Is it settling if you’re happy being 90% happy?

I’m not sure anyone expects to be 100% happy, content and satisfied. By looking for little pleasures and finding satisfaction from simple things are we settling? Should we be looking to achieve great things or set huge and sometimes unrealistic goals? I know that I’m happy with my family, a good book, a couple of coffees a day and the occasional glass of wine. But … should I want more? Am I settling for mediocre by not wanting to live in a mansion o

AUTHOR: Jill Shalvis
SERIES: Wildstone #7
RELEASE DATE: June 8, 2021
GENRE: Women's Fiction, Contemporary Romance
THEMES & TROPES: Smalltown Romance, Accident, Coma

You know what? I know, I've said it before but Jill Shalvis is an automatic winner for me. She delivers without fail. I read another book recently that had a heroine who was in a coma and her fiancé and best friend fell in love with one another while the heroine was unconscious.

4.5 - "Life’s too short for bullshit." Stars!

We return to Wildstone for book seven in the series; Love for Beginners giving us Simon, Emma & Alison’s stories. All of them get a POV and as with the books in the series all of them are linked together.

"I’m off men."

Simon and Alison are cousins, Alison and Emma are frenemies and business partners, and Emma and Simon are working towards being a couple, but with him being her PT after her life changing accident, things are a little complex. Doesn’t h

This book was so charming and heartwarming, that I devoured over a weekend. The cozy writing, with wonderfully lovable characters made this book such a delight to read that I enjoyed.

3 very confused stars. Could be more, could be less, who knows?

These Wildstone novels are delightful and the best Shalvis has written in years; the women’s fiction bent suits her well and she still privileges the romance enough that the books, especially the latter entries, feel like straight up genre romance. And this book is delightful, too! Yet there’s a surprise “but!” that I did not see coming.

About halfway through the novel there’s a mention of how COVID-19 has made it difficult for people

I’ve read all of Jill Shalvis’s Wildstone series and Love for Beginners is my absolute favorite!

There’s just something about Emma’s vulnerability and strength that drew me in from the start. Jeez, talk about living hell--waking from a coma to find out your fiancé dumped you for your best friend and roommate, and having to live with them temporarily because where else are you gonna go? God, just shoot me now!

Even without a job, a place to live, and still trying to recover, Emma never gives up. Sh

The Wildstone series is a favourite of mine and I was glad for the opportunity to return to  this beautiful coastal town. The beauty about this series is that each installment is self contained, so each book can be read in any order one chooses.

In this installment we meet Emma, who recently awoke from a coma, after a horrible motor vehicle accident. She woke  to discover that her life would never be the same. Her fiancée dumped her for her best friend, and she needed to prove to everyone, includ

Jill Shalvis pens some of the loveliest prose in contemporary romance returns with Love for Beginners, a second chance at life story.

After waking up from a comma, Emma Harris must now face a new reality where her ex-BFF and ex-fiancé are now together and she must start from scratch while overcoming her physical limitations. Although her evil physical therapist will do everything in his power to help her succeed and perhaps even show her how to love again.

I just adore this series and always look forward to the latest installment. I read most of the books during the height of the pandemic and they brought me so much comfort. They’re all set in the same town but can easily be read on their own as each book focuses on a new group of people so if you’re hesitant to start because it’s a series you can definitely jump in. Per usual there’s a premise that sucks you right in, Emma has just woken up from a coma and her fiancée and BFF are now together. Sh ...more

Sometimes a book just stands out for a particular thing or two. Jill shalvis always delivers great characters, but what I really enjoyed about this read was the dynamics between, well, all of them.

We're given a few potential romance stories, but also family, friends and age old enemies who find a way to make amends. I fell for Simon immediately, and loved watching his feelings for Emma grow, and enjoyed Emma's evolution. But it was Alison who grew the most. She both needed forgiveness, and neede

I have been enjoying the Wildstone series from its coastal setting to the characters we have met along the way. Each of the novels works on its own, from story to romance. In this tale we meet Emma Harris who wakes from a coma after being struck by a car while out running. While she beat the odds, it seems her BFF and fiance are now an item and life as she knew it has changed. It’s a time of new beginnings, but first she’ll need to overcome her physical limitations. Shalvis still has it! This is a feel-good but still very realistic romance set in Wildstone, and I loved Emma, Simon and Alison. I also fell for Dale, and of course, Hog and Killer, too.

I love how Shalvis manages to bring everything together. People who seem like they could never be friends, strangers who need a little lift to continue on this strange and sometimes diffi

So this story is about Emma, who has just come out of a year in rehab, after spending the two months previous in a coma. Her life is now a complete mess, her fiancé is having sex with her best friend, she struggles to get into her new apartment building on the second floor (stairs are her new nemesis), and no one will hire her because she’s been out of work for a year. She’s determined to start life as a new Emma 2.0 but life just keeps throwing obstacles at her.

Love for Beginners is a warm hug of a book. It’s sweet, has characters who are easy to like even though – or perhaps because – they are flawed, and all the relationships are ones you root for.

Emma survived being hit by a car, a coma, and defied the odds and learned to walk again. She’s grateful to be alive but her life has changed forever. I liked Emma’s spirit, her determination, and her sunshiny nature. She has a natural likeability but she’s also human with fla

As a romance reader, I have no idea how I haven’t read anything until now by this wonderful author. Love For Beginners left me with all the tender heartwarming feelings just now after finishing, and I loved it!

Now I feel like I need to go back and visit the rest of this Wildstone series, because it just seemed like the cutest made-for-tv Hallmark setting.

The chemistry between Simon and Emma was so hot, and I loved that we get to see a side romance from Simon’s cousin Alison too.

Second Chances

Emma survived a near fatal accident and is now trying to rebuild her life but isn’t sure she deserves to fully rebuild it. Simon is her PT, landlord, crush, and friend who would like to be more but isn’t sure he wants to risk his heart again when he still has too much on his plate. Alison is her enemy from high school who has always struggled with letting people in and had decided to use Emma as practice so she can win back the love of her life, Ryan.

What would you do if you had the chance to start over in life and in love? Emma Harris got that chance after coming out of a coma and finding out everything she knew and loved was gone. Her fiancé fell in love with her best friend, lost her job, and now she has to start over from scratch. Emma was lucky to get help from her physical therapist Simon Armstrong, when he finds her an apartment in his home. Jill Shalvis, you had me at doggy day care. I mean, who doesn't love a pupper!

Emma and Simon's story is sweet and emotional and definitely tugged at my heart strings

I smiled, I laughed, and I definitely shed a tear or two as our lovelies fight through their emotional and physical walls. Oh, and I shouted at my ereader too at some things our lovelies did.

It was also like 2 stories in one, as Simon's cousin Alison has her love story, along with her rel
Love for Beginners is a sweet, heart-tugging addition to the Wildstone series. I love how all these books can be read as standalones, the small town of Wildstone the thread that holds them altogether.

Emma is on the road to recovery from an devastating accident that threw her entire world into an upheaval. Although she's suffering survivor's guilt, which holds her back from fully living 100%, she's doing her best to heal and move on. Emma is so strong, which was hard for her to see. I like how s
Love for Beginners by Jill Shelvis was an utterly delightful read.

From the beginning it just wrapped itself around me and gave me such a great reading time.

Emma is such a gritty character, she just doesn't give in, she has to start over completely again, and she still has things to cope with left over from her accident. For quite awhile she struggles to find her path, but let me just let you know find it she does.

She has this enormous big dog who is scared of everything and everyone - mostly. Ho

Loved this book.

Jill Shalvis has an amazing mind, her books bring her readers to a different level. They are heartwarming, unpredictable and lovable.

As this book is told from multiple POV's it was great to great to get a better understanding of the characters and the internal battles they face. Each character was equally as lovable that I was rooting for them from the very start.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I would highly recommend it. It is part of a series however it can be read as a s

I have never heard or read this author but I always love a good contemporary chick lit book so I was excited to start this book. I also personally was in a coma few years back and had to relearn how to walk and the whole get-my-life-back thing just like Emma so I knew the story would be somewhat relatable... except I was pleasantly surprised to find just how well the author portrayed it all. Emmas internal thoughts, physical rehabilitation struggles, just all of
I have to say that a dog named Hog stole this book. Yes, my favorite character in this book is a fraidy cat, support animal dropout, 110-pound St. Bernard/Chewbacca farting dog.

When I first began reading Love For Beginners, I was a little concerned. It all felt very familiar. You have an injured girl whose boyfriend and BFF hook up while she is in the hospital and she moves into a place that was set up for her by her oh-so-cute physical therapist. Even reading about the twin boys who help Emma move into her apartment felt like deja vu. I looked back multiple times to make sure I haven't already read this book. I set it aside and waited a few weeks then picked

"Love for Beginners" is written by Jill Shalvis, and it is the 7th book in her Wildstone series. It can be read as a stand-alone book. It features Simon Armstrong and Emma Harris.

This story starts after Emma got into an accident and was in a coma. We see her moving into her new apartment accompanied by her ex-fiance and ex former best friend. She also runs into her PT, Simon, who helped her get her new place. What Emma eventually learns is that

Love for Beginners has "beach read" written all over it! It does start off with a tragic story: woman wakes from coma to find her fiancee has left her for her BFF and everything in her life is different now. She is, quite literally, starting over.

Love for Beginners allows readers to sort of imagine "what if". What if you had a chance to do things differently? What if you could have a do over? Through Emma, readers get to explore redefining happy. She has to learn to trust again, and that i

I've really enjoyed the Wildstone series, in which each book is a standalone, women's fiction story with a strong romance thread. In Love for Beginners, we get journeys that focus not only on the primary romantic couple but a secondary one also. But that's not all Shalvis explores. Her complex characters have tentative friendships, evolving family situations, and new beginnings to navigate as well. Emma, Simon, and Alison all have individual journeys to travel with significant emotional growth t ...more

Now she's trying to start over and discover the new Emma and who she wants to be. Among other things, the new Emma wants to try a relationship with her hot PT Simon.
