I can always count on a Blake Pierce book to cheer me, alkaline my palette after other reads and make time fly by.

Jessie is off looking for a murderer on Catalina Island and Ryan, at a desk job, is trying to link a cold case to a current set of murders. Both cases are moving fast. At first I was more interested in Jessie’s, but when her’s ramps down, Ryan’s picks up chaotic speed and I felt I was plunging down a roller coaster.

And
It
Ends
With
A
Cliffhanger!!!

While I recommend this series, there are a couple things I haven’t liked about the past few installments, which I cannot reveal without spoilers. Rating 4 instead of 5 due to this. If you want to message me, I’ll share my thoughts.

Haven’t listened to this series in a while, but wanted a quick audiobook while I waited for others on hold. This one wasn’t my favorite in the series, Jessie’s subplot was pretty boring but really enjoyed the night hunter subplot, so I’m glad the cliffhanger alluded to him being a huge part of the next one! 🎧

I feel very committed to this series by this point so even if they were terrible I’d still finish, but this one gives me hope that things are about to get WILD again!

This series seems to be getting almost repetitive with Jessie’s cases, suspects, and drama. I really hope Blake Pierce spices up the next novel. It’s still a good police procedural/suspense read, but even being invested in Jessie, Ryan, Hannah, & Cat.. we are 13 books in, with at least 8 more published or publication date set, and I feel like the last few books have all been basically the same, and completely missing the excitement the beginning of the series was packed full of. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love Jessie Hunt and I enjoy the series. I'm happy to see Ryan getting better and able to work. But it would be great for the story to wrap up or there be a happy ending? Could some of this be condensed? Having drama with Cat, Hannah, an officer die or be seriously injured every book, and Jessie and Ryan passing in the night, there needs to be resolution. Get the old man.... and end it.

This one for me was the least exciting one. The real hook point came right towards the very end of the book sadly. Before that it was more like reading a water-down version of a mystery on a love boat.

As usual Blake Pierce keeps my attention from beginning to end. The cast of characters are a group of friends who have decided to go away for the weekend to Catalina Island and one of the ladies, Gabby, ends up dead. The LAPD HSS unit is called in and of course Captain Decker calls Jessie to see if she can help out and since it is the weekend and her school is on break she decides to help. Then we have Ryan Hernandez getting back into the swing of things. So the adrenaline has got him high as he lets Trembley and Jamil to help him with what he and Jessie suspect is going on with the two cases that he found, that the Night Stalker is back. This one is upsetting to me because one of the group of the team at the LA Station gets killed. There is so much drama in this one and then the angst that this story brought. The case that Jessie called in on the group that she has investigate gives the Impression that they are Perfect little group. I enjoyed this story because I love Jessie Hunt mysteries and I love the way that Blake Pierce writes these stories. Sometimes these stories cause me to be upset because of one of the characters that I like, but after reading 12 books in the series and this is number 13 eventually you are going to lose a character or two you like. If you love Jessie Hunt Mysteries you will like this book. If you like Blake Pierce mysteries you should try reading Jessie Hunt. This is a good read.

As innocent as any of Jessie Hunt's consultant profiler work starts out to be, she always manages to get herself into deadly confrontations with the prime suspect in every case! What a strong woman she is, but I continue to wonder why she deliberately puts herself in these situations to begin with! She is reckless. Jessie is called to lend her unique profiler skills in the investigation of a murder at an exclusive vacation resort. With limited law enforcement, most of whom are focused on keeping up the appearance of a discreet and confidential vacation destination, Jessie has to take charge of the investigation and convince the island detective he needs to do his job rather than look out for the captain's political goals. While she is working this case, her boyfriend, Ryan, has stumbled across a serial killer who quickly appears to be a long-wanted murderer once pursued by the notorious profiler, Garland Moses. As always, Jessie's sister, Hannah, continues to cause immature crises, and at the very end of this book, Hannah may just have pushed her luck way too far. Hannah's fate has now forced me to pre-order The Perfect Deceit, No. 14 in the series.

OH HELL NO! Jessie should be fired, dead, yelled at, left alone to live out her days with her stupid brain and idiotic ideas. When your backup hasn't arrived yet you don't ring the doorbell and then think about waiting for your partner before going inside. You wait in your car until they arrive and then you ring the doorbell together. Has she not learned this yet? I've lost count of the amount of times she confronts the suspect alone at home, of course always in the kitchen with many weapons, and then gets seriously hurt before backup arrives to take them in. The station needs to fire her ass and fire it good. She causes more problems than is helpful. Also, no one can stay away for that long and safely drive a car or do their job well. Not realistic at all. I like Hannah's character so much more and her storyline is a lot more interesting. Ryan's "consulting" while still injured is definitely against some labor laws or union protocols but you know - these books don't care about things like that. The swinger hotel was okay - nothing crazy earth shattering over here.

So after reading all the Jessie Hunt books, I am feeling like it's the same old, same old. This story - four couples go away for a weekend and one ends up murdered in her hotel room. It's on an exclusive island off the coast so Jessie must ferry over and solve the crime and, naturally, she does but not before putting herself in yet another dangerous situation. While I like that we have a murder investigation - its the serial killer story line that's killing me. How many serial killers are going to try to murder Jessie and her family? And the fact that he's in his 70's - come on. I am getting a bit bored with all this but - with all that being said - the book is a fast read and I will probably keep reading the series because at this point because I'm too far in and need to see it through.

Listened to the audiobook. More of a 2.5 rating. Somewhat disappointing - it seems like a transition & setting up for the next book. It ends with a cliffhanger. Definitely not a stand-alone story.

Opens with a dead body in a hotel room on Catalina Island (California), and is the wife of one of 4 couples vacationing together.

Seemed repetitive. Ryan is trying to get back to work mode. Does Hannah need to be committed? Jessie and Kat have a falling out. 'Night Hunter' (in his 70's) has surfaced again. Hope the next in this series is better.

Also disliked the picture on the book cover.

"You should be more careful,"

What a great twist. Seeing Jessie out on her own without her usual friends/partners to help, and having a completely different location, environment, atmosphere, vibe to work with was a great way to show off her lesser used skills, her patience, and her great people skills.

And it made me wonder how much is actually true about the motel/island vibe on Catalina. I have never heard of this "tourist attraction" before. I wonder if it only applies to the wealthy... 🤔

I will DEFINITELY be googling that later!

Thanks for keeping me on my toes, Blake Pierce! But really! Must you with the deaths! 😭💔

RIP!

Sniff. Sniff. 😢

Onto Book #14

This 13th series is by far the one with the most suspense. Jessie was so vulnerable with all the things happening in her life and her new case. She worked on a case where she lacked her previous support from people she knew. The resources available to aid her investigation were lacking. And ....The Night Hunter is back....to kill her and hurt everyone she loves. Ryan's state of health isn't helpful. I enjoyed the suspense offered by this series. I pray Hannah survives in the 14th series. I pray she does.....

The Perfect Impression

Jessie Hunt is one of my favorite murder hunter and Blake Pierce one of my very favorite crime writers. Jessie’s boyfriend Ryan is getting better but still has a long way to go. Her sister Hannah is breaking down teenage style. A murder is committed on Catalina in a boutique hotel for the very rich. Jessie is called in as a consulting criminal profiler.
A good story.

I'm quite addicted to this series I'm currently on the perfect mistress. I feel like at this point I've gotta read all about Jessie Hunt so I know what happens to her because I've followed her from her lunatic cheating husband to her crazy biological father and her crazy jailhouse interview with Crutchfield so I can't stop now that she's happy with her partner Ryan and her teenage sister living with her.

This book was so much better than the last one! I love when Jesse is a bit more isolated in her investigation and you can put the pieces together with her. This crowd of suspects was infuriating and the police force she worked with made me so mad but I know that’s the point.
I love seeing Ryan working his way back to his past life and he accidentally jumped in the deep end.
There’s something about this series that I just can’t stop reading. I love it!

The Perfect Impression, book thirteen.

As always, this book series is a guilty pleasure of mine and I always look forward to reading the next installment. This book did not disappoint. As always it was suspenseful as we follow not one case but two. One being Jessie Hunt's case and the other a cold case that detective Hernandez is working while on desk duty. Both keep us on our toes and the story lines moving. However, this one will leave you with a cliffhanger.

Purtroppo devo dare tre stelline allora:

My only issue with Blake Pierce novels is that they repeat information EVERY BOOK of a series. Great for someone not reading each book in the series, but pretty annoying for someone reading the series. Like this is book 14 or 15, I don't need to hear the back story of the main character for the 14th time. Good crime story though that keeps you on your toes, like each book.

I think I am kind of addicted to this series. I constantly want to know what is going to happen next in the series. I did guess the killer in the book, but I was not expecting half the stuff that happened outside of that case. I am excited to see what happens next in this series, especially with how this one finished off

Another great Jessie Hunt story!

The Perfect Impression was a good read. I'm a fan of Jessie Hunt and her ability to solve crimes. Although I loved this book I felt the story was too short. Hannah has more trouble to cause her sister.

Another good story in the continuation of the perfect series. Jessie hunt partners with a new detective to solve the latest murder. A few twists and turns and she gets her man. Ryan is healing and the epilogue leaves us hanging wanting more.
