She was the hunter. Now, she's the prey.

Detective Rainey Astor has run headfirst into danger for as long as she can remember. Her trip to Salem was no different, and although she and Elijah are back in Billings, nothing could have prepared them for the repercussions they will face upon their return home.

Determined to get back to normal despite the fact that everything's changed, Rainey dives back into work at the same time bodies of dead witches start popping up all over town. Their ritualistic style murders scream sacrifice, but there's something darker at work, something far more sinister than Rainey or Elijah could have anticipated.

As someone begins beckoning to Rainey from the shadows, drawing her closer and closer into their web, she unearths a horrible truth that will alter her irrevocably. And soon she will discover, not even Elijah can shield her from what's to come.

Picking up from Blood Hunt's explosive cliffhanger ending, Blood Captive turns the tables for Rainey and Elijah as they go from being the hunters to the hunted.

This series is perfect for fans of J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood, Lynsay Sands Argeneau Novels, Linsey Hall’s Shadow Guild, L.J. Smith’s The Vampire Diaries, or the TV show The Originals.

USA Today Bestselling Author of steamy PNR and fantasy romance.

Ever since my grandmother first handed me a Nora Roberts novel, I KNEW I wanted to write romance.

I love love. Crave it. For me, genre doesn't matter as long as there is a beautifully epic love story woven into the storyline.

Which is exactly why I chose to write across so many genres. Paranormal, fantasy, contemporary, suspense...no matter which of my books you choose you always know what you're getting: a love story for the ages.

And before I was an author, I was a reader! Please be sure to follow me here, or add me as a friend! I love to connect!

Aaaa durun durun. Birde öldü bildiği aile üyeleri var...O kısıma değinirsem işin içinden çıkamam. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yine aksiyon vardı. Rainey sürekli bir saldırı altında. Başına konan ödül her gün artıyor.

Would have been a lot better if all the beautiful women from Elijah's past didn't keep popping up everywhere, including "the love of his life"🙄. Also, the ending sorta pissed me of. How did Elijah not know it wasn't Rainey?? Heather is right, if he truly loved her, he should have known something was wrong, and now him basically cheating is going to be stuck in my head the whole next book. Ugh.

This is book 2 and picks up where Blood Hunt left off. Rainey and Elijah are great, I love reading these guys. The story is gripping and easy to get lost in. Action packed, dark and steamy. This series is a fast favorite of mine and I need more.

Super action packed, but in the first book I found Rainey to be bad ass and strong with a touch of quirky. This second book she seemed a little weak to me, and her quirk for loving skittles went from being cute to utterly annoying and mentioned wayyyyy to much. Loving the crazy ending and I do plan to continue onto the next book.

New author for me. Yay - for a late 30's kick-butt FMC! Boo - when she acts like an immature child. Story is well-written and action-packed. Not as much action and violence as book 1. There's a lot going on in this story so it can get a little complicated. So far, this series is more action than romance - still a great read. Must read books in order.

This is a brilliant fantasy/paranormal series with a complicated plot so pay attention. The author catches your attention and keeps it throughout, I found myself truly invested in these characters and their fight to do what is right but not lose each other in the process.
This book continues where book 1 finished and if you have a problem with cliffhangers you are going to have a problem with this series.
Well written, engaging and exciting trilogy that I would recommend to any fan of this genre.

This was a good second book.

I sort of wish Elijah and Rainey's relationship was a bit more slow burn. I liked the pace on it in the first, but they've jumped pretty quickly into a relationship with one another, so a lot of that great tension is gone.

This is a good old school urban fantasy though that I am enjoying.

This is book two of the Vampire Huntress Chronicles and sees Detective and last of a line of Hunters Rainey Astor, and Vampire Elijah Hawthorne as they return from her grandmother’s wreck of a home in Salem. They have brought a very old wooden box back with them, but Rainey opened it briefly while they were there and is now hearing voices telling her things and trying to get her to join them. She puts it all down to tiredness after such an eventful few days, but a darkness was unleashed and has filled a void with her, between Hunter and Witch. Something is coming and there is a huge price on both their heads, seemingly from the Immortal Council, who are in ultimate charge above the three other factions, vampire, witch and shifter councils. Her usual conduct of running straight into dangerous situations without any planning or thought, may have finally caught her out! The two of them are increasing their bonds between themselves and a proper relationship, but if others find out about this, they will be targeted.

When she returns to work, hoping things may get back to normal, her first case with her partner Ramirez is that of a witch who has been drained of her magic. This is only the first of many witches being killed in a ritualistic manner and those with active magic, are being drained and anyone else in the vicinity are also being killed. It is all linked to something deadly that her sister, Delaney, discovered before her death, but had kept from Rainey and her other friends. A darkness is coming and Rainey is at the centre of it all. Some of them will not survive what is coming. Elijah calls in help from old and trusted contacts, after finding nothing in his own library to help them with the event said to be coming on All Hallow’s Eve. They find the first ever witch has been locked away for centuries, but opening the box has released souls tainted with dark magic into the world. There are some huge secrets revealed in this book about people around Rainey and massive shocks and repercussions from these. A powerful witch is draining others, building up her power, to bring darkness into the world, which will send all of the world, human and supernatural into a world of hurt.

Multiple voices are beckoning Rainey into the darkness that only she seems to be able to see or hear. Even Elijah cannot stop her being pulled into it. If she submits to these voices, one even masquerading as her dead sister, or allows herself to be pulled into the darkness, she may well be lost forever. Her date of birth as well as her being the last true and full blood Hunter from the very first Hunter, brings about a conflux of possible powers for her, most of which she has yet to realise or tap into. Everyone that she knows and loves are in danger from the dark soul targeting witches and ultimate world domination! Elijah has kept a couple of huge from Rainey, something they said they would never do to each other, and they may come back to bite him, once she discovers them. Another cliffhanger of an ending, as matters get to a tragic conclusion. The hunters have become the hunted and they are being hit from all sides. Nice to see Rainey and Elijah getting closer and there are some very explicit scenes in there, so be warned. Tales from the first of their kind, through to the discord between each faction of supernaturals, but also talk of some even higher up’s than the Immortal Council, who are targeting the pair. Lots more to be explained and a very dark situation to be worked through, to see who will survive, in the next book of the series! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Book 2 in this series, so I’d definitely read book 1 before this one. This one starts right where the other book left off.

Ahhh man!! I’m so angered by that ending! Too many secrets causing too many problems; withholding information is never a good idea. Plus, there’s a major cliffy. I’m just sad. And I’m so ticked at these characters and their dumb actions. Still a very entertaining book though! Love the passion and the deep connection between Rainey and Elijah. So sweet and sexy; some hot stuff! I was not a fan of some of Elijah’s past intruding into the present, and his idea of a good date place, but loved how protective he is of Rainey. Rainey is still kicking butt, but there’s a bit more weakness shown because of her kind heart; she doesn’t handle it very well when those she cares for are harmed. Still a tough lady though. In this book, there’s lots of witches being killed, and there’s still the mystery of the box; which was stupid to open in my opinion. Bad Rainey! I’m also not very trusting of what Delaney did, and for some reason I don’t trust Tarnley; not sure why, it’s probably nothing. Just too many characters thinking that withholding things is the way to go, but it’s just creating so many problems. There was just so much information given that the characters should’ve been able to handle things a whole lot better, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. I’m hoping the ending of this book will be turned around very quickly in the next book; I’m not a fan of suffering, and I hope the characters start handling things better and making better choices. Here’s hoping!! Super excited to read the next one!!!

I thought the ending to the first book what a complete shock, but nope… Jessica Wayne has officially topped it again. Her work is just truly incredible and the ending… WOW…. I have no words, I’m officially mad at how it ended, but I also want to know what is next in store for Elijah, he’s become such an intriguing character and I love the connection he has with Rainey. I’m honestly at a loss for words because so much happened in this book and I was gripped from the very start. I have no idea where Jessica comes up with these stories, but seriously they are just genius. I just loved everything about it, and honestly can’t find anything to fault with it. I swear with each book Jessica just gets even more talented.
Trust me when I say you’ll be hooked from the beginning, if you love vampires, hunters and a whole lot of mystery, then this is the perfect series.

Things are getting super strange for both Rainey and Elijah, and with them now back from Salem, things are just getting weirder and weirder. They’ve just given into their feelings for each other, but Rainey is scared that she’s about to lose him because all that the world seems to do is take away the people she loves. However, there’s a lot of secrets lurking about, waiting to be revealed… but will everything be as it seems and how will Elijah handle the changes that are happening with Rainey?? Will he be able to save her before it’s too late?

Holy hell wilber! Jessica hits the high road, blazing through on the wings of a flaming inferno, delivering up some cold hard facts, ruthless decisions and relentless drive, keeping you riveted and frozen to your seat, launching this jewel to staggering heights. One action packed, hard hitting, nailbiting, spine tingling, nerve racking, page flipping, jaw dropping, block buster, raising the stakes and keeping it real, wrapping this gem up sleek, shiny and tight. Mayhem runs rampant and chaos is rife, dissolved limitations and unbound restrictions are strengthened and amplified, baring the dubious quirks and defying bents, thrusting this bad boy into the eye of the storm, slamming it into a tailspin with life changing impacts. The characters, banter, dialogue, interactions and charged atmosphere along with relatable qualities and individual traits, blend and flow adding depth and diversity, transforming into approachable personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and graphic descriptions creating an elaborate backdrop that feels as though you were transported to ground zero with them. Remarkable job Jessica, thanks for sharing this amazing thrill with us.

Gripping, haunting and addictive!

4.5 ⭐️
This book/series would be the perfect read for Halloween as I am unravelling the plot twists and turns! Fits in with the spooky season so well.

After Rainey and Elijah’s trip to Salem in the first book, it’s honestly been disaster, followed by gut wrenching news, followed by an attempt on Rainey’s life. This is a dark and emotional read, full of haunting, magic and supernatural violence.

We were taken on a journey, learning more about the history of the supernatural world and specifically how each race/species was formed to try and make sense of what the Lunar Divide is and how it impacts Rainey and the countless witches who were hunted throughout the years for having a DOB in common every 19 years.

Again, I love Rainey being both a supernatural Hunter and a detective in the human world as it took this series to a new level of action and engagement for me.

I’m really enjoying the writing style and the characters being older (30s) than what I usually read; there’s so much action that there’s no time for petty drama as such which is awesome!

Super worried for what the next book holds after that ending but also looking forward to how Jessica ends this!

First off I loved it. This is book 2 of 3 and though I knew I would have to wait for book 3, I still got sucked in!

Blood Captive starts right where Blood Hunt ends, so if you felt a loss that Rainey and Elijah finally became like two magnets that flip and stop repelling each other, you’ll appreciate the start of the book.

Right away they start working on the mystery of the Lunar Divide and why Delaney left them that file. As Rainey starts to gather all the clues to what is going on, we get introduced to more and more of the super natural world around her. I loved getting to know more of them.

Warning, this book ends with a cliff hanger like book 1. Is it November yet?

If you love action, paranormal romance and a mystery that needs to be solved before time runs out, you’ll love this series.

This book is smoking hot! Love the steamy romance scenes between Elijah & Rainey! Of course, things keep looking deeper & darker as we go. Rainey isn't quite herself anymore. She has moments when her eyes change color, she hears voices and she forgets what she did. It always seems to happen when someone she loves dies or when she gets angry over senseless killing. We learn Jane has a secret. And she finally tells Elijah what she is. She makes him promise not to tell Rainey. You can imagine how this goes over when Rainey finds out she was lied to. Yep, that good! What the voices help her do after someone she loves dies is so bad and affects Jane too! Bad things happen when you open a magical box with warnings over the outside. There are more witch killings for her reality wake up call. Can Rainey resist the voices or has she invited there help too many times to remain in control?

Blood Captive by Jessica Wayne is the second book in Vampire Huntress Chronicles. Rainey and Elijah are back home after their trip to Salem but things are not the same within Rainey. She keeps hearing voices asking to be freed, people are telling her the darkness is coming and witches keep ending up dead. This story doesn't disappoint with it's fast paced action and suspense, revelations and steamy romance you will not be able to put it down. When people Rainey cares about start getting hurt, she unknowingly embraces the voices only to be confronted with one he'll of a cliff hanger ending. Hopefully Elijah, Jane and Tarnley can defeat the darkness and bring Rainey back to herself.

Surprise after surprise!
I love these books. In the second book about Rainey and Elijah things really get intense. Elijah doesn't want to leave her alone because something seems to be stalking her. Their relationship is heating up by the day but now, witches are being killed. Rainey is still working on the police force but they keep telling her to take time off and hide. Her captain knows more than she has ever let on but the situation is getting scarier. How can Rainey protect the people she loves when Elijah seems to be trying to protect her and in her way. I couldn't put it down and couldn't believe the things that were happening. Looking forward to the next installment

I felt lukewarm about this book until the end. I wish we had seen Rainey spiral a little bit more gradually since she has been possessed for a while. We saw some episodes of "psychosis", as they call it in the book, but I wish it had steadily built until she finally snapped at the end. **************************************SPOILER ALERT ***************************** I was extremally please when Rainy was possessed completely by Heather. I literally shouted YES YES YES! I love me a good villain, and Heather is a baddy. That being said, I started the 3rd book before writing this review, and, well, I'm a little disappointed 30% into the 3rd book. I'll be sure to review the third book.

WOW!!!

This is the second book in this crazy story and it just continues to evolve, the plot, thus far, is really done well. We get a bunch of questions answered as secrets come spilling out...from everywhere. The ending in this is a killer and I'm glad the next book is already written. I feel so bad for Jane and Elijah, both of their worlds have fallen apart and it's probably going to get worse. Rainey was hard to like in this one as she was being whittled away, bit by bit. I'm very curious to see where this goes. This is not for the squeamish, there's a bit of gore and violence in it but it is done well and plays a big part in the storyline. Yeah, the ending, just wow!!!

Blood Captive by Jessica Wayne is Book 2 in the Vampire Huntress Chronicles series. This book start where Blood Hunt ended. We again have a fast paced, page turning thrill ride with lots of action, unexpected twists/turns, romance, well developed plot, exceptional characters, many questions answered and new ones created. The darkness is getting stronger and is leaving a lot of dead bodies and chaos behind. The relationship between Rainey and Elijah is moving along nicely and getting stronger. This ends on quite a cliffhanger. This is a must read series. Received and ARC and this is my voluntary review.

I am enjoying this series very much it is a mixture of Underworld meets Lost Girl and CSI! I could totally see this as a movie. Rainey and Elijah do not hesitate to give you a steamy sensuality in the midsts of being hunted, the hunted being hunted. Again ending in a nail biting cliff hanger. I got so involved in the characters it made me wonder how many people I know aren’t telling me the whole truth and keeping dark secrets. Well written, excited I found a new series in supernatural. Sorry, no spoilers on this one it is a must read.

Poor Riley, Poor Elijah

I guess my title says it all. They have such struggles, she keeps finding new murder victims and he’s trying to find out what the evil stuff is that’s in the box from book one. Her life is getting darker.
I’m really glad this is a trilogy because I couldn’t stand much more for them both.
Positives, she’s relatively older for a h. She has a great friend in Jane and Elijah has a great friend in T(?), support system for her from police captain too.
Negative, a cliffhanger, but understandable.

I. Love. Rainey. And. Elijah! This book was so good! As they usually are with Jessica Wayne's stories, it was so hard to put down. From beginning to end you are left wanting more! There was romance (of both the touching and steamy variety), suspense, twists, heartbreak; pretty much the full gambit! That ending though! All I know is that I can't wait for the final book to know what happens! I highly recommend this series! Jessica never disappoints!

“Blood Captive”, the second book in the “Vampire Huntress Chronicles” by Jessica Wayne, is fantastic good written vampire book, a paranormal romance meets thriller that follows Rainey Astor (FMC) a police detective based in Montana, that following the events depicted in the last installment (“Blood Hunt”) during her trip to Salem, finds herself back home in Billings and struggle to get back to ‘business as usual’ despite the turn her life has taken, in order to fully enjoy the story it would be best to read Blood Hunt before hand.

With witches being ritually killed, Rainey suspect an evil force at work, despite the apparent impression of sacrifice. Meanwhile Rainey seems to have an stalker, but not even her could realize the full scope of the evil forces that seem to lure her deeper and deeper into their web, Rainey finally finds the truth about this evil with terrifying consequences, that not even Elijah will be able to ward off.

The book is very well-written in Jessica Wayne’s fast-paced and crisp style. Action filled, with multiple twists and unexpected turns, it goes deeper into the nuances of Rainey and Elijah relationship, and the kind of end that lets you yelling for the next book to launch….pretty please… asap!

From beginning to end this book takes from twist to the next. Rainey and Elijah pull you back into their story and believe when I say you won't be disappointed. It has everything you need and so much more. The action, romance, emotional, the heat and steam and its so intense that when it finally lets go you will be shocked and left wanting so much more. I was reeling by the end and when the truth comes to light it will be too late save them? An another amazing feat by this she definitely knows how to give you all the twist and had you coming back for more. I definitely can't wait to read the next one.

I loved more Rainey and Elijah, great start to book two in the series. It draws you in right from the beginning. you can't help but to keep on wanting to read. I love the development of Rainey's and Elijah's relationship throughout and how they still know they shouldn't be together because she is supposed to be his enemy. Do you love steamy scenes and a great story this is definitely for you. Amazing book
