The Last Kids on Earth: Thrilling Tales from the Tree House

Rate this book
SIX brand-new, full-color graphic novel stories from the Last Kids crew--that reveal the mysterious whereabouts of two villainous villains and prep readers for the 7th book in the series!

The kids and their monster buddies are hanging out in the tree house, when Jack launches into an epic, totally-heroic, super rad story of one of his many post-apocalyptic adventures. Of course, after he's finished, everyone's eager to one-up his tale with a story of their own. Soon, Quint, Dirk, June and Skaelka, and even Globlet regale the group with sometimes outrageous, often hilarious details of their action-packed escapades during the monster-zombie apocalypse.

When a ferocious monster attacks the tree house during their board-game night, the Last Kids on Earth and their monster buddies launch into telling their own adventurous tales to prove who is worthy enough to fight the deadly monster one-on-one.

“The Last Kids on Earth: Thrilling Tales from the Tree House” is the first ever graphic novel in the Last Kids series that features six amazing comics each illustrated by a different artist all in full-color. Each entry of the series is extremely fun, action-packed and filled with wonderful illustrations, this novel is no exception. In fact, the illustrations are above and beyond in this novel with the different art styles for each thrilling tale. I thought that each story was hilarious and allowed the readers of the series to hear from characters that have never gotten their own perspective shared before. The sixth and final story is by far my favorite for its focus on two characters that I’ve been itching to learn more about while providing some intriguing teases for the upcoming seventh book: the Doomsday Race. Overall, this graphic novel is an absolute blast, I had a great time reading it and I hope we get to see more like this from the Last Kids on Earth. I’ll like to mention something that I really admire about this book, which are the actual pages, they have the feel of traditional comic book pages (which were mostly made from recycled material) with a tougher and thicker feel to them. That was something I immediately noticed reading the book and admired very much. As always, I recommend this novel to any fan of the Last Kids series and for even those who really like comic books/graphic novels, I think this is something worth seeing here.

Thanks for reading!

As a monster moves in to attack the Tree House where Quint, Jack, June, and Dirk live, everyone plus Globlet and Skaelka thinks they should go fight the monster solo. To settle the dispute they have a story sharing contest of their most epic achievements. So readers get Jack, Quint, Dirk, Globlet, and June/Skaelka's epic adventure stories in graphic novel form before the monster is tackled. And then readers get to find out what Evie Snark and Ghazt have been up to since they last appeared (setting things up for book 7).

I liked how the illustrators chosen for each story reflect the personalities of the characters. Those match ups were done well. The stories range from funny to absurd to exciting (you can probably guess which based on the character narrating). You definitely want to read this after book 6 and before book 7 as there are spoilers for and references to events in book 6 and important info for book 7. Hand this to fans of the series. They will gobble it up.

Notes on content: No language issues. No sexual content. There are some monster battles, but in general monsters are usually scared off more than vanquished, and things shown on page are a little funny gross instead of disturbing gross.

This just wasn't very good. I'm not a big fan of short stories anyway, so I almost didn't even want to pick this up.

Everything that was getting old about the stories comes back and is cranked to eleven. The emotion of Dirk dealing with his father, the cool new voice of Jane getting her own story, the exploration of the world is all absent here.

We're back to shouting non-sequiturs, while random stuff seems to happen and it all ends with a catchphrase and a pizza party. I never really found myself engaged in the tales, never felt an emotional connection, and just wasn't interested. It wasn't funny, the stories weren't unique enough to be worth my time, the characters all sound the same. The only one with even a little personality is Quint, and his might be the shortest story.

I guess it'll hold you over until the next book, but it isn't really worth it.

This was so much fun! It was awesome being back with the gang especially in this new, full colour graphic novel style! The different artists for each story was a nice touch too!

This just made me even more excited for the next book in the series. I’d definitely say this is a must read if you’re a fan of Jack and the gang!

If you have read The Last Kids on Earth Series, then you will enjoy this comic book of short stories. There is a monster attacking the tree house and whoever tells the best story wins the right to fight it! Will it be Quint and his gadgets? June? Jack? Dirk? You will only know if you read the stories!

i really loved this series💕💕 it's fun, entertaining, and imaginative. my favorite part of this audiobook is interlude 5 to The Epic Tale of The Epic Stuff You Never Saw Happen (But Should Probably Know About!) haha so that's what happen before THAT part on the other book.

Happy I was introduced to this series all those years ago by my kids Battle of the Books. My kids aren't interested in these graphic novels but I am still enjoying them.

Hilarious graphic novel. The audiobook version is equally hilarious and well-narrated. The multiple stories told in the book are fun and engaging. Perfect for your middle grade reader!

I didn’t like this one, but in the book’s defense, I didn’t read it in the correct order either.

Haha, apparently you have to have read book 5.5 and 6 for this. Just a shame that Amazon has been so difficult with books, because this here book took 3 months before it was available and my pre-order could be sent.
IN this book we have a HIGHLY annoying new character named Globlet who is making me think if I want to continue the series... because for now it is a big fat freaking NOPE. God, I am happy that the other half of the stories DIDN't feature that freaking annoying thing. Otherwise I would have DNF it.
But most of the stories were fun to read and I really had a laugh, for instance June's story was just the best though I totally didn't recognise her companion in that one, haha.
I loved that we ended with villain stories!
I also really liked the various art styles in this one and hyped to see a few of my favourites pop up.

My grandson liked the variety of art styles—especially guest artist Anoosha Syed who drew “A Gaggle of Globlets.” The lost star comes largely for two stories: the audience abuse over “soul/sole” in “Danger on the Diamond” and the looong wind-up in the misleadingly titled “The Epic Tale of Epic Stuff You Never Saw Happen (But Should Probably Know About),” which sets the .

The description of “graphic novel” also misleads. While there is a frame tale that brackets five largely unrelated stories, it comes to nothing. It’s nice to look at. In the cuisine of children lit, ‘Tales from the Tree House’ is a variety 6-pack of frosted cupcakes, hold the cake.

I’ve completely enjoyed the series so far but this just feels like a money grab. I do not recommend unless you have kids who love the series or students who love the series. I prefer the story vs these little tales. I do not recommend this one.

My fourth graders (mostly the boys) rave about the Last Kids on Earth series, so I decided a quick read of the graphic novel was the way to go. I don’t see what the appeal is, but I’m also not a 9 year old male so…

The comics are so fun! Each character has to tell the most epic story of them defeating monsters in order to see who is the winner. The characters are funny and quirky! I love how this was written and drawn by a bunch of different authors! Very cool!

This book was great! I loved getting short stories for each of the main characters, and the different art styles from the different artists was probably my favorite part!
