Lila and how motherhood has brought out a softer side of Lila. I'm always going to be #TeamMello but I'm glad that Jeremiah survived to nurture Joi into maturity and give her firsts and love that she never had before. Zoe was a real good friend to Joi and gave her good advice that she needed to take herself. I wanted to know at the 1yr later if Zoe and Rocco were still together though. I like that Jeremiah took Joi in and started over from the beginning so they both could focus on their own goals while building a solid foundation together. I started off not liking Joi but she redeemed himself in the end. Joi really got a reality check when she called Kamilah and was told that she wasn't Malik's first affair but his cheapest...The way that he treated her from the beginning. I was curious about the outcome of what happened with Malik and Kamilah but she seems like the type to be content with his cheating as long as they appear to be happy in love so their outcome wasn't really needed. I kind of want to read about Jeremiah and Joi again in another book to see her in a mothering pregnant role or with a kid. I want everyone having babies😂😂😆😆🤣🤣 I like how Joi invested herself to helping Jeremiah with his dream coming into fruition especially since he invested into her from the moment that they met. I can't wait to read what's up next in this series.
What an amazing journey you took us on with this one! Joi! I didn't want to like her at first, she was so shallow and materialistic; using what she got to get what she wants! Then you came to see that she was using her body, as a substitute for the love she never received growing up. Now, my heart goes out to her. Malik was just straight trash! Jeremiah, was every woman's dream! Handsome, smart, assertive and cared about people and his community. He was completely blown by Joi's beauty when he met her, but knew that she was trouble. Joi couldn't understand Jeremiah, as he was so different from any other man that she had ever met. He would take his time with her, as she deserved the love he knew she lacked. She thought, what is his angle? Why isn't he trying to put the moves on me? She was so intrigued that she had to take a chance and see what he was about. Being loved on changed Joi's entire outlook on life and love. Although she had to be broken all the way down, her come up was worth the sacrifice! So enjoyed this read! Great job! 👍👍👍
So when this book first started I did not like Joi because she knew what she was doing with Malik was wrong and she didn't like how she felt afterwards but she did it anyway. However, after reading how she got started using her sexuality to get what she wanted I understood her character more and felt bad for her in a way because she did not understand or appreciate her worth. Once Jeremiah came around and showed her how she should be treated what it meant to be loved she started coming around and her friend Zoe was a great friend with great advice for her. I was happy she opened herself up to being loved and treated in a positive manner and Jeremiah was able to get past her indiscretions with Malik. I enjoyed the way this story came together and I would recommend going into it without judgment but more understanding.
The book was okay. I wish there was a bit more depth between Jeremiah and Joi. They had great chemistry and attraction, but I don't think they had enough in-depth conversations to truly create the full story. There was a lot of sex (I skipped a lot of it)... but I think that is stated before the introduction. I also wish there was a journey of a few chapters to recognize Joi's comeback and a few chapters dedicated to Jeremiah's "hero complex." The book was okay because I think there were some parts that just got overlooked that I think the author could have expanded more on. Overall, the author is a good writer. I felt like I was in the story, and that was nice.
I believe I am Brookelyn's biggest fan and she continues to prove why she's my favorite. She writes love stories from complex characters. In Forbidden, I had to admit, Joi wasn't my favorite character. But Loveless has changed my mind about her. I loved watching her grow and I loved how Jeremiah loved her. He showed her something different, something she didn't know she needed.
That phrase right there describes Joi...at least until she meets one Detective Jeremiah Rhames. Sometimes you have to be exposed to a good thing, in order to realize you're not good at all! And in this story, the detective was just that thing Joi needed to overcome her toxic upbringing. I'm still not sure if she won me over, but it was a great start!
As always my author came thur I didn't expect this ...I was so surprised that Joi would allow Malik to treat her so bad, that why we have to know our self worth. So went someone good comes along we don't understand why they really want to know us, cause we devalue ourselves ....love this story
I think Joi was my favorite because she truly was a butterfly coming out of its cocoon! She really didn’t know her worth all she needed was a real nan to come through and show her she was more than what she thought she was!! J&J forever!! Y’all better stop sleeping on Mrs. Mosley cause she be bringing the heat!!
It started out so slow I almost didn’t want to finish, yet I kept going and boy did I enjoy. Some stories don’t need all the extra wording or BS to get the point across with little life lessons sprinkled in. Straight no chaser and swoon worthy. First time reading from this author, I will be reading others.
Interesting read. Jeremiah was a great guy. It sucked that Joi had nothing to show for herself after that situation with Malik. I wish Joi came face to face with her friend again so we can fins out where she ended up. My only confusion in this book was "bun ponytail". What is that?
Initially I dislike Joi but once we understand the traumas in her childhood, we understood her behavior. Jeremiah was one of my favorite heroes. I loved how Jeremiah gave back to the community and his treatment of Joi. His date ideas were swoon worthy. Joi was lucky to have someone like him in her life
This book was was absolutely adorable! I’m glad that Joi was able to find her worth and Jeremiah helping her learn about love. I adored how he courted and to was cute how they kept running into each other. We love a supporting bestie cause Zoe had to get her together. I can’t wait to read the little follow up on them.
Loveless was definitely something different and not your typical romance. For some, it may be unpalatable or take a bit for you to wrap your head around, but this was a good story! I applaud Mosley because it would have been easy not to like Joi, but the opposite was true for me. Jeremiah was just what she needed, again, something different.
