From the queen of sexy, military stories, Jessika Klide's RULES OF ENGAGEMENT is a humorous, enemies to lovers, steamy, contemporary romance written in  K. Bromberg's Everyday Heroes World and part of her Born To Fight Heroes For Hire series.

In high school, the unassuming Jorja Jones became the unlikely target of the 100mph fastball star, Jocko Malone. To her, his ‘Juicy’ nickname was bullying. To him, he was flirting.

When he joins the Navy instead of going Pro, unwilling to leave without seeing her again, not knowing if he would return or not, and unable to speak with the raw emotion stuck in his throat, he pinned her against the lockers and took a goodbye kiss then walked away—detonating her world.

Now, six years later, when Jorja receives an assignment to write an article on Everyday Heroes for Modern Family Magazine, she is thrilled with the honor—until she learns it's on Sunnyville’s newly returned hero, Navy SEAL Jocko Malone.

When past and present collide, the explosion destroys all Jorja’s beliefs about the young cocky, arrogant ass she remembered. As she learns who he really is and what he is all about, assessing him in a new light as he interacts with his K9 partner, she fights not to fall for the hero he has become.

Can she accept her feelings for him before he walks away forever?

I keep seeing these everyday hero world novels and thinking they sound great. But I couldn't go passed this one with that blurb. As soon as I read it I knew it was going to be the perfect, quick read with an alpha hero, what basically amounts to insta love and then just to sweeten the deal they throw in a dog. And I just love it when they include the dogs in the story like they are main characters and that was exactly how Luce was written.

So, I haven’t read the Everyday Heroes books but they are on my TBR, and I am new to Jessika Klide but again she is on my TBR. So when I saw this one I figured it was the bext of both worlds, because these kindle worlds that are so popular right now are like my crack. And I keep going on and on about it but geez I love them, even when a particular book doesn’t work for me it’s still the perfect introduction to a new author or a new world.

As for this book Jocko was all the things you think of when you hear the words Navy Seal. And having his K9, Luce, along for the story just made him that much better. What’s hotter than a guy who loves his dog and treats him like his much loved child, a guy and dog that can and will take on the world to protect the love of his life. Cue the swooning.

Jorja’s feelings towards Jocko just made the story that much more realistic. And watching her have her eyes reopened to their history and seeing how beautiful the future she was being offered was going to be had me loving her as much as I loved Jocko. The chemistry, the openness of communication and lack of guile or games made this a really hot, fun, sweet book to read.

Now I really can’t wait to read more of both the Everyday Heroes novels and world novellas and Jessika Klide’s writing.

What a fantastic addition to The Everyday Heroes World!!!!!
This is the first book I have read by Jessica Klide and it certainly won’t be the last because I loved everything about this story, the writing is as strong as the characters and that for me is a win win.
This is Jorja Jones and Jocko Malone’s story and what a entertaining tale they have to tell. Jorja is a writer for the Sidney Malone families magazine and she has been asked to write a story on newly retired Navy Seal Jocko. The problem is this pair have a history and Jorja is not sure she wants to go back down that track......
What can I say about the Malone men that hasn’t already been said ! well Jocko is certainly worthy of joining that clan of alpha males we have all come to love, he knows what he wants and he goes after it. Jorja stole a bit of my heart, she is sassy and strong and not afraid to say what she is thinking so will these two put the past behind them .......
I’m looking forward to reading more from this very talented author

Jocko Malone left 6years ago joining the Navy Seals and leaving behind Jorja Jones with their first ever explosive kiss. Hoping that would let her know he wanted her and nobody else, hoping she would wait for him.

Now his back. Gorgeous hot mature all man. Thinking that things would just pick up where they left off, Jocko is in for a surprise. Jorja didn’t forget him but she didn’t like the person he was back then, the way he treated other girls. She didn’t know what type of man he was now. So when she is giving an assignment to write an article for her magazine about the true hometown hero she didn’t expect to find out who he really was and didn’t expect to

This was a heartfelt emotional but definitely you can feel the chemistry type of book. Filled with romance, hot chemistry but also some suspense thrown in. Jocko knew he wanted Jorja and the way he goes about showing her that she was the one for him will have your heart melting 😊

A Fast-paced Steamy read with Talk issues, Everyday Heroes, Action, Love & HEA❤.
I Adored Jocko & Jorja, DEVOURED this book in 3hrs.

#My 1st by Jessika & it's also my 1st in the Everyday Heroes world as I haven't read any book by K.Bromberg 😅. So going for more!

At high school, Jocko-Cocky & a little Asshole, loved teasing Jorja-Sassy, Feisty & Smart. Their Attraction sizzled with intensity But Jocko gave Jorja their 1st kiss when he was leaving to become a Navy SEAL. He didn't say anything afterward & didn't contact her for the next 6yrs..So Hence the miscommunication.
They were always in eachother's thought, but she sorta hated him.
"His goodbye kiss was the kiss of death as far as my love life went. Not only because none of the boys in school were willing to take the risk, but because his kiss ruined it for me. No other man could match it. It was easy, not dating." ~Jorja

NOW, 6yrs later, Jocko is back for good, with his trusty K9 Lucifer (😍). While, Jorja works as a Magazine Content Writer & her boss wants her to do an article for contest on Jocko, the town hero. Oh shit. & The whole town knows about them *Snicker*.

Jocko & Jorja meet on a rescue (Oh wow!), She sees the real meaning of Everyday Heroes & how Jocko has matured. He's still a little Cocky, but thoughtful, Caring, Funny, intense & All MAN too.

Jocko wants to Start from where they left off 6 years ago..
Talks, Fun, Family Time, Home..AND
"I have gone through hell. I have paid my debt to my country, and it was an honor to do so. But now, I am ready to focus on my life and my legacy. I am ready to settle down, get married, have babies. But I learned last night the girl I was hoping to sweep off her feet and make a happily ever after life with has hated me the entire time. What a mind fuck!" ~Jocko

But Jorja now knows that he isn't the mean guy she thought he was & as they Spend Time together, He sweeps her off her feet! She's his girl, always was, always will be. Just like he's all hers.
Love Decisions, Sexy times (Her 1st😘), Dinner date, Pub, Bad guys (Action!)..
Days pass, They form a Daily Routine, fall in love..
"Every day, I realize that if I hadn’t already fallen in love with him, that at that moment in time, I would. Jocko Malone is my everyday hero." ~Jorja

And this story ends on a Bang with July 4th Fun Celebration (Proposal😍) + a gorgeous Epilogue (Awards & Baby!!)

Rules Of Engagement is a beautiful heartwarming read.
It truly does The Everyday Heroes world justice, in trying to shine a light at, and teach us to acknowledge and appreciate our very own everyday heroes.

With nothing more then a single kiss 6 years ago, the bond between Jocko and Jorja is something out of a fairytale. With a heartfelt portrayal of the close relationship between Jocko and his K9, we are shown the multi-faceted and tender side of our navy SEAL.

I adored this story! It was super sexy, fun and pretty adorable.

"That kiss was more than a kiss. It was...everything a kiss should be, and he has come back for you."

Jorja Jones spent all of high school trying to avoid Jocko Malone. He teased and bullied her relentlessly. She tried to ignore the fact that she found him hot because she didn't want to be like all the other girls at school. On the day he graduated, Jocko plants a huge, claiming kiss on her, and then walks out of her life to join the marines. Six years later, he's back in their small town, and aiming to pick up where he left off. However, Jorja refuses to be made a fool of again.

"The taste of her is sweeter than I remember. Her essence fills all the hollow parts of my soul, and I know I have made it home."

This was such a fab story. It had low-angst and plenty of feel-good. There was no real drama between Jorja and Jocko - just a super fun and steamy story, as they ironed out past misunderstandings and determined to fulfil the promise of what they were always meant to be. I really enjoyed this new-to-me author's writing style and really keen to read more of her books.

Jocko is a former Navy Seal going back to his hometown with his K9 buddy. Jorja is a writer living in her hometown. When Jocko comes back home all bets are off. Jocko wants nothing more than to make Jorja his forever girl. The chemistry between these two is off the charts sexy. Jorja is writing a story about hometown heroes. Jocko and Luce are her heroes in so many ways. I not Only enjoyed the chemistry and banter between them but the adventures the boys went on were exciting. I truly Enjoyed reading this story.

Quotes:
#1) Jocko Malone:
As I lower my mouth to hers, the defiance in her eyes fades to fear as her willing body melts into mine.
Damn. I’ve been a fool. I should have done this a long time ago. She’s been resisting me, not because she doesn’t want me, but because she does.
#2) Jorja Jones:
A devilishly wicked grin spreads across perfectly sculpted lips.
Holy Hell. That mouth!
The wind is knocked out of me as the truth I have tried so hard to deny lays bare my broken heart and it rejoices at the sight of that mouth. It stops completely, then begins pounding in my chest. Because six years, seventeen days, and approximately two hours ago, that mouth with those delicious lips woke it up before it broke it in two. That mouth, with those delicious lips, has filled my dreams with either horror or horniness, but mostly horniness.
I stare as that mouth with those delicious lips forms the words ….
“Sup, Juicy?”

5 Star review of Rules of Engagement by Jessika Klide
Rules of Engagement is a story set in K.Bromberg’s Everyday Heroes World. I know that this is hard to believe but Jessika Klide is a new author to me and how I have not come across her before I have no idea. It may have been my first book by this author, but it will not be my last.
This is Jorja Jones and Jocko Malone’s story and what an enjoyable story it was. Jorja is a writer for Sidney Malone’s family magazine and she is tasked with writing an article about Navy Seal Jocko who has recently returned home to Sunnyville.
Jorja and Jocko have a history and not all of it is good. I have loved every Malone male and Jocko is no exception. There is something about an alpha male who knows what and who he wants and is not afraid to go after what he wants.
Although not a long read, Ms.Klide packs a lot into this story and of course it was great to see some familiar faces pop up. Jocko ticked the boxes for me and I really liked Jorja who was a sassy and feisty woman who could hold her own.
This was a well written and entertaining story that drew me in and kept me invested.

4 Stars!

Ah, this book. Soooo good in a whole lot of moments! Jessika Klide has delivered quite the steamy, intense romance in her brand new release and I was here. for. it, even for all the pesky feels she gave on every page.

Rules of Engagement tells Jocko and Jorja's (looooove the unique names!) story and y'all, whewww, what a second chance they (or he) got. You see, these two have history, not all of it good, but not all of it bad either. What it was, was completely memorable and unforgettable for both. So years later when fate throws them a curveball, putting them directly in each other's lives, all bets are off this time for him.

He wants her. She's trying to resist him. It's gonna be a little messy and complicated and slightly twisted but soooo very worth it by the end.

I'm actually pretty shocked that this is my first Jessika Klide book but it certainly won't be my last. Fast-paced, action-packed, full of emotions, and unputdownable from the very first word... Rules of Engagement is a standalone within the Everyday Heroes World created by K. Bromberg and holy wow, what a romance (and two beautiful characters) that you totally do not want to miss out on.

I recommend this book.

US / WW

Jocko's home after having served his country as a SEAL. But he's not home to just settle into civilian life, nope, he's got one thing on his mind and that's claiming the girl he's thought about every day since he left her when she was still in high school. He knows she may not be that thrilled to see him considering he left right after laying a hot kiss on her, but she'll come around...right?

Well, not so right, at first. But once he finds out the results of leaving right after the kiss, he knows he has to woo her a bit gently. Will she be able to let the past go?

I'm sad to say this story did not really work for me. The dialogue was so stilted and oddly phrased that it took me out of the story every time two words were not contracted, which was OFTEN, and so many of the terms were cheesy. The chemistry between Jocko and Jorga felt weak and I just could not get behind them as a couple, nor did I really enjoy reading. But I did like both characters, I just felt they didn't particularly seem to have a strong connection. Not a horrible story or horribly written, it just was not developed enough for my tastes, and the dialogue was really bothersome.

It was perfect! Just like a smooth ride. The rhythm of the story was fluid. I fell in love with Luce even more than I did with Jocko because the author did a great job at expressing how magnificent he is. Not that Jocko is anything other than amazing himself. He is the sweetest, romantic, trustworthy, straight forward, most assertive, simplest hunk capable of destruction you can ever imagine. All man, more than man. And he is very well balance with a smart, talented woman like Jorja by his side who understands him and is open to learn and communicate. With her support and the town's welcome home for Jocko, the admiration for his and Luce's profession really comes through. But also the love for them as part of the family. This book is very well balanced with some fun moments, some action, sexy time, some intense moments but also with some easy going characters.

Six years ago Jocko claimed a kiss from Jorga in the corridor of the high school they attended. Prompting walking away and never seeing her again. Something that has put somewhat of a dampener on her love life as nobody wants to go near Jocko's girl - however, she was never his girl, it was just a goodbye kiss - right?

Jorga hears the news that Jocko is back in town after being a Navy SEAL, something her boss at the magazine she works for is looking for her to cover. Great, just what she needs. Their paths cross unexpectedly when she is rushed out of the office to cover a missing person case. Jocko and his trusty K9 Lucifer are on hand to help find the missing man, but first Jorga has to endure a helicopter ride and she doesn't like flying.

Whilst six years might have passed between them, the spark of attraction is still very much there and Jocko is back in town to lay claim to the girl he left behind. With them navigating a relationship, criminals and discovering what it means to be an everyday hero.

A kiss to remember. When Jocko Malone left 6 years ago to join the Navy Seals he gave Jorja their first kiss. But it was a kiss to remember. That kiss sent a message that he wanted her to be his with the hope she would wait for him. It was a kiss that Jorja too would never forget. Now he is back and he has changed from the cocky athlete he was to a more mature, humble and gorgeous man.

He has grown up a lot since joining the Navy Seals but now he is retired and ready to settle down with her. But he doesn’t realize what that kiss did to her when he left. What Jorja saw that kiss as was an arrogant cocky jock. There was always an attraction between the two but she didn’t like how he treated other girls. That was a big turnoff to her. He gave up becoming a professional baseball player to join the Navy because he wanted to do something important with his life. I really tried to like this, but it just didn’t work out for me. The writing style feels very awkward, maybe it’s from the slang used, & not realistic feeling for a contemporary romance. It almost felt like fan-fic. The flow is erratic, with lots of typos and even a place that seems to be missing text as it just stops, since it doesn’t finish the sentence even to explain it (there’s no period & starts a new paragraph, here’s the text in the bracket as it appears in the book= {“ When the dessert is passed around, I take a piece of Betsy’s homemade cherry pie, top it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, eat about half, and then push the remaining over to Jocko. He sees it and looks at me. “You are welcome to my}). The character development just isn’t there, to make me care about the characters. There is entirely way too much internal dialogue for both MC’s. Jocko (yea, the name is ridiculous, can’t take him seriously reading it) is so strange, never communicating with her, beginning in high school -that I saw as a reader. Then calling her juicy was just idiotic- not a nice thing to do. At the point in the story where he’s thinking to himself= “ I tried to whack off, but I no longer need a Jorja-hand-job to keep my sanity. I need to sink the son-of-a-bitch deep inside her to assure her I’m not blowing sunshine up her ass. I mean what I say and say what I mean. ”- I was out, that was just messed up BS. That’s when she hadn’t even known he liked her. She still didn't know where she stood with him when he dropped her off at her car after the party, but yet the whole town thought they were an “couple” since high school, when they never dated let alone hung out. Don’t think I’d want to read other books by this author after this

At my age (approaching 60), life is way too short & my time is too important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.

Rules of Engagement is my first read from author, Jessika Klide but she gained a fan with this short, entertaining read. This is also my first book in the Everyday Heroes world but I guarantee it won't be my last!

Jocko Malone has been a thorn in Jorja Jones' flesh for as long as she can remember. As if his cocky attitude wasn't enough, he hit her with a life-changing kiss and then disappeared for six years. When he returns to town a big, bad, devastatingly gorgeous Navy SEAL, she's blown away and completely unprepared for reaction to the distracting man.

Jocko Malone is used to girls flocking to him but never the one that he truly wants attention from. Jorja Jones is the pinnacle for him and now that he's home from his time as a SEAL, he's come back to claim his girl. She hasn't figured out she's his yet but SEALs never quit and she has no idea what she's in for! Shock and awe, indeed.

This was a fun and quick read with clever characters. Jocko and Jorja had great banter and I loved how she gave him a hard time. I loved Luce and adding the K9 component! Fantastic read, I can't wait for more everyday heroes through the eyes of the people who love them!

“The only person I ever convinced was my reflection in the mirror.”

The moment you think you have everyone fooled. You think you are hiding your emotions, fear, hope, dreams, insecurities...the person who is your other half can read you despite your efforts to be invisible.

“I look around and realize who everyday heroes are. They are the men and women who unselfishly give to others...”

People who give unselfishly deserve the most recognition. They usually try to give under the radar and do not seek attention. The world needs more everyday heroes. We can all take a lesson from their example.

“...she will hear every word of truth I say. I do not do drama. I never have.”

Sometimes when people walk away it is to return with more to give. To fulfill a personal need or goal. To heal themselves. It’s hard to live through the emptiness, but the reward is worth the wait.

“Communicating without words.”

This book is not an easy one to put down. It kept me engaged from the first page. You feel the love, sacrifice, self doubt, hope, dedication, pride, fear and steaminess.

“UNCOMPROMISING INTEGRITY IS MY STANDARD. MY CHARACTER AND HONOR ARE STEADFAST. MY WORD IS MY BOND.”

Jocko wasn’t about to leave town and pursue his dream of becoming a Navy SEAL without doing the one thing he wanted to do first which was to kiss Jorja. It exceeded far beyond anything he could have imagined and now that he and his furry friend are back in town he is determined to pursue the woman he has always wanted.

Jorja remembers their first and only kiss with less fondness and isn’t enamored that she is tasked with interviewing the returning hero. When she is determined to keep their relationship distant and he is determined to convince her to give him a second chance who will win this battle of the wills?

Rules of Engagement is a scalding hot, stand alone Contemporary romance in the K. Bromberg's Everyday Heroes World and a part of J. Klide's Born To Fight Task Force series. This book has a Military, Enemies to Lovers trope that will pull you in from the start. It has all the feels so be prepared to be hot and bothered along with a book hangover!

Jorja: Jocko Malone claimed me with one kiss in the hall of our high school, walked away without saying one word, I was humiliated. Now, 6 years later, he's returning as a decorated Navy SEAL with his MPC Lucifer and wants to pick up where we left off. I won't fall at his feet!

Jocko: The last time I saw Jorja Jones I had her pinned against some lockers, and she was giving as good as she got. That memory of her sweetness got me through some dark times. Now, my stint is up in the military and I’m going home to Sunnyville to claim the girl I had to leave behind.

Jorja: When my boss lady, The Editor in Chief at Modern Family Magazine, tells me that I will be writing our entry for the contest of an Everyday Hero, I'm happy to be chosen. Then she informs me that it will be our own hometown hero, Jocko Malone, why does my life suck?!?! I know I can’t turn this opportunity down, but how am I supposed to write a winning article about a man I absolutely despise?

What a fun and exciting read. This was really a feel good love story. Which is something I associate with the town of Sunnyville and the name Malone.
Jocko Malone's story has its own cloud of darkness but he doesn't let it swallow him. With the help of his Aunt and Uncle, his cousin's he's got a solid support system and Grayson's son Luke who becomes Jocko's outlet with his kind heart and the unconditional love and acceptance only a child can give.
Jorja 'juicy' Jones spent all of her High School years thinking she was being bullied by Jocko despite reassurance from her BFF Margie that he just wanted to be with her. And after one swelteringly hot kiss he's gone for six years.

Upon return Jorja now a writer for Sunnyville's local magazine has been handed the article for the everyday hero competition. Starring none other then Jocko Malone returned Navy SEAL and his K9 Partner Lucifer. Lucifer is an amazing character in the story and it was really nice to see the dual roles shown in a more appropriate light. That these dogs are soldiers to and have to adjust back to normal life to. That they deserve our respect.

Jorja is less the excited about Jocko being her subject, but realizes this isn't an opportunity she can not turn down.
Needless to say it doesn't take long for Jorga to realize she may have been wrong about Jocko all this time.
Their connection is instant and electrifying and thankfully Jorja gives into it and discovers what Jocko and Margie new all along.
I do wish we got a little more story about Jocko's parents or his time with his Uncle and Aunt Betsy. But it doesn't take away anything from the story of Jocko and Jorga.
There are some laugh out loud moments, some very swoon worthy moments and some definite pound their faces in moments.
Another great read for our Everyday Heroes.

I was given an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.
