The Deadly forest of Quarrendon is a dark adult fantasy novel,I love dark fantasy and have been branching out more to this genre lately. So dark that it has mentions of rape, brutal murders, and mature sexual content.
At the beginning while reading it takes a while for the reader to grasp the story since some bizarre and unexplained situations occur, such as finding the girl in the forest with a dead body next to her, and then the mysterious interactions with Helena and Edith (I was unsure if they were a figment of Francis' imagination or real). This combined with the very fast pacing of the plot had me wanting answers. As I kept pushing through the story unfolds itself in a very captivating manner that had me curious to find out what exactly was the Dark Queen's purpose and what was the Grey's curse?
The story is very character driven, we meet a variety of characters with unique motivations. I found the character explanation at the start of the novel very helpful to keep track of all the names. One of my favorite scenes was Tybalt taking care of Millicent, I found it soothing and adorable. This is novel is definitely not for the faint of heart, I was heartbroken at times, it is deadly indeed!
