He was supposed to be my first kiss. My first love. My first everything…
There are moments in our lives that define us.
For Brooklyn Tanner, it’s the summer before her junior year of high school. The summer boys finally begin to notice her. The summer he finally begins to notice her.
Andrew Brinks. Handsome. Popular. Star hockey player. Her best friend’s brother.
For one summer, she’s happy, carefree, and convinced she’ll finally experience what she’s been dreaming about for years…her first kiss.
But just like everything else in her life, it comes at a price she may not be ready to pay.
T.K. Leigh, otherwise known as Tracy Leigh Kellam, is the USA Today Bestselling author of the Beautiful Mess series, in addition to several other works. Originally from New England, she now resides outside of Raleigh with her husband, beautiful daughter, three cats, and special needs rescue dog.
When she’s not writing she can be found training for her next marathon (of which she has run over twenty fulls and far too many halfs to recall), having impromptu dance parties with her daughter, or planning her next trip to parts unknown.
Holy sweet angst! The chemistry between Drew and Brooklyn ignites so much angst and tension you can feel it. This is a great prequel to their story. 5 Delicious Stars!
Wow! I love Brooklyn and Drew. I can't wait to read their story. My heart breaks for Brooklyn because she doesn't believe she is good enough to love. Boy is she wrong but, unfortunately she will never know. Drew has to leave for college on the day he wants to declare his love for her. What will happen to Brooklyn? Guess we will have to wait for Commitment!

Promise is an extended prologue to T.K. Leigh's highly anticipated Redemption Series
There is something so special about young love. The innocence. The idea of forever. The first touch. The hand holding. The first kiss. The Promise of forever.
I loved this story, because who does not want to know the beginning of a love affair? Who does not want to connect with characters that have met before, and who doesn't want to read the five-star words of T.k. Leigh? I did and you should.
OMG Brooklyn and Drew. What did you do to me? And this is only the prequel to Brooklyn and Drew's story. I very much hope that I do not have to wait for much longer. You tore my heart, how can we not understand what both of them are going through. And Brooklyn, my heart was crushed with the knowledge that she thought she was just some kind of late-summer rebound. Drew, broke my heart the way he broke her heart. And like the name of the book I hope that the promise will indeed do exist.
Commitment takes place after PROMISE which is the first book in the series, a Prequel to Redemption-
Fantastic book. It took my breath away. What do you do when you still love your best friends brother? But find someone else that treats you like a queen? Wes is a wonderful man. He shocks her one night, and she isn’t quite sure what to do. Drew will forever be in her heart, but he broke it. She won’t wait around for him. She needs to move on. He was supposed to be her first for everything. The only thing he was first in was her first kiss. It was the most memorable of her life.
I absolutely loved reading this prequel to Brooklyn and Drew's story. When I read Writing Mr. Right, it was obvious that there was some type of history between these two, other than their connection to Molly.
I am such an immersive reader, I love getting every little tidbit of information I can about a couple when I'm reading their story. I am so, so happy that T.K. decided to write the "beginning" of Brooklyn and Drew, showing us what they were like as teenagers and what the backstory is before we dive into present day in book 1 of their story, Commitment.
Now that I know what happened when they were teenagers, I am even more excited to see these two around each other. I didn't pay much attention to their dynamic in Writing Mr. Right, I just acknowledged how they were associated to Molly. But now I want to go back and read all the parts that they showed up in that book!
If you are like me, OCD about reading things in order and/or wanting to know everything about a character, I highly encourage you to read this prequel now before book 1 releases later this month. T.K. is such a masterful storyteller, I felt every emotion that Brooklyn was going through, and it made me think back to my own teen years and the drama and angst I felt when it came to guys.
Reading Promise has ramped up my excitement for Brooklyn and Drew's story. I can't wait to read it!
I am so thankful that the prequel came before the series. Many times authors go back after a series is written and write a prequel. It annoys me, and most times I won't read them when I have already read the series.
This is a great look at what is possibly to come in this series. It set the series up extremely well. I am really looking forward to seeing what happens, I assume, in the future for these two.
This book is a little angsty and very sweet. The little peek into the past of these characters tells me I am probably in for a great ride once the other books come out!
Promise is a prequel novella to the Redemption Duet series. Promise introduces and gives us the back story of Brooklyn and Drew, the leads of Redemption Duet. 💎 For Drew, Brooklyn has always been just his Lil sister Molly's best friend. He saw her like a sister for as long as he can remember. They practically grew up together. Drew's and Molly's mother left them when they were very young and Brooklyn lost her mother to a car accident at a very young age too. They were brought up by their single fathers. The only maternal figure they had in their lives was Drew's and Molly's aunt, Gigi. Even though she wasn't related to Brooklyn she took her under her wings and loved her like her own child. 💎 During the summer after his graduation, Drew knew something felt different. He just couldn't see Brooklyn only as Molly's best friend anymore. He felt something more. Sure, she's 15 and her body is changing but that's just not it. He wants to be with her, he wants to kiss her, he is in love with her. But he's not sure if she feels the same way. 💎 For Brooklyn, there's always been only one guy in her mind, her best friend's brother, Drew. She's 15 and she has never kissed before. Thanks to Drew's brotherly protection no guy has ever tried to kiss her either. But she wants her first kiss to be with someone special, with Drew and she's not sure if he feels the same way. 💎 After some (interesting) teen drama, they are about to kiss but is interrupted by her overprotective father. (awkward😬). A month goes by. Drew is about to fly away to his college. On learning that Drew is spending his last night with another girl at the 'viewpoint' (you can guess what that means😉) Brooklyn goes on a path of self destruction (kinda). But she is saved in time by Drew. They open up and kiss. Obviously, after first kiss, it's first sex but Drew wants her to be sane. So he promises that he will come over to her house before he leaves the next day. 💎 The novella ends on a cliffhanger with Brooklyn waiting for her Drew and Brooklyn's overprotective father threatening Drew to never see her again. 💎 •What happened? •I'm not going to spoil it anymore for you. Just read it, it's only 100 pages and it's BEAU...utifulll😍 •You will love it.
Brooklyn Tanner is almost 16 years old and she wonders when she will ever get her first kiss. She has a crush on her best friend's older brother but with a very protective father she doesn't think this kiss will ever come.
Drew Brinks has graduated and will be heading to the University of Minnesota in the fall to play hockey. He is very protective over his sister Molly and Brooklyn but he is starting to see Brooklyn a new way.
As Brooklyn is ready for that first kiss will she catch the eye of Damian Murphy, one of the school's star athletes, or will she ever get Drew to see her differently? Will her dreams come true or will her father squash them all?
This is such a great beginning to the series and I am really looking forward to seeing where things go from here.
I really liked Brooklyn as I could understand why she was after the infamous first kiss but she was definitely putting herself in some difficult situations while trying to get it. I knew Damian wanted more than just a kiss but then I wasn't too sure what Andrew was after.
I found Andrew a little more confusing as it was obvious he did care about Brooklyn but because she was 15 he was also told to stay far away from her. I was mad at him for the scene at the movies with Mindy Jacobson.
I was a little frustrated at Brooklyn's dad as he wanted to protect her so much that it created problems for her as she started getting herself into certain situations and then I was definitely mad at him at the end with Andrew.
I felt so bad for Brooklyn at the end and I can't wait to see what happens next!
Brooklyn Tanner and Andrew Brinks are sorta like sister and brother, but don't tell Brooklyn that. Brooklyn has had a crush on Andrew her best friend Molly's big brother for a long time. When she hit high school she was tall but had never developed but her sophomore year she developed boobs and legs and had a hour glass figure that boys and men love. So when she is left alone by her best friend while she goes across to her father's place across from the beach she gets hit on by this guy named Damian Murphy. This isn't the first time she has been hit on since she has developed but she never got embarrassed the way she had by Andrew when he sees what Damian is doing and comes to her rescue. The thing is he has noticed Brooklyn but he feels he cannot act on it because he has known her since she was like five or something when her mother died and she started hanging out with his sister Molly. They have been best friends since they were in elementary school. This is the story of how Brooklyn's attraction to Andrew comes to a ending in the summer before she goes to her Junior year in High School and Andrew goes off to college and Junior Olympics. This is the way I remember the beginning of Commitment to be. I love Brooklyn and Andrew and their story is one of drama, lies and secrets. Get this book and then read Commitment and Redemption. Good duet but I don't expect anything different from T.K. Leigh she is a great author.
15 year old Brooklyn Tanner has been crushing on her best friend’s older brother, Drew, for years. Unfortunately, Drew has only ever seen Brooklyn as a friend. That is, until the day that Drew finally notices that Brooklyn is no longer a little girl. Suddenly, Brooklyn finds herself on Drew’s radar. She just has to be patient and hope that Drew will finally make his move.
Handsome and popular, Andrew Brinks is a hockey star in the making. At 18, it’s his last summer before leaving for college, and he’s suddenly faced with an all-consuming desire for a girl who could very well become his ruin. Still, sometimes the draw to the forbidden is just too great to ignore. And though Drew might be willing to take that risk, circumstances dictate that the choice is no longer his to make.
In this prequel to author T.K. Leigh’s soon-to-be-released Redemption Series, readers are treated to a brief glimpse into the backstory behind Brooklyn and Drew’s early romance and ultimate heartbreak. Though they never quite made the physical leap from friends to lovers, in their hearts, their connection ran deep. Were it not for a series of bad choices and the interference of others, Brooklyn and Drew might have had the chance to fully explore their growing passion. Instead, their chance at love was ripped from their grasp, and their futures were set to sail on different paths.
I loved this sneak peek into Brooklyn and Drew’s beginning and can only imagine what the future for this couple will ultimately hold. With the stage now set, I’m literally chomping at the bit to get more of Brooklyn and Drew’s continuing saga. Thankfully, the wait is almost over.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book.
I am SO happy that this prologue was written. It’s such a great insight into Drew and Brooklyn’s story. What a sweet story of young love.
Brooklyn has been in love with her best friend Molly’s older brother for years. She’s been waiting to kiss someone special. Her first kiss should mean something and should be shared with someone like Drew. She’s dreamed about it. But Drew is out of her league. He’s the popular, handsome hockey player who can have any girl he wants. And he’ll be leaving for college soon.
Drew and Brooklyn practically grew up together and he’s always seen her as his sister’s best friend, kind of like another sister, until the summer before he goes off to college. His sister’s little friend is not so little anymore. She’s turning into quite a beautiful young woman. He’s been warned off her because she’s only fifteen but the heart wants what the heart wants.
The twists and turns that keep these two apart made my heart sad because they not only do they have so much chemisty but they also genuinely get along. I can’t wait to read more.

Brooklyn and Molly are best friends and they have both grown up without mother’s. Brooklyn’s mom died in an car accident and Molly’s mom walked out on her family. There is one secret between these two best friends, and that’s Brooklyn has a crush on Andrew Brinks, Molly’s big brother. Andrew “Drew” is the star hockey player from his high school and in the city. He is off to college in the fall and he will miss his family and his secret crush. Brooklyn. He’s very protective of Brooklyn since she’s grown up and out. He sees and hears what all the boys are saying. She’s hot, and doesn’t even know it. The more time that he spends with her the more he just knows that she’s the one. The only problem is Brooklyn has a very over protective father. On the day before he is to leave for college they make plans to spend some time together and Brooklyn’s father finds out and threatens Drew. So he leaves without seeing her or even a phone call. She’s left heartbroken. This is the beginning to a wonderful series. T.K. Leigh is a wonderful writer and never disappoints. A must read.
The title says it all. This promises to be amazing if the novella is anything to go by. Brooklyn is Drew's sister's best friend. But only recently has he looked at her differently. Before she was too young but now it's like a transformation and his eyes are wide open and sees her as someone he can have for his own. But now he is leaving for college. He realizes all the wasted time he spent keeping away from her but all it took was one kiss and he knew she had to be his. But is she still too young.
T K Leigh is such an amazing author and Promise is a story that will have you glued to each page. Her characters are wonderful, you feel as though you know them and they become a part of you. You feel what they feel. This novella gives you a background of what is to be in the series and has you craving the release of the next 2 books.
Promise by TK Leigh is the prequel to Drew and Brooklyn’s story. OMGGGGG after reading this I am even more excited to get my hands on Commitment! No matter what Ms Leigh writes, whether if it’s a novella or novel, I devour her words. She makes me feel so many emotions it’s incredible! Drew and Brooklyn have grown up together along with Drew’s sister Molly, who is Brooklyn’s best friend. Brooklyn is going to be 16 and is a romantic at heart. She wants her first kiss and she wants it with Drew. But there are a few problems- he’s older, he’s leaving for college and she has an overprotective dad...
I absolutely loved getting their backstory before Commitment came out. You will get some history of their relationship in Commitment but I highly recommend reading this beforehand! I already know that their full story is going to be phenomenal!!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. This is the Prequel to A Redemption Series and what a why to start a new series. Drew has just graduated high school and headed to college on a hockey scholarship. He just has to get through this summer and try to keep his hands off his little sisters best friend. Brooklyn has been in love with her best friend's brother for as long as she can remember but she's too young for him to notice her. Her overly protective dad finally let's her go to a party where she decides to let loose alittle. Only she drinks too much and thank goodness Drew comes to her rescue. I can't wait to see wait happens with these two. Hopefully we don't have to wait too long.
It has been a while since reading Writing Mr Right, so forgot all about Brooklyn, Drew and Molly.
Brooklyn and Molly are best friends at high school, Drew being Molly's older brother. Drew is very protective of both girls in a big brotherly way. This summer was different as although Brooklyn had secretly loved Drew all this time, he never thought of her that way, until now. When Drew sees guy hitting on Brooklyn too hard he decides to defend her honour by breaking his nose!
This is when he realises that he feels different, but as she's only 15 and he's now 18 and going off to college can anything ever come of their relationship?
Full of angst and worrying about how everyone and everything is perceived. Can't wait for the full series!
I was intrigued by Brooklyn and Drew in T.K.’s book, Writing Mr. Right. So, I was excited to learn that she was giving them their own story. Not just one book, but two plus a prequel!
Promise is the prequel to Brooklyn and Drew’s story. The events take place when they are teens/young adults and explains the past these two characters have. After reading this novella, I am excited and eager to get into reading the duet that tells their current story. I already have feelings about them just from this read.
If your next read is going to be Commitment, the first book in the Redemption Series, then please pick up Promise first! This backstory is amazing!
Brook is a carefree nerdy teenager who is dealing with her body changes and the impending summer activities. Her best friend's brother is someone she's always thought would be a great first kiss. She's always felt invisible and like the last choice.
When opportunity knocks, she answers. When Drew ignores her and goes off with another girl, she feels rejected. So, she goes to a party where she proceeds to make a big mistake.
Drew saves her from major embarrassment and kisses her. A real bone-deep kiss. He promises to be her first the next morning before flying out or college. But, he never shows up and she has no idea the reasons. In her mind, he shoved her off and got what he wanted.
