A gift from my mother-in-law as she knows I like plants. :)
The author's effort is appreciated and makes for a decent quick reference book for true beginners, especially those who have never bought or cared for a plant.
Downsides are that there's a bit of unnecessary repetition (I suppose for length), could use chapters on identifying and treating pests and disease, chapters with images helping to identify plants since many places sell plants without ID, and all the information is readily available online, but again, its brevity makes the book a fair choice for referencing details. Certainly suits its purpose as an introductory manual!

Cultivate a Green Thumb with Houseplants
I grew up as a child in the late 70s and early 80s, so I never realized that growing houseplants went out of fashion and has now become in vogue again. That's just one little fun factoid that you will learn in this book. This book is simple and well organized. First, the author talks about how to care for houseplants, like how and when to water (including seasonal considerations) and common mistakes to avoid (loved this section!). Then he goes over the best indoor plants and follows this up by talking about succulents. As can happen with any container-living plant, you will need to repot it as it grows; he has a full chapter on that. But I think the most interesting chapter was the one on edible plants you can grow as houseplants. I hadn't really thought of growing edible plants indoors except for certain herbs; he offers 28 suggestions (yes, including some herbs)! The author writes in a friendly and conversational style. He comes across as a knowledgeable friend sharing his houseplant tips and insights with you (as well as his enthusiasm for houseplants!) though he doesn’t shy away from using scientific names and terms. I love nonfiction books that are so conversational and still weave in a little science. The only downside to this book is that it doesn't have many photographs—I would have loved to have seen more—and those that are in my PDF ARC copy are black and white. Houseplants can be so colorful; it would have been lovely to see more of them and in color. If you feel like your knowledge of houseplants, including how to care for and choose them, needs a little tune-up, this book could well serve your purposes.

Did you know houseplants not only make your house look nicer in general, but also give it an air of sophistication? I know; all houseplants do this. But there are certain houseplants that do this even better than others, and houseplants 101 is here to show you which houseplants to get! It's important to remember that houseplants aren't just for looks; they also improve indoor air quality!
Everyone knows houseplants require sunlight, but houseplants 101 also teaches you about the other factors that affect houseplants: water, temperature, and soil. Sometimes houseplants need more of these factors than others! Maybe you give your houseplant too much water, or maybe it's not enough. Maybe your houseplant likes humidity, or maybe it doesn't! You'll know after reading houseplants 101.
I have received a paperback version as a present from my friend and I have just ordered the hardback copy as the cover is so beautiful I will have this as my new "coffee table book" on display near my beautiful houseplants.

The Houseplants 101 Book is an informative introduction to indoor house plants. The author uses terms throughout the text like soil type, potting mix, heating/humidity levels for growing conditions, watering, light (levels), temperature (heating) considerations for different species. There are photographs featured of different plants along with explanations about their care needs. The whole purpose of this guide is to help get readers started on caring for their own jungle at home - which would mean they grow beautiful little pockets of life indoors getting some air circulating while avoiding cold drafts or direct sunlight! This book doesn't delve too deeply into any one topic but it does cover quite a lot - from choosing the best plants that suit your home to nurturing them and providing expert plant care. There are also a couple of pages at the back, one listing recommended houseplants for specific rooms and another which lists some tropical houseplants not found in many other books.

Maybe I won't kill the next succulent I bring into my house???
I am always interested in browsing new books about houseplants. As with most people I have a love/hate relationship with some of my plants. So I like to learn more if I can about how to pick and care for certain plants. Houseplants 101 by Peter Shepperd is an easy to read book that does contain some good information about houseplants. I liked the section on succulents as I have some that are outdoors in the garden but I have always killed any that I have had as houseplants. But with this book I fell like I can try again and maybe not have another plant that I buy die on me.
I would recommend this book to add to your library of houseplant books.

This is a really helpful guide for anyone who needs some advice on caring for their houseplants.
Houseplants 101 covers everything, from picking the right plants for your space and making them fit right in with decorative pots and hanging baskets to how, of course, keep them alive!
I also really appreciated that they included tips for what to do when you've made a mistake and killed your plant.
Houseplants 101 is definitely helpful, especially for people who are just beginning to take up the hobby or have little knowledge about it. There are so many interesting facts in here too.

What an informative books on houseplants! Especially now that we’re spending more time at home, I noticed our lack of greenery and wanted to do something about it. This book covers everything - including watering, humidity, temperature, how to pick a healthy plant, pest control, styling and edible plants. This book helped me get started on my indoor garden and so far, so good! Easy to understand and includes photos. 5 stars.

oddly addicting
If you have any interest in houseplants or gardening, then you need this book. Full of great tips and tricks to help maintain and diagnose issues before they take out your plants. The pictures are inspirational and will quickly fill you with a desire to spend your whole paycheck on plants. Great book!

Pretty wild ROI on this - I went from having no houseplant experience to being not-bad in the span of a few hours of audio that I consumed while doing other things. I have no doubt I would have gotten more out of the book in physical form, but this was a very productive audio experience.

Not enough pictures
Good book for how to look after houseplants. I feel he tried to pack too much in though. I would have preferred more detail on the most common houseplants and more photos to help with identification.

Loved this, plane and simple. I have always struggled with houseplants and I stopped getting them as gifts because it was a joke amongst my friends that they would eventually die. Not anymore!!
