Dewan is very good at what he does. Anyone who wants to understand why analysts are as confident as they are in valuing defense (say, Raul Ibanez or Dayton Moore) must read BIS's methodology. Or any serious baseball fan who understands that there is more to defense than not committing errors or throwing out base stealers. The conclusions -broadly- are sound, although newcomers should understand that there are equally legitimate metrics out there that come to very different conclusions on individ ...more
