Keen to help his friend recover from a particularly stressful case, Watson arranges for them to visit a friend in the country. But after a robbery baffles the local police, Holmes is drawn into a web of lies, blackmail and murder.
It's up to him to identify the villains if he survives the case, that is ...

A simplification of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, perfect for young fans of mystery books. A great introduction to classics for children aged 7+.

Holmes and Watson are trying to take a vacation in the country, but several robberies in the neighborhood end in murder, and only Holmes can unravel the clues.

This Sherlock Holmes mystery is retold and simplified for children ages 7-13. The story follows exactly the same story line as the original book by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, with much of the same dialogue and narration. Holmes and Watson are the same beloved characters that we know, and the mystery is just as suspenseful and thrilling as the original.

I loved how the writing style is simple, but is still vivid and energetic! The text is large, and there are a few definition boxes that explain terms or historical items that may be unfamiliar.

I loved the black and white illustrations that pop up every few pages. The cartoony style of the drawings is just right for this type of children's retelling, and gives an added flair to the story. The artwork is sometimes humorous and fun, making the story a little more lighthearted for young people.

I can't wait to revisit more Holmes stories in this children's series! This is an excellent way to introduce classics to elementary and middle grade readers!

Hi,

I hope all is progressing well.

Sherlock Holmes: The Reigate Squires, an adaptation by Stephanie Baudet with Arianna Bellucci as the Illustrator, originally by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is a murder mystery about the discovery of a murder in the midst of disputes between families/estates. I receive the book as a gift for National Teacher's Day (2023) from one of the students of a class I teach. I feel like I'm reading a book that one may consider as a children's book though with no separating chapters the text seems as though operating for a different reading pace that can easily navigate a lengthier story with less guiding points. I feel like the text is an ode to Sherlock Holmes (perhaps even to aspects of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's legacy) from the perspective of Watson that does not offer too much detail into the mystery for a reader to explore analytically beyond assumption (albeit other clues the story offers through illustrations of characters). I like helpful portions of a mystery that allow one to discover/uncover a mystery along the story as a detective might.

Onward and Upward,

Good way to introduce Sherlock Holmes to kids. But the language is still not so easy. Could have included more illustrations.

Without giving too much away, let's just say that Sherlockd's powers of deduction are a little over powered. It makes for a cute story though.

It worried me quite a bit in a good way because it looks like he's dead on the cover so I expected him to die throughout the book. I enjoyed the suspense and the twist.

The end :)
