You know, I can't really figure why I kept reading. The premise of the story is actually fairly interesting. Its fatal errors were that (1) it didn't seem believable -- or perhaps I find the police and other authority figures in the story to be unbelievably inept and out of protocol; (2) there were just too many instances where the author seemed to be attempting to manipulate the reader's emotions, but hadn't built up enough facts to make the emotions believable. And the one gaping hole that I had an issue with was, after two deaths on the cruise ship, *whhhhy* wouldn't the cruise ship just halt its trip right then and there for forensics reasons, let alone why on earth would the characters just keep cruising...?
In short, my suspension of disbelief was pretty much spent. Additionally, the descriptions of the creepy antagonist in the beginning of the book (and throughout) just seemed stale and uninteresting.
It's all so unfortunate, because the story line was actually pretty good, and the plot twist was excellent. The delivery was just lacking.
It was a mercifully short read.
