If you've tracked my reviews before, you'll know that I am a massive fan of political fantasy and court intrigue! Let me tell you, House of Bastiion did not disappoint in any way! Frankly, the only reason it didn't garner a perfect rating from me is that I rarely give the first book in a series five stars because I just haven't had enough time t

It’s so hard to come across a fantasy book where you love everything from world building to characters to the storyline and this one checked all boxes for me at one go! I loved every second of it and I legit cannot wait for it’s sequel!!

The world building was fantastic. There is no other word for it. It was beautiful and intricate like never before. I loved Bastiion and each of it’s house except maybe Pilar haha. I love the enmity and tension between the houses. I loved the Haidren system which

I think this was one of the most racially diverse indie books I've ever read. And I'm here for this diversity, yes please.

I received an eARC in exchange from Book of Matches Meduia & the author for an honest review and promotion. All opinions are my own.

Orynthia is an empire of four different Houses, they are united under the royal line of Thoarne. Under the King, each House sends a Haidren that serves as the King's advisor until the King's succession. Upon each Haidren's Ascension, they trave

This was a gripping fantasy full of political intrigue and intricate world building, which was made even richer by the companion website with great resources like a map, extensive glossary and other info about the four different houses that make up Orynthia! The first few chapters were a bit of a whirlwind with meeting our 2 protagonists, Luscia & Zaethan, who come from different houses and hence have different languages, upbring

4 intricate stars!

God, what a book! House of Bastiion was full of action, adventure, gorgeous world-building and stunning character development. The characters were ripe with strengths and flaws alike, and beautifully written, so utterly lifelike that it was incredible. And the world! It was confusing in the beginning, but once I’d worked out who everyone was and where they fit in, it was shockingly

Wow! 5/5 stars!

When writing a review, I start by thinking about what I didn’t like about a book. Usually, I am an easy to please reader, so writing down the things I didn’t like don’t take that much time. When writing my review for #HouseOfBastiion by #klkolarich I really had trouble coming up with something I disliked, because honestly? There is nothing!

This book is huge on the world-building, which I knew beforehand thanks to @k.l.kolarich , so of course it would take me a little longer gettin

This was one of those books that I couldn’t get out of my head, even days after reading it.

The world-building in this story is intricate and complex, and quite honestly, the first couple chapters had me overwhelmed. Seeing as each house has it’s own members, languages, and culture, it was a lot to initially grasp. But once I got my head wrapped around it all (I took a lot of notes and referenced her amazing website), I fell deep into this story and I was fascinated by all the detail.

World building? Oh yeah, this book has it in tons !
I admit that I had a tricky time pushing through the first chapters. Took me a while to get into the swing of things and I had to use the glossary a few times. After a while though the story started unfolding and we get a world full of intrigue, mystery and prejudice.
I really liked Luscia. She is not your usual heroine. I enjoyed her strength and will to find the serial killer.

If you are looking for world-building, look no further! Kolarich has crafted a world diverse in backgrounds and languages. There is a companion guide to help you along your journey as you dive into this incredible creation. While I did find this to be well done, it did distract me initially in my read. The first few chapters does feel a little like an information dump and while it was a little overwhelming I'm glad I kept pushing through. House Of Bastiion is a gripping high adult fantasy packed with lot of political intrigue, intricate magic system, the world building is complex and the author does not shy away from giving all the details of the world she had so meticulously built, the plot is also driven by multiple POV's which I have to admit is quite well done because with the world building so massive, adding multiple POV's can somet

House of Bastiion is the first installment in an immersive fantasy series revolving around character building, world building, and lots of political intrigue. K.L. Kolarich really draws the reader into this universe she has created, which has several different cultures that all interact with each other, including their own languages. The glossary of terms was very helpful throughout the book, but many times I found i didnt need it because of the context K.L. used in explaining everything in a wa ...more

House of Bastiion from K.L. Kolarich was a transportive and beguiling tale. This story, with it's lush world building and enamoring characters brought me on a journey the likes I have not seen before.

Kolarich had such a wonderful and lyrical way of writing that completely immersed me in this story of a group of young heirs to their respective thrones (their houses, if you will) all being brought together. We learn of many different realms and languages to each their own. They all have certain ta

I want to start this review by letting everyone know that we are facing something very big. K.L. Kolarich is going to give a lot to talk about, I would not be surprised if next year her name resonated with the force of a cannon. I loved learning about this world and how it was politically setup. The houses were amazing and it was so intriguing to learn about the different cultures within. This book captured my heart from the first couple pages. Even before then with the stunning cover.

This book has an expansive amount of world building. (Think Game of Thrones with the families and houses and settings) K.L. Kolarich has made this beautifully written world with an epic story line. For her debut book it blows my mind the amount of intricate details put into it.

House Of Bastiion is a high fantasy book, full of intricate world building. I would recommend this book to those who enjoy a double POV. Those love fantasy and mystery, and who love a book with a little royalty turmoil added.

Main character Luscia is dealing with the pressure of being an al'haidren to the house of Boreal, and not being accepted into the court society because of her lineage. On top of that, grisly

A gorgeous map, a mystery to keep me intrigued, and some solid political intrigue? K.L. Kolarich knows how to get me hooked on a book. I really can’t ever pass on a book with good politics – something about that kind of drama calls to me. While this first book didn’t have all that much romance, it did set the stage for future romances that I think have some wonderful potential. I think that the multiple POVs were all done really well, and the characters were well fleshed out with a fair balance ...more

The discrimination and political tension was really evident in this book, and I admired that for some reason. Also for the fact that the people with white skin were the ones discriminated against. I think it's a good subversion to the tropes of discrimination against people with colored skin. This also shows the reason behind discrimination, the fear agains

House of Bastiion is the debut novel of the author K.L. Kolarich. It is the first book in The Haidren Legacy. Orynthia is a Central Kingdom having four houses: House of Bastiion, House of Boreal, House of Darakai and House of Pilar. Two main characters are there in this story - Luscia Tiergan, al’Haidren to Boreal and Zaethan Kasim, al’Haidren to Darakai. The House of Boreal’s opposition to the House of Darakai had been constant for many centuries.
