Rescue Alaska is a fast moving mystery series with a paranormal twist which takes place in a small town in northern Alaska where visitors come to hike and ski. Harmony Carson is a lifelong resident who volunteers as a member of the local search and rescue team. She has a unique gift which she often considers a curse. She is able to 'see' the individuals she is meant to help rescue, and more often than not she can feel their fear and their pain as well.

L'autrice è stata a lungo senza scrivere alcun libro di questa serie, poi ha prodotto questo dicendo che sarebbe stato l'ultimo (o così mi ricordo di aver letto), ma in realtà il finale pare aperto a possibili seguiti. Staremo a vedere. Nonostante l'aspetto paranormale la serie non mi dispiace e come tutto quello che ho letto di questa autrice si lascia leggere con piacere.

A vision is keeping Harmony awake at night, it is coming more often and making sleep impossible not to mention the horror headaches it leaves behind. At first she thought it might just be a recurring dream but soon she learns that it is much more. In the first vision she sees a girl locked up and being held hostage, scared and frightened. When a second girl is added to the mix Harmony knows she must figure out who they are and where they are being held. With the help of her law enforcement friend she begins to unravel her visions and finds clues that may just help them. Follow along as Harmony tries to save these girls before it is to late. Will she succeed in the end or will her visions lead her astray?

Finding Shelter earns 5/5 Deadly Dreams...Engaging Drama!
“I have nightmares. Sometimes they are real.” Harmony Carson looked around the room, feeling the chill, finding it difficult to walk and talk, and realizing this was one of her “sleeping visions.” She tried gathering details knowing it could be essential, but much was masked or out of focus...the rustic cabin, the old woman, the dark hallway, and the terror in the young girl’s eyes. The difference to previous visions is the she could only observe. There was no connection to the old woman’s feeling or that of the imprisoned girl. Her friend and police chief, recognized her “gift,” but had no luck with an official. missing person’s search and little is gleaned with each new vision. She does fear that her movements and what she can see is controlled by a third person. It is important to control her angst or answers may be missed...then the visions change, more details appear, and as the locked door opens, Harmony realizes the vision has become very real and more dire. Time is of the essence. But, can she handle the headaches that accompany her visions? Can she not? Lives are at stake.
Kathi Daley has brought back Harmony Carson and the residents of Rescue, Alaska, along with a fascinating paranormal twist to search and rescue. The drama is intense dealing with human trafficking, but details and clues are presented more as thoughts, sights, and feelings having to be interpreted. Clues to a series of abductions are parceled out with heart rendering descriptions of Harmony’s own fears, pain, and frustrations with what she witnesses. Her “gift” may not be understood or defined, but it is recognized by her friends and family as real, so it’s not a question whether she’s crazy, but a question of “how can we help.” This focuses the story more on the details in her visions, the hunt, and the capture of evil than the how or why of her talent. Harmony is a delightful young woman, sympathetic, who, despite the tradgic loss of her parents and sister, has shown maturity and become an integral part of the community. Her “only friends” relationship with an action film star, who resides in Rescue in between movie gigs, is understandable, but I’d like to see a real love interest rekindled or introduced. Kathi’s writing style, filled with emotional descriptions and dialogue, was engaging, entertaining, and kept me up into the wee hours reading. Newbies can be assured that enough background is provided to make this book a great place to start. I’m glad Kathi took us back to Alaska; Harmony is one of my favorite characters in the Daley universe.

The storyline was intriguing and powerful with so many twists and turns. Characters this time around will have you on the edge of your seat. You will not want to put it down till you finish the very last page. I think this is the best of the series yet !

The characters are well developed and well rounded. Harmony is still having visions but these visions have headaches and sleeplessness accompanying them. She and Houston try to figure out who the vision is about and what they can do to help them. Can they figure it out in time?
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. I could picture her dreams in my mind’s eye and it was a little terrifying.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I cannot wait to read the next one in the series.

Excellent! I love this series and have waited awhile for this next in the series and I wasn't disappointed. Harmony who can sense when people need rescued is now having dreams of someone who needs help only this one has a different feel to it. With the help of Houston they set off to see if they can find the answer.
I love these characters and the whole vibe of Harmony sensing others problems. This book takes it to a new level. You are lead through the mystery nicely and I kept turning pages anxious to see what was happening next. I will definitely continue on with this series, I think that this series has jumped to my favorite of hers.

Make sure you get some sleep before you begin reading this book as you won’t want to put it down. Harmony sees some visions while she is sleeping which send her and Houston out looking for kidnapped girls. I felt like I was right there with them with each step they took. This is an excellent read. I love the ending and can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Finding Shelter is the fifth book in Kathi Daley’s Rescue Alaska Mystery series. The writing in this steadily paced book flows smoothly, the three-dimensional characters are affable, and the mystery is well plotted. This series has paranormal aspects, with the main character being able to make a psychic connection with people usually in need of rescue. As with all her books, Ms. Daley has provided readers with a clean read, caring and kindhearted characters, and an intriguing mystery to try to solve. This book quickly turned into a suspenseful page-turner that was hard to put down and left me craving the next installment. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading well-crafted cozy mysteries.
Harmony Carson lives in a little cabin in Rescue, Alaska, with a variety of animals, including multiple dogs, a cat named Moose, who has the ability to comfort her and melt away the trauma she experiences, a blind mule named Homer, plus many more. She’s a waitress at Neverland, the bar owned by her brother-in-law, Jake Cartwright, a volunteer member of Rescue’s search-and-rescue team, and manages the daily operations of Rescue Animal Shelter. This is #5 in the Rescue Alaska series. Normally I do not read or enjoy books with paranormal parts in the storyline. However, whether I believe it is possible or not, it definitely is an important part in the Rescue Alaska series. Harmony has a gift, although curse may be more accurate to describe here ability to get into someone’s mind. It has helped her in their SAR efforts and with victims. Because Harmony has grown up in the area and her ability is well-known, her thoughts are not dismissed by her friends or law enforcement. I won’t repeat the synopsis here. I will say that the characters in the books are well-defined and very likeable and love all her animals. I won’t spoil anything, but I did like the ending!

This series is back on track. Book #4 was a complete letdown and I was leary of where this one would lead. The story starts a little differently because Harmony is dreaming her vision. It develops beautifully and you are off on an adventure. This one deals with the all too real crisis of human trafficking of young girls. It accurately portrays how hard it is to combat in the rural stretches of our country. I also am pleased that Harmony's relationship with Houston is starting to progress.
The author was definitely back on her game. You were hooked from the first page. I can't wait for Book #6.

Intriguing and intense, Finding Shelter is a thoroughly engrossing read that takes place in Alaska. I couldn't put it down until the end.
Harmony is a lovable, very human character that I would enjoy being friends with. She and her animal crew are not only lovable; they are formidable when it comes to protecting the innocent.
This is not your ordinary search and rescue operation, though maybe ordinary isn't the right word, since none of them are really ordinary. This book is a race against time and evil, greedy people.
Great book and I highly recommend it.

A Mystery that will have you on the Edge of your seat
Finding Shelter by Kathi Daley was a book filled with unexpected twists and turns. I like how the reader was able to pick up on the relationship Houston and Harmony and how the duo look out for one another. I liked how Kathi Daley brought to the reader's attention a real life issue happening in today's world. I also liked how Harmony's gift was more prevalent in this book. A well written book readers will enjoy.

Poor Harmony. Her nightmares / visions appear to be getting more demanding. It’s getting harder to tell whether real or dream. Now she’s dreaming about little girls being held captive. Using her psychic ability, Harmony along with Houston, take us deep into a mystery involving missing children. Very intriguing the way her psychic connection and quest played out. Very suspenseful and an excellent weaving of the plot with lots of twists and turns. Also,If you are like me, an animal lover, you will love Harmony, her animals, her love for animals, and the way animals are included in this excellent story.

Finding Shelter is the fifth book in the wonderful Rescue Alaska mystery series. Once again, Harmony uses her special gift/curse of paranormal visions to connect and communicate with kidnapping victims to help Police Chief Hank Houston rescue them. There is plenty of suspense and danger in this series. The writing flows smoothly, and the setting and relatable characters make for an extremely enjoyable and quick read.

this is a good story not as good as someof the others but good, her powers are expanding and giving her bad headaches. now they are hunting for missing children Harmony and Houston with two dogs go out to find them. i hope there is another books to tie up the kidnappings and of course with Harmony

I enjoyed the series,but ended with a maybe..not cool to the point done reading her series because all my end the same! Guess she didn’t know how to finish it so left it hanging. It’s not the place of the reader after five books to figure out the ending that just sucks.

Finding the missing?
This was a really intense story about bad weather and human trafficking. But you really have a lot of the interaction between the mind "speech" and the girls. Can this get any more difficult to solve who the bad guy is and where he has the girls? So try to find them without getting to beat up?

Another nail biting mystery
This story kept me reading til the end. With descriptive details of the cold Alaskan landscape and a time sensitive mystery to solve, we're kept guessing the outcome until the end. A must read tale.

Quick Read
I enjoyed this book on a short winter day in So Cal! Ha! There is a bit too much redundancy from the previous books, but I always like her story lines. I do recommend reading the Alaska books in the heat of summer. You do get transported to a very cold climate. Enjoy!
