I was hoping for a fun, light rom-com that I could really connect with. And while it delivered most of that, (I would have liked a bit more heat 🔥) I wasn’t fully satisfied by the time I hit the last page.

We start with Liv Goldenhorn who runs a successful wedding planner business in New York. Until that phone call. She’s just learned that her husband/business partner has suddenly died. And who do you suppose called Liv? Well friends, that would be the cheating husbands’ mistress! How thoughtful

For me, “It Had to Be You” was simply ‘Too Good to be True.’

A Rom-Com that started out cute, and sweet, only to leave me flummoxed by the end.

“It Had to Be You” is a rom-com with an ensemble cast. Think “Love Actually” or “Valentine’s Day.”

Every character goes through trials and tribulations. Seeking comfort from friends, meeting new people. Bonds form quickly. Friends turn to lovers, new romances blossom, marriages go through peaks and valleys.

A character-driven rom-com with lots of laughs, t

This is another 4S read: smart, sweet, soft, swoon! It was mostly heartwarming, entertaining, feel-good book with so many storylines ( actually they are five! ) and lots of well crafted, lovely characters.

The story centered around Liv and Savannah. Liv was delighted to run a successful wedding organizing business with her husband Elliot Goldenhorn till he bites the dust and leaves his shares to his mistress Savannah.

But don’t blame the poor, naive girl! She has no idea the man was married. Li

4.5 stars.

Georgia Clark's upcoming book, It Had to Be You , is a sweet, fun, emotional rom-com about the pleasures, pains, and possibilities that love brings.

Liv and Eliot Goldenhorn know how to plan and execute a flawless wedding. Their company, In Love in New York, has been the talk of Brooklyn for 20 years, and the two play off each other’s strengths to create wedding magic, calm nervous brides, and soothe meddling parents.

But the bottom falls out when Eliot dies suddenly while visiting hi

This was really refreshing, and a nice change of pace, I really enjoyed it. 'It Had to be You' follows a group of couples and love interests that all overlap, their lives intersect in different ways but are rooted in the sense of Weddings. Think wedding planning, the food, the flowers, the entertainment, etc. We know from the synopsis that Liv and her husband Eliot run a wedding-planning business, when Eliot dies unexpectedly he leaves his half of the business to his younger girlfriend Savannah ...more

And the Ending(s) saved the day.
The author dives into the story in with a plot that is very unconventional. But it’s just right to suck you into the story and keep you holding on.

We deal with a lot of changes in midlife especially if you have been married for quite a while. And balancing those curveballs is some thing that not everyone is equipped to do.

The main character, Liv, bas been given a huge curveball and we watch her learn and grow through her business and persona

Hi everyone!

I am ridiculously excited to share It Had To Be You, with YOU. I wrote this book because I love rom coms. I love stories that are smart and sophisticated, and swoony and sexy. As a queer writer, it was also important to me to have a diverse cast of characters. You’ll meet them in this novel’s five interconnecting love stories that center around Liv Goldenhorn and Savannah Shipley. Trope fans will find strangers-to-lovers, second chances, and a steamy fake relationship in its pages.

As half-owner of In Love In New York, a wedding planning business, Liv Goldenhorn is busy putting out fires at a wedding gone horribly wrong when she gets the phone call that forever changes her life. Her husband Eliot, who should be there helping her with the wedding, has been found dead in a motel room in Kentucky . . . with his ridiculously young and blonde mistress Savannah. What?! To add insult to injury, the same naive blonde bombshell comes calling on Liv later to announce Eliot's half of ...more

This is a five couple rom-com, structured around Live, a 49-year-old woman who fell into the career of wedding planner for those who have the money for that kind of thing. It opens with a band, as the Bridezilla from Hell screws up her own wedding by not listening to the advice she was paid for, and at the climax of the crisis Liv gets the phonecall no one wants to get. A double whammy, actually—and of course the Bridezilla promptly trashes her business all over the internet.

This was a dnf for me. I just couldn’t get in to the characters, and was mixing up the different perspectives early on in the book. I haven’t read any wedding planning centered books until now, and they’re just not for me. But if it sounds like something you would like, you should give it a try!

Much love to Goodreads and Emily Bestler Books for providing me with an ARC.

Love stories can be tricky. The small snippets of a love story can be tricker. Those Love Actually/Valentine's Day plot lines of the 2000s have really fallen out of fashion in our modern, cynical world. Imagine my surprise when I would pick up that cinematic sense of optimism in a book!

TLDR Tropes:

- Multi POV
- Romantic comedy
- Chick lit
- LGBTQ themes
- Diverse cast of characters

Dare I say it? Better than Love, Actually...Of course books have an advantage over movies in that you can enjoy the build up much longer than in a movie. But more than that these stories are more believable and engrossing. I learned a new term; this book is a braided narrative-- meaning these stories interweave in that the characters all connect in one way or another all while having their own love story to work out.

The author handles second chance love, adultery, inter racial relationships, une

This book was a quick and easy read. I enjoyed reading about all the different storylines and love stories. So much of the dialogue had me laughing out loud and when I had to put the book down, I was always looking forward to picking it back up again. This was my first book by Georgia Clark and I love her writing style!

The only negative opinion I have on this one is that I do wish we’d had more from Liv’s story. Since we started out with her, I was really confused on the direction of the story

"It Had To Be You" starts out centering around a wedding that is going nightmarishly wrong that wedding planner & owners of In Love In New York - Liv & Eliot Goldenhorn - are in charge of. Liv is running around like wildfire wondering where her husband is, when she receives the call that changes her world. It is his mistress, Savannah, letting Liv know that he has died. Liv then comes to find out that her husband had altered his will to leave half of their wedding planning business to Savannah - ...more

It Had to Be You is Georgia Clark's newest novel, following the lives and loves of those involved in the In Love in New York wedding-planning company. The owner of said company, Liv Goldenhorn, finds out that her husband died from an unexpected phone call from his mistress (yeah, that sounds pretty rough to me too), only to find out a few months later that the same mistress turns out to be the new co-owner of In Love in New York. The rest of the story rotates between five love stories and their ...more

What an amazing, funny, beautiful novel! It Had to Be You could not be more perfect. This book made me think, laugh, cry and grin! I'm not usually a fan of books with multiple perspectives, but because of the way the characters are tied together I actually enjoyed the perspective shifts! Before I read the book, I saw it described as like Four Weddings and A Funeral, this is a perfect description for the ways the characters cross paths and the amount of time the book covers, but I would say that ...more

If you're a fan of Love Actually, this is the book for you!

I think that writing one romance plotline is a difficult feat, yet Georgia Clark managed to write 5 of them beautifully! All of the stories integrate so well into each other, all of the characters have their time to shine, you don't feel like you're missing their stories even if it's not focusing on one couple, and all of them were so different! It was so refreshing to witness the different kinds of relationships and the multiple ways th

Oh my goodness, believe me when I tell you this book was an absolute TREAT to read. I loved every single page of it and I did not want it to end. Everything about this book made it impossible for me to put down, and I was able to read it in just two sittings!

Was completely surprised by It Had to Be You by Georgia Clark. I ended up reading it in one sitting and was so moved by the various interconnecting stories a la Love Actually.

While it doesn't reach the top tier of my 2020 reads, I really enjoyed it and it was a lovely feel-good escape to go into 2021 with.

Thanks to NetGalley and Atria for the advanced read!

After being secluded and quarantined for most of the past year, and with social gatherings limited to nothing more extravagant than the occasional FaceTime, I found this ensemble romance to be rejuvenating. Restorative, really. The wedding backdrop gave me the pandemic break I needed.

It was nice to imagine throwing on a curve-hugging dress again, some high heels and lipstick, escorting guests to their seats with a smile. I had a lovely time picturing the New York wedding atmosphere with its flow

Synopsis: Liv & Eliot Goldenhorn run In Love in New York, a successful wedding planning business. All was going well until the unexpected death of Eliot...and a surprise twist in his will. Eliot has left his share of the business to his much younger event planner mistress Savannah Shipley. If this wasn’t shocking enough, Liv soon learns Savannah wants to be a present & active business partner; she’s not going anywhere. I was fortunate to win an advanced reader’s edition of It Had to Be You in a Goodreads Giveaway and it is definitely the perfect antidote for the doldrums of 2020. Further injury and insult is brought to Liv after she learns that her husband had changed his will and left half of their ...more

It Had to Be You by Georgia Clark is a great contemporary fiction that brought together several different couples and stories into one enjoyable narrative.

I think the thing that I like most about this book is the impressive way that the author was able to weave the tales of a few different couples, their respective relationships, and their trials and triumphs into a central narrative that not only made sense, but made it memorable.

I really enjoyed seeing how all of these separate entities, which

This was a very unique read multi-protagonist romance with both queer and straight couples.
I’ve never read anything like it before. The romance aspects felt very real. All the decisions the main characters made regarding their love life felt plausible. Sometimes romances can end up being too far fetched, so it was nice to see one that was more grounded.

Lastly, the final parts of the book were incredibly heartfelt and I just loved it! There was a lot of emotion and heart.

I received this copy in exchange for my review. I enjoyed it- very strong female characters! It is a rom -com with lots of fun details centered about the two main characters, who because of unforeseen circumstances, are now co-owners of a very popular wedding planning company. One is a widow and the other, the ex-lover of the widow's deceased husband. Awkward situation? You betcha. But they make it work...sort of. This is definitely a fun book to read along with girlfriends to discuss! ...more

I’m a sucker for second chances tropes! Clarke carefully weaves multiple storylines which adds depth to the characters and plot! Loved the main duo: Savannah and Liv. Tons of growth and complexity with them both which made me love Clark’s story so much more. They couldn’t be more different from each other; another element that made her writing more interesting. This was my first read of hers and it will not be my last!

Thank you to Net Galley and Atria for this ARC!
