Amazing. This is the real thing.

I wanted to read this series because of a bunch of reasons:

1. The title is poetical and beautiful. It stuck and couldn't forget about it ever since.
2. The covers are suggestive and artsy.
3. Kou Yoneda's style agrees with me.
4. Shady environment: the Japanese mafia.
5. One of the MCs is impotent. The other one is a masochist. I wanted to see how the hell this would be sorted out.

Yes, I kind of expected this to epically explode in my very face, yet it didn't.

Must read!!!!

Introducing Yashiro, an attractive, bad ass, laid back, yakuza boss.

With his bodyguard, Doumeki

As if it isn't obvious enough, I am in love with this man

It's a damn good story. Highly recommended :3

However be warned, it's currently at chapter 20 and ends with a bloody cliffhanger that makes me want to tear my hair out, so yeah.

Shelves: manga, pretty-good I tore myself from Batman online fanfics for long enough to read.....yaoi manga.

This first volume is quite slow burn but the artwork is nice and although I never like the yakuza yaoi genre, still I like the storyline and how the characters' emotion and traumas are played out through the storytelling. Now I understand why some of my network like it so much, 4.8 stars.

Trigger warning: mention of rape, abusive/toxic relationships, BDSM.

Yashiro is a powerful man in a mafia group, and he is twisted to the bone. Ever since he was a kid, he was abused by his step-father, therefore he grows up into a man that likes to get off from violent acts, and pain inflicted to him. He’s totally a masochist.

His bodyguard, Doumeki, used to be a cop but something bad happened and he went to jail for a couple of years. Now he works for a mafia boss and despite he likes Yashiro,

A beautiful story about beautiful person. The manga itself is well-developed and interesting. I really think that even a person, who generally dislikes yaoi, should give it a try.
The main character is actually my favorite character of all times. He's "twisted beyond repair", as he said himself, yet he calmly accepts everything that happened to him. Imho, he's not scared of something like death and, as you'll find out in the process of reading this masterpiece, physical and moral pain... regardle

This is my second favorite manga of all time.
Yashiro is this kind of character you want to get to understand completely but it's almost impossible so you get frustrated and just want to know more about him.
Not a cliché yaoi, good plot and thanks to this manga I now know more about the Yakuzas that I'd like to know, lol.

Beautiful, interesting manga.

Judge me. Judge the hell out of me but I could not put this down.

Okay, so this is a Yaoi Manga. Obviously. And by that cover, you know exactly what you're getting. There are quite a few sex scenes in this series and none of them loving or romantic.

This is either the 4th or the 5th manga I've read and I this is my favorite! Hear me out.

** Mentions of sexual assault **

This is the story of Yashiro, the leader Shinseikai and Chikara Doumeki, a former cop who becomes Yashiro's bodyguard. At first,

this manga is so different from the other yaoi manga
Yoneda Kou managed to transform a cliche yakuza theme into such a special story that makes me shiver at each new chapter.Yashiro's personality is what makes this story so interesting and I love how slow this story is progressing.
i highly recommend this series! it's one of the better and sweet ones out there. XD

Series review:

Wow, this is one dark and twisted story, I'm intrigued!

What happens when a masochistic yakuza boss meets his polar opposite; an ex cop turned bodyguard:

"You were impotent, the complete opposite of the hedonist that I am. And I decided all on my own that you were broken in some way, just like me..."

The story is layered, complex. The characters are more damaged than you can possibly imagine and the world they inhabit is so very, very violent. With incredible art to boot. Characte
Reading the summary as copied from mangaupdates made me laugh. It isn't wrong, actually, but what's missing is the bit where it mentions that this is one of the best BL manga ever written.

Yashiro is a yakuza boss who is also seriously masochistic. Domeki is his new bodyguard who is impotent and joined Yashiro's group mostly because he liked the way Yashiro looks.

While these are the basic facts, writing them down like this makes this manga sound nowhere near as good as it is. First of all, it s

This manga is gonna be the only manga I add to my Goodreads account, at least for now.

This manga is so exceptional it deserves a review because of its complexity. The plot, the characters, the art, all are complex in their own way. Not too simple like, doki doki senpai, flashy big uke eyes, or something like that.

I mean, man. I've read almost all Yoneda Kou's mangas and they are actually like this (the art and the plot are excellent), but this manga... ugh it passes the standard of what good ya

The beauty of speaking several languages as a manga fan is that you are able to find (and buy! and read!) awesome (BL) manga.
Now, BL mangas aren't hard to find in English, but most of them are crappy pieces of smutty porn that I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole (that doesn't just go for BL - I don't read the josei type smut or hentai either because they all suck).
For a long time, I've been searching for a deep (no pun intended) BL manga that actually had a good story and great characters. Ac

Yashiro's character is intriguing. Yakuza BL philosophy: you have to (start from the) bottom to get to the top.

I can't get enough and it left me on the edge of the cliff!
This series ruined my life and I'm so happy it did. If you've ever been into yaoi manga, or even if you haven't, this is absolutely worth a read.

2020 Read #502

This wasn’t really my type of story, but I really did like Doumeki’s character and backstory. Still deciding if I want to continue on, though, since these characters’ stories hurt.
Kou Yoneda, your works are brilliant! Absolutely Brilliant!

What I can appreciate about this manga is that it's not as cliché as some of the other Yakuza/ Japanese mafia stories floating around out there. Which is why I think this is a great Yaoi Yakuza story! The cover is so unique and eye catching, it would be almost impossible to walk into a book store and not at least look at it! The storyline is also really good and the characters are really just amazing!

I was a bit confused at first about the characters and the back blurb, but it ended up becoming pretty intense. This is definitely not your standard yaoi manga. It's pretty dark and the characters are twisted, and I loved that about it. As dark and twisted as it is, it's a refreshing change from the light-hearted comedies that seem to fill the genre.

Another re-read thanks to the movie, lol.
Sounds like it's going to be weird and porny (although the tasteful cover should tell you differently), but this actually turned into a deeply touching story about emotional healing, that had me crying at parts. (view spoiler) ...more

I own the english version by June. Actually, this title was never in my "wanted" list for BL manga before, but then I accidentaly found volume 1-5 in quite cheap price in really good-used condition on internet. So, I thought, why not?
Well, one thing that bug me is that my volume 1 and 2 are in english (June), yet the rest are in japanese (ihrHertZ).

I really love the illustration cover for this volume. So much for my taste. Yashiro looks so gorgeous and his pose... duh, artistic! Good job, Yoned

I docked a star because the translation and lettering is pretty shit. Literally typos on the first page level of bad, as can be expected from good ol June (a publisher known for shit quality and treating staff and contractors like shit). Good thing they're out of business, and I hope a different publisher (SuBLime? Please?) rescues this.

Or just learn Japanese. The rest of this review is based off having read the manga in Japanese.

Probably one of the best BL manga you will ever read. I've been re

5 Stars.

I was incredibly nervous about reading this because nothing about the synopsis appealed to me at all. I thought I was heading into some weird 50 Shades of Yakuza nightmare. However, the critical praise and reverent reviews made me give it a go. Boy am i glad I dive into this series - it is impeccable. It’s really difficult to describe why this manga is so good, because he entire thing has such a unique feel to it. The writing is amazing and the psychology behind all of the characters is

This is definitely one of the most unusual yaoi manga I've read. The plot is complex and twisted and definitely has some triggers. I read the digital version, which was fine, even if the art quality wasn't as pure as the printed version. Waiting on Vol. 2 to come out digitally will probably kill me thanks to the cliffhanger at the end of this one. The art is beautifully executed, and even if there are some oddities in the translation, it doesn't drag you out of the story. I think what I love mos ...more

Atmosphere in this story is fascinating and kind of woeful. It's not a traditional yakuza manga. Tragic experiences are pulling Yashiro and Doumeki together in a unexpected ways. They're characters you wouldn't expect to find attraction between each other. They're not perfect, far from it... yet their flaws and twisted features makes them perfect.

The plot it carefully build and takes its time to proceed. Author has give a good thought for a story all the way. Background stories aren't revealed i

It might sound a little too "serious" for a manga reader, but this series deserves a close read in its original Japanese version. I first came across its Chinese translation and, after re-reading it, refreshed my Japanese and flipped to the original. I encourage anyone with Japanese capability to do the same.

The main reason is this: for the much-loved Yashiro-san, the ambiguity, complexity and radically opposite tendencies of his character is captured in all of the subtleties of his language. A

Dark, very dark, twisted and perverted along with a very complex personality and plot. Yashiro is a masochist yakuza boss and Doumeki is an impotent ex-con, ex-cop who becomes Yashiro’s bodyguard and new play/torture toy. The complexity of the Yashiro’s personality is intriguing, like watching a train wreck, yet I couldn’t stop reading. Not really a romance happening with this first book, but lots of perverted sex.

That's right. I just wanted to see.

And the meaning behind the sharp knife flying towards me: Why not me? Why can't it be me? All this time, I would be lying if I said I've never wished for it, but by being merely an observer, I've somehow managed to distance myself.
