Who has time to date when she’s trying to raise a miniature human by herself AND save the planet from its irresponsible inhabitants? Not to mention my winning personality (snort) and my curves-have-curves figure (eyeroll) don’t exactly attract the opposite sex. Unfortunately, none of these reasons have stopped my best friends and SoCal sewing sisters from taking on the archaic role of matchmakers, and they’re not beneath a little bribery if that’s what it takes to get my cooperation. Let’s just say everyone has their weak spot, and donations to my favourite charities is mine.
If I were to consider a romantic relationship, my dream guy certainly wouldn’t be immature, everything-is-a-game Dr. Drew Bauer. The man raises my body temperature faster than global warming does the Earth’s! But life seems determined to keep throwing us together, especially now that one of my SoCal sewing sisters is engaged to his best friend, in which case there can only be one of two outcomes:
1. I kill him in a fit of annoyance.
2. My common sense escapes me, and I fall in love with him.
A Carol award finalist and Selah award winner, Sarah Monzon is a stay-at-home mom who makes up imaginary friends to have adult conversations with (otherwise known as writing novels). As a navy chaplain's wife, she resides wherever the military happens to station her family and enjoys exploring the beauty of the world around her.
Based on "meeting" all the other ladies in the SoCal series in the previous two books, I wasn't so sure I'd get along with Nicole. But you know what? She's awesome. Sure, she's loud and brash and opinionated and even a little hard-headed. But you know what else? She also fiercely loves and fights for what she believes in as a loyal friend who works to see the best in others and in herself, despite the occasional insecurity that rears its head. She's a warrior I admire, and I found myself wishing for the third time that I could leap into these books and befriend these women.
Two favorite quotes: "So basically, in our group dynamics I was the essence of Ross and his dinosaurs from Friends. Great." (Such a totally Nicole observation, and hilariously accurate.)
"Whoever said asking for consent before a kiss wasn't romantic had never been asked by Drew Bauer." (Trust me, she's right.)
And before this book even gets released, for those who might already be wondering about Nicole's hyper-environmental concerns and other social issues—Ms. Monzon addresses things naturally from different angles, God-honoringly, without apparent bias, and for that should be applauded. I'd like to see more Christian authors take this approach to navigating today's world as a believer who makes following Christ a priority.
I received an ARC of this book with absolutely no expectation to read or review. Every ounce of this review is willingly and authentically given!
Sometimes a book falls in your lap and turns out to be a pleasant surprise. This is marketed as an inspirational, and certainly the characters have faith and there's a few Bible verses tossed into the mix - but this is your basic enemy-to-lovers rom/com. The heroine is a single mom with an ex who keeps breaking promises to their kid and is a socially conscious, electric car driving, vegan save the whales sort. The hero is a doctor and Mr. Light-Hearted Fun who thinks she needs to loosen up.
A couple things I really appreciated - this book is socially "aware" without being preachy (athletes kneeling at sporting events, black men racially profiled by police are both mentioned). I enjoy reading the occasional inspirational but like a lot of romance it doesn't always feel like it operates in what the reader would recognize as "present day." It's a tricky tight-rope for an author to walk and I finished this book thinking "I'd like to hang out with these people. I could have conversations with these people."
There's a number of secondary characters given this is part of a series but I never felt like they took over the story. They added to it and it was a great book showcasing female friendships. First time reading this author, not the last.
I came to this book by the cover but fell in love with the content.
It tells the story of Nicole, who after separating, struggles to raise her daughter, run her business, contribute to her friend's wedding, and save the environment in the process.
Nicole meets Drew, the best friend of her best friend's fiancé, and at first he seems unpleasant but soon she will discover that Drew is much more than he seems.
I loved the author's way of narrating, it is easy and light without many ornaments but it manages to hook you to the story.
The characters seem fantastic to me: Drew the doctor who is handsome but is not stereotyped and Nicole a normal woman who is proud of being the way she is (although sometimes she doubts a bit, but who has not?).
I melted with this story and it carried a quality feeling in my heart.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This absolute adorable book will have you weak at the knees, in a good way. The quips, the humor, encompassing hard topics without drama all throughout, I fell in love. When I finished it, I was so sad as I wanted more and more. I wanted to hear about about the whole group, but each one, I fall in love a little bit more. I enjoyed how the author wove critical topics of our time into the story, and picking up on the struggle of raising a child with an absent father, while not speaking poorly of them. It was well done, so well done.
I obtained this book through the author. All opinions contained herein are my own.

Contemporary Romance : ⭐️⭐️⭐️
First I was interested in this solely because...well look at this cover! It's gorgeous. This novel was sweet and cute. The relationship between our MCs was believable and made you root for their HEA. Nothing to complain about here.
I couldn't wait to brag about Nicole ya'll! She's the coolest ever! I loved Nicole! Her outgoing no nonsense ways tickled me pink! She doesn't beat around the bush about anything and tells it like it is. Monzon once again writes a good novel that I enjoyed so much! Monzon's books are such a delight to read! Her writing is so entertaining! She makes you laugh in the most unexpected places. I finished this book in an hour. I really didn't want to leave the characters especially Nicole! Not sure why the author thinks we won't like her but after you get to know her like I did well, let's just say she's different and I love different. She sticks up for herself. I like that. I loved all the other books in this series too but this book y'all it's got character. I highly recommend! This book will make you snicker a lot! My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
This series is one of Sarah Monzon's best. Each book keeps getting better and better. I love enemies to lovers trope and with Nicole and Drew you get a little feist, witty dialogue, and a whole lot of lol moments. But there are also some deep issues that Monzon is great at weaving into her fiction. I may have even teared up at a couple of scenes.
*I'm Sarah's critique partner and read this book ahead of time. However, I loved it so much I purchased my own copy to reread.
Such a fun story! I absolutely loved Drew and his teasing nature. He sure knew how to rile Nicole up. They develop some sweet chemistry after Nicole lets down her guard and begins to acknowledge that there's more to Drew than she gave him credit for. It was nice to see her realize with each layer she uncovers how great of a guy he is, even if his car isn't electric ;)
The only reason I didn't rate this book five stars was how difficult it was for me to connect with Nicole. She's passionate about the environment and social issues, which is great, but her attitude of superiority was a pretty big turn off. Chapter three is full of preachy "woke" perspective disguised as normal conversation, which would have made me ditch the book if it wasn't one I'd signed up to review. Drew helps soften Nicole's rough edges over time and she begins to relax, but then she made comments in her narration toward the end of the book that still showed that same attitude of condescension, which made me roll my eyes. I think it helped that the author included Nicole's crazy mom to show the influences that affected her upbringing, but it made me wonder why Nicole embraced her mother's philosophies when she resented her and recognized how unhealthy it was. The biggest favor Drew did for Nicole was point out how she was doing the exact same thing to her own daughter Sierra.
Overall, I enjoyed the romance and Drew's personality, but felt that Nicole would have been a more relatable character if she was portrayed as an advocate without the elitism.

Another delightful installment of the Sewing in SoCal series. I loved the many laugh-out-loud moments! It was just what the doctor ordered. (Seriously though, I may need a doctor since I was laughing so hard my husband even heard me wheezing.)
First lines of "Nicole" by Sarah Monzon: "It is a truth universally unacknowledged that not every woman who is single is in want of a husband. And I really wished my sewing sisters would get that through their thick skulls."
Nicole at first glance is a very opinionated, save-the-earth vegan. But underneath she is passionate and she's teaching her daughter generosity, and to help those who are less fortunate. I love how Romans 12:13 "When God's people are in need, be ready to help them," and St. Teresa of Avila shape how she's raising her daughter. "Christ has no body now but yours. No hand, no feet on Earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion in this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which he blesses all the world."
Seriously, the humor sprinkled throughout was my favorite part. With her sewing friends: "We were close-the best of friends-but paramedics would have to cut me out of my clothes before I'd reveal the rolls of my muffin top or the thunderous thickness of my thighs." And with the funny and charming Dr. Drew and the floor- is-lava incident. I could not stop laughing. The kind of laughing while reading where your family looks at you like you've lost it.
Such a fun series, I look forward to the next installment!
Thank you to the author and publisher for letting me read an early copy of Nicole. All opinions are my own.
Um...I think I've found my new best friend. Nicole is by far my favorite read of the series, which I have said about both previous reads, but seriously. Nicole is the BEST! First of all, she has curves. And while many readers may not care about that, this curvy read is always look for leading ladies that are not the "Hollywood-norm". I want some curves, I want some meat on their bones! LOL. For that reason alone I instantly connected with her.
Now, Nicole did have some quirks about her. At first, I almost felt like she was one of those over-doers when it came to conservation and saving the planet. But then Monzon surprises me with an explanation that kind of took my breath away. I have never looked at it from this perspective (sorry not spoiling it here for ya), but now I kind of do. Talk about an eye opening experience I wasn't expecting, or ready for!
That aside, wow I loved the chemistry between Nicole and Drew. OH. MY. GOODNESS. ***swoon*** I just love it when characters banter, push each other's buttons, and get riled up. It is my favorite kind of romance story. But then you add in Nicole's sweet daughter, and you see this whole other side of Drew that I honestly didn't expect to find. Yeah, he's a hunky hero alright. On Sarah Monzon, you make it so hard for guys in real life lol!
Okay, I can't really say any more with totally spoiling the storyline, so I am just going to stop right here. You need to read this book. In fact, you need to read this series. It is fantastic!!! Highly recommend. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
"But just as a man needs to give a woman support to shine, he needs to protect her so no one else can blow out her light."
Oh, when I thought I couldn't love these sewing circle sisters any more than I already do, Nicole and Drew step into the spotlight and make me fall in love with them even more! With her trademark wit and humor, Sarah Monzon brings another well-written and enchanting romcom to delight our senses. As with all of her other books, there is depth to the plot with serious topics and painful events that shape and mold the characters woven throughout. Nicole's struggle with body image and Drew's defeated resignation about his lot in life were heart-breaking and so real. Nicole, though still passionate in her quest to make the world a better place, learns to let go a little to enjoy life and Drew's deep, thoughtful, tender and compassionate nature surfaces to overshadow his veneer of happy-go-lucky nonchalance. Drew's relentless pursuit of Nicole is quite romantic and his absolute, unwavering commitment to Nicole and her daughter Sierra is swoon-worthy.
I also enjoyed catching up with Ben and Molly, Malachi and Jocelyn, and the rest of the sewing circle sisters. Drew's sister and her family added another layer of fun and comedy to the plot. If you enjoy romantic comedy, this book is a must-read!
I received a copy of the book from the author and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
highly entertaining and humorous This book, Nicole, is the third book in the series. I'd read the first, but have yet to read the second. When I started reading this book, I didn't really remember who Nicole was or what her story was. But, the longer I read, the more I remembered. When I read the first book, I didn't really like Nicole. Her personality was too strong, too much for me. This book, however, because it is from her point of view (as well as the hero's), you get to see who she is on the inside, and I did come to understand her a bit more. I don't think I could say she's my favorite heroine, but as I grew to understand her hurts, her inner struggles, I liked her more than I had previously. Nicole is a strong person because she's had to go through hard times in her life. This book is humorous, while also giving a look at some heart issues that are true to life. A fun, light read, if you're looking for something along those lines. Disclaimer: I receive complimentary books from various sources, including, publishers, publicists, authors, and/or NetGalley. When I first met the character Nicole (way back when I was reading Molly) she struck me as a crusader. She was always on some cause lambasting those who did not feel, or react, as passionately as she did. But then I read this book...
Sarah Monzon did a great job fleshing out Nicole's character. She was more than a woman passionate about many causes. She had hurts, fears, and insecurities like every woman. She second-guessed some of the choices she made and had wrong views about people.
What started as a clash of wills between her and Drew, mellowed into something sweet and true and you couldn't help smiling as you watched their relationship turn into something that looks as though it could stand the test of time.
One of the themes explored in Nicole is our social responsibility. As stewards of God's creation what have we done to protect--or destroy--this earth? How have we made life better for someone else?
Nicole is book 3 in the Sewing in SoCal series. It may be read as a standalone but is better in sequence as each book builds on the ones before. I look forward to reading the rest of the series (please let there be other books in the series) as I thoroughly enjoy the characters and their stories.
I received an advanced reader's copy from the publishers through NetGalley; a positive review was not required.
I could not wipe the smile off of my face while reading this book! This is the first time that I have read this author and I can't wait to read more.
Drew and Nicole are like oil and water. She is a divorced mom who is pretty straight laced. Drew is a physician who is super laid back and silly. Will Nicole keep up her walls around her heart?
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.
This one is a little "different" than a traditional romcom, but I loved it. If you're looking for something G rated and wholesome, definitely check this one out. I love a good enemies to lovers storyline and I loved how Drew always supported Nicole from the very beginning, even when she didn't realize it. I LOVED that Nicole is portrayed as she is - she is a woman who is self-conscious in her body, passionate about her views, and passionate about her daughter!
*Thank you to NetGalley, Sarah Monzon, and BooksGoSocial for my free ereader ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!*
I’m not going to lie, I wanted to read this book simply because of its title. I love when I get to read about characters who have my name. I know that’s goofy, but I’m a goof! The fact that it’s a Sarah Monzon novel just guaranteed it was going to be a great read. Nicole was the super-fun, highly engaging read I needed to escape into this past Thanksgiving. It has everything I’ve come to love in Monzon’s writing — a fast-paced plot that kept me turning pages voraciously, well-crafted characters who are equal parts endearing, unique, and realistic, witty banter between the hero and heroine, and discussions on timely themes and ideas. Nicole is a great Contemporary Romance that I recommend wholeheartedly.
What I enjoyed the most about this story is the discussion on perception. Why are we humans SO quick to judge before getting to know someone? Why do we focus on physicality and skin color and hairstyle and fashion sense and sex appeal when we first meet others? There is a fantastic scene at the very beginning of the story where Nicole is judged immediately for her sex appeal and is found wanting. It is such an angry-making scene I wanted to jump into the novel and throat-punch the jerk-face judger. Of course, I didn’t jump into the book, I just forced my husband to listen to me as I discoursed on the fate of shallow, ignorant, self-focused men. He was thrilled to listen, I’m sure of it. Don’t stress about Nicole — she is perfectly capable of taking care of herself and adequately putting this meanie-head into his proper place. But what I love about this scene is who is watching. Dr. Drew Bauer just so happens to be at this restaurant when this awful encounter ensues. He sees and hears everything and wants to pummel the guy for being so shallow and rude. Instead, Drew decides to be Nicole’s “date” once the rude man leaves her before their date ever really began. Drew and Nicole appear to be nemeses. Drew drives Nicole crazy because he loves to push her buttons. Drew is a doctor. Doctors observe, listen, test, and diagnose. Drew has discovered that what Nicole really needs is to lighten up and allow some fun into her life. But he didn’t come at this conclusion because of initial encounters. No, Drew took the time to get to know Nicole and realize that she needs her buttons pushed to get her out of her comfort zone — being serious ALL the time. Drew’s actions are a great reminder for all of us — we need to stop judging by initial meetings and shallow dictates and instead judge by the content of the whole package. Especially in today’s age, I feel this is a lesson we all must take to heart immediately. Our shallow perceptions are doing some really bad things to our society.
Nicole is a really fun and easy-going Contemporary Romance that will leave readers feeling satisfied and smiley. There’s introspection, reflection, and discussion on serious things. There’s laughter and button pushing and banter. And there is friendship and romance. Nicole has it all and I HIGHLY recommend this read.
Note: While Nicole is the third story in the Sewing in SoCal series, it is a stand-alone story and can be read easily without having to read books 1 and 2. However, I do recommend reading the books in order because Nicole and Drew’s at-odds-with-one-another relationship begins in book 1. At the very least, understand that when Drew sits down at Nicole’s table in chapter 1 it is not the first time they have met.
I received a copy of this novel in eBook form from the author, Sarah Monzon, via NetGalley in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
While the girls from the sewing circle prepare for Molly’s wedding, Drew has caught Nicole’s eye. She tries to resist his charms but then Drew ends up coaching her daughter’s football team and they are thrown together more often than Nicole feels comfortable with. Nicole is a strong, opinionated character and she may not be everyone’s cup of tea but this is an enjoyable book to read and the author’s writing talent shines through, as always. This is a clean, Christian romance.
Sarah Monzon's Sewing in SoCal series has enough laugh-out-loud moments to qualify it as comedy fiction, and enough depth in the characters to qualify it as women's fiction, AND enough swoony moments to qualify it as romance. Whatever you call it, I'm glad I picked this up.
The opening scene in Nicole is worth the price of the book! Nicole Applegate is a curvy, tree-hugging activist whose friends have bribed her into a blind date. IF she makes it through without walking out, they will contribute to one of her favorite causes. How hard can it be? The ensuing mayhem is hilariously funny, and yet, Nicole's hurting heart shines through. She's been judged for her size, for the causes she supports - you name it - but when her "date" orders extra fries (because he's SURE the chubby girl will be stealing some from his plate) she lets fly and takes no prisoners.
Enter Dr. Drew Bauer. Handsome, hunky Dr. Drew could have any woman he wants with no more than a wink their way. Why then, does he show up to rescue her "date" from the dumpster? He's the best friend of her friend Molly's fiancé and will be best man in their wedding. When she discovers he's also her daughter's football coach, Nicole begins to look at him with a bit more respect. He's always been the "life of the party" but is there a more serious side that he hides from everyone?
Drew has had a thing for Nicole since he met her. He LIKES the curves. He LIKES her passionate activism for causes most would deem nuts. Her "Save the Chubby Unicorns" bumper sticker makes him smile. Unfortunately, he can't get her to take him seriously. He's been badly hurt in the past so it's hard to trust another woman with his heart, but if anyone could protect it, it's the fierce Nicole. His pain hides behind his smile. Can he get Nicole to see past her own hurt to the man who just might be her match?
I. LOVED. THIS. STORY!! I can't recommend this series enough.
4.5 stars I wasn’t sure how much I was going to like this book because I hadn’t read any of Ms. Monzons books but I ended up loving it. Nicole is the third book in Sarah Monzon’s Sewing in SoCal series. Nicole is just trying to juggle raising her daughter and saving the earth from irresponsible inhabitants, she doesn’t have time to date. Not to mention the her winning personality and the fact that her curves have curves that doesn't exactly attract the opposite sex. She wouldn’t ever consider Dr. Drew Bauer as her dream guy, but life seems determined to throw them together. The more time Nicole spends with Drew, she finds her common sense escaping her and starts to fall in love. This was a funny and sweet book. Nicole was hilarious and I loved her outspoken behavior. She was kind, but she didn't beat around the bush. She was really passionate about saving the earth and taking care of the planet. However, she was also vulnerable and she was just trying to do her best raising her daughter, Sam. She wasn’t looking for love, but the more time she spends with Drew she finds herself falling for him. She knew that she didn't measure up to people’s standard, and she didn’t care but some days it was harder than others. Drew was a sweetheart, however, he hid it behind humor and jokes. He liked Nicole from the start and enjoyed pushing her bottoms. But before Drew knew it he was head over heels for not only Nicole but also her daughter. He loved them like his own and he wanted to care for them. I really liked Drew and it was fun to read about his family. His past wasn’t all sunshine and flowers, but he had learned to overcome the trials thrown at him Drew and Nicole were a cute couple. But they did have to work through their differences. Nicole had to figure out how to trust Drew and learn that he was not like her ex husband. Drew needed to fight for Nicole and learn how to best help Nicole as she raises her daughter. I loved their relationship and the development that it went through. Nicole’s friends were super fun and now I want to read the other books. I also adored Sam, Nicole’s daughter. Nicole was a great book! And I really enjoyed it! Nicoel is a clean rom-com, that had hints of faith. I would definitely recommend this book and I can't wait to see what else comes in the series!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher through Netgalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, a positive review was not required.
As a divorced mom busy raising a daughter on one hand and trying to save Planet Earth on the other, Nicole hasn't got time for dating. But her sewing-sisters circle insists on playing matchmakers, even if Drew, a doctor who annoys Nicole out of her skull, isn't exactly what the sisters have in mind in Nicole by author Sarah Monzon.
Admittedly, I can only do a few contemporary romances a year nowadays. I tend to burn out on some of the unsurprising elements that show up in a lot of them, so I have to be selective. The expressive, vibrant, and thoroughly fun illustrated cover on this ChristFic romantic comedy, with a bespectacled and stylish heroine I heard is a plus-size gal, convinced me to give this read a go.
Now, while the switch from the serious to the more frivolous comes off as rather insensitive at one point in the story, I appreciate that this author doesn't avoid addressing serious issues even in a story that's on the lighter side overall.
Nicole and Drew are interesting characters with contrasting sides to them. And to be frank, I especially like how this romance doesn't take the "jumping to huge conclusions and overreacting" route to contrive a dramatic climax.
This read is sure to please fans of sweet contemporary romance. ____________ I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley for an honest review.
A cute and quick rom com about a single mother who is guarded and a doctor who is trying to win her affections. I related to Nicole, being a single mom and not used to being in the dating world. I too recently started dating again after five years of being single. I've finally found love again and had to open up to a complete stranger and include him in not just my life, but my child's as well. So yes, I liked this story because I could to relate to it. I wish there was more to this story, I felt like there wasn't enough relationship development for the character's story line.
I’ve really enjoyed the Sewing in So Cal series and I want more of these friends. Author Sarah Monzon has written the best of the three with Nicole’s story, and that’s saying a lot. You could read this as a stand alone but don’t. You’ll miss out on a lot of nuances if you do. Plus, Molly and Jocelyn have great stories of their own.
The characters in this story grew on me. I wasn’t even sure I could like Nicole at first. She’s very strong willed and opinionated. And not afraid to share that opinion. But I grew to love her as she dealt with being body shamed and showed her vulnerable side. A great reminder not to judge by the cover! And Dr. Drew had some maturing to do but I liked him. He tried so hard to win Nicole. All of the characters are great and it was fun to have the “people” from books 1 and 2 present in book 3.
If you enjoy a good rom-com with depth then I highly recommend Nicole. You won’t be disappointed.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
I think Nicole is my favorite of the sewing sisters! She's got such personality! Not that the other's don't but Nicole is not afraid to be who she is. Whether she's saving trees or caring for her daughter, Sierra, Nicole is one hundred percent all in. That is until she meets Drew.
Drew is a great hero and his personality along with Nicole's created some great banter and a lot of laugh out loud moments.
Sarah Monzon is a very talented author whose work does not disappoint. I have loved every book of her's I've read. I enjoy how all the sewing sisters make an appearance.
I am so looking forward to the next installment of this series.

I received this ARC by the author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
I love real women empowerment in books! Not the kind that tells us we are not weak at all, but rather the one that encourages us to seek the power within our weaknesses. This book is all that! I'm already curious about the bad reviews this book will get, because I know people will not like Nicole Applegate! She's strong, independent, resilient, and has a heart of gold, but she's all the way into her passions.
As a believer who's been struggling with the teachings, social views and practices of modern Christianity, I was completely stoked by Nicole's approach to it. It's not about me, it's about others. It's about loving your neighbor, being a good steward of God's creation, caring for others, caring for animals, caring for the earth. The fact that she was passing that onto her daughter with her example and not just with her words was incredibly touching. I was happy and touched by how the author approached so many different topics that would be labeled as “political” or “controversial” for modern Christians but that in the end are areas where Christianity has a responsibility and should take action! That alone would've made the book so good to me! But as a Romance, it had to check other boxes too, and it did, all the way! First and foremost, this book just crowned the Single Parent trope as one of my favorites. It’s one of the most realistic ones ─in my opinion─ since it requires so much respect, patience, and acceptance to make that kind of relationship work, and maybe that’s why books with this trope can get very emotional. This book wasn’t an exception.
Drew and Nicole were genuinely hilarious! I laughed out loud from the opening line to the last page. Drew and Nicole's sarcasm was flirtatious but not insulting nor objectifying way. The dialogue flowed naturally and it didn't feel as though the author was trying too hard to sound funny, making the chemistry between them so intriguing that made me keep turning the pages.
Now Drew! The guy had me smiling from start to finish. He didn’t crumble her walls, he melted them with the reassurance she didn’t get too often. Although he made many mistakes trying to win her trust, he always had the best intentions at heart. He never diminished her works and efforts, he encouraged her and admired her for being such a great mom and loving human being. He never implied Nicole’s efforts for advocacy were ridiculous or pointless, he just wanted her to have a safe place to rest when it became too much. I loved how he always put Sierra in the first place. He loved and admired both of them equally and fell in love with them as a family and wanted to be part of the team, because he also had a giving heart in his own way. He might’ve not been so vocal about what he was doing for others as Nicole, but he sure knew how to pour out love to others. That’s the point of advocating for change after all… Love on your neighbor, love for animals, love for the earth.
I can’t wrap up this review without talking about Sierra! A lovely girl and a warrior! I believe moms like Nicole deserve daughters like Sierra. She was obedient and respectful but also knew exactly what she was capable of and what she wanted. She is an example of what this society needs to be teaching little girls. We can do everything but sometimes we need a little help! I loved how she looked up to her mom and wanted her to be happy. Her relationship with Drew was exactly what she needed to cope with all the issues with her absent dad and I loved how in the end Drew stood up for her.
This sweet romantic comedy was all that and more! I haven’t read the rest of the series but every single second character was appealing to me, so I know I will definitely be reading more of this author.
