Savarin honed his Talent through years of study, and to achieve his goal of becoming the most powerful and accomplished sorcerer in Tournai, he made magic his life. Among the wealthy and noble circles he moves in, no one would suspect the handsome, refined, arrogant sorcerer’s humble beginnings—which is how Savarin prefers it. He wants to be seen only as the man he’s made ...more

This book was a struggle. I almost didn’t finish it multiple times. First of all it was a bit boring. I ended up skimming some while Savarin and Loriot were traveling inspecting the borders. The other problem was Savarin. He was just so unlikable. He was such a tedious and arrogant self-centered individual that I just couldn’t warm up to him. Even at the end when he supposedly opened up more to Loriot, I didn’t like him. And I just didn’t find the romance between Loriot and Savari

Ok, let me first say that I've read all of the books so far in the Tournai series and I'm done with them. I just can't read any more. In general, the pace is slow-to-boring, the action occurs off-page, the cover art is dreadful, and I lack connection to the characters. But the setting is wonderful, if the characters a little too 2-D and stagnant. I mean, I get the impression that the author really doesn't know what her characters do for a living. There's talk of "meetings" and "estate business" ...more

I have enjoyed the Tournai series so much, and so far this is my favorite installment. The Sorcerer’s Guardian tells the story of sorcerer Savarin and guard captain Loriot, thrown together on a road-trip as they check the mysteriously weakening magical safeguards that protect the kingdom. It’s great to see a bit more of the shape of the kingdom, beyond the capital city and the royal family, as we get to in this book.

One of the most enjoyable things about this series for me is the way Aquilante

*I received a copy of this novel for free in exchange for an honest review*

When the Princes of Tournai task the sorcerer Savarin to study and strengthen the spells that protect the kingdom, he is rather displeased to discover that they have also ordered Captain of the Guard Loriot to accompany and protect him. Savarin is very much used to doing things on his own terms and feels that he does not or want Loriot’s protection. Loriot is equally unhappy about the decision, however on their journey th

2017 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: The Sorcerer's Guardian (Chronicles of Tournai #4)
1) A perfect score from me for this elegantly written tale of wizardry and enduring love. Savarin is a master wizard, Loriot, the captain of the royal guard - an unlikely and reluctant pairing when Lorriot is directed to guard Savarin on his quest to shore up the magical defenses of Tournai. At first irritated by the wizard's seeming arrogance, Loriot grows to admire Savarin's strength of character and brave

This is the fourth book in the ‘Chronicles of Tournai’ series, set in a fantasy world where almost everyone has some level of magical Talent and the royal family has a whole lot but keep it a secret. After the excitement of the mighty empire of Ardunn attempting to overpower the much smaller but resilient country of Tournai in the previous book, the storyline focuses on the mysterious defenses that have protected Tournai so far, but seem to be weakening. None other than Savarin, the powerful sor ...more

Loriot, Captain of The Royal Guard. A dedicated soldier and father to Alain. Told he must accompany the grumpy, rather dour, Master Savarin, to protect him while he investigates the magical protections surrounding Tournai he knows he can’t tell the prince he doesn’t want to go. As time progresses they become more attuned to each other.

I enjoyed reading about these adversaries, going from not quite friends to lovers. The world building was pretty amazing. Not having our modern conveniences (telep

I got this book as an ARC, and it's the fourth in a series. Fortunately, this doesn't affect the reading too much. I didn't feel like I missed too much, just enough to go back and read the first three books. I loved this because I gravitate towards sorcerers and magic users. So I love Savarin, but I admit he's not the most likeable guy all the time. He's extremely determined and stubborn, but that works for me. Loriot can be just as stubborn, but unlike Savarin, he doesn't have any magical abili ...more

A must read in the Tournai series! A beautiful love story!

Mild Disclaimer before I begin this review, I am totally biased to this series and am in love with it. Okay? Let’s go then.

This was different as the first three books each had a member of the royal family in it and in this, we have two men who are charged and trusted with not only the protection of the royal family but their secrets as well. It makes sense that Savarin and Loroit would be perfect for one another for who could handle the men who hold such power in Tournai.

The men are th

Another MM book with bisexual main characters! Just like the second book in the series, and let's not forget about the third book which actually starts out with a main character marrying a woman. I didn't read the first book in the series but I can only imagine the numerous heterosexual relationships those characters will have to 'overcome' to be together. ...more

Antonia Aquilante has been making up stories for as long as she can remember, and at the age of twelve, decided she would be a writer when she grew up. After many years and a few career detours, she has returned to that original plan. Her stories have changed over the years, but one thing has remained consistent - they all end in happily ever after.

She has a fondness for travel (and a long list of
