I opened this book at just the right time, for me. It allowed me to curiously allow parts of myself to immerge that I had yearned to retrieve. The descriptions and stories reignited something core within me, validated my intuitions and emphasized that there was "nothing wrong with me." My heightened energetic sensitivities were/are indeed a gift. I am truly grateful for my experience with this book.

Last night, at Barnes and Noble, I sat reading this book and wanted to buy it. Of all the books I carried over to the big comfy chair to peruse, this one called to me. It really resonated with me. Yes, I reminded myself, I had only come in to browse, not to buy, but I caved in! Brand new, full price and without having read other reviews online, I walked out with it. I'm glad I did though. I couldn't put it down.

The book is very well-written, understandable and the information is personally helpful. Chapters one and two contain the best description of the transition from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius that I've ever read, while also defining what an Indigo Soul is (thus named because there is a great deal of the color indigo in the aura of certain souls, due to a more open, active Third Eye Chakra, which indicates an analytic mind and increased intuitive gifts), why we've chosen to incarnate now and what the effects are upon Indigos in this cusp period. The entire book seeks to help Indigos understand what is going on and what to do to make the most of our gifts, not only for personal fulfillment but also so we may be most effective in our soul's purpose this incarnation. An Indigo Soul may also be termed an Aquarian Soul as we have chosen to help usher in the Age of Aquarius. The term, Light Worker, was also used a time or two as well.

Most of the chapters end with a short question and answer section, taken from lectures given by the authors. The Appendix is a quiz the reader may take to determine if they are an Indigo Soul and the book ends with a helpful index.

I feel the authors are intelligent, sincere and really know their subject. The information in this book answered some of the inner questions I've lived with all my life, affirmed my self-esteem and also gave me some new avenues to search down for more information, such as the books by Alice Bailey and the Indian mystic, OSHO. I only wish the book would have contained a bibliography, most especially because I felt that any book these authors recommended would be a book worth reading, not some bunch of rubbish that some New Age books seem to me to be.

I've had this book for years, I originally picked it up because I answered yes to every question in the quiz asking if you are an indigo adult. Everything in this book resonated with me: I'm a rebel, I sniff out truth, I'm real and literal, I'm highly sensitive to energy, I have a collective conscience mentality towards humanity, if there's any sort of bug or wasp in my house I gently take it outside instead of killing it, etc.

The biggest take away for me as of recent is embracing that I need to DO something with my indigo energy, rather than being beat down by the meanness and betrayals of the world. This book has made it ultra clear to me about being hyper aware of the people I'm dealing with, especially those close to my heart. This has been a tough lesson for my sweet, trusting yet naive indigo soul. This problem is typical with indigos, and I'm grateful for the authors giving us tools to overcome these harsh realities of dealing with humans on Earth.

This was an excellent, well laid out and highly informative book! As an Adult Indigo and one of the earlier ones being born in the 60's my Journey on this Planet has been intense, intriguing and challenging. It was affirming to know that most of us Indigos are experiencing similar issues and most importantly understanding why I/we feel so 'different' and so 'out of the box' compared to the majority of people in the World at present who are still living with the old Piscean Energies while Indigos are already operating predominantly on the Aquarian Energies of this newest Planetary Initiation. The whole idea of the 5th Initiation that is being undergone on Earth was extremely enlightening. My one tiny criticism was the book ended in a manner that felt abrupt. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is an Indigo and or lives with an Indigo and wants to understand them better.

I picket up this book by chance, but it was not a coincidence. I picked it up at just the right time in my spiritual journey. I needed to hear its messages. Everything in this book resonated with me and my experiences with spirituality. It made me understand that I wasn’t wierd, that I need not isolate myself, because I am part of something bigger than myself. It helped me understand what it is to be an indigo and that my empath abilities not to be feared or a reason for seperation amongst others that I do not relate to. It helped me understand that I didn’t need to fear the shift change of the new age I heard about before reading this book. We must all ride the wave.

I read this book and got curious. Does everyone who reads this book find it relatable to themselves? Maybe, it was so psychologically designed that if you picked this book at a phase of life you are pretty much relating to the facts given there. I am just curious and open to thoughts here.

The book begins by explaining some basic background in astrology to understand how it relates to the idea of Indigo Souls. Throughout the year, we have the 12 phases of the Zodiac starting with Aries and ending with Pisces. There is also a greater cycle called a Great Year which takes around 25,920 years. There are also cycles within cycles above that. These larger phases take around 2160 years to complete. The current age is the Age of Pisces with its own energetic quality emanating from the center of the galaxy and affecting human behavior, thoughts, and emotions. The age of Aquarius began entering around the 1700s with December 21st marking the zenith where the two phases intersect and the new age begins to take over. December 21st marks this new phase of our galactic cycle around the Milky Way, and there are souls and soul groups associated with the Age of Aquarius incarnating to accompany it. These are your Indigo children or adults. The term "Indigo Children" was coined after a clairvoyant saw an Indigo colored aura around one of these souls.

The authors explain how these different galactic cycles have their own characteristics which affect human behavior, thoughts, and emotions. They use the analogy of the cycles of the moon. During a full moon the tides are high. It is also associated with restlessness among individuals. Furthermore, scientific studies have shown higher rates of suicide have been linked to phases of the moon, particularly during a new moon or a full moon. The word "lunatic" is derived from the Latin word "luna" meaning "moon" after all. The phases of the Great Year are characterized by their own 'mood' which affect us collectively in a similar way. Aquarius is characterized by understanding, group consciousness, individuality and intellectual understanding. This new energy works primarily through the crown chakra bringing forth new aptitudes of intelligence:

"Indigo energies and Indigo Souls began coming onto the planet around the early 1700s. These early incarnators have the toughest job of “breaking the ice” and bringing in the first of the new energies. They have ushered in the Industrial Revolution, electricity, scientific thought, and the new ideals of liberty and freedom." (p. 22)

"The Industrial Revolution, then the discovery of electricity (electricity is ruled by the sign of Aquarius), and now the emergence of the Information Age are the result of the new capacities of intelligent thought that are emerging through our third eye." (p.18)

Indigo Souls have some of the following characteristics: rebellious to current society and its institutions; gentle and respectful by nature to avoid conflict; a division between what they say and do on the outside between what they think and feel on the inside; a sense there is a better, freer, more liberating way to live life; can detect when people are lying and can sense their true emotions; have a passion for truth providing food for the soul; realize they live in a world full of deception and lies; acknowledge they are spiritual beings but are not religious; an innate desire to grow spiritually and to make the most of their time on earth; often scared to speak their truth for fear of being ridiculed; heightened sensitivity and more tuned into to the energies around them; see everything as interconnected and as one; very conscious not to harm other people, plants, or animals; very sensitive when it comes to relationships in fear of being hurt; tuned in to a deeper meaning of life and want to know their purpose for being here.

Souls or soul groups associated with the Aquarian Age are not better than any other soul or soul group associated with another age. Strictly speaking, there is no superiority in spiritual terms; we are all interconnected spiritual beings on our journey back to Source taking our own paths:

"[Q] What makes one person an Indigo Soul and another person not an Indigo Soul? How do these differences come about?

[A} The Earth is like a train station, and the trains coming in are filled with souls coming from different dimensions, different soul groups, different evolutionary streams, and different sources in the Cosmos. So just as in the train station, a certain train comes at a certain time and has a certain scheduling; a certain group of souls have a certain scheduling as to when they are to arrive. That scheduling is based on great cosmic cycles—a kind of cosmic clock. These are cycles of astrology that slowly move and turn, opening certain gates in the Cosmos so that certain energy streams can flow. So when we talk about Indigo Souls I am referring to a cosmic picture of vast evolutionary celestial energies in motion according to these cosmic clocks." (p. 201)

Decent book, easy to read, and may resonate strongly with some of you awakened souls out there.

3.5 stars? 4 stars? I'm pretty conflicted about what to rate it.

I wanted a more in depth explanation of the why and the how and the bigger picture for everything because I have a lot of questions. This book explained the why and the bigger picture pretty well and sort of explained the how. There are not a lot of practical tips in the book though but I feel like that works for me because I am more the type that wants to understand every aspect first before deciding whether I want to jump in and look at practical tools and tips. However I think there could have been at least a few practical tips.

I wasn't a big fan of the writing style. It is not written in the most clear manner or at least not for me and my ADHD brain. There is also a big focus on relationships between men and women and on gender issues, which is not necessarily what I was looking for. I just felt like the book left me wanting more and left me still a bit confused.

This is perhaps nitpicky but I was also disappointed at the transhumanist agenda being pushed in this book. Saying that in the future we can just hook ourselves up to a machine or get a brain implant to help us become more spiritually enlightened.

"Imagine those beautiful moments that you touch so rarely, for example, through meditation. Imagine that those moments could become more regular and solid for you, just through a little adjustment or a little implant. That is what I believe we will develop."

"The future science will recognize the soul and we will develop machines to sense the soul as well as being able to sense it directly through our intuitive capacities, and the result will be that we are able to work more directly with the soul."

"The resultant technologies will open us up to levels of consciousness, joy, and living that we can only glimpse right now. I believe that we are beginning to enter a revolution in these areas."

1) Did Buddha have a brain implant? Did all the great enlightened beings of the world have an implant? No.
2)If we can just be hooked up to a computer or get an implant for this then why bother meditating or buying such books? we may as well just wait for the new implant to come out..

It’s important to note that Jaffe and Davidson do not at any point say that they are Indigos; rather, they are new age types who have held seminars aimed at Indigos. In fact, their book is a very good primer for someone who knows nothing about the Indigo phenomenon, and even for Indigos taking the first step on their journey of self-awareness.
I say “first step”, because their overview of astrology and the coming Aquarian Age is only somewhat useful. The authors have a lot of opinions that they try to pass off as fact, particularly about gender and their muddled conception of the future age, but they’re very careful to avoid mentioning God or anything absolute about good and evil.
The most irritating parts of the book are their “question and answer” sessions at the end of each chapter, which begin with a question but quickly turn into the “answerer” asking a question, which is then answered by the “questioner” stating how much she agrees with the authors. The dialogue sounds very contrived so as to make Jaffe and Davidson sound intelligent, but they are too bound by current cultural perceptions to be really helpful to true Indigos. Nevertheless, the book is a useful read as long as you compare what you read here with other sources.

This book is absolutely amazing.. I can't even put it into words how I feel.
For anyone who has spent their lives feeling out of place and been misunderstood, and who has felt like there is so much more that we are capable of that when spoken about you've been pushed down and sort of disregarded, You HAVE to read this book.
This has opened up my understanding of not just myself but of the universe as a whole. And how each of us fits in to the evolutionary plan of the entire universe. It is just mind blowing.
I love the way that Kabir and Ritama are able to break down such complex ideas and thoughts into easy to understand concepts and analogies.
This book has changed my thinking and I feel like I understand my purpose. Thank you so much for writing this book.

Found this book to be a fairly quick read, but not as helpful as I would have liked. I fit most all of the "signs" of being an indigo soul (as do my Mom and my daughter) but found little in the way of solid, helpful ideas of how to live my life more fully as an indigo in this book. Most of the book was question and answer with mostly vague ideas given. It was heavy on the esotericism but light on practical. I would have liked to see more solid information given regarding follow-up reading as well as practices and ideas of how to more fully integrate my indigo soul into my life. Seemed that the authors were heavy on good will toward indigos, light on practical assistance.

Whilst I enjoyed this book and it was a fairly easy read, I found myself getting a wee bit frustrated with it. Mainly because it seemed to be mostly "New Age" fluff but with very little substance and what substance there was, tended to be, for the most part, ill-informed or just plain ignorant science. eg the bit about first there was the plant kingdom and then the animal kingdom evolved from that.

Actually, I am quite sympathetic towards the viewpoint of Indigo people, but this book just didn't do the subject justice and left a lot of loop holes for the sceptics.

Very interesting perspective!!! Can’t even explain the depth of detail, you need to read for yourself. Probably one of my favorite books.

Example: humans overall “shift” every 2000 years and it matches with the zodiac calendar. We left the age of Pisces (symbol fish) (fish = Christianity). BC to 2000 it was all about religion and wars. We’re shifting now into the age of Aquarius, (intellectual/idealists) so now humans are shifting into an era of that symbol.

Like I said, hard to put into words. But if you read it you’ll understand. The book even shows timelines to better understanding.

I have felt disconnected from normal society since I can remember. always dubbed myself the outsider and the black sheep within my family. Since I bought this book last week I have not put it down and am reading it as carefully as I can. Taking notes, underlying sentences and paragraphs that speak to me. This book gave me that "ah ha" moment. Everything started making sense, my past, present, and future to come make more sense. This is one book I will cherish forever!!!

A little outdated (published in 2009 so it talks about the occurrences of 2012) but spiritually speaking, still poignant. A good book to describe what's happening in the world and why men have such a hard time with emotions and women tend to have a hard time being more assertive - and why culture plays a big part in both of these ideals. Things are changing, and this book explains why it is happening and why it should.

I was impatient with the initial chapter on astrology but I am glad the author said to stick with it because it would put what follows into perspective. It did. -) That said the "good stuff" starts at about page 53. Overall, I found it a very interesting read. It connected a few puzzle pieces for me and gave me lots of interesting perspectives to consider. One other thing I really liked is that it kept the tone "spiritual" and not "religious".

There were some very interesting ideas in this book. It seems a little western-European and American-centric, though. I'd be interested to learn more, because maybe it isn't but it does seem to privilege the perspective of "westerners". I also hoped it would resonate more. Maybe I'm not ready for it or maybe it just ain't for me. Either way, I like thinking about the unseen parts of the world and appreciate my friend who gave me this book.

While the book had some very good merits, and I appreciated the viewpoints of the author (there was some information in there that explained a lot of what I’ve experienced over the years of my life), the layout of the book made it seem to contradict itself in various areas, and some of the subject matter presented seemed to have little to do with being an Indigo.
