I finally got that Accounting is NOT Math!!!

This is the first time in my 20 years of being a business owner that I’ve had a clear picture of my bookkeeping and accounting. I’ve spent a lot of time and money trying to figure out what this book just simplified. Plus I love the humor. It takes what is normally a confusing, tedious, and boring subject for me and made it crystal clear and fun. I’m a visual learner. They have brilliantly put visual graphics that I could follow. They use color to make it easy. I highly recommend this read. I will be sharing it with other business owners I care about as well as my bookkeeper and accountant.

Can’t recommend this book enough !

The previous version of this book (Color Accounting) was my most recommend book in this category. The reason for that was the content was truly unparalleled in truly starting from the beginning with basics of accounting and then building upon that foundation by balancing the detail of accounting with the context and usefulness of accounting.

Now, honestly, the previous kindle version of this book wasn’t well formatted for kindle and, I think, there could have been an even deeper dive of more practical accounting considerations. But, it was very easy to look past these things in the previous version because it’s content was still so rich and so refreshingly unique.

However, this new version is even more incredible. Not only is this version of the book so customized for the kindle, but it also provides some great new illustrations as well as adds some super helpful additional content (like practical case studies, discussing separate legal entities versus personal finances, and other micro-topics).

As a CPA and adjunct accounting professor, I get asked about recommended resources for accounting.... often. This book is my new number one. There isn’t another book that comes close in my mind when it comes to building a foundation accounting and finance.

In summary, I highly recommend this book to not only people who want to be a greater confidence in accounting, but I also highly recommend this book to accounting and finance professionals who want to to better describe, teach and discuss accounting with their clients, teammates and others in their sphere of influence.

I am currently pursuing an MBA and taking an accounting course. To add some fun, I decided to read this book and attend a Color Accounting workshop. However, I realized that it might not have been a good idea for me. Although the book is excellent and provides a great introduction to accounting for those who find financial statements overwhelming, it uses different terms and lacks the depth I needed. On the other hand, the Color Accounting course was enjoyable and helped me understand items on the balance sheet better. I highly recommend this book if you are intimidated by accounting but need to interact with it. However, if you are studying it at an academic level, this book might not be sufficient. I wonder if they still teach accounting in high school and if they use this book and Color Accounting. Regardless, understanding accounting is crucial, especially for those in leadership roles in organizations that handle money.

No.
WILL YOU FIND ACCOUNTING JOYFUL after reading this?
No.
That's all you really need to know.
However, I will give those who want to know more some details.
First, if you know NOTHING...then this will teach you something.
If you just DON'T GET IT...then this 'might' unlock an Ah-ha moment.
It's been over 20 years since I took an accounting class. So, I thought, it might be a useful refresher and give me a new/better way to look at things.
Honestly, it's a boring textbook, just like other boring textbooks. I've checked it out 3 times, and have only finished half of it because reading it puts me to sleep. I am trying to convince myself to check it out again and finish my boring refresh.
If you already have any accounting education or experience, it will be a waste of your time.

Es un libro espectacular para aprender los principios de la contabilidad. Si eres de otra carrera y quieres entender el lenguaje contable ya sea para leer reportes, debatir un poco los indicadores de una empresa con compañeros de otras áreas administrativas, o simplemente para manejar mejor un emprendimiento que estás realizando entonces este es el libro. El método es universal así que no importa mucho de qué país lo leas. Espero que pronto se encuentre en español. El libro no es para nada aburrido, además, deja con ganas de aprender más. Excellent book!

I’ve studied accounting and work in accounting but still sometimes struggle to see how I add value as I tend to do more data entry! However, this book was really insightful not only on the mechanics of accounting ie how it works, but also from the analytical point of view as well useful questions to ask to see how accounting could help a business become more profitable! Recommend!

Excellent counter-intuitive method to “get” how accounting works

I’ve read a few books on accounting, but I had more “aha” moments in this book than any others. They explain the accounting equation, financial statements, and classical transactions in a visual and systematic way that helps you build an intuition for how it all works. Highly recommend if you’ve struggled to figure out accounting from more standard textbooks.

Amazing book if you’re a beginner in accounting I highly recommend. This book was just amazing on making accounting easy to understand. I will now go into college knowing the basics of accounting.
