Kindness is something we all have to give and that we all need, regardless of status or background.
The current global effort to protect our communities’ most vulnerable people shows how kindness spreads and that when we are kind to others it lifts our spirits. In The Kindness Journal, Jaime Thurston, founder of the charity 52 Lives, will motivate and inspire you to practice kindness as much for your own wellbeing as for the wellbeing of others.
The book will help you to cultivate kindness habits, with simple exercises that make a positive impact on others and yourself, and provides a place for you to acknowledge and remind yourself how being kind to others makes you feel. Through prompts suggesting simple actions, inspirational quotes and scientifically supported facts, you will learn of the positive effect kindness has on our physical and mental health.
52 Lives is a registered charity that has been changing a life every week since 2013, with the support of almost 100,000 strangers who work collectively to help a person in need of some kindness. Through the charity, Jaime sees first-hand the impact kindness has, not only on those we are kind to, but on us when we are kind.
Jaime is the founder of 52 Lives - a charity and global movement that aims to change a life every week and spread kindness.
What started as a simple Facebook page encouraging her friends and family to help people changed overnight after Jaime was featured on ITV's Surprise Surprise. Soon after, 52 Lives became a registered charity and now has almost 100,000 supporters around the world.
Jaime is originally from Australia. She began her career as a journalist, before moving to the UK, where she worked for a Member of the European Parliament, a wildlife charity and an organisation that supported families of prisoners. She was a Member of the Independent Monitoring Board for a local prison, and a Trustee of a Richmond-based charity that helped isolated groups of people. She now runs 52 Lives and recently launched a School Kindness Project, aiming to empower children to make a difference in the world through kindness.
Jaime was named Clarins Most Dynamisante Woman of the Year in 2016. She also received a Points of Light Award from former UK Prime Minister David Cameron and a Richmond Community Award for her work.
Jaime lives in Berkshire with her partner Greig and her three children, Abbey, Max and Joseph.
Thank you so much to the author, publisher and Lovebookstours for gifting me a copy of The Kindness Journal in exchange for an honest review.
This really caught my eye as I am all for improving your mental health and having a positive mental attitude. This handy little book is filled with gorgeous vivid pictures, quotes and simple journal exercises to improve your daily life. The book centres around kindness, whether that is being kind to others or being kind to yourself. We are all under so much stress these days it is easy to forget that little gestures can go a long way. It's very up to date, with pages on conscious screen time (something I need to get better at) and Corona kindness. It encourages small changes and making new habits to live a kinder, happier life.
I love the fact that this book will help raise money for the kindness charity @52.lives 10% of the author's royalties from the sale of this book will be donated to the charity. So not only can you improve your life, but you may improve somebody else's too. Win win situation.
I’m so glad my day for The Kindness Journal Book Tour has finally arrived. I read this at the start of the month, and I can finally talk about this thought-provoking book.
This isn’t just a straightforward book. It is filled with quotes on kindness, illustrations, and activities for you to try out; each with the purpose of helping add more kindness into your lives. I think at this current time, kindness is so important. Whether you are in lockdown, or struggling with your own battles, kindness is a little thing that really does go a long way.
This book really does make you think. It discusses the science of kindness and emotions in a way that everyone can understand, and this little book makes you stop and appreciate things you had never really focused on before.
I have to say, some of the pages really did have me questioning my own actions. There is a page where you had to discuss the kind things you have done, and it was so difficult for me to fill in. I guess I never really think about what I actually do for people and it threw me for a loop. I even had to ask my family, who, amidst all the laughing, actually made me realise I do a lot of kind things, but I never considered them as kind. They were just things I did.
Sometimes we all just need a reminder that we do all of these kind things, and a reminder of these small things that can actually make someone’s day. This book has changed the way I look at different actions that people do for me, as well as the actions I can start doing to be kind.
This would make the perfect gift for a friend, a loved one, or anyone who you think could use more kindness in their lives.
I am delighted I was given the opportunity to take part in this book tour on The Kindness Journal by Jaime Thurston kindly gifted by @lovebooktours (IG) and @omarabooks (IG)
This little book of joy is just what I needed- it provides a boost which was greatly desired and gratefully received. Given the current state of affairs caused by the pandemic and another lockdown this book is just perfect to provoke thought and create new habits which can only improve mental well-being. I would wholeheartedly urge your to give this wonderful book to your friends and family and spread the kindness far and wide!!
This lovely book promotes positivity, calm, listening to others and of course kindness which really makes the reader stop and think and reevaluate their feelings. It is a study of kindness and activities to enhance your awareness asses your mental well-being surrounding self care and being kind to others. It consists of beautiful illustrations and quotes which really hit home.
Though short and sweet, I gained knowledge and skills to help me focus on self care and the care of those around me (even people who your are not particularly keen on). Great lessons have been learnt - and I hope that using these skills going forward I can prioritise happiness in my life.
10% of the royalties from this book will go to the charity @52.lives (IG) are wonderful charity who do great things. Head over to their page to check out their wonderful work.
I don’t know about you but when someone is kind to me I get a little warm feeling inside, it makes me happy and it’s just the same when I’m kind to someone else, it gives me a little buzz especially when you see it put a smile on their face.
This journal is all about kindness and although many of us know how to be kind to others the thing that jumped out at me was self-kindness and how you speak to yourself. I had to sit and think for a while and I came to the conclusion, I’m not very kind to myself and it’s something I’m actively working on changing.
Throughout the book there are little activities and some absolutely gorgeous illustrations. It’s a lovely colourful little book and one that you can pick up and put down over and over again.
I’ve really enjoyed looking through this journal and I’ll definitely take a lot away from it, I think I’m quite a kind person but there’s always room for improvement. I also think this would make such a lovely gift as well. I’ll definitely be keeping this on my bedside table, after a hard day it will be nice to pick up and remind myself about kindness in myself and others.
The first thing to say is how beautifully made this book is, it's a joy just to hold. I love the rounded corners of the pages and the quality of the paper.
Usually the word "Journal" has me running from a book, but whilst this one does have room for writing, it is not the sole purpose. The illustrations throughout are so pretty and it's a book to be dipped in and out of, something new will always catch your eye.
The message is all about kindness, but not just to others. The biggest take way from this book for me is "kindness to yourself". The book asks "are you kind to yourself, or a bit of a bully?" This struck a chord with me, as I would never behave to someone else the way I do to myself! I'd never thought of it before, but I certainly do have negative internal words with myself that I need to stop.
This is such a lovely Journal, jam packed with activities that really make you think and tap into your feelings.
The journal describes on the front as ‘Little Activities to make a big difference’ and that is exactly it!
There are so many chapters, covering everything you can think of. One of my favourites is ‘Find the Sunshine’ but I was pleased to also see ‘Corona-kindness’ - so appropriate whilst in Lockdown 3.0
This would make a great gift for yourself or another person! It is something that I know I would really appreciate.
What an absolute gem, I really love this book. It’s so beautifully made - the paper of the pages is really smooth and luxurious - so you could use all manner of coloured pens and pencils to fill in the blanks. And the illustrations are so so pretty. It’s a really inspirational, heart warming book and as well as making a perfect gift for someone you care about, this would be an act of self-care if you bought it for yourself. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Essential.
We all need kindness. It helps us feel happy, calm and more connected. It is something we all have to give and that we all need, regardless of status or background.
This beautiful little journal is full of gorgeous little illustrations and little activities that you can incorporate into your daily routine to bring in more kindness to your life. There are activities to reflect, feel inspired and learn, even if it's just for a few minutes a day, by looking at all the different ways that kindness appears and can be given and how we can encourage ourselves to be kinder to ourselves and others. Jaime also makes us aware that whilst completing the activities throughout the journal, you can understand and see the positive effects that kindness has on our physical and mental health. What I love as well is that The Kindness Journal will be helping to raise money and awareness of 52 Lives, the kindness charity as 10% of the author royalties will be donated to the charity. 52 Lives helps to change someone’s life every week with the help of almost 100,000 people. So go check out their website www.52-Lives.org to see how you can help.
If you are fans of journaling and working on your mental health, this gorgeous journal is perfect for you.
This book is simply beautiful it is filled with thought provoking quotes, beautiful illustrations and activities to get you thinking about how you can be kinder to yourself.
This year in particular has been cause for most of us to re-evaluate what is important to us individually and how to adapt in this crazy world. This book has been an inspiration and a really thought provoking little book.
I think for me I need to remember especially with home learning I am doing my best and I am not super woman and I need to be kinder to myself and remember this!
