I just finished this lovely book and feel richer for it. Meticulously researched and deeply felt, THE FIELD HOUSE is a compelling hybrid of biography and memoir. An exploration of the life and legacy of novelist-poet Rachel Field, it is interwoven with personal reflections that reveal the influence of Field’s work ethic and passion on the biographer’s life. As the book's author, my review is clearly suspect. However, I will say that on rereading it beginning to end one more time, I remain quite proud and happy with the story, especially the last hundred pages where the book picks up steam and reads with great urgency. If others leave intrigued and delighted by Rachel Field, as I am, I'll consider it a success. Rachel, I hope I've done you proud.
