Eva Alton is an award-winning author of paranormal romance, magical realism and paranormal women's fiction novels. She's the author of Stray Witch and The Vampires of Emberbury Series.
I adored this book. Alton never fails to deliver. I loved Witch's Mirror, but Alton has surpassed herself again, because this is even better. The characters are lovable, and the attraction between Alba and Clarence is nail biting. I respect Alton's writing style, it's easy and engaging. And the cliff hanger ending! Oh, my goodness. Excited for the final book in the series! Well done Eva Alton.
I AM BLOWN AWAY!! Once again, Eva Alton has outdone herself. I read this book in 3 days, and was literally pouting when I got to the epilogue, and now I’m in book hangover mode, knowing I’ll have to wait for the next book. I felt like I was on a carnival ride, with the ups and downs of Alba and Clarence’s continuing adventure. I laughed, I got mad, I squealed like a teenage girl. I was on the edge of my seat in some scenes. I’ve been left on cliffhangers before, but this was not one I was expecting. I was shocked and left with my mouth hanging open. What a wild ride this was, and this series only keeps building and building. I can’t wait to see where the next adventure takes these characters I’ve fallen in love with. EXCELLENT READ!!
Took me a while to read because my kids wouldnt leave me to it in peace but I loved this book! If I wrote anymore I will spoil it all. The ending! More more!
Eva Alton does it again, delivering an engaging and highly entertaining sequel in her The Vampires of Emberbury series. If you have not read them, then you are missing out on a real treat. Clarence, a somewhat reluctant vampire and Alba, a bumbling witch, share the undeniable spark of attraction. Clarence's 19th-century charm, coupled with his Vampire instincts, have made him a favourite of mine. While Alba hasn't a clue about being a witch, she pulls at your heart as she uses whatever power she possesses along with a willful determination to save those she loves, undead or alive. In this book, Alba finds herself with two allies, one that would cheerfully stake Clarence and another witch with a bit more wherewithal when it comes to magic. Their quest leads them by fate or folly to an ancient monastery high in the French Pyrenees. Why; to find a spell to break a spell.
Regardless it is closely and jealously guarded by a supreme coven of witches not about to help Alba save one of their most hated enemies, a vampire.
With death breathing down their necks, Alba is willing to risk everything, including her life, to save the man she loves, even if it means dressing up in a loathsome pink princess costume to do it and attend a Masquerade ball. Will this be the last dance? I most certainly hope not since Alton leaves you with a heart-rending cliffhanger.
Throughout this book are carefully crafted moments that will melt your heart, snatch your breath away and make you laugh. Well written and intriguing, Alton has fast become one of my favourite authors.
Why oh why do you torture us like this! Such a great continuation to this series, and though it ends on a cliffhanger it is still quite satisfying. Well done, already preordered the next book!
“Witches’ Masquerade” takes readers on a journey of magic, love, and sacrifice.
Alba returns home to Emberbury only to be forced to go back to the Old World on yet another impossible mission. Elizabeth, the vampire queen, is far from happy that two of her faithful subjects haven’t returned to the Cloister where they belong. And she makes it clear that it’s Alba’s problem to get them back.
Again, on the road – above the ocean, on the winter roads of the French Pyrenees that are full of natural dangers in addition to paranormal ones – Alba is rushing headlong into trouble. Nothing and no one, be it the forces of nature, ghosts asking for assistance, or the old coven of powerful witches, can stop her. Clarence, her beloved vampire, is about to succumb to death – again – but this time, for real, and Alba is ready to do any reckless thing if it gives her even a tiny chance to save him.
The ending of “Witches’ Masquerade” is both satisfying and disappointing, since it makes you crave for more. I’m certainly looking forward to reading where the devious fate will take Alba and Clarence next – after their relationship has been irreversibly transformed.
This third installment to Alton's "Vampires of Emberbury" series carries the same strong storytelling I've come to expect from the previous two, as well as the delightful side stories. While Carlos isn't my favorite character, he does add a certain levity to the story that would otherwise be absent amid the dark and dire straights our MCs find themselves in. And despite his presence, there are still a decent amount of Alba/Clarence moments to lose yourself in. Add to that an interesting plot and intriguing epilogue, and I was a happy reader. Well done!
The stakes have never been higher for our stray witch, Alba, and her beloved vampire, Clarence, in WITCHES' MASQUERADE. Engrossing and enthralling, Alton weaves her magic in this tale of life, death, and beyond, as Alba must reverse the curse that slowly is destroying her lover before he is lost to her forever. At turns sensual and seductive, the humor here shines through, too. This book never slows down, amping up to a conclusion that will leave you breathless. Cannot spoil the ending but I need the next book, pronto!
It was fun to follow Alba and Clarence again and very hard to put the book down until it was finally finished. So many twists and turns kept me from anticipating the direction. I’m looking forward to seeing where their next adventure takes them!
Alba and Clarence are back, and this time they are travelling to the South of France to retrieve an ancient grimoire, which is their only hope of defeating death! Clumsy witch Alba will have to deal with her growing powers, which are getting a little out of control, while Clarence will face VERY serious problems of his own...
This novel is the darkest in the series, and you can expect major shifts and an ending that will leave no one indifferent!
Another wonderful book by a very talented writer. Alton never fails to amaze me at how easy it is to read her books! Before you know it, you've been sucked into the story and you've almost finished it. Witches' Masquerade was everything I was hoping for in The Vampires of Emberbury Series. There was romance, supernatural beings, witty conversation, beautiful locations, and of course our much-loved bumbling witch, Alba. This book was hard to put down and filled with emotions. I'm already counting down until 2022 for the release of the final book in the series!
Thank you, Eva, for writing my new favourite witchy/vampire series!
Witches’ Masquerade (The Vampires of Emberbury #3) by Eva Alton is a paranormal women’s fiction novel told in first person dual POV. This book picks up where the previous one ended and continues Alba’s story as she sets off on another adventure, this time to procure an ancient grimoire and save Clarence’s life.
Maybe it’s because my most recent reads have been so intensely emotional… Or maybe it’s because Carlo played a prominent role in this book and I absolutely abhor him... But for whatever reason, despite my familiarity with the characters, I had difficulty connecting with them and struggled to get into the story. My interest started to gain hold, where I felt more invested, at around 70% to 80% into the story. I loved the scenes with Clarence and Francesca, and I loved the way everything ended. It left me wanting to know what would happen with Alba next.
Reviews are subjective, and our moods and emotions often affect the reading experience. Looking at the other reviews, my experience was clearly the minority, so if you enjoyed the previous two books, I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up this one too.
This series keeps getting better and better! Witches’ Masquerade follows Alba on her journey to solve the mysteries of the past and to find the long-lost spell which will save the love of her life. Alton’s writing is poetic, and it lures you into the love story between these two wonderful, but broken characters. You can’t help but feel for tortured Clarence, whose whole existence now is fraught with pain and self-loathing. Alba, on the other hand, is so beautifully awkward in her attempts to accept the love she is offered.
The locations Alton takes us on in her books are breath-taking, and in Witches’ Masquerade you can fully imagine yourself wandering the monastery in the secluded town of the French Pyrenees. Alton has set up some fabulous twists for the final book in the series, and I cannot wait for the day that I have the whole saga of The Vampires of Emberbury sitting proudly on my shelf. This is definitely a series you don’t want to miss out on!
Witches’ Masquerade by Eva Alton is the third book in the Vampires of Emerbury series. It continues the story of the stray witch Alba and the vampire Clarence, who have to travel to the French Pyrenees to find a grimoire that contains a vital counter-curse.
Will Alba be able to find the book in time? And will she be capable of casting the life-saving spell?
Just like Eva Alton’s earlier books, this installment is extremely well-written and hard to put down. The characters are vivid, making it easy for the reader to identify with them. I especially liked how the author builds up tension throughout the book, which holds the reader’s attention and encourages them to continue. Although this novel is quite long, I finished it in two days because I couldn’t wait to find out what happened to the characters.
Another fascinating chapter of Alba's journey! This installment reads with the blistering pace of a first-rate thriller, while packing in the sweet moments and relationship development that I find so irresistible about this series. Also, I don’t want to spoil anything, but the ending--oh my goodness!! I’m SO excited for Book 4, and I think that any fan of vampire fiction and/or paranormal romance will definitely want to indulge in these outstanding stories!
I absolutely LOVE this book! Eva Alton once again manages to blow people away with her incredible storytelling and writing. Alba is such a beguiling character, and her arc is simply spectacular. An absolute page turner! 10/10
5 Stars is not worthy of this book! This should be a platinum Star rating! WOW! I’m just blown away with this series. I’ve never left reviews before, but this one is deserving. Clarence, what can I say? He’s one of my latest book boyfriends. And Alba, how can you not fall in love with her, with them together? These characters just draw you in and they become a part of you. This series is the most unique spin on vampires and witches. It’s completely genuine and unlike anything else. It’s not a carbon copy of all the others. It has laughter, suspense, mystery, romance, danger, intrigue, on the edge of your seat scenes. I love it! If you haven’t read the Stray Witch series… you are missing out! Well done Eva Alton. You have earned a new fan. I’m ready for the next book with such an ending! BRAVO!! EXCELLENT READ!!!
Oh my gosh, this one! I think it's the best in the series! Once again, Eva Alton ensnares you with her words and doesn't let go! The pace never slows down or grows dull, the humor will keep you chuckling, you will fall deeper in love with the characters (even fear for them), and an ending that will take your breath away. I couldn't put this book down!
Tan emocionante, no me esperaba la transformacion del final XD La historia es tan interesante, quiero saber que va a pasar con Clarence y si va a ser desterrado del Claustro
