This was my first read by this author so I wasn't sure what to expect. This book was far angstier and sexier than I expected. And that's not a bad thing.
The MCs are likeable. The Daddy kink is mild but smokin' hot, and the story ends with a HEA.
My one complaint is that the ending felt rushed. What happened with Wyatt's dad because he deserved a reckoning of epic proportions.
I wanted a longer resolution, but I still enjoyed the book.

Wonderful daddy kink book with lots of hurt/comfort.
Wyatt is a spoiled rich kid who’s acting out to torment his father. Or so it seems. In reality his father hits him when he’s angry and tells him on a daily basis what a disappointment Wyatt is. Wyatt tries to stop the hurting by self-harming, and he doesn’t know how to escape the life he’s living.
When his senator father hires another bodyguard to make sure nothing happens until the elections, Wyatt expects another one of his father’s minions, but instead he gets a super hot soldier who won’t let Wyatt tell him what to do.
Lincoln expected he needed to babysit a spoiled brat, and while Wyatt may act like a brat, it’s clear the young man is hurting. But luckily Lincoln needs just what Wyatt needs. Wyatt needs rules and a strong hand. Wyatt needs a daddy….
This was filled with so much hurt/comfort I was in heaven. I loved how Lincoln tried to take care of Wyatt from the moment they met. And Wyatt was such a hurt soul, he really needed someone like Lincoln.
Wyatt’s father was an awful person, and I was glad that he got what he deserved at the end.
What I noticed and kind of bothered me was that it seemed these guys mostly lived in a vacuum for most of this book. I know Wyatt was under house arrest, but even after that was done, they still almost never left the penthouse. I wanted them to be in the real world for a change too, and not just in their bubble.
But this got better in the last 25%, and with some more hurt/comfort when Wyatt got hurt this book got even better.
The daddy kink wasn’t an overwhelming presence in this book, so I think this book will appeal to daddy kink lovers, but also to the people who like it less. These guys felt more equal than what I come across normally in my daddy kink books. Here it was basically Wyatt calling Lincoln Daddy on occasion and Lincoln trying to take care of Wyatt. But Wyatt wasn’t some meek boy. He was feisty! But so lost…
I can’t wait for the next book!

This book shows a lot of homophobia. In the worst way possible. It shows a father who didn’t care one bit about his son but a lot about that he was gay. It was awful. And it nearly cost his son his life because he couldn’t stand it anymore.
This is one of a lot of things in our world I will never understand. Homophobia. I always try to understand why people think or feel a certain way even if it’s not mine. But in that capacity? I will never understand. Why some people are having such strong emotions about someone else being different than themselves.

Anyway… as you can guess, for me this story was emotionally intense. But I loved Wyatt’s and Lincolns love story very much. I loved that they needed and found one another. ♡
Also, thanks to Onley James for making the subject of daddy-kink more tangible for me. I appreciate that because so far it wasn’t something in romance I could really enjoy.

This was a wonderful debut novel! The characters were well-developed, the feelings were raw and full of anguish. It's told from dual POV, and is amazing hurt/comfort read. This book contains mentions that may be triggers to others: PTSD, off-page noncon, conversion therapy, self-harm, addiction, parental mental and physical abuse. Ms James made me feel both men's pain and made me wish to help them. It caused so many emotions from me while reading it - from rage to deep sorrow. And that's the best kind of book to me. This also contains Daddy kink which was amazingly done.
Wyatt is considered the troubled wild child. What could be possibly going wrong in the life of a spoiled rich brat? But if you look close enough you will see a young man on the verge of giving up. There is only but so much neglect and hurt one person can take. I wanted to hug him most of the time. Yes, he did behave badly at times but it all felt like attempts for somebody to notice that Wyatt was hurting on the inside. With abusive father and uncaring mother, Wyatt had no one to turn to.
Linc is here to do a job. It might be boring to babysit a young spoiled man, but he needs the money desperately to not care. But the problem is that he starts caring too much way too fast. What he sees is a man with no direction and such a big need for love only Linc can provide. Both men try to resist but it's futile. What starts as a fling to get it out of their system becomes an anchor that guides and grounds them both. Wyatt finally feels safe and wanted, and Linc's demons are defeated by the shy smile of a beautiful young man.
There were so many passionate and heartfelt moments, so many times I wanted to reach into my kindle and do Wyatt's father bodily harm - the most detestable monster in creation! I loved Charlie, Wyatt's best friend, for her humor and support. She nudged both men to come together, and then it was all she wrote. This was a story of healing, finding love and acceptance, and breaking free. Daddy Linc gave his Boy Wyatt a safe harbor to finally come home to. I loved it so much! I highly recommend it! My second venture into a solo work by Onley James and it did not disappoint.
First off, this is a heavy heavy book with a ton of angst, and also I would say very much to heed the warnings given in the summary to this.
Both Wyatt and Linc have had tough lives, and both have trauma. But in a way, the only way they're ever truly is when they're with each other. But even then, happiness doesn't automatically cure years of trauma.
Wyatt is even suicidal - heed the warnings - somewhat, and while I don't think he truly wants to die, he does flirt with the idea plenty. Which is understandable for what he's gone through. First, his father is physically and emotional abusive, has been basically his whole life. His mother doesn't seem to give a shit enough to care what his father does to him, and when Wyatt was 6, his 8 year old brother died of cancer.
Oh and on top of all that, when his conservative AF father found out he was gay, he sent him to a conversion camp three summers in a row when he was a teenager where he was sexually abused.
Like shit, I completely understand Wyatt's mental state throughout this book. It's tough to read. And if the warnings are too much for, I would definitely skip this. Even if they aren't triggers for you, I'd just be ready for angst and pain.
Linc doesn't have it quite as bad, but he has major PTSD from being in war as a former marine, which comes with it's own angst and baggage.
These two are both broken in their own way. But they also have an electric connection and are attracted from day one.
There is daddy kink in this, which I liked - I do wish it had been ramped up a little more, buttt the sex was so hot that I didn't mind too much that the kink wasn't explored as much as I wish it had been.
Also I like that how even once these two got together for good, they were both in therapy, so they were improving themselves as they were building a relationship. Which was good for these two, who especially needed it. I'm always happy when characters who are so broken like this actually get the professional help they need. That's way healthier than if they just stayed together and expected the other to cure them of their trauma and such.
Also these two getting their HEA was well earned, and seeing where they end up versus where they began was well worth it.
So overall, a very strong start to this series, and I will be reading more. Two big thumbs up from me! :D

ETA: I'm doing a re-read of this series in audio format! I love this narrator from the Necessary Evils series, so I'm really looking forward to listening to all of these now too. Ahhh I love this series, it's what got me hooked!
I don't know how this is Onley James' first adult mm romance book! It's too good!! But seriously, where has this author been because WOW, I was super impressed with this debut story from Onley James. This story just had a perfect blend of so many excellent elements - daddy kink, age gap, first time, hurt/comfort, bodyguard-falls-for-his-job.
Linc is ex-military, still recovering from some pretty serious PTSD, and is working for his friend, Jackson, who also served with him. Linc has what he thinks is a pretty easy case - protect some rich kid, the son of a senator, and collect a check. He doesn't expect to meet someone who is perfectly suited for him, brings out all of his dominating, protective, and Daddy instincts, and for feelings to come into play.
Wyatt...oh Wyatt, my heart just broke for him and what he has lived through. He had a pretty rough childhood and at only 22, is being horribly controlled by his father. I would give a warning that this does deal with self-harm and conversion therapy, which isn't given as a warning. I loved Wyatt, and I was rooting for him through the whole story to find his way out from under his father's awful rule.
Wyatt and Linc together were just FIRE. Seriously, hot, hot, hot. Scorchingly so. What starts as just some easy hook ups while Line is protecting Wyatt becomes so much more, and I just loved the two of these men together. Linc is just a great Daddy for Wyatt in all aspects, and I just completely loved every minute of reading this story.
Also - shout out to Charlie being the best friend EVER! Interested in both Jackson and Linc's sister, completely supportive of her best friend, calling Linc "Lincoln Log" and "Missing Linc" and just being an all around badass, awesome character.
I absolutely cannot wait for the next book in this series - seriously, this is an author to be on the watch for, I think we will get great things from her!

Book safety, tropes and tags down below.
The first time I started reading this book, I stopped at about 50%. I don't have a good reason why, it might just have been a little much at the time. I started over again from the start this time around, and I really enjoyed it, even though it was a little problematic.
I don't think it was problematic in the sense that the author did anything wrong or was insensitive in any malicious way, but the relationship between Wyatt and Linc was definitely.. not good, atleast not until the very end. You could tell they definitely cared for each other, but Wyatt should have been in therapy from the start. Sometimes it doesn't work that way though, and we use other things (or people) to make it through. I'm just glad Linc and Wyatt were able to see the toxicity and work through it and make something real from it, even though something traumatic had to happen for them to make some changes.
I really enjoyed the book, but it was definitely draining to read it. I'm not easily bothered by trauma or external angst, so that part was alright for me; it was the problematic relationship that got to me. In a sea of trigger warnings, a little unhealthy sex is what made me cry, lol.

I’m not a daddy kink fan and this book hasn’t changed my mind but I still enjoyed it. I did like the dynamic between Wyatt and Linc, I just cannot vibe with the “daddy” part 😂 this is also kinda heavy on the emotions which is something I really like. This was my first Onley James book and I’m looking forward to reading more.

I barely enjoyed this. I feel like I spent most of the time being sad for one of the characters. I’m here for all the Daddy kink and the amazing sex but the other topics drained me. Not for me obviously.

Linc is an ex-Marine with PTSD, employed by Elite Protection Services, tasked to guard & guide Wyatt, the son of a conservative senator. Wyatt is suicidal & self harms, and Linc recognises he’s attracted to him while also wanting to be his Daddy. Nice story, hot sex, bit of fluff.

After reading James's Unhinged I knew I needed more of their books. I'd had this one tbr for a while, and someone recommended this series if I wanted more like Unhinged.
While I didn't like it quite as much as Unhinged, I still liked it. My heart broke for Wyatt. And can I say his father did not pay enough. I wanted to see the man dead along with Victor. (Channeling my inner Adam). I also wanted Wyatt to stand up for himself a little more, but I guess that's why Linc is there.
Overall, I love Onley's writing, and I'm looking forward to more in the series.

I'm not a big fan of daddy kink and maybe this was one of the reasons I didn't enjoy this book. But it wasn't just that. Honestly, I expected something more. More scenes where something actually happened, more character development.
The MCs went through a lot of awful things and it was hard at times to read. But their struggles, their traumas, were just pushed aside a lot of the time (at least I felt like that was the case). At one point, I found myself skipping pages because I was bored of the sex and wanted something else to happen.
Also, I was extremely disappointed by this epilogue! It felt rushed, too rushed. Anyway, I'll still give this series a chance and continue with the next book.

A raw story with so much depth, and even Daddy kink, what more could you wish for?
Wyatt is a scarred, closeted gay guy of twenty-two years. Raised by detached parents. His father finds his job as a senator more important than his derailed son. Ughh It made me so angry.
Lincoln, hired by Wyatt’s dad, must prevent any scandal caused by Wyatt before the election in about eight months. At first sight an easy job.
Wyatt just recovered from an accident, not his first DUI. He loves his booze and with that, he’s reckless and thoughtless.
Lincoln is just what Wyatt needs. Someone who takes care of him, thoroughly.
They have the most delicious chemistry. Wyatt is a big brat, his already shattered heart is as fragile as his mind. He has destructive habits. Lincoln is kind of his safety net.
My goodness hold your heart, because when his past is revealed, bit by bit, you understand why he is messed up and shattered.
Wyatt’s dad is one of the most vicious men I ever read about. I hated him right away. How can someone be so wrong, so, so wrong.
I expected some light kinky Daddy/boy read and was more than happily surprised with this layered, excellently developed story. It was heartbreaking and emotional at times, very well balanced with the bratty attitude of Wyatt and the Daddy/boy dynamic. It brought some lightness and playfulness into this story. Wyatt and Lincoln are delicious and steamy together. Besides these men, we meet some dedicated friends and awful trash.
The whole story was flowed well, had a steady pace, and flawlessly written. It was captivating, the nasty sharp aspects and the sexiness were excellently combined. This all resulted in a wonderful, heartbreaking,— at times— teeth grinding, passionate story.
Thank goodness there is justice and Wyatt and Linc have their HEA.

This was a big win from a new-to-me author and I'm immediately jumping into the next book. This book ticked so many of my boxes, I felt it was almost written for me. It had an easy writing style, a great balance of drama, angst, romance and a bit of kink. There was, also, quite a lot of sex - really the only thing keeping me from a full 5 star because I would have rather seen some sex scenes sacrificed for a little more Wyatt and Linc doing other things together. The villains were truly evil and the female best friend was badass!

This is very bad. I finished it, but it's very bad. It's not poorly written and the pace is mostly compelling but it falls in that category of "sex will cure anyone of anything" trope that I just find very problematic. Why traumatize your characters so thoroughly and then mention therapy in the epilogue like some tiny afterthought? Childhood sexual abuse, PTSD, cutting, parental abuse, neglect, abandonment, arterial blood spray, multiple suicide attempts: these characters have been through the wringer. But you know, just call somebody daddy and all is well. There also wasn't a lot of relationship development here. It feels like these characters only connect sexually and otherwise mostly ignore each other. Whatever, I finished it so it gets 2 stars.

Intoxicating provides daddy kink with an emotional and angsty ride! Wyatt and Linc are hot together and will leave you all warm and fuzzy inside. I was surprised by how invested I got in them as a couple and I may have cried a tear or two (ok, a lot) at the end. A story that starts off seeming like regular shmegular daddy kink ends up delivering way more than just smut (don’t worry, there’s plenty of that as well!). In the end, two damaged people balance and complement each other despite all odds.

What is perceived as acting out is often a cry for help. And this describes Wyatt Edgeworth in a nutshell. Wyatt is twenty-two, beautiful and a trust fund baby with several DUIs—with the last DUI actually being a suicide attempt. But “surface” Wyatt masks an emotionally fragile guy who has felt unloved, worthless, and a failure his whole life. His father (Monty) is a conservative senator and has hired Lincoln to babysit Wyatt during the final stretch of his reelection campaign. Monty only cares about his image and is a complete monster. He's physically abusive and sends Wyatt to “conversion camp” three times to “get the gay out” of him.
Lincoln Hudson suffers from PTSD after serving in Afghanistan for two tours and is having a hard time reintegrating into civilian life. Although he despises Monty, he needs this lucrative gig to take care of his own father who has dementia. He figures it'll be a breeze to watch a spoiled brat after Afghanistan. But Linc is perceptive and soon sees the hurting little boy beneath Wyatt’s spoiled brat act. And he turns out to be the perfect daddy because he’s caring and strong enough to deal with Wyatt’s drama.

Lincoln recognizes imminent danger as soon as he meets Wyatt. Their attraction is mutual, yet he knows that acting on it would cost him his job. Plus there’s also the fact that Wyatt is an emotional time bomb waiting to go off.
“But Wyatt wanted him. The boy was a big sucking void and Linc wanted nothing more than to fill him up, again and again, to give him what he so desperately needed.”
Lust Turns to Feels
Wyatt unconsciously burrows under Lincoln’s skin. What begins as mere lust quickly morphs into an urge to nurture and possess Wyatt.
“This fucked-up kid with his fucked-up life and his fucked-up family and his permanently crossed wires had somehow wormed his way into Linc’s head and made himself at home, and now, it wasn’t just a job and it wasn’t just sex…Fuck, Linc didn’t know what it was, but he wasn’t giving it up. He wasn’t giving Wyatt up.”

Wyatt needs a strong, compassionate daddy to provide structure in his chaotic life and Lincoln is the right guy for the job. He’s sexiness personified but also knows exactly how to handle Wyatt’s trauma and insecurities.

I love these types of stories and thought this one sounded good, though I was a little worried it was the same old, same old. I was pleasantly surprised that wasn’t the case, and I ended up really enjoying it, despite some of the more heartbreaking aspects. Linc is in a bit of a spot. He takes on the job of bodyguard in exchange for a big payout, something of which he needs for family matters. He isn’t looking forward to essentially being a babysitter for what appears to be a spoiled brat, but hey, he needs the money. What he doesn’t expect and what he learns pretty quickly is that there is a lot more to the story where Wyatt is concerned.
We get an idea of what Wyatt has been through when we meet his horrendous excuse for a father, but that only touches the surface. Thank goodness Linc doesn’t hesitate to get involved. It starts out with him trying to provide Wyatt with the structure he so desperately needs, but as time goes on, he learns more and more to explain Wyatt’s issues and actions. Wyatt is a sweetheart. His father forced him into the closet and forced him to hide everything about him that didn’t fit his father’s perfect image. I loved him from the get go and just wanted him to find some peace and a place in the world that was his own. Linc was the complete opposite, approving, encouraging and basically allowing Wyatt to shine. Linc is fabulous with Wyatt, does his best to protect him and is there to pick up pieces whenever any fall. Their chemistry is never in doubt, and the light kink (mostly Daddy stuff with some spanking and light bondage) was sexy and fun.
Linc is dealing with his own issues – PTSD from his time in the military, but it doesn’t take long for Linc and Wyatt to find a way to make things work and to help each other. I loved that Wyatt did research on how to handle Linc’s PTSD! Wyatt’s has his own issues of self harm/suicidal thoughts, etc. which were heartbreaking but completely understandable. It was nice to see Wyatt being able to provide something essential that Linc needed as well, although I did love seeing Linc take care of his boy. 🙂
I really enjoyed the writing style here. Nothing specific to put my finger on other than it just read very smoothly keeping me turning pages effortlessly. Extra points are given for Wyatt’s seemingly one and only friend the super sassy and ballsy, Charlie, and I am dying to know more about Linc’s boss and friend, Jackson. This is a first for me by this author, but I will definitely be looking for more in the future.

I really, really liked this storyline. Onley James' writing is beautiful and had such nice pacing and flow throughout the entire novel. It had the perfect amount of angst I was looking for and I adored Wyatt and Linc. This would usually be an easy 5 stars for me, but it was a daddy kink novel and it's a no for me. This year I'm broadening the genres/tropes I read and it's safe to say, I'm not into it at all. Usually, I would've stopped reading, but I loved the characters and story so it was easy to overlook.

This was my first Onley James. A quick and rather enjoyable read, even if it was a bit heavier on the family drama that I’d been expecting of a shortish book that was mostly porn-with-plot (well-written porn, mind you). Drama that was solved way too easily in the end for my liking.
I’ll probably continue this series, though.

If the only marker of successful story telling for Intoxicating by Onley James was the heat factor, then it would get five scorching stars and I could call it a day. There is a lot of intense, kinky, daddy/boy scenes—all of which I found to be both sensual and fairly emotional. This was an experienced man, Linc, taking an abused and wounded younger man, Wyatt, under his wing and giving him the attention and care he needs. This aspect of the novel I found to be both beautiful and well written. Each encounter Linc and Wyatt had, and there were many, felt like another step toward giving Wyatt the freedom to be himself—something he very much deserved. It also allowed Linc to begin his own healing process, of a sort, and, in doing so, allow him to experience love for the first time. I loved how this part of the story felt fresh and dynamic—keeping me on the edge of my seat as there was always the fear of exposure that would mean the end for both men and their fledgling love.

Way too much sex and not enough plot or character development.
Both guys used sex as a crutch, which would have been an interesting story in itself, but the author didn't go that way, instead opting for the magic healing dick trope. The Daddy-kink also felt way too abrupt, they never really talked about it before jumping right in.
I felt like Wyatt's family was just too evil, they were nothing but caricatures and I didn't get why Wyatt couldn't start his own life without his father meddling in it. He was 22, not 16-17, and while he lived a sheltered life, I'd guess someone as headstrong as he was, wouldn't just stand around while his parents abused him both mentally and physically. His life was a disaster after a disaster, he was abused terribly, humiliated and treated like shit, then in comes Linc - with his own severe problems, mind you - and Wyatt trusts him instantly. I think the author just tried to shove as much trauma into Wyatt's life as she could (abusive and absent parents, dead brother, conversion therapy, rape) just so Linc could come in and save the day, somehow?

This is one of those times that I really wish Goodreads had half stars because this is a solid 3.5 for me, but I didn't want to give it a 4. The writing is not bad and the premise is good but I think it was heavy on the sex (which is not necessarily a bad thing) and it could have used more plot.
I think the ending was a little rushed and I feel like it was a little unrealistic that two heavily damaged people should rush into marriage without getting help first. That's my opinion but one had severe PTSD and the other probably did too which manifested into self-harm and other self-destructive tendencies.
I loved Charlie. I was glad that Senator was getting his due. I was also glad there was mention of the other sexual predator, Victor, was probably going to get in trouble as well.
I may read the next in the series but I am in no rush.

I really think this was a case of me and not necessarily the book. All of the books in this series are somewhat similar and I had previously read books 4 and 2 within the last week. So I think it was just too much of the same thing. So I may try this one again sometime down the road.
At the time, this one just wasn't holding my interest. And again it felt a bit repetitive of the other two books.
That being said Onley James can write some smoking hot sex scenes and overall I enjoy the writing, etc. So I'll definitely be reading more.

Well this was an unexpected gem ! Really enjoyed this. A nice Daddy kink with a strong storyline around trauma & abuse. This was well written and certainly had me hooked. I haven’t read this author before but I’m looking forward to book 2.
