Aiden Varik has had two great loves in his very long life.

Healing Aiden is the fifth and final book in the Lords of Discord paranormal romance series. This book contains vampires, werewolves, witches, overprotective sons, secrets, broken hearts, hope, redemption, and a love that will never end.

I spent the majority of this book on the verge of tears or clutching at my chest as my heart pounded at the adrenaline rush of the plotline.
Healing Aiden is a perfect goodbye to this astonishingly good paranormal romance series from Jocelynn.
It's a love story forged over a millennia and more.
Starting with a couple of young men, forced to keep their feelings buried under a wealth of privilege and title, the story jumps past a thousand years of separation, each thinking the other was dead, before drawing them together again just as Aiden takes his crown as ruler of the American domain.
I'm so glad Jocelynn gave us Aiden's story. He's been the beating heart of the Varik Clan as each of the Lords of Discord have found their true mates.
A somewhat shadowy figure, but vitally important in all things, he has always had an air of sadness because of the fate of his other love, Julianna Varik.
Finding Ronan again felt perfect to me. It was a circle closing, a long and painful wound finally starting to heal.
I adored Ronan. There is a scene at the start of the book which had me almost howling as three of the Varik sons, plus mates, come to have 'a word' with him regarding his intentions towards Aiden.
That he kept his sense of humour only endeared him to me even more. I also appreciated that there was no messing about with his feelings or his reason for joining the European Ministry envoy.
I never doubted him once, it was clear just how affected he was to discover Aiden still alive.
The suspense element of the narrative also worked, it felt like an organic outcome from the end of the previous books, although Aiden's power when he finally chooses to reveal it did make me blink for a moment or two.
But then I figured any vampire still alive after more than 10 centuries would have accumulated such immense control and built up an incredible amount of power, that it made sense he could be that dangerous.
With the Varik boys throwing their oar in without warning, the plot meanders through humour and hijinks into emotional vulnerability and seriously smexy times.
The first time Aiden and Ronan are in bed together is incandescently hot yes, but it's so much more.
It's second chances, it's first times with the love you thought you'd lost, it's humour and it's coming home.
This is a beautiful farewell to these vampires and their Clan which will steal your heart.
#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.
Oh I am so happy that we got a final installment for Aiden, the enigmatic but kind and wonderful adoptive father to the four Varik sons.
It's been a few months since Winter's book at the start of this one - after a prologue that lets us know a little bit about Aiden's origin and taste of what his and Ronan's relationship was like when they were human - and Aiden has started to settle into being the King of the American vampires. He still insists in his mind that it will only be temporary, but as the book goes on, we see how he is a perfect fit for the job and probably will be the King for a long time to come.
When there is a party of sorts at Marcus' house, sort of a formal introduction as Aiden, King of the Vampires, and important vampires from all over come to meet him, the European Convoy has sent 3 representatives.
Among them, is Ronan. Who Aiden thought he lost the night he was turned into a vampire a very long time ago. It's been centuries, and to say Aiden is floored at seeing his first and long lost love is an understatement.
But they both soon discover that there is still that spark between them, still that something that made them love each other so long ago. Aiden is weary at first, understandably, because he hasn't seen Ronan in hundreds and hundreds of years and thought he was dead. So much could happen in such a long time.
But after a few conversations - and Aiden's meddling sons - these two start to find that they're not much different from the men they once knew and loved.
Ronan turns out to be the perfect partner for Aiden, and it doesn't take long for him to start to not only fit into Aiden's life, but to fit in with the Varik clan as well, with Aiden's sons and their mates who mean so much to Aiden.
We also get to see Aiden be vulnerable in a way he never truly showed before this book, with Ronan. He had to be strong and kind, but ultimately protective of his sons, as much as he loves them so dearly. As a father, he rarely shows them his vulnerable side. With Ronan as a lover, he is able to let go a little, let out some of his worries and fears and be intimate with someone again.
It's been a year since Julianna died, but Aiden did his grieving and he is ready to find happiness again, which is what she would want. And really, with him not being able to be around her for almost 200 years, he's had a lot longer to mourn who she once was and their relationship as well.
So when Ronan comes back into his life, it doesn't take long for Aiden to fall over again.
But the European Ministry won't go quietly, and at first the Varik brothers, especially Winter, are weary of Ronan and don't trust him, but Ronan proves himself in spectacular fashion.
I loved this final installment, it was a perfect way to round out the stories of this close nit, lovable family.
And to Aiden finally get his happily ever after once and for all as well. He deserves it. And after going so long without Ronan as well, getting that second chance with him.
Two massive thumbs up from me. Definitely worth a read. Loved this series by Miss Drake. Now onto the next :D
4.5 🌟’s. What a fantastic conclusion to this amazing series!!!😍👏🏻 I was so happy to get Aidens story and his and Ronan past history, they were meant to be! 🥰 It was also sweet and entertaining how protective the Varik family was of their father. Thankful we got Aidens story! 😊
I'm not exactly sure what happened here but I didn't really like this one.
I was cautious but excited about getting Aiden's story. With his age I thought it would be very interesting to get his history. It would be one of those finally moments when he got his happily ever after. I just expected to feel complete knowing that now they all were safe and happy and in love.
But, we didn't really get his history. It seems his life went from human to Vampire and then to Varik and there wasn't much in between. What happened when he was changed? I never understood in that instant where he went.
I was hoping his second chance at love was going to be exciting and overwhelming and full of feeling and well, I just don't believe that an ocean kept their secret for ONE THOUSAND YEARS.
Hasn't everyone heard of the Varik's?
I didn't even feel anything between them really. If anything I was a little uncomfortable with it. I can't imagine being so standoffish. I just didn't understand any of it or feel this great ever lasting love.
Ugh. I feel like I just am going to rip this apart and I don't want to do that so I'm quitting now.
This read mostly silly, juvenile and totally unbelievable. I enjoyed seeing the boys and their mates and that for sure helped with the rating, but the rest? I didn't like it. I think I just expected something different from Aiden's HEA.
This final installment of the series is bittersweet and amazing. Aiden is an amazing character, and I needed him to have a happy ending so badly. The authors did a wonderful job, and his love survived so much time and heartache. I was very surprised by some truths we discover about him, but I will give no spoilers. Aiden's love for his children is beyond beautiful. He fell in love with their mother first, and they stole his heart from the first meeting. He is loving, stable, and protective without stifling their freedoms in a way that is perfection. I was beyond astounded when I learned of his vampiric gift. His discipline and desire to fight with his family without his powerful gift shows a compassion and fortitude to match his age and wisdom. This was by far my fave and most anticipated in this wonderful series. My only regret is not getting a longer glimpse into his past. However, I knew this was a novella so I was not too surprised or disappointed. This series overall is amazing, and I'm sure a re-read in the future.
I am speechless. Aiden’s book is everything I could have ever wanted and more. We get to see him as more than a father and protector, we also get to meet his beloved Ronan, and even experience the great love that he holds for his sons. Ronan was just with Aiden needed, he made him laugh, he made him feel alive, they were sexy together, extremely hot and I am simply obsessed with this truly amazing family. Jocelynn is the queen of series, very few authors can make you call in love with their characters like this. This was PERFECTION
Re-read July 2021 - Audiobook version AMAZING! The narration was superb. I was so so happy with this. I’m just obsessed with these vampires and their mates.
I have LOVED every book in this series and Healing Aiden is a wonderful way to conclude this fantastic series, Lords of Discord has become my second favourite series by Jocelynn Drake and a series I will be reading over and over again when I need some warm, fuzzy feelings.
I loved Aiden and Ronan together, definitely a blast from the past, these two are perfect together and they finally get a chance to be together and be a couple.
I loved how protective the boys are towards their father when Ronan is around with all the usual banter/ bickering / teasing, while reading most of this I had a huge smile on my face.
I finally got some answers to some questions I had as well, what is Ethan's power? How old is Aiden and what is his power? I could not remember if I knew this or not BUT I didn't, that was cool.
As with the previous books in this series, it is the bond between the Varik clan that completes these romances for me.
Goodbye my Varik friends ❤ Marcus & Ethan ❤🎹💻 ❤ Rafe & Phillippe 🎻 ❤ Bel, River & Wyatt ❤ 🐾 ❤ Winter & Fox ❤🎸 ❤ Aiden & Ronan ❤ 👑
This was such a amazing ending to this series! I may have not read the 1st 2 books, but the later 3 have endeared me to it. I love this fam so much!! Will definitely come to read this again! It introduced me to Jocelynn's books!
A heartaching story of 2 star crossed lovers who find eachother again in this delightful, Action-full, cute, sexy story about loves that transcends time. Ya, Aiden & Ronan made me poetic, duh.
This was the 1st book in the series which I didn't skip the prologue of (reasons), my review will be short & non-spoiler as always for here:
Aiden has been the great, serious father figure in this series. I love & admire him so much. Last book, he became the "king" taking over American vampires, atleast for a while. This takes 6 months after (whole book in December!), where at the party, he meets Ronan...After so, so long.
Ronan & Aiden have history that I'm so not spoiling, as humans they couldn't have been together but as vamps they get a chance. Ronan is spontaneous, hilarious, strong, & he makes Aiden young, happy (that goes both ways!). They're both so honourable, & great with swords, hehe.
R was bored, so he took work with European ministry, who are the baddies here, but they never had his loyalty, didn't deserve it. Aiden? Yes he has it. The cautiousness broke my heart, but Aiden had so much to lose. But I'm so glad R didn't back down. Slowly, both winning eachother's trust. They had it as humans, they come to have it as vamps. Their love is so heart pounding, beautiful. Sex is hot (Switch couple alert!), chemistry great! HEA (they deserve all the happiness!!) & epilogue is great!! (≧▽≦)
That was so fun when Aiden's sons came to "visit" Ronan for that 1st time. Like, omg 😂. All their scenes were so good! My big babies 😭🥺🥰.
When we find about Aiden+Ronan's ages & powers, the reactions were just what I needed!

Aiden has been a vampire for a long time - even longer than I thought, 1000 years. We finally get his whole story with this book, of his life as a human, and the first time he met the entire Varik family. I just loved getting to see him meet the Varik brothers when they were kids.
I also loved Aiden getting his HEA. I love the entire Varik family and their mates, and I just loved all the interactions and moments between them all.
I can't recommend this series enough if you're looking for vampire romance (but also wolf shifters and witches). The characters are just so endearing and I love the entire family feel to the overall series. HIGHLY recommend this series, and read in order!
Can't wait for more from Jocelynn (and honestly, I want more of this series!!!)
Aiden and Ronan were an unexpected couple, they both thought the other one was death, but they are both very alive, very old and very together.
This book was sweet, revealing and a lovely last story, with this last installment we know all of the secrets that there are and we know that the Variks are a lovely family with infinite strength.
My problem? When you have a character who is a thousand years old, who has been a rock, a father figure, a mystery, a powerful motherfucker and then you turn him into a sappy guy because he fell in love, it bothers me. This has happened to me once before, this type of characters are hard to manage and it shows no matter who writes it.
And all the fisical stuff in front of people and the private conversations in front of people made me uncomfortable. BUT I did enjoy it, It was really sweet and Aiden did deserve a shoulder to lean on, because the guy has been alone for a long time and the pressure is too much for just him. I'm happy for him. Did I wanted more? Yes, but is still a lovely read.
I skipped Winter because I couldn't finish it, he was another character with a mysterious presence and the way the author developed his book, with insta love, lots of sex, and a mate that was more interested in getting in Winter's pants than in the fact that a lot of people want to kill him or just the fact that he's a witch and should do something, It didn't do him justice in my opinion, so I didn't finish.
Still, a lovely series with badasses vampires, loved their banter, their bond as a family and their love. It was a pleasure to meet them.
Healing Aiden is the fifth and final book of this series and is not a stand-alone. It was very hard to even just type the final book of this series because I don’t ever want to let go of the Varik Family. I have have so many laughs at the antics Marcus, Rafe, Bel, and Winter come up with. Their banter is so much fun. Their love for each other is something everyone should feel. They will go to any extent to protect the ones they love. What else can you ask for from this family? I think the only thing to say is you want to be a Varik too.
Just in the first 7% of the book I cried for many different reasons of which I won’t spoil, but I will say one of the reasons is the love that Aiden has for his sons. It has been clear from Claiming Marcus his love of the boys but throughout the series and especially this book you see his love and their returned love. I really have no words for the feelings this gave me. I found myself saying awe and having the tears run down my face.
There is no one that deserves love and happiness as much as Aiden does. Aiden and Ronan’s love truly stood the test of time. A very long time. It’s amazing how the roles are now reversed with who is taking the role as KING. However, both men will never stay from wanting to protect the other no matter who is King. As reading, there were two words that put butterflies in my stomach when first said, “Kiss Me.” Aiden and Ronan were so incredibly sexy together that their love just radiated.
Ronan’s return and Aiden return of the teenage love is what he needed to fully heal from his past including Julianna and to live a happy loved life.
I absolutely love and adored this book as well as the first four in this series. This is a family I will never ever forget and would to live in their world and family. It’s really hard to say goodbye but this book and series because this has been one of my favorite series of vampires. Maybe we can see a little short of them in the future?
Brava! I don't rate often I definitely don't rate usually if I am just content with the book..lol. No matter what I was craving at the time for a book this series, anytime a new book was available, I grabbed it. It has everything that you want action, adventure, a great storyline, amazing MC's. I just finished this book and I'm totally about to start the series over from the beginning 1 to 5. Thinking about getting the audible. Again brava to the author it was excellent and totally leaves a reader with that warm satisfied afterglow.
The last book in this series is about the head of the Varik clan. Aiden's story is emotional & beautiful, and I've loved every bit of it.
Aiden getting a second chance to have his first love, was well deserved. While Ronan and Aiden are getting reacquainted after so much time, learning about each other, the Varik boys too are very invested in their father's love-capades and are not missing any opportunity to tell him so. “A large family…who can hear everything you do to their father”
While it seems like this is the last installment in this series, I do hope we'll get an extended epilogue on the lives of the Varik men.
I'm delighted that Aiden gets his HEA, and in quintessential Jocelynn Drake style. Aiden anchors The Lords of Discord series and deserves this lovely chapter of his own. He's my favorite of all of the Variks, and his Ronan my favorite of the mates. It's an epic second chance romance, and exactly the book Aiden deserves.
This is not a standalone and should not be read before the rest of the series, which is not a hardship because if you are looking for this type of book, you'll love the rest of the series.
This was ridiculously satisfying. Aiden needed to have his story told and while the amount of time that has passed since he last saw Ronan is a little unbelievable I didn't care. These two deserved to find each other again and find a way to finally get all the things they never had a chance to discover with each other.
I enjoyed seeing all of his boys giving Aiden a hard time. They do so enjoy teasing each other and him. I loved how Ronan just fit in with them all. He had to prove that his loyalty was always going to be to Aiden not to the European Ministry.
In the end this story nicely rounds out all of this families lives. They all get to move into their HEA and the reality is no one is likely to mess with them for quite awhile now that Aiden's revealed a little bit more of who he is. ;) I would love to spend more time with these guys, but at the same time I'm happy for where they all are at.
Well, Aiden sure gives Winter's book a run for his money.
This stands as my favorite of the series alongside Winter's book, Embracing Winter. I loved knowing more of Aiden's past, and how he finally found his first love, Ronan. It was young love back then - heck, they didn't even share a kiss!! - but now they were more mature, more experienced. I thought Aiden deserved the happiness. Ronan was the less serious one, and he made Aiden more relaxed.
It was ADORABLE reading Aiden's stepsons all being protective of him - and how it shocked them that their stepfather was
The epilogue shared wonderful glimpses of The Variks after all it was being said and done...
Can my entire review be: oh Aiden sniff oh Ronan sniff awwwww
No?
This is the final book in the series, and because it builds on the first four and concludes a plot thread, you can’t read it as a standalone. The good news about that tho is you get to know all of Aiden’s sons and their LIs, so the desire for Aiden to find love again grows and grows.
Playing favorites and skipped the rest for this one. Loved it. Think the only downside is I can't listen to a sneaky chapter like the kindle version because I can't get away with the pink headphones at work. The narrator's voice was nice and did a good job with Roman. Think the only other two I'll listen to is Bel and Winter's books.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Aiden & Ronan! Wow. Lots going on here throughout this book. The Varik Clan is amazing and it’s growing so well. Couldn’t be more perfect. A follow up would be awesome too! ROFL. Thanks to my beautiful sister for introducing me to the Varik Clan. 💜💜💜
Good ending to a series. Pretty low angst, and just nice fluff. The plot itself was a little anti-climatic... but I didn't read this book for the plot ;) I read it for the fluffy happily ever after.
This was an excellent ending to this series!!! I hate that it is ending but Aiden got is HEA. The sire of the Varik clan who had to watch his second mate from afar and secure his family from demise at every corner has finally found what his sons have, love from HIS first love Ronan. Great book!!! Great book!
This book reminds me of why I love this series so much, and want it in paperback. I love the Variks, and I enjoyed the insight of watching them from Aiden’s POV, and finally reading out his story.
I loved how the story started with his time as human with Ronan, and then showed his first meeting with the boys would be become his sons. I enjoyed the glimpse of Julianna before she became ill, and seeing why she and Aiden fell in love.
This story has everything I’ve come to expect from the Variks, and more. Their banter is one of my favourite parts, and this had that in spades. I loved how Ronan fitted right in, and catching up with Winter and Fox in particular now they’ve been together a while.
I liked that Aiden did struggle with feeling disloyal to Julianna, and the message via Winter was very sweet. I figured that had come towards the end of the last book for good reason. I love Aiden’s relationship with his family and vice versa, and how Ronan takes Ethan under his wing re his powers.
I loved how Aiden and Ronan pick up with their banter, as though no time has passed at all, yet are understandably wary of each other. Wow, they’re old. I had to laugh about the ongoing bet, and how none of the Variks were even close with their guesses. The insight as to why Aiden didn’t want to be king made a lot of sense, and made his becoming the king of the American vampires all the more bittersweet. He and Ronan together are fabulous, and they’re good for each other, and not just because they share a history, but because they understand each other in a way no one else can. Their first meeting is wonderfully tentative, as is their touching of each other, and making sure each other is real.
The world building is fabulous, and I particularly liked the thinking about what would happen if wolves were turned, and that Winter and Fox are considering the long term repercussions of their life together. Ronan’s power is cool, but Aiden’s....wow, never saw that coming, and understandable why he doesn’t use it. I like how their powers hook into their personalities and what they’ve been through.
I liked the way the plot was woven through Aiden and Ronan’s relationship, and the closure with the European vampires whom I suspect won’t be bothering them again.
The ending was perfect, adding wonderfully well to the ongoing instagram theme of the other books in the series. I’m going to miss these guys.
This was an enjoyable reread. I actually think I liked it more this time around. While the abundance of errors still bothered me, I was just as happy to see Aiden and Ronan find their HEA after being apart for so many years. We got to be with the family as a whole more than in their individual books and I really liked that. There is such a close connection between the brothers and their mates, and it’s fun to read their banter. The epilogue was great! I didn’t remember that this book takes place in December, so it was kind of a bonus holiday read. 🎄🎄🎄
Original review:
I’m so happy that Jocelynn Drake gave us Aiden’s happily ever after. He deserved it after the many years he spent raising, protecting, and loving the Varik brothers.
My only complaint, and why I’ve taken off a star, is the proofreading. Whether it was missing or added words, incorrect words, swapped words, or punctuation errors, they were all there. I really miss reading a truly polished story. I guess anyone can offer up their services as a proofreader and it’s all good.
