But did you know that Cleo married, both her brothers, was dead brainy and spoke nine languages, and had her little sister killed? Yes - even though she's dead, Cleo's still full of surprises.

History has never been this much fun! The Dead-Famous series is Dead-Funny and a totally enjoyable trip.

Cleopatra and Her Asp takes you down The Nile, without an oar but armed with enough facts, gossip and tales of sauciness to put any of the modern-day soap operas to shame. The life of the Queen-who-bathed-in-ass's-milk is succinctly put together in a collection of ‘secret’diary entries, newspaper (or tablet) scoops and whinging letters that travelled back and forth between the Egyptians and The Romans.

The illustrations are the icing on the cake…they are droll, replete with word-play and an absolute delight.

For all those who like their history put in a simple and interesting format (me!)…who love illustrations, especially the phased-out ones(me!)…and don’t mind the odd twisting of fact in non-fiction(yep, you guessed it-->me!)...this is a must read.

When I got this book as a present I was really excited about it. History has never been so much fun. The author's style of writing made the story seem so real. I really loved the funny facts found throughout the book. I'm looking forward to reading another book from the "Dead Famous" collection.

Buku ini sebenarnya Children's Book, isinya menarik walaupun tidak berwarna dan Ilustrasi nya lucu dan sedikit sarkas yang aku suka banget. Butuh bantuan Google translate dan kamus di setiap halamannya, tetapi aku cukup menikmatinya.

I picked up the Horribly Famous series as they looked much like the Horrible Histories book I love so much and I was pleased that this book was very much like them. Facts are interspersed with 'extracts from Cleopatra's diary' and 'newspaper articles' which makes it come alive much more. Cleopatra isn't someone I knew a great deal about so I actually learnt a lot from this book and I'd certainly read another book from this series.

3.5 Love any book that reflects how interesting history truly is! I know this story is ancient, but my only issue is that I wanted to know fact from fiction because a lot of what I know about Cleopatra is from Shakespeare, so it would be nice to have more clearly defined sections of what is somewhat factual, verses what is truly accurate. Still, highly recommended for any little historian.

Esse é um livro de não-ficção pra crianas e adolescentes, que faz parte da coleção Mortos de Fama. E o livro em si é uma graça, cheio de ilustrações engraçadas com carinha de fofoca contemporânea, como jornais e diários adolescentes... Como disse, uma graça!
E apesar de ter uns errinhos e alguns vícios históricos tendenciosos, vale a pena pela leitura divertida.

Một cuốn sách thú vị về cuộc đời của Nữ hoàng Ai Cập Cleopatra Thea, vị nữ hoàng nổi tiếng thế giới bởi sự thông minh, sắc sảo và bởi cuộc tình của bà với hai người đàn ông La Mã đầy quyền lực nhất thời bấy giờ là Julius Caesar và Mark Antony. Từ lúc lên ngôi nữ hoàng khi Ai Cập đang trên đà "phá sản", không những bảo vệ được ngôi báu của mình, bà còn góp phần đưa Ai Cập hùng mạnh trở lại. Dẫu có rất nhiều toan tính, máu xương và nước mắt, không thể nói rằng hai tay bà hoàn toàn sạch sẽ, nhưng những gì bà làm đã giúp ích cho Ai Cập không bị La Mã xâm lược, nhận được sự bảo trợ mà không phải trả những khoản tiền khổng trong nhiều năm liền từ đế chế La Mã.

Hầu như trang nào trong sách cũng có ít nhất một lỗi: một số chữ dính nhau không dấu cách, dịch ngôi xưng không thống nhất trong những lá thư giả định, sai lỗi chính tả làm mạch cảm xúc bị gián đoạn. Mong rằng nhà xuất bản sẽ biên tập kỹ lưỡng hơn trong lần xuất bản sau.

I have already read about 5 books in this series. The Dead Famous series has a book dedicated to Dead Famous people such as Roald Dahl, Alexander, Al Capone, Queen Victoria, Cleopatra and some others. The series reveals some quirky facts about their lives, its almost like an autobiography just not as boring as the thick ones found in dim corners of libraries. Its funny and reveals some astonishing and interesting facts.....

Horrible histories used to be my favourite when I was a kid and this is just like an extended version of that, with the focus on people instead of a specific time period. These books are good, perfect for any child who is interested in history, especially historical figures. If they like history as a whole, horrible histories is probably better but if they are interested in the person on the cover, it's a must have.

This book was horrible! It was so inaccurate. First, Cleopatra didn't even die by an asp. It is not possible under the circumstances. The scientists now conclude that she was murdered by Octavian, the captor of Egypt. Second, she didn't marry her brothers willingly, she was forced to by her dad. They weren't married for long because one kicked her off the throne into the Sahara to raise an army, and the other drowned in the Nile while running from the angry Romans that wanted to kill him. She didn't murder her sister. That was the story the Romans made up to cover up that they executed her. Another reason is that her alliances with Caesar and Antony were actually not for love; they wanted her gold and she wanted Rome not to seize Egypt. Cleopatra was a much better queen that they portrayed in that book.

Quyển sách này khá hay và hài hước. Cách viết về Cleopatra quả thật lôi cuốn và mình cũng rất bất ngờ là mình có thể đọc liền tù tì nó như vậy, vì trước giờ mình ít có thể hoàn toàn tập trung vào quyển nào như vậy. Ấy thế mà quyển sách nhỏ này lại đủ thú vị đến thế đó!
Tuy nhiên, thật lòng mà nói mình khá thất vọng về cách in ấn của NXB Trẻ. Quyển sách còn khá nhiều sạn, những lỗi về khoảng cách, cách viết câu,... Điều này diễn ra từ đầu đến cuối luôn. Mình thật lòng mong NXB kiểm tra kĩ hơn nữa thay vì in ấn một cách hời hợt như vầy.

Adoro estes livros dos "Finados Famosos", aliás, adoro toda esta colecção das "História Horrível". Numa maneira divertida e leve acabam por contar factos históricos que são muito fáceis de decorrar e ajudam uma pessoa a fazer um brilharete.
Tenho vários volumes desta colecção, maioritariamente sobre civilizações, e até hoje nunca me desapontaram. Recomendo vivamente a quem gosta de coisas divertidas e de saber factos interessantes da nossa história.

Dette er en biografi skrevet for barn/tenåringer. Forfatteren har gjort noen justeringer for å gjøre det mer forståelig for dagens ungdom, men er tro mot historiske hendelser. Boka er spekket med humoristiske illustrasjoner og tegneseriestriper. Vil du ha en liten repetisjon om Egypts udødelige dronning, og to av Romerrikets mektigste herskere, dette er boken du skal lese!

Segundo presente para o meu sobrinho de 8 anos. O cinema, claro, vendeu uma Cleopatra linda, de olhos claros, enquanto a verdadeira era baixinha, gorda e nariguda, mas sua beleza reinou na sua inteligência e astúcia.
