The people of Shattered Cove are amazing and the story of Finn losing his memory was done so perfectly. Adding in some mystery put the icing on the cake.
Finn & Charli are married with a baby on the way, but an accident happens to where Finn wakes from a coma & doesn't remember any of his life for the past 16 years (even his wife). It started the book out on quite the emotional bang as I found myself blinking away a bunch of tears. It only gets worse when they get home, and he finds an old journal of his so after reading that has him questioning trusting his wife, and Charli is kind of feeling the same way. Obviously this means there are crazy twists coming from every direction so I ended up with loud f-bombs dropping while my eyes leaked so you know, I was totally all in of course. His True North is a very original story & totally my jam so any of you who love some suspense & danger in your books with a kicker of original intrigue, then don't pause to think just hit those one click buttons! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
again we get a great story that keeps the reader on an emotional rollercoaster. This time we are dealing with amnesia. What would you do if you if you woke up from a coma and forgot some of the most important events in your life. Finn and Charli have to start again. Not only is he having to deal with a bit of mistrust fear of the unknown, danger from the past comes and adds more stress. danger, twists and turns , emotion and love . This book and the entire series never disappoint. The emotions are believable. None of the couples have it easy. they work through life's struggles to get their HEA.
The series continues with another suspenseful, and emotional story. Charlie and Finn's story is all that and so much more. There are just so many layers and challenges to their relationship. Definitely an amazing story and so much to learn from their relationship even though it's fiction. But it's just so relatable. Although I found Charlie frustrating at times when he's making excuses.
Alas, I'm happy I got the chance to read this one and I can't wait for the next one.
Intriguing series and this one is unforgettable (pardon the pun!). Finn has lost his memory, he awakens to find he has a wife with a child on the way. Watching these two struggle to find their way back to each other was powerful.
This has been an interesting series - full of twists and turns along the way. Looking forward to more from this author duo.
I voluntarily requested and reviewed an advance reader copy.
This book is one of my favorites! I 100 percent relate to the story and characters, it ripped my heart out and slowly put it back together..and the steamy scenes are definitely a bonus. Highly recommend.
Very emotional and slightly sad, and with a low thrum of suspense. I loved the authors’s style of writing, very sentimental.
Fin lost his memory in an accident, and in his broken mind went back to when he was seventeen. Imagine this man waking up from a coma, thinking he’s seventeen, and looking at parents that are older than he remembers, see his face and hands, older than he feels, and above all, meet a wife who is pregnant with his child. It’s a very scary moment, made worse by his father Zeke who expects him to uphold his obligations like a grown man.
Everyone expected him to start living his life, live in his house that he doesn’t remember, live with his wife that he doesn’t remember. I felt his anguish, feeling lost and disoriented, devoid of a compass, devoid of any kind of normality. And what makes it worse, he doesn’t remember his wife but he has a very strong physical reaction to her.
I hurt for Charli because she got her husband back but he’s not really there. I could imagine their discomfort, living together but being basically strangers. For Charli it was worse, she loves this man but can’t get close since he won’t let her. Charli, in the middle of her heartbreak, tries to guide him, to support him as he tries to navigate this life that he doesn’t remember.
And then when Fin begins experiencing nightmares and flashes of war, he rejects all efforts from Charli to help. Sometimes he was a complete darling and others he was a complete jerk. There are omissions and mistrust, Fin gets paranoid as he reads a diary he found in his garage and tries to make sense with his current life. Instead of asking, he acts out and hurts Charli many times. Charli is someone to feel pity for, because she’s always trying, always forgiving, always giving more chances. I started to get angry at Fin for being such a jerk and at Charli for being so forgiving. Fin needed a kick in the butt!
Then some strange things start to happen, Charli starts to be afraid of someone stalking her, Fin tries to be protective but they are at odds most of the time, and the incidents start to pile up. Fin swears he will protect her but who will protect her from his lies?
I spent the last part of the book between aggravated at Fin and scared for Charli. The story is very emotional and I got very emotional when Charli hurt. She’s too good and loves too hard, plus she’s carrying a baby which makes her extra emotional. It really felt very turbulent with the good times and the bad times. It was a good read but it was mostly sad for me.
While I haven't been to Shattered Cove before, A.M. Kusi made me feel very welcome. In the fifth installment, we are focused on Finn and Charli and boy do they have quite the story.
In this little town everybody knows your name and every move you make. It seems pretty cool, but in real life is probably super irritating. For Charli and Finn it was nothing but helpful for them and thier road back to a normal. The blurb pretty much tells it all, the story is in the details and since these two have sixteen years to figure out...it's a lot of details.
From the start, I was equally annoyed with these characters, him for his hot and cold attitude and that damn journal and she was written weak in my mind. I realize that she's been through quite a bit in her past, however felt that should have toughened her up a bit. Granted they grew on me as I read, the seed was already planted and I picked them apart in my mind as I read.
Finn and Charli's journey was a slow one. Lots of ups and downs and close calls. They have thier family and friends to help them find thier way back to each other, however sometimes it takes more. They needed to man up if you will and face some of thier challenges head on instead of thinking one thing and doing another.
The book is well written with pretty much everything you want in a romance and a little action on the side. Along with Finn's amnesia, we have a problem from Charli's past to take care of, which was a nice change of pace when Finn and Charli's romance was driving me nuts. It's the fifth book in the series, I felt the authors kept me up to speed with the supporting characters enough to not feel lost.
I was not prepared for this story. Charli and Finn have been minor characters throughout the series. Charli is a bartender at The Shipwreck and Finn is her husband in the military. In book 4 you learn that Finn was in an accident and Charli is pregnant. This book picks up when Charli gets to the hospital after the accident.
Finn is in a coma and poor Charli is just holding on to whatever she can to stay afloat. When Finn wakes up and believes he is still 17, dating Laura, and a senior in high school Charli's world is turned upside down. Watching them learn to navigate this new normal was so heart wrenching. Charli doing all she can to be there for a man who doesn't remember marrying her let alone starting a family.
I was so caught up in how difficult this would be if it happened to me. My heart hurt for them both as they fought to keep from drowning. They had to restart after 13 years of true love. So many things were stacking up against them and I just didn't know what was going to happen in the end. I adored watching them fall in love with each other again despite the odds. I loved Zeke and Claire, Finn's parents, refusal to see Charli as anything but their daughter no matter the outcome. The way that all the characters from books 1-4 were there by their friend's sides doing all they could to help navigate this tragedy was all you really want from a small town story.
This book was filled with loss, love, family, friendship, and trauma. It reminded you the importance of mental health and how it's okay to need help. It shows you how true love can't be replaced no matter the obstacles. His True North is a second chance romance that bubbles over with love and adoration.
A.M. Kusi strikes again in the latest return to Shattered Cove. When I say I devoured His True North, I mean up until 3 am to read because I am the genius that started this before bed. From the opening alone I was invested in Finn and Charli and rooting for them. I adored Charli. Her tender heart. Her work ethic. Her patience. How fully and deeply she loved Finn. How she did everything she could to show him her love. How she sacrificed but also stood her ground. Finn was no slouch either. Yes, he was lost and angry and searching but there was something about Charli that called to him on a level he didn't quite understand.
Now, this might sound strange but I liked that things were hard for her and Finn. That they struggled to find their footing in their new reality. But it was the stolen tender moments, the making of new memories where the magic happened. However, some things that should've stayed buried in the past didn't and when they came back, they came roaring with vengeance in their sights.
My heart was racing as those tense moments played out and everything hung in the balance. I was reading as fast as my eyes would allow to see just what the fallout would be. Can you say intense? From start to finish, Charli and Finn's second (or is it third) chance romance was emotional and sexy and had me hanging on every word. And that ending! Oh my yes! I am so ready for what's in store for this small town next.
Finn & Charli are married with a baby on the way. Finn is away on a deployment, when an accident happens. Finn is in a coma, & wakes up not remembering the last 16 years of his life, including his wife.
After being released from the hospital, he goes home with her not knowing her. This take a turn when Finn finds an old journal of his, after starting to read it has him questioning his trust for his wife.
How would you feel if woke up from a coma, forgetting the most important events of your life?
"For the first time since she'd married Finn, she felt alone. Stranded. Lost in a sea of shattered promises." • "You said I was your true north, & if you ever got lost, this would help you find your way back to me." • "Her chest splintered as a thousand tiny arrows pierced the most vulnerable pieces of her." • "Holy fuck, did she feel like heaven riding him." • "Talking about the past ever helped anyone, never mind the fact that he couldn't even remember most of it himself." • "It seemed even their unborn son was rooting for them." • "Maybe I'll see just how good this pussy is that's got you so wound up. Make you watch."
What can I possibly say about His True North that would be of justice to this amazing 6 star story. If life would’ve not gotten in the way I would have binge read this page turner.
Charli almost lost Finn, the love of her life. But when he wakes up he doesn’t remember the last 16 years of his life. That includes their life together. He suffers some PTSD from deployment which he doesn’t remember. Now he has to trust what they are saying but that trust wit ll be muddled.
I loved this amazingly written story. I’ve discovered these new authors and the more I read from them the more I want to read their work. It’s raw and poignant. It feels so real and I can escape even for a few hours in these amazing words. Even if he doesn’t remember her, his body does. He falls in love again. The perfect alpha, protector. They have so much chemistry.
It’s a beautiful story about trust and getting the help from your friends and family. Family bonding is very strong in this story. A storyline that was perfectly mastered and flowed well. It was even suspenseful. It’s plain perfection. Bottomline this is a MUST read.
Although it’s part of a series it could be read as a standalone. Told in the third person with an HEA. I strongly recommend this story.
I randomly got this book on Amazon for $.99 a few weeks ago and decided to give it a try. It was a good story and hooked me from the beginning!
Things I liked: - The storyline- a man wakes up from a coma with no memories of the last 13 years, which include his pregnant wife. It was a romantic suspense, so there was a solid secondary plot going on as well. - The diversity- The MCs are an interracial couple and there are other ethnicities represented, as well as homosexual side characters. It's always refreshing to see representation in novels! - The pacing- it kept me hooked from the very beginning!
Things I didn't like as much: - It was pretty cheesy at parts...I rolled my eyes alot 🤷♀️ - There were several very unrealistic parts, especially with Charli's pregnancy - Too many sex scenes! Listen, I'm no prude and I have read ALOT of novels with descriptive sex scenes. They don't bother me. But, I don't like when I feel like they're being added simply as "time fillers". This book had that vibe at times.
Overall, it was an enjoyable romantic suspense with a unique plot line, which I appreciated. There are more books with some of the side characters, so I may try another one in the future.
I received this free eARC novel from the author and Wildfire Marketing Solutions. This is my honest review.
I am so excited that Charlie and Finn's story is finally here! They've always popped up in the previous novels, so to finally know more about them and their story was fantastic! Charlie's past with her mom is gut wrenching. I can't imagine growing up that way.
Seeing Finn and Charlie reconnect and "meeting" again was sweet but sad at the same time. Charlie is definitely a fighter and so strong because she was the one with past memories and having the patience of a Saint.
I do appreciate the message (one of a few in this book) about communication and trust. That is a key requirement in a relationship and these two characters struggled with it, like MANY couples do. To see them overcome that was inspiring.
I'm so glad I discovered A. M. Kusi because these books and this series is fantastic! I can't wait for the next one, and I'm oh so happy I got the chance to read this eARC!
These authors have done it again. The angst is so palpable you wonder if there really will be a HEA. When our main characters declare their love for each other I'm left a weepy mess and not just this book but every book in this series.
Charlie and Finn are married and have been through so much. After an accident Finn wakes up in the hospital and can't remember anything that's happened over the last sixteen years. Not even the beautiful woman sitting there claiming to be his wife and not only that she's pregnant.
He's terrified and not voicing anything to anyone. He finds an old journal of his and when he can't remember the details of what he wrote and that leaves him wondering if he can trust his wife.
And they're also still dealing with finding the man who attacked Charli.
I feel like I've been waiting on Charlie and Finn's story from the moment they were first introduced in the series. As they have been recurring characters we know a little about them but after reading this I realised it was only superficially. This book left me emotionally raw,my heart broke for both Finn and Charlie both in their own way trapped in a new reality that neither saw coming. Looking back at their past I couldn't make up my mind if Finn was a little selfish or if Charlie was too giving and just gave in too him and out him first all the time. We follow them as they try to reconnect after a tragic accident rips the Finn she knew from her life. I enjoyed this story that showed communication is the key to them regaining what they had lost. Although the vehicle for their troubles was dramatic this could be any couple who had stopped talking and because of this it felt realistic.
4 stars. I liked this! It was a pleasant surprise. I like amnesia and the danger surrounding the h with mystery added another layer to the plot. It really gripped me. The angst was also much higher and I liked their miscommunications bc it added to the angst here.
However, I take out 1 star bc the back and forth was too much. Some of it could have been cut. As such, I lost interest somewhat around 70%.
Otherwise this was a solid read. I liked the writing, the connection and chemistry between the MCs was evident! I’d actually give the rest of this series a try!
This was a new to me author(s) and I also believe they are the first husband and wife team that I've read. I found the book flowed fluidly, which doesn't always happen with co writing but the reason for my rating is because I couldn't always connect with the characters, mainly the male main character. Although I empathise with what he went through, I found it frustrating at times when he was using it as an excuse. The plot was great though with many things keeping me on my toes.
🔎🔍 as always I'm speechless with the work of A.M. Kusi, the world that is created is amazing full of depths and emotions that would have you devouring the book until the end. This story is amazing and the characters are beautifully created that you'll become part of them. From the beginning until the end the book has something for you to grab on and would take you in an amazing journey. Definitely a must read.
His True North, Book 5 of the Shattered Cove series by A.M. Kusi @amkusinovels.
Ash & Marcus did it again! Amazing! TBH, this wasn't a book I thought would be written as Charli & Finn have been happily married for years in the prior books. But wow, this book was fantastic! 🥰
Finn messed up some due to his amnesia, (Though to be honest, what person doesn't once in a while?) but he makes up for it. 🤩
This was amazing book! I felt so many emotions while reading. Although flawed, I liked both Charli and Finn. I think there was a good balance of their different characteristics, and a good balance of romance, mystery, and angst. The book was interesting and I think it portrayed a mostly realistic image of marriage issues and working through them. It was such a good read.
Every time he opened his mouth I felt like slapping him😀I don’t give a flying fuck that he lost his memories it didn’t make up just actions all he did was screw things up. Charlie should have left his ass she’s self sufficient she could have managed raising her child without him.
This book will definitely give you all the feels while reading it. Love and laughter. Sadness and crying. Coming with great sex. Heartache and Make up sex. Did I mention sex? I really enjoyed this story of a Army Vet and his childhood friend to lovers.
Charlie and Finns story was heartbreaking in many parts,it was quiet the emotional story and I may of shed a tear. I know it must of been hard for Finn losing so much time, but I totally understood how Charlie felt and I reckon I would of felt and reacted the same way she did in many of the scenarios. What was heartbreaking ended up being something beautiful. Both Charlie and Finn had such a support system and in the end they just needed to believe and trust each other.
His True North is a 3.5/5 for me. Better than good. This book was full of high intensity and high emotional context. I really enjoyed the story, and A.M. brings the S T E A M. I love that this husband/wife duo, Ash and Marcus, use their experiences as an interracial/multicultural couple to create a beautiful story. They built a world of characters that are relatable and lovable. I couldn’t help but to cheer them.
Charli and Finn have been married for 13 years when Finn is in a severe accident that causes amnesia. He doesn’t remember a huge chunk of his life. Unfortunately, that includes his wife Charli. She’s also pregnant with their first child. The characters both struggle so much at the beginning of the story and it truly sucked me in. Their emotions punched me right in the feels.
Charli and Finn’s journey was quite unexpected. I assumed I knew where things were headed and I’m glad to say I didn’t. What a surprise! This book is worth the read.
*I received a copy of His True North in exchange for an honest review.
