This handbook includes more than 600 stunning color photographs showing rocks, minerals, and gems from all over the world. Each specimen is described in its origin and structure, chemical composition, hardness, color, and other properties.
Identification of rocks, minerals, and gemstones. Rock and mineral, including history, origin, structure, composition and where in the world it originates from. In my opinion the pictures help to get an idea on what kind of rock, mineral, and gemstone one would be looking at.
Great book bought it while was on a trip to Santa Cruz, Ca. Great reference book read it the entire way back to the East coast on the plane. Great selection of pictures also.
It's a good reference book. There's a lot of beginner level basic stuff, which is helpful because I'm new to this field. Someone else might not find it so helpful.
At the start it claims to specifically be for rock collectors so it is focused on identifying rocks, where one can find them, and stuff like that.
A significant chunk of the book is pictures for the rocks listed which is also helpful for fixing words to images.
