Okay... I changed my mind! My Sweetheart is my FAVORITE in the Love and Dessert Trilogy. I was really sad to see it end and I immediately wanted to start it all over again the second I finished.
Jane is a hopeless romantic who is hopelessly in love with Tate Matafeo and has been from the moment she met him. The sad thing is, he's a stubborn man and even though he feels the same way that she does, he will not do anything about his feelings. Like I said.. stubborn man. Grrr.
Jane decides that she is going to do anything and everything she can to get over Tate. Not only did she consult Google for help but she also enlisted Rob, yes.. I said Rob, to help her as well. In actuality Jane and Rob end up helping each other... she needs to get over Tate and he needs to get over Kit. It's a win/win. ;) We get to see how much Rob really does regret doing the things he did to Kit and we also get to see him making some changes in his life. In the end... you will end up liking him... I promise!
*sigh*
And as for Tate... the poor guy is torn between his love for Jane and his respect for his family. They are very traditional people and do not really like change.. but who can blame them?! None of us do! They really only wanted what they thought was best for Tate. And, thanks to Jane, they were able to open their eyes and see that happiness is what they want the most for him. And his happiness is JANE!
And let me just say... I absolutely LOVED the weddings. It was the perfect way to end an amazing series.
This is my favorite of the Love and Dessert trilogy. I liked Jane and Tate in all three books and it was fun to finally watch their love story unfold. Jane is just a sweetheart and easy to like. I loved that she is optimistic and kind to everyone. I’ve loved Tate in all the books, but especially this one. We really get to know him better and he’s just an amazing guy. I found their relationship to be a little more realistic, maybe since their story has really been told over three books and even though it moved fast, it worked for them. Or maybe I just liked them and wanted them to get together.
My thoughts on a few side characters:
Overall, I just really like this series. I’ve read it three times now and I’m sure I’ll be reading it again. It’s one I would highly recommend to any fan of contemporary, heartwarming romance.
Content Romance: Clean Violence: Mild Other: Mild talk of drug addiction, shown in a negative light.
Jane is the youngest sister. She's content to do her own thing and is a very sweet, easy-to-please woman and she's very happy and content with her new life as a baker. She is totally in love with local policeman, Tate. She makes every effort to get over him, since he rejected her almost from the start, yet she just can't. Determined to be happy without him, she signs up for a meet and match website so that she can meet new friends and ends up in the same circle of friends as Tate. Meanwhile, she's done fending off Alex, who seems to be stalking her, and decides to get a restraining order. There are many tumultuous waves in Jane's life, but she's determined to find her happily ever after.
I love Jane! She really is a sweet, forgiving, and kind woman. She makes friends where ever she goes and is very down-to-earth. I love how she takes charge of her life, going to great lengths to get over Tate, to make new friends, and to find happiness. She's someone who makes lemonade out of lemons, for sure.
Tate is such a fun, loyal man. He has very good reasons for holding Jane at an arm's length. Family means everything to him and he's very passionate about what he cares for. I loved the realizations he comes to and the way he handles everything.
I also enjoyed seeing a character from a previous book redeem himself. I always knew he was a good guy, deep-down.
I hate to see this Trilogy come to an end and really hope these same characters make appearances in the trilogies that are tied to this one.
Content: no language; mild-moderate violence--a fight (beating someone up), a kidnapping/question of rape; lots of clean kissing. Clean!
I have really enjoyed this series. This is the third book for the baby sister (three sisters, three books). I've been looking forward to getting this love story since the first book. :) Great, clean romance with the heart and loyalty that I love. :)
This third book in the series has definitely been my favorite, but it also wouldn’t be as good without the buildup done in the first two books. I just adored Jane and Tate! The added elements of family, friends, some suspense and danger, and of course delicious treats from their famous bakery, made for such a wonderful story. The ending was so satisfying, and I think this will be a book I pick up again to reread in the future.
This book was really fun, but I didn't realize it was a part of a series for some reason (even though it's in the title) and thought I'd missed something while I was reading, but it was actually referring to one of the previous two books. It was still a good book and the story was pretty fun.
My Sweetheart is Jane's story and the one I was most looking forward to reading about. Jane and Tate's attraction to each other has been evident since they first met and I've been looking forward to finding out what was keeping them apart. I was happy to see Jane, the hopeless romantic, finally get a happily ever after of her own.
A couple things in this story seem to work out a little too easily/coincidentally and but I loved it nonetheless. A great ending to a fun series that I highly recommend. I'm looking forward to reading more from Shannon and was excited to learn there is more I can read as she has written more under a pen name Katie Lee O'Guinn.
OH. I. DO. LOVE. THIS. SERIES. LOVE and DESSERT...can it get any better?
These books are fun and fantastic! They are also sweet and romantic! They are just a pure delight to read!
This is Jane's story... Jane is the youngest sister and she has watched Layla find love, marry and Layla is now expecting.
Jane has also watched Kit choose her true love and Kit is now planning her wedding.
Life at the bakery won't be the same without her sisters living there...Yes they will still work together, but it will be different.
Jane is feeling a little lonely.
And then there is office Tate...
Jane loves him so much, yet Tate has made it very clear that he doesn't want to be with her.
But what about all the flirting Tate does... Jane's heart just can't take it any longer.. She tells Tate to never come back to the bakery again!
She tries to Fall Out of Love with Tate by dating Rob. She even seeks out a Find a Friend website.
But her heart is set...especially when she sees Tate strip off his shirt and do the Haka with his fellow Rugby players.
Family conflict, love triangles, old boyfriends, kidnapping, and a wedding reception never to be forgotten makes this a book to be read and loved and shared with a friend!
I was looking for a sweet Rom-Com, and Shannon did not disappoint. I learned not long after reading this that she also writes YA under another name(Katie Lee O'guinn). I had read a four book series from her before reading this standalone.
I'd applaud her for writing alpha males in a healthy light. I'm frankly tired of books that portray a selfish/abusive man as an alpha and then glorify it as if that is what women should desire.. An alpha is caring, protective, level-headed, strong minded, a leader, and a lover. They don't need to shout it to the world.
The plot twists kept me on the metaphorical edge of my seat. It was so well written that I found myself invested in the lives of secondary characters as well, but given the series, it would make sense. The main female and male protagonists had me grinning from ear to ear. I laughed, I cried, I felt all of the things. She really knows how to write a story that, while sweet and cozy, keeps the reader both interested and invested.
There is a HEA.
Spice level: 1 - Kissing only.
I recommend this book! There is one mention of a potential trigger. If that makes you uneasy, you can message me and ask.
Such a sweet ending to Ms. Guymon’s first Fircrest series! It was a little predictable, but the book gave me everything I wanted and more! In many romance books, the author spends the entire book on getting two characters together. In My Sweetheart, half of the book was spend towards the two characters realizing their love for each other while the other half consisted of challenges and life events that they faced together. I loved seeing characters from previous books interacting with new characters. The characters were well-developed and their actions consistent with the personality Ms. Guymon created for them. Some punctuation and grammatical errors existed, but not enough to be terribly distracting. Great job!
What a great series. What a great book. Loved the characters, loved the story. A lot of drama packed into this book though, with
But it was a happy, sigh romantic book/series. Great job Shannon Guymon!
Moral Note: No language, clean romance, some stalking, talk of rape, mild violence.
BTW - Ms. Guymon has great taste in music, most of the songs she referenced I really enjoy. (But, the Ho Hey song - it's I Belong with you, you belong with me,you're my sweetheart not "in my sweetheart")
Who could resist the Kendall sisters with their feisty, yet lovable personalities? The 3 sisters come together to run the bakery they inherited, but it ends up changing their lives - better than they could have ever imagined! Layla and Kit find the love of their lives... and it's about time sweet Jane gets her own "happily ever after!" This is now my favorite series of Shannon Guymon's. Warning: these books and characters suck you right in and you can't put the books down! So find a comfy seat, sit back with a chocolate treat, and enjoy the 3rd book of The Love and Desserts Trilogy! No one messes with the Kendall sisters!
These books are pretty silly and cute. I would suggest reading the whole series. The couple in the book meet in a previous book. The story line is fun and there is elements of everything, good tension, a bad guy, romance and kissing a marriage. Guymon has a style that stays pretty true throughout her books. I gave it three stars because it's just pretty unreal and a little silly and the way they talk to each other is over the top. These books are a fun escape and they are very clean, even the violence and bad guy are easy to dismiss and just give the hero someone to save the girl from.
This book was one of my best reads ever! This series was so good and it makes me want to read so much more! I loved this book because it had many twists and turns that I didn't expect. I love the love story between Jane and Tate. I also like how Shannon Guymon uses characters from the other books in the series. It helps me connect more with this book. I also like how this is a good clean romance book.
This is one of my favorite of the Fircrest books! I've been rooting for Tate and Jane throughout the first two books and I love seeing how Jane finally gets her happily-ever-after. And I love her Matafeo cupcakes and seeing the updates on how the other sisters are doing. I love a book that I can finish with a smile on my face and a happy sigh! It’s super clean and has a really sweet romance!
I downloaded this book as I liked the blurb and it sounded good, but all I can say is...meh. I haven't read the previous two books in the series - I did look at them after spotting this one, but they didn't grab me, so I went ahead with this. It's a little too sweet for me; too many I love you's from absolutely everyone. It's a nice story and I probably would've gotten more out of it by reading the series from the beginning (my bad). I did really like the Samoan side of things though, that's something. There is one moment in the story where I thought 'here's the action' and was hoping there to be more of a struggle before things work out perfect, but it only lasted a fraction. It just let me down a bit. Yes, it's a sweet love story, but it lacked for me in other ways.
The last Kendall sister has her own romance. Jane and Tate danced around their attraction in the first two books in the series, but he won’t go against his aunt and uncle’s wishes for him to marry a Samoan woman, so he leaves Jane with a broken heart. She goes through a ten step process to get over him. Along the way she makes several new friends, discovers a love for making creative cupcakes, has a couple scary moments, and discovers that sometimes love is even better if you have to work for it.
Now it is Jane's turn. She has been in love with Tate since moving to town, but he has done everything possible to turn her away and he won't say why. Alex Foster on the other had will not leave her alone with his obsessive delusions! Will Tate ever let himself love Jane and will she ever be free from Alex? The girl's father Landon has been in rehab and his future with the girls is unknown. Will all the girls find happiness? Is it finally Jane's turn? A good ending to the trilogy! Love the love of these sisters as they find themselves in their new lives and find real happiness and love!
The story was cute-- a good way to finish the series. Still a lot of holes and a lot of under-developed plotlines and characters, but it was entertaining.
The editing still left a lot to be desired, although it was significantly better than the last two books. It's a huge pain to read a book and edit every other sentence for grammatical errors and/or content.
Excellent, Wonderful, Marvelous! I adore everything about this novel and the way that it inspired my faith. I felt the characters struggles and trails as if they were my own. I prayed for them and wept with them. These emotions brought on means that no one will be disappointed if they decide to give this novel a chance! ❤
Thank you Ms. Guymon for this excellent collection of books that are heart-warming and inspiring. The romance and the sisterly love is so infectious that I feel like I could be talking to my own sisters. Thank you 🙏 and bless you!
I was so excited to finally read Jane's story, and it certainly didn't disappoint! I found myself just as wrapped up in this story as the other two before it!! The story is fun, full of laughter, and will pull at your heartstrings! It is a perfect ending to the fun trilogy! The story is well written, and has you laughing, crying, and just falling in love!
Once again I absolutely fall in love with the characters, they are well written and so much fun! Shannon does an amazing job of letting you picture each character, and instantly fall in love with them. Its fun when she brings in new characters, and when you can see what has been happening with the ones in the other books! I love how through each of the books you can see each sister evolve.
I love Jane, I think she is one of my favorites. I love her fiesty personality and her love for romance! The dynamic of her and Tate is fun and playful, and will have you smiling! I also love the relationship these three sisters have, it reminds me of the one I have with my sisters. These girls have so much love and friendship in their family, and you can feel it!
I found myself in the early hours of the morning reading, not wanting to put this book down! I definitely recommend this book to everyone that love fun romances, you won't be sorry!! Also if you haven't already read the other two books in the series, they are amazing too!!!
3.75 stars. I like Shannon Guymon's books because they're sweet, clean & and we both love a HEA!
What a great series! Reading about 3 sisters and their journey to find peace, love & happiness has been so fun. My Sweetheart was a fantastic conclusion to this series.
Liked: Jane is so sweet & likable. She truly finds the best in others and is so supportive and protective. As a gal who also has 2 sisters, these books are easy for me to relate to. All 3 sisters have different personalities, strengths & loves, and they've all been interesting characters to read about. It's nice to get their different perspectives. Add in 3+ adoring love interests, a few road bumps to make things realistic & there's lots of moments that make you smile.
Disliked: A few minor typos; not a huge deal, but it disrupts the flow for me as I have to go back and reread to be sure I haven't missed something.
Clean with minor religious reference but not preachy.
Jane Kendall loves her new life. She loves baking. She loves working with her sisters. And oh yeah, she loves Tate Matafeo most of all. Which would be great if he loved her back. Jane refuses to let heartbreak rule her life though, so she turns to Google and finds 10 easy steps on How To Fall Out Of Love. As helpful as Google is, Tate Matafeo is a hard habit to break especially when her new friend Meredith insists she come to a Rugby game and Tate happens to be on the team. Between Kit's wedding, Tate's mixed signals, Alex's obsession and her father's rehab, Jane wonders if she'll ever get her happy ending.
Loved it! Strong finish to the trilogy. Loved Jane's story. Great to see all the story lines tied up. Shannon Guymon is a great writer! She has a way of pulling you into her story, into her character's life. There were moments in the story that my eyes got a little misty :) I loved the trilogy. Each book was fabulous! Loved the Kendall sisters and their special bond . I recommend this book -- after you read the first two of course!! And I am already looking forward to whatever Shannon writes next.
And the book that ends the Trilogy...with Jane finally finding love! I connect with Jane. She seems more "everyday girl" to me than the other sisters, so I think I connected with her more. Great way to end the Trilogy. I do love Shannon Guymon. She knows how to tell a great story and draw the reader in. I don't know that I ever felt real closure with the Dad, but I guess that's part of the moral of the story is that you can do what you can to help people out, but in the end it's their choices that bring their lives down whatever road they choose.
3.5. I LOVED the first half of this book!! Tate was awesome and so mysterious and tall dark and handsome and perfect!! I didn't care for how quick things happened though. Seriously after 2 dates they are madly in love? That's called lust people. Rob did redeem himself but I think it's weird how he was in book 2. The sisters mushiness was way to much for me at times! Maybe I shouldn't have read all 3 books so close together.
