Throughout salvation history, Saint Michael the Archangel has appeared when God's people needed spiritual protection, healing, and victory. Today, many faithful still turn to him for assistance, and parishes across the world pray to him to defend our Church.
But what do we really know about Saint Michael?
In Saint Michael the Archangel you'll discover the fascinating "biography" of the angel whose mission from God is to do battle against Satan and all the evil spirits. Weaving together Scripture, history, papal documents, and popular devotion, author James Day fills in the gaps of our knowledge about Saint Michael, revealing the impact the mighty defender has on individuals, the Church, and the world.
Saint Michael the Archangel also highlights the main shrines dedicated to Saint Michael, and includes the text of prayers, hymns, and poems written to honor him.

What Christian could fail to perceive the rabid spiritual warfare that engulfs humanity presently? Never has such vile darkness cloaked itself as if it were refulgent light. Rarely has any battle seemed so one-sided. When has there been a greater need for a champion warrior to set things right? Mr. Day offers a well-researched and compelling portrait of such a biblical and angelic hero, Michael the Archangel. Captain of the armies of God, defender of Christ’s church, and victor over the prince of darkness, St. Michael has long been venerated and invoked throughout the history of Christianity. This book not only offers much appreciated historical and comprehensive information about this warrior angel, but it also provides a magnificent set of prayers and devotions. 'Who is like unto God?' Let the battle begin!
There is something special about this book. I hadn’t been to church in 30 years, and had no intention on ever going back. But I never fully turned away from God, or interest in His angels. Michael, especially, caught my attention and I wanted to know more. I stumbled upon this book, and I was shocked by how much this book grabbed my heart. It opened the door for me to consider church again, which is what I eventually did. This book may not have been written with the intent on changing lives, but it impacted mine in a profound way.
One of the best books I have read so far. Of course, it is short, but very interesting points and really everything you need to know about St. Michael. I wanted to learn more about him since he is my baptismal patron saint and I was not disappointed. Alot of history about him through other saints of the past and finishes the book with a ton of different prayers to him I never even heard about.
This is the best book I have read about St. Michael - much more than a collection of prayers and hymns.
This is the first time I've been introduced to the "Sword of St. Michael" connecting seven Holy sites from Israel to Ireland. There's lots of historical background on each of these sites, as well as people who followed St. Michael like Constantine the Great. This is the first St. Michael book I've read that explains in detail who Joan of Arc was, what she did, and why St. Michael is so precious to the people of France. It goes on to give details about visions of St. Michael, including one witnessed by Pope Leo XIII in 1884.
And then there are the essential prayers and hymns - there appear to be more in this book than in the others I've read, and they are better organized. The illustrations and writing are crisp and clear. I am planning to keep this book on my shelf for a long while :)
What a great historical perspective of St. Michael, the archangel. I really enjoyed how the author tied the biblical and historical evidence of why St. Michael is still one of the most popular saints. I am talking to my brother to go on a pilgrimage to the "Sword of St. Michael" holy sites!
